Renegade has new owners and they are working to make this place a great gym again. They have cleaned it up and are putting in new lights, equipment and cleaning stations. They have cleaned bathrooms are clean and there is always a staff person there now if you have any questions or need help.

Walked in to the Pawcatuck location to see about their monthly membership pricing. Need a key fob to get in. Thankfully, a member opened the door for me. Waited by the front desk for 10 minutes. No one showed up. I then went back to my truck and decided to try to call. Their phone line is disconnected. Then I went to their website and found their membership inquiry. Filled it out and when I tried to submit it, it says the page cannot be found. I guess I’ll go somewhere else?

I’ve been a member at this gym for 8 years. It’s unfortunate that after Covid they didn’t have all the classes they used to but maintained the spin class which is amazing!
The facility offers great equipment, weights, key tag entry access, opens early and very clean. I’m moving out of state and hope to find a gym that can match Renegade. ☺️

Urinal is overflowing in the men’s bathroom. I notified management, it has neither been resolved nor signage posted. Wipe dispensers are empty or completely removed from the facility. Every TVs has been off for 2 weeks. Once resolved, I’ll remove this review.

This place doesn’t seem to want new business?! Me and my girlfriend were trying to get memberships however there’s never anyone here to make that happen. They claim they have staff on everyday for several hours but no one comes to the door or answers the phone. If you already have a membership I would love to know the process. If you don’t have one… good luck!

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I will never return here. Their gym is obviously dirty, neglected, and frankly, useless. The equipment is not updated or even replaced when something breaks. The “annual” membership is not discontinued until you send a written notice to them wanting to cancel. They continue it month to month until you write to their headquarters which is the Waterford location. I am seriously displeased with the way they handled my billing. NEVER GO HERE.

Pretty cool gym but to be honest it's a meeting place for older people who sit on machines and block access to using them. It would be great if when they sign up they realize that there is a raised bench area they can sit and talk etc.

Went there in hopes of buying a day or week pass only to find the door locked. Need a card to enter the building. No staff were there at 4pm on a Friday and they didn't have a sign that stated when they were meant to be in the gym. Stood there for a couple of minutes hoping someone would show up, but nothing. Waste of time. Here's an idea though. If you are going to lock us beyond an electronic door, why not have a keypad that allow you to pay for a day pass and allow us to unlock door with use of a debit card or phone (for multiple entry on any given day). Either lean into technology fully or have someone there to actually help you. I personally would prefer to have human help though.

I’ve been a member at Renegade in Pawcatuck for many years, and I can’t say enough good things about it. It is a fantastic place to exercise, and they have a wide range of new and different equipment that keeps workouts exciting and effective. The friendly atmosphere created by both the staff and fellow members is really welcoming. It’s a place where you feel motivated and supported in your fitness journey. Also, Jeff and his staff do a wonderful job of maintaining a clean environment. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a great workout experience.

Personally this is my favorite Renegade gym around the area. It's the cleanest, friendly staff, and doesn't get overly packed so you don't have to wait for equipment. They also have everything you need for an effective work out.

I had canceled my membership around 3 years ago when before I moved to TN. My membership was apparently never canceled as I had gotten a call from a collection company last week saying I owed money to Renegade. I looked through my bank statements which I should have done earlier and they have been charging my account this whole time. After many phone calls and emails and a picture of my TN ID and the issue date of when I arrived in TN they refuse to reimburse me for any of the money that they have stolen over the last few years. This gym management and owners are just scammers. I would not suggest ever getting a membership here.

And beware of their current cancellation policy where they charge for two months after your cancellation. This location at pawcatuck is bare bones as well. No sauna etc

Gym itself is great. Great place to workout. Customer service needs serious work. My keycard didn’t work less than 24 hours after signing up, locking me out of the club for the weekend. Impossible to get anyone on the phone.
Contacted another club and their solution was actually to tailgate someone else into the gym, like I’d ever be comfortable putting another member in that situation. I worked in gyms for years. problems like mine are not difficult to solve even if temporarily. Hoping to update this with a better rating soon.

Update: Aaron in Pawcatuck was very helpful in getting everything in order on Monday morning. I'm not sure why the other clubs weren't able to see what he saw, but I feel positive about the staff at Pawcatuck so long as the are granted the availability and tools to problem solve.

Quite literally the dirtiest gym I’ve ever been in. The floors are covered in dirt and hair and the bathrooms are disgusting. There is a layer of dust and grime everywhere and spider webs in a lot of areas as well. I’ve never been able to get a hold of someone over the phone and the staff members are rarely available to answer questions, although if you do find one they are very friendly. If you’re interested in doing cardio or resistance machines there are plenty, but if you want to use free weights you’ll spend a lot of time waiting for an available barbell or squat rack. They also don’t have many functional accessories for working out, or if they do they are in terrible shape, so I have resorted to buying my own and bringing them with me (barbell pad, bands, attachments for cable machines, Etc.). The attachments for the cable machines are in horrid condition, the ropes are frayed so badly and the grips on all the handles are missing parts. If they had someone come in and actually clean once a month it would be a MAJOR improvement. And don’t let them fool you with a response that says they have someone regularly cleaning. I’ve seen the vacuum out a couple times near the front desk and yet the lifting areas/bathrooms are filthy.

I have only recently started coming to the Pawcatuck location because my trainer now works there. Aaron may be new to this location, but I can tell you from personal experience that I have never met anyone more motivated to make anyone's gym experience such a positive one. I have personally trained with him for 5 months in Waterford and his commitment and dedication to a positive view of health and fitness has given me a new outlook on how I take care of myself and my body. Aaron is always open to feedback and is a humble and kind person and has such a strong desire to help you take your fitness journey to a whole new level so you can confidently reach your goals. He truly cares!

I never received any emails that my price is going up, I've been out of contract atleast 3 years. Then just start charging a long time member $30.

Looks like they have someone laundering stolen credit card numbers. Just got hit for 50 bucks at 5:20 AM today 29 Oct 2021 from this location. Hit authorization for 4 $50 dollar charges. Seeing as I live 400 miles away in another state, doubt I'm using this location...ever.

Nice attempt at deflection. As a merchant you know that every card transaction records, a time stamp, a unique transaction identifier number, and LOCATION . Your Powcatuck location is clearly identified.

Card has been cancelled and an investigation has been initiated. As it usually goes with card and identity fraud , nothing will be result, and Amex will simply reverse the charges.

My husband has called NUMEROUS times to start the week free trial and no one ever answers the phones no matter what time of day he calls. He asked me to go by in person while he was at work and sign him up, but you need a key card to get into the building, and there’s a sign that says not to hold the door open for people. Everyone must scan to get in. Soooo.....I can’t enter the building to sign him up, and you people refuse to answer your phone all day? Yeah. He’s definitely going somewhere else. Thanks for nothing.

Is it really that hard to stay open normal hours on the weekends? closing a 6 ridiculous. As the other reviews have pointed out, they will charge your payment method forever even if you cancel membership, only way to stop them is to cancel your card. The gym equipment is falling apart and is all really dirty, they don't maintain anything.

They were giving complimentary fitness assessments and I had an appointment at this location with Bela Santos their fitness director. We went over everything--my health history, my body fat and goals and exercise history. She even put me through a private workout. It was so detailed and she even took time to assist me with stretching. I never stretch. Anyway, I decided to buy some training sessions, because I know they're going to help me do things I never make time for! The facility is awesome, spacious and has every piece of equipment you can imagine and it's immaculate! When I was leaving, I met the assistant manager, Joe. Super cool and mellow guy and took time to ask how my assessment went. All three location's I have worked out at have been a great experience. There's members of all ages there...This place is for everyone! You have to check it out!

If you want to get ripped off this is the place for you! Even if your contact states 3 months, they will continue to take your money from your account because of the FINE print. The physical trainer had a habit of cancelling at the last minute. When I went in to complain about being charged after my contract was over, I found out the the trainer signed my son's name to the receipt that he had a training session that my son NEVER had!!

Terrible customer service. Was a paying member for almost 3 years, they make it such a difficult process to cancel...can't do it at the gym I'm a member of. I had to send a certified letter, which they claimed to have not received and charged me another month. Now have to drive to corporate office, another inconvenience, just to get the payment stopped. Loved the gym and classes but I signed up for 2 years faithfully paid every month including annual fees. Completed my 2 years and guess what I'm STILL paying for it and I haven't been in almost 2 years. I didn't notice for awhile. Lol I guess when ur contract is over ur expected to hand write and send (with a postage stamp) a letter stating that you no longer want to be a member! REALLY??? I signed a 2 year contract..completed it and did not go back to the gym..why would they think I wanted to extend a contract I no longer used??? They should have told me that in the beginning instead of collecting money from me for almost 2 years when I thought my contract was over and I couldn't go.

Quite honestly nothing really wrong with the gym as a work out location, the equipment is not the best... but many of the extra programs are nice.
As a business.... caveat emptor.... read EVERY SINGLE LINE of fine print before you join. If you do decide to join, do it for only one year... and if you decide to quite remember to send in your certified letter 30 days before your last membership date... or they will $#$@% you. Enjoy..!!

Signed up after last summer. The gym advertised a $10 monthly membership including cardio and free weights. Fast forward now to March 2016, the gym is deciding to tell those with $10 memberships they are not entitled to free weights. This gym is ridiculous and not worth it.
