Working with Ryan has been a gift to myself and my health. I have been hearing about the benefits of heavy weightlifting for women and when a good friend started sharing her progress after just a few months of training with him, I was intrigued. Ryan is patient and motivating, starting slowly but always explaining the exercises and keeping me focused on form. It is so satisfying to see the weights increase every week and track my progress. Another huge benefit to his approach are the home workouts and check-ins; he even created a few vacation workout programs to keep me consistent when I’m not able to get to the gym. Over time I have become stronger and more confident in the gym and in my ability to try hard things. I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes… and to my first unassisted pull up!

To keep it short if you train with Ryan you will change your life. He leads with empathy and kindness and is incredibly knowledgeable. He was made for this. I am injury free and in the best shape I can remember. He is so good at working across all demographics. If you are intimidated or don’t know where to start, this is the place for you. If you aren’t getting anywhere with your routine and feel stuck- go here! Women need to lift heavy things and Ryan will be the perfect guide! He is so responsive, encouraging and smart. He works with the physical side but also takes in the whole person and works to your specific goals. Can’t say enough good things- this is the trainer you have been looking for!!

Ryan simplifies the process of getting back into working out. After getting to know strengths and weaknesses, Ryan is able to create a solid plan to build muscle and technique. Also he can adapt to existing injuries or any injuries that might flare up. Highly recommend as a trainer.

I started training with Ryan a year ago to reduce chronic pain and was initially intimidated by weightlifting. In my mid-50s and new to this type of exercise, I appreciated Ryan’s patient, supportive, and knowledgeable approach that quickly put me at ease.
From day one, Ryan prioritized proper lifting form, gradually building on each exercise. Within the first month, I noticed less pain. And now, a year later, I feel stronger, healthier, and experience far fewer aches.
His ability to adapt workouts to my needs truly sets Ryan apart. Whether I was feeling sore or ready for a challenge, he adjusted my program thoughtfully, helping me gain strength and confidence without ever feeling overwhelmed.
Ryan’s encouragement and belief in my abilities have been transformative. Thanks to his guidance, I’ve improved physically and gained a sense of empowerment I never expected.
I highly recommend Ryan to anyone seeking a trainer who truly cares, tailors programs to your needs, and helps you succeed at your own pace.

Ryan is a fantastic strength coach, and an even better person! I’ve really enjoyed having Ryan’s expert eye correct a number of issues with my form (I have been lifting for years thinking I was doing something correctly, but in fact was not). As a result, a few chronic pains have gone away, I’ve become much stronger and more comfortable with my squat, and I’ve become overall more confident in my ability to progress.
I highly suggest seeking out Ryan if you are looking for a knowledgeable, conscientious, and astute strength coach. He knows what he’s talking about, but he’ll never make you feel talked down to. Highly recommend!

I always thought the answer to my physical pain (back, hip, knee, etc) was rest. Ryan proved to me otherwise—the answer is to actually move and build strength. I had hip surgery last year, and because of Ryan I have a hip that is stronger (and feeling better) than it ever has. The individual attention he gives is invaluable—he helped me build my strength at the perfect pace, and never did I leave his gym in pain. I used to not be able to take a short walk without pain, and now I'm running and lifting more weight than I ever thought possible. Thanks Ryan!!!

TLDR: Ryan's approach WORKS. He listens patiently and hard, and then partners with you to get you to a place you didnt necessarily know you could get to. I've seen a lot of trainers, tried a bunch of stuff. What a waste of my time. Skip all that and go see Ryan.
Part 1:
I'm 41 now. It's sad. Things hurt if I eat breakfast the wrong way. I know what it's like to pull a neck muscle turning on a hose faucet.
Let me pause there and start at the beginning. When I first started training with Ryan, I thought I knew some basics about lifting, as I had done it in high school and then training at a varsity level in college sports. Wrong. Ryan transformed the way I do and think about training using research based methods, but also a customized approach for my particular goals of trying not to suck on a tennis court. This is not a stereotypical gym bro who will pump up your biceps (although if that is your goal he will get you there too, while making sure your entire body comes along for the ride).
His workouts allow me to get around a tennis court like a young person, or mulch for a few hours at a time with plenty left in the tank to run around and play with my kids at the end of a long day. I cant tell you enough the impact Ryan has had on my daily life, and i cant thank him enough.
Part 2:
I come to Ryan with my worst pains, knees being the latest one. He immediately was able to come up with a customized plan that within 2 weeks has me significantly improved. I swear it's some sort of black magic but you'd be surprised how simple the workouts are that WORK.
Part 3
He guided me in designing my home gym, a super simple setup that works perfectly for me. No cheap frills. I do not need to spend pointless money on a gym membership elsewhere or waste time driving around dumping gas into the atmosphere (car gas too).

I worked with ryan for over a year before leaving the area. I started working with Ryan as a novice strength athlete with only a loose goal of increasing my functional strength. Ryans calm, frank and supportive coaching style helped me progress quickly and become a more skilled strength athlete. As my skill grew I was able benefit greatly from the experience Ryan had working with more advanced athletes as he was able to easily adapt my program as my skill grew. My time was Ryan has given me the confidence to know I can strength train safely and effectively. I highly recommend you take the time to do at least one session so you can understand what strength training is like with a top tier coach.

Ryan is an awesome trainer and I highly recommend using him as your strength coach. I am 43 years old and was looking to get back in the gym to gain strength / mobility. In my second month working out with Ryan and he has exceeded my expectations He is truly knowledgeable, patient, and great at demonstrating / queuing you through various lifts & exercises. He always takes the extra step to make sure my form is spot on which has helped me gain strength & more importantly avoid injury. Without his guidance I would never have attempted deadlifts, squats, overhead press (among others) on my own. He is great at what he does, & highly recommend him.

I came into lift with Ryan and it was a great experience! Ryan was very instructive and patient when teaching things such as the squat and dead lift. Ryan Provided lots of positive feedback and encouragement, while also demonstrating the lifts himself. Ryan was great at then following up with the logic behind why you left something a particular way and even provided examples of what you should be doing such as stretches in the downtime between lifts. Overall, you can tell Ryan is very enthusiastic about lifting, and that enthusiasm will spread to you!

There are fitness trainers and then fitness experts. Ryan is the latter. It’s clear he takes the time and effort to fine tune his craft and continuously build upon his extensive knowledge. The best part is he can translate it and make it clear and understandable. He has helped me so much with form, gain an understanding of his philosophy/approach, and learn how to appropriately building strength. I simply wish I had started with him sooner.

Ryan is an excellent trainer: knowledgeable, supportive, and persistent. When I started working with him I was a complete novice to weightlifting. His patient instruction and expertise created a very enjoyable introduction to strength training. Within two months I was stronger, healthier, and had a much better understanding of physical wellness. I also appreciate how easily Ryan can adapt my workout depending on changing goals or life circumstances. Definitely recommend this person for strength training on the Shoreline.

TLDR: You should hire Ryan without hesitation. I am 39 with significant orthopedic issues (spine fusion, hip arthritis). I have been fearful of engaging in strength training due to these constraints. I decided to work with Ryan because in our conversations he gave me confidence that his program would incorporate these constraints. I am very very happy after working with Ryan for the past 3 months. We have taken a slow and steady approach to building strength that has produced excellent results without injury. Ryan’s skill set is great for all ages and levels of athleticism. He will personalize a winning program for you just as he did for me.

I worked with Ryan for over a year before moving away from the area. Ryan is incredibly accommodating and diligently works with you to outline and achieve your goals. His expertise goes beyond strength training and was a big help with providing dietary guidance and improving overall wellness. I strongly recommend Ryan to anyone looking to improve their fitness levels regardless of age or experience. I looked forward to meeting and working with Ryan every week.

I trained with Ryan for about 6 months and stopped just short of the coronavirus pandemic. We had goals in place and I would have inevitably hit them thanks to him had it not been for the pandemic. The diet and and workout structure he provided allowed me to see gains and it was fun to watch the improvement week over week, instead of months while working out on my own. His knowledge and likeability made it easy to stay motivated. Highly recommend!

I was to have some major surgery in three months and was determined to go into this in as best shape as possible. Ryan put together a 3X a wk plan (weights and higher protein diet) that not only put me in the best shape I've been in for ten years but largely accomplished this w/o significant muscle pain. After surgery I worked out 2X a week for a year to learn how to train myself and maintain the level of fitness desired.
I was an avid runner years ago but learned from Ryan that strength training (and balance) is so important in my 60's and going fw'd.

I trained with Ryan for about 3 years in preparation for knee replacement surgery as well as overall strength training. He is kind, patient, knowledgeable and works with you to accommodate your needs and level of ability. We worked together through the height of Covid with him texting me my workouts and always following up to make sure I was on task working out at home. He truly cares about all of his clients as though they were family. After my surgery, I sent a video to Ryan from my hospital room thanking him for making me stronger. Without his help, my PT and recovery would have been more difficult. If you are looking for a personal trainer, look no further. You can become RT Strong!
