I have personally had the best experience with SDSS and I, after 7 years, personally recommend SDSS to any young kid or curious adult who wants to learn affective, awesome, and traditional martial arts

I walked into the Fairfield SDSS studio a year and a half ago with bolts in my spine and issues with my semi-functioning feet, leaning on a cane and clinging to the side railing. I’m now 65 and have just earned my purple belt. Turns out I’d been walking wrong for years, favoring my weak side rather than making the most of my strengths. I spent the first six months unlearning bad physical and mental habits. Shaolin Kempo is a very adaptive style and Sensei Josh always found a way to work around my physical limitations, improving my balance, strengthening my core, and building my self-esteem. I replaced my “if I try, I might fall” fear with an “if I try, I might fall, but I know you’ll catch me” confidence. I hardly use my cane anymore. I really only need it when I’m dancing. I’ve gone from dragging my feet to kicking butt, and I’m killing it on the dance floor. I can’t thank the staff and community of Fairfield SDSS enough for their dedication, exceptional teaching skills, and unceasing support. Big hugs, big thanks, and big love to all of you.
The old saw is true: it’s never too late to start. The first lesson’s free; you’ll have fun, and it might just change your life. You don’t know how much you can do until you start doing it. So join the team. You have nothing to lose but your fear, your lack of confidence, and maybe your cane.

Both of my kids go to SDSS and absolutely love it! The instructors are incredibly welcoming and really take the time to make every child feel comfortable and confident. It’s such a positive environment, and my kids are always excited to go to class. They love working toward their next belt—it keeps them motivated and proud of their progress. Highly recommend! 🥋

I’ve been going since I was 6 years old. Now that I’m 17 I can’t stress enough how valuable the experiences and lessons I’ve learned from it have been.

My 7 year old son absolutely loves this dojo. Sensei Josh and his team are phenomenal with the kids. He’s been there for a year now and has grown so much both from the physical exercise and shaolin philosophy they apply. Highly recommend!

My son has been going to SDSS Fairfield for over 2 years now and absolutely loves it. He is not a team sports guy but looks forward to going to SDSS every week! All his instructors have been amazing. My son is almost 7 and has ADHD, the team at SDSS has been so caring and supportive. We have even had his birthday party there last year which was so easy and well run.

My son has been going to SDSS Martial arts since January, I’ve seen a HUGE improvement in his behavior both in and out of school! I’ve seen his confidence and focus grow tremendously! My son receives additional educational / behavioral guidance from his public school and SDSS has been a valuable partner in teaching skills and tools that reinforce the lessons and support provided by my sons 504 plan.

My son has been attending SSDS for 2 years. The studio has recently come under new ownership and what was a decent karate experience for my son is now a totally different energy! His interest has peeked to a new level under Sensei Josh (new owner) and I am so grateful! His increased confidence around the sport is measurable. Definitely check this place out if your child has shown interest in martial arts.

I can't say enough good things about this dojo, the martial arts form it teaches, as well as the Instructors, Josh, Hector and Chris.
I am taking classes as a 41yr old adult and the culture and vibe of the group there is excellent and very welcoming of all newcomers, despite having a core group who have been going there for years and are highly experienced.
I am able to learn technique, forms, as well as get real applied practice through regular sparring.
My back pain is gone since starting to go regularly, I'm getting tremendous cardio with each visit, and am having a blast.
The martial art being taught is also grounded in real world practicality, while also retaining the culture, values, and roots of Shaolin Kung Fu. Sensei Josh, Sifu Chris and Hector are all fantastic teachers.
If you are looking to get fit, get focused and have fun the whole time through a martial art, look no further!

My son has been attending this studio for the past four years, that by itself will tell you what my opinion is. But with this pandemic, the studio really surpassed my expectations. Not only the instructor motivated my child to continue his martial arts knowledge, but did extra work making sure there was a sense of "normalcy" during this strange times. The instructor became an adult outside my house that helped us reassure my child that everything will be OK. I not only recommend the studio, I will be bringing my youngest son very soon.

They are not professional. They are not honest. They promise you something that they never do... really bad.

I've trained at several different martial arts studios and SDSS of Fairfield is by far the best I've seen. A wonderful team with a great approach to teaching traditional martial arts. The style incorporates fitness while focusing on practical self defense principles. Because the techniques are meant to build on each other with repartition and practice, this kind of training is a long term investment. But I would say it's worth every minute you put in. Not only for the training, but the community that has been built here for kids, teens and adults. I would recommend this to anyone looking for self-improvement, a physical outlet, or just wants something fun to do while learning something new.
