BEWARE OF UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES AND LACK OF TRANSPARENCY.
I have not attended the gym for 8 months and since July, I have been trying to cancel my membership, but Edge Fitness/ABC Fitness refuse to process it. Despite not using the gym, they continue to charge additional fees that I never authorized or were properly explained.
This month, I was charged $87.90, including a so-called “enhancement fee” of $63.80, which I never agreed to, and I was already charged this same fee last year. I requested explanations, a copy of my contract, and a breakdown of all charges, but received only evasive responses and no clear answers. They refuse to resolve the issue and continue charging fees that do not apply.
These practices are abusive and unethical. I have had to file formal complaints with my bank, the BBB, and the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
Recommendation: Think twice before joining this gym. Make sure to review your contract carefully because canceling your membership and avoiding unauthorized charges can become a nightmare.

Management is not professional. Some equipment are always broken. They charge you too much $& hidden fees and Personal Training too expensive $$ they lock you into a contract hard to come out.. If you do contract they will get all your money from your account.

Very disappointed with the management at this location. I called on October 27 to ask about a refund and was placed on hold for over 20 minutes before the call was disconnected. When I called back, I was treated disrespectfully and told that a refund was never promised. Despite multiple attempts to get assistance or speak with another manager, my emails continue to be redirected to the same person who mishandled the situation from the start. I was also told that the funds could be applied to other services, but that turned out not to be true. No one from management has reached out to acknowledge or resolve my concerns. This experience has shown a complete lack of professionalism and care for customers.

I'm for 2 years and lastly the staff is a lack of respect I pay 43 dollars which they recommended me to come me and my husband and on 2 occasions we have controversy the first time we waited for 10 minutes that the girl will hang up the phone to put the phone number which we are already for 2 years and you don't say if they don't want to happen this my husband takes out the Membership and you pass normal with attitude another person bored us quickly that we arrived on another occasion and since he saw us he came out and tells his partner not to put the system which we tell him that there is no one in customer service the racist gentleman is called Noa he has glasses and a disrespectful person I don't know what the problem but he got the wrong job because with that attitude he wouldn't get far here there are cameras everything would be recorded

Do not sign up for a membership here. I signed up for a monthly membership and after signing it was changed to an annual membership. When I signed up no minimum time was present in writing and I absolutely stated I was only interested in a month to month basis. Shortly after pointing this out the first time I received an email stating my membership was ending with instructions to become a member again. After this point they have continued to charge me, and have never sent any bill or invoice.

I joined Edge Fitness in February 2024 at $26.58/month. By March 2025, it jumped to $32.96, and by August 2025, it hit $37.21, nearly a 40% increase since February 2025.
When I went in to ask about renewing at a stable 12-month rate after the first price hike, staff told me there was “no real difference in price for the standard membership” and encouraged me to stay month-to-month so I won’t be locked in. What they didn’t mention:
1) You still need 30 days’ notice to cancel, so it’s not truly flexible.
2) You’re fully exposed to price jumps that happen quietly (from 26.58 - 37.21!!!!)
3) Plus, there’s an annual “enhancement fee” though you are month to month (lol), $53.16 in 2024 and $63.80 in 2025. At this pace, I’ll be paying $75 in fees by 2026 with no added benefits if I might add.
Where is the flexibility???? And to make matters worse, you are always being redirected to an email instead of someone to speak to from customer service, then they take days to answer.
The gym itself is fine, but the billing practices are deceptive. The staff downplay the real costs, and the “month-to-month” flexibility is just a marketing illusion. Read through everything in writing before handing over your card info!!!!

Great equipment, solid classes, clean facilities...
My girlfriend goes here regularly and has endured NON-STOP sexual harassment by male guests. She has told them no and that she had a partner, yet they continued to harass. She reported this to management as well as to one of the class instructors. Zero action taken.
Additionally, she witnessed another female VERY loudly confront management with similar allegations.
I can NOT with a clear conscience recommend this gym for females.

This gym was amazing when I was going here. I relocated to Waltham, MA and there is nothing but $100 a month gyms and Planet Fitness' nearby. You don't know what you got til it's gone! Miss the facilities and people here greatly.

God forgive me for doing this late, if I didn't post before. This is for some of the stretches that are done in some group classes. Back in 2023 I was staying at a family member and I figured it was close by so I went to more classes. Something crazy happened. It felt like I was part of some ritual, because people ran in a circle, and I started feeling strange, a little confused. Have not done a group class, because I am more mindful of what I allow into my spirit. Things either help us or hurt us. Plus the whole downward dog and all those poses are from yoga. Yoga is a form of worshiping other gods in Hindu. It is demonic for Christians. Be mindful of what you are engaging in, if you have no clue. This is for the ones who are unaware. For the ones who knows and do not care, it is your life and your consequences. Be bless.

El Contrato es una aberración cuando cumplí unos 7 meses quería cambiar mi plan de strong a básico fui a preguntar y me dijeron que tenia que pagar unos cargos por ser antes de un año entonces no lo hice y espere a cumplir el año, fui nuevamente y me dijeron que tenia que esperar otro mes mas para poder cambiar mi membresía se llego el mes y ahora que lo fui a cambiar me han dicho que de todos modos tengo que pagar ese cargo de $53 dólares y todavía este mes me van a cobrar el paquete strong de $49 cuando claramente hace meses vengo diciendo que no lo quiero mas,

I had my training consultation with Nic. We did an assessment then a training session exemplifying what you get when working with a trainer. He puts the “edge” in training. Having worked with prior trainers, he was attentive, knowledgeable and gave an exciting example of what it’s like working with a trainer again. Went to check out with a friend and put in a good workout. Was surprised by the size and how much selection they have as far as equipment and areas to do all types of different exercises. The staff was great and the people were polite enough. Definitely will be going for another visit.

visited the edge gym today in hamden, with my sister. it was an amazing gym, i love that they have classes throughout the day and really prioritize fitness by having different studios for different types of training. i gave two stars because i brought my son to the edge kidz. i was already nervous because i don't let anyone watch my son but my sister bring her kids there often so i thought it would be fine. When i went to pick my son up another child was crying and i saw one of the worker throw his hands up, get up aggressively and say "whatever, i don't get paid enough for this" i don't think he expected us to walk in. He then gave my sister a hard time about picking up her kids because he only saw her husbands name on the account (even though my sister is the one who dropped them off to someone else who was working the front desk.) he was like "whatever" and just signed them out to her. regardless of if they were dropped off by her, he didn't know that for certain because he wasn't the one up front. he didn't verify. which children were being released to her or anything. so yes i would visit the edge in hamden again i might even sign up but i WILL NEVER bring my baby there and neither should you. unless they get more compassionate staff who ACTUALLY like children.

Trainers do not train people to put equipment away after 7s8ng them, or wipe down machines when the are done. Trainers do not show people correct machines for exercises, they allow phones on the floor, sorry I want to go to the gym and get out, I don't want to wait for 30 minutes while people play on thier phones

So this is actually a 4 star review but I understand that different locations have different dna's and I also understand that the elderly need a place that they can go that's not as loud but this location is very quiet I go to the orange location and I like that it's upbeat and vibrant this location serves its purpose but not exactly the vibe

I had to take two stars off my original rating. While the staff are very friendly and competent, the gym has gone downhill in my opinion. Since I joined, we've gone from three to two to one working tanning unit. The Cinema went away as well, and we've never had a sauna like many of the other Edge gyms. I also wonder if cost cutting is the driver behind some of the cleanliness issues. Case in point, this Dumdum pop in the tanning room has been in the exact same spot for at least a week (see attached photo). Going a week without mopping or even sweeping is just gross!

This Edge location is a pretty decent gym. It has most things you would want in a gym. They have great group classes!!! Lots of weights and equipment. Enough that you rarely have to wait long for a machine even when they are busy. The staff are very friendly and are always smiling and welcoming. There are a few things lacking that other gyms or fitness locations have, such as a sauna, hot tub, pool, etc. A better inforced dress code wouldn't hurt for some of the barely dressed men and women who work out here, though. Other than that I would definitely recommend them over places like planet fitness, golds, etc.

This location is the worse in customer service I call and ask for the manager and they just hang up the phone..On 12/27/2024 I went to edge on Hamden a 4am and the place was closed waited 15 minutes to see if they will open but they never showed up..this is the second time that didn’t open one time that’s not professional the manager need to step up and respect peoples boundaries

I've been going to this gym for many years. I love this gym, especially after they added many more machines. Its more spacious. I do wish they add a Sauna in the lady's room. Would be very beneficial and feel that they can get more customers that way.

I just completed 2months of personal training with Anthony McCoy. I have had several personal trainers in a few gyms and Anthony, by far, is the best. His 17 years of experience is notable. After identifying your goals, he challenges you to meet them. I highly recommend him.

The Edge is a nice gym. My only complaint is the gym etiquette. There’s a lot of people who do not rerack their weights or clean the benches/machines after use. I wish they made people watch a gym etiquette

GOTO PLANET FITNESS. I joined this gym intending to work with a personal trainer. I meet with Louis Rodriguez, the person in charge of the personal training department, and signed up. I had told him I wouldn’t be able to start for another 6 weeks so we scheduled my first 2 appointments and decided we would do the rest when we got closer to that actual beginning of the personal training.
Unfortunately, when I got home, I read further through the contact and realized there were things in it that Louis never disclosed to me. There was a fee of $50/month he never mentioned and with the way he set it up I would have paid $320 before I even had my first personal training appointment, Furthermore, when giving me a tour I asked him if the gym has a NuStep machine. He said yes and motioned to the area behind us in the back. Unfortunately, no such machine existed there.
The contract stated that I could cancel within the first 2 days if I sent an email to a certain address. So, I sent an email to said address, showed it to Louis and he said I would get a check in the mail for my refund. Of course, said check never arrived. I stopped by the gym multiple times and either he wasn’t their or was busy. I had to call multiple times because he was never available and apparently has no email address or voicemail. If sending an email to the gyms main email address on their site was no help.
In the end I would avoid this gym or at least their personal training department. Lous Rodriguez will knowingly lie right to your face and will make it difficult to get in contact with him. Of course, if you’re signing up & giving them money for a service it will be completely the opposite. I was signed up for training sessions among other things that I never signed up for myself. I also received multiple spam emails and calls from them. Just go to Planet Fitness. Everything there is much more straight forward and honest when it comes to signing any contract.

My Sister and I are regulars of this gym but is about to reconsider due to lack of front desk being on it in regard to customer service. I wanted to purchase a drink and the front desk clerk just walks away and talks to her co workers. No awareness. And this is after handling another customer who took up a huge amount of time. I will not be purchasing anything else from this gym. And now on the verge of leaving this gym. This is now the 2nd time this happened. The quality has lowered in customer service ever since. Especially on the Front Desk.

I'd give ten stars if I could. I have two toddlers who can be "extra" sometimes, yet I never worry when I do drop off. (My one year old is very clingy to mommy)
These guys are very interactive with the kids, and have a gift with creating a energetic yet calm environment. My 2 year old is very sensitive to "manic" activity, so I'm so grateful for the way they handle her!
I truly can't brag on these guys enough for the environment they so craftily create. There's just such a good FLOW... NO FORCING.

I will not recommend anyone signing up for the edge, especially if you have a move/or unstable living situation. The process to cancel my account has been so frustrating as you go through multiple avenues of communication till they accept your cancelation.
As per the terms of the written agreement, you are required to fulfill a one-year contract with them and also provide one month's notice prior to requesting cancellation of your account. (which was not communicated by the individual working the desk at the hamden location when I inquired to cancel my membership)
On their page, it's stated a contract could be annulled for moving reasons however, I completed my year contract and moved. I was not communicated by the worker at this gym, you need to start the cancellation of your membership a month prior or else you get charged an extra cycle.
I even reached out to ABC fitness via email to Customer Care then on the phone with representative Jaya. Pretty much being relayed a script and that they don't have any jurisdiction to make exception (even though it was communicated I moved multiple times in and that their website stated they make exceptions to annul a year contract but not make an exception to charging the next cycle). I was deferred to another email to reach out to.
Extremely disappointed in this Fitness Club and the individual who worked at the desk.
TLDR; don't apply to the edge unless you want to deal with an extremely inconvenient cancellation process.

The edge is no longer what it used to be. I’ve been a member for about 12 years, and my satisfaction with the gym has declined . Broken equipment remains un -repaired for extended periods of time. Although they have big facilities, most of the time Hamden’s is overcrowded. Room and equipment that used to be available to all members are now limited to members who are in classes. If a room is closed, the equipment in that room should be made available elsewhere in the gym (spin bikes).

The Edge Fitness Club in Hamden, CT., in my humble opinion, is an excellent gym for people of all fitness levels for many reasons.
The first reason(s) I choose The Edge in Hamden is because of the employees that work there. From the general manager to the front desk associates and personal trainers; they're all wonderful people that have your best interests at heart. They're friendly, engage in conversation, always greet you with a smile, and simply want to see you achieve your fitness goals.
The second reason I choose The Edge in Hamden is because the gym is well stocked with modern equipment. They have a wide range of strength based machines as well as a large dumbbell selection.
The third reason i choose The Edge in Hamden is because of its esthetically pleasing and spacious design. As a seasoned gym-goer, it makes sense to me just as much as it would make sense to someone just starting their fitness journey.
If you're reading this review and wondering if the Edge in Hamden, CT. is the right gym for you, trust me when I say it can be if you make it that way. Because I made it that way, and if I can, you can, too.

Well maintained, lots of space, very clean, respectful environment. People of various ages and abilities. Zumba, yoga, Boot Camp, etc. I use the Hamden facility.
UPDATE a year later: Still good. I’ve been going frequently to the Derby Edge, nearer to work. Only difference: Derby repairs its machines right away.

I was in CT for FMLA and picked up 3 separate 1 month memberships while there. Edge in Hamden was absolutely fantastic. The members were friendly, desk staff were always friendly and cheerful, and 100% ready to help. And the atmosphere throughout the gym is bright, well spaced out and accommodating. I'm an older guy (54) and been lifting heavy since I was 12. On top of that, I'm an ER nurse and been in healthcare for 30+ years. Couple that with a lifetime of partying hard and fighting in my youth (not to mention continually dealing with ER violence) and my body has been through the wringer, pummeled to hell and back. As a result, my shoulders are sort of shot. Yes, there's a point to this - staff member Angela is an angel. She walked me through the free 1 hr PT session offered after signing up and helped me focus on what I need to do in order to make sure I warm up enough. Her guidance was a big help and her demeanor and professionalism were absolutely top notch. So - thank you. :)

DO NOT GO HERE!!! THEY TELL STUDENTS THAT THEY MAY CANCEL AT ANY TIME BUT TRULY IS NOT THE CASE. THIS GYM IS LIKE SIGNING UP FOR A LIFETIME SENTENCE AND WILL CHARGE YOU EVEN WHEN YOU GO HOME FOR THE SUMMER. Their payment is collected by a financial company and it only them who may cancel your membership, not even the manager at EDGE may do it. It seems as if EDGE fitness is home of the rats, and a breeding ground for mice. This company and facility left a sour taste in my mouth and i hope every one of their employees know that they are working for a crooked company who can't make money unless they screw over innocent college kids within the fine print. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy because i wouldn't wish something that bad on someone.

The gym is fine.
One star because of the 3rd party billing company you guys use for some bizarre reason. I would suggest not using this gym simply because of the scam of a company ABCfitness solutions, the billing company used. Not only was my membership rate increased (at a rate NOT outlined in my signed agreement), there is no way to get ahold of ABCfitness solutions customer service. You can call their line, and it's just an automated system that can tell you what you owe.
You can email them and get canned responses over and over again, threatening how they'll send your account to collections and that they want to "work with you" to resolve the issue, even though the only "working with you" they do is send you canned responses, over and over again.
Finally, after TWENTY-SIX EMAILS over 3 weeks back and forth, I finally got a response from a human saying "Sorry!!! we're just the third party billing company, any charges are done through your home club we have nothing to do with it."
Meanwhile the front desk staff said "we dont control billing, contact this company [abcfitness]."
Absolutely AWFUL company, you guys need to detatch yourselves from this billing company. I will be telling friends NOT to use this gym specifically because of the nightmare that is ABCfitness "solutions".

Christian Rich was so awesome he took care of all my concerns and was very helpful, he honestly made me feel comfortable even after talking about my weight which to me is a very uncomfortable topic even after my weight gain. He offered me a one on one session with a trainer to be able to assist my needs and goals and assist with showing me how to utilize some of the machines at the gym. Depends on the day, but the front desk people are not as welcoming as a year ago. The front desk staff should be more welcoming and helpful when people sign in or ask questions. I feel like the front desk staff who were hired are more robotic, fake and don’t care for the sense of community gyms are suppose to have. Otherwise the trainers are very caring and helpful and there is many fitness equipment for various training goals.

Their billing department is shady. According to their policy you can break contract if it is due to medical reason. We submitted doctors note for my son's knee injury along with the cancelation request. They still continued to charge us .

I am a college student with essentially a week left on winter break. I was considering a membership for when I get back for summer break, so I got the 7-day pass that they advertise of the website. I drove to this location and was told they don't give "freebie" 7-days passes out to college students. I understand the premise of such a restriction; however, the website and subsequent emails I received omitted this fact. If I had known about this earlier, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to get a "7-day pass" and drive to this location. While I know it is up to each location's discretion, I would of liked to have known/have it listed somewhere on the website or emails about this restriction instead of having to go directly to the club to find this out. The associate at the desk was cordial and walked me through the different membership plans. Yet describing the 7-day pass as a "freebie" did not come across well. The pass is meant to give potential customers a trial run of the Edge before they pay a significant amount of money for a membership. Calling it a "freebie" insinuates that people (in this case me) are using it to their advantage. I am sure the associate did not mean that when using the term, but that is how I interpreted it in the moment. It did not sit well with me as that was not my intention. For people who submit their information for a 7-day pass, I would advise you to call your location first and confirm you meet the requirements to utilize a 7-day pass. Other than that the interaction was positive.

Probably the worst gym in the market. If you are in college and want a gym membership i suggest going somewhere else for your time there. I moved back home and they refused to cancel my membership. i have been trying to cancel my membership for 6 months now and I have been promised multiple times that my gym membership would be cancelled and they still continued to charge me even though i have emails confirming that they already cancelled it. this is the biggest joke of a business i have ever been involved with. They say one thing, and forget everything about it once you hang up the phone. might as well do push up in you living room and bicep curls with your groceries, it will save you from going crazy with this establishment trust me.
