I’ve never encountered such a lack of professionalism in club management as I have at The Edge Fitness in West Hartford. The immaturity displayed by both the manager and assistant manager reflects just how poorly this location is being run. It’s astonishing how leadership positions can be held by individuals who seem to have no understanding of professionalism, respect, or accountability. I recently came across a review for another Edge location that described its management as “incompetent with God complexes.” Honestly, that same description fits this club perfectly. The inflated egos, lack of courtesy, and overall disregard for member experience make it clear that strong leadership and genuine customer service are missing here.
Until the leadership culture changes, the club’s potential will continue to be overshadowed by poor management and unprofessional behavior.

Worst Edge location ever! The front desk employees have terrible customer service they don’t even acknowledge or greet you when you walk in. Management is just as bad!!!! they avoid dealing with issues and make it nearly impossible to get a refund or a clear answer.
I’ve been to the Edge locations in Hamden, Bristol, Meriden and Orange and none of them compare to how poorly this one is run. West Hartford needs better management and staff training ASAP!!!!!!!!!!! It feels like they care more about taking your money than treating members with respect. Do better!

Nice gym overall. Well-equipped, and with friendly staff, but their sales tactic is awful. I pay for the highest-tier Strong membership only to bring a guest, yet every time I do, they’re made to wait and then pushed to a sales rep who has to sign them in on their computer using their email, then they haggle guest to sign up on the spot. After 10+ years of going to different gyms, I’ve never seen such an aggressive and unnecessary approach. A guest pass should be a simple scan and go, not a sales pitch. The gym itself is good, but this tactic leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me question renewing my membership.

Would be the perfecttt gym if it werent always so cold and breezy. Makes it difficult to stay warm and sweat. Temperature is awful. If someone interrupts me to say hello which happens often. In less than a minute conversation I am freezing and have to warm up again.

Update 9/2025. Gym is still freezing and zero changes have been made since the company responded to my first bad review. And employees have told me settings here have remained the same. Disappointing. Everyone complains it’s too cold.

Lots of equipment. Broken machines repaired promptly. Giant ceiling fans provide excellent air circulation all year round. The gym is well laid out, with sensible groupings of equipment. Great free weights section, with a bunch of full power racks, not just half racks. I've been lifting for over 55 years; Edge West Hartford is by far the best gym I've seen. Keep up the good work!

I was in search of a gym to join, and overall I’m giving this location 3 stars because the staff was genuinely amazing — very friendly and helpful.

That said, as a first-time visitor, I was completely thrown off by the gym itself. The equipment setup felt overwhelming, with machines packed in tightly, which made the atmosphere less welcoming. I also didn’t see a Smith machine (and if there was one, it wasn’t easy to find).

The equipment appeared a bit outdated, though still functional. Since I only had a guest pass, I didn’t get access to other areas of the gym, which made it difficult to fully evaluate the facility.

The daycare closed at 12 and reopened at 4:30 which left me working out with the after work crowd which was additionally overwhelming.

Overall, I did not feel the experience warranted me joining.

The Edge Fitness Clubs as a whole are terrible. They have zero customer service. When you bring any concerns or request to them they brush you off, say they can’t do anything and to email their ABCFitness contact. The staff don’t know anything about the policy’s and give false information.

I signed up for a promotional 2 year contact, after 3 visits to their gym I decided it wasn’t the right fit for me. Overcrowded, no equipment available and the whole vibe of the gym is just for show. I asked to cancel my membership as I no longer wanted to go and wanted to sign up for kickboxing instead. They were incredibly unhelpful it was like talking to a brick wall, just all around no’s. I said fine and never returned. Later I moved apartments and asked to transfer my home gym to a closer location. They sent me a document to e-sign, signed it. And somehow the location was never updated. My partner did the same with his membership. He started going to the new location, months after he going almost everyday they have the audacity to say it’s not his home gym and kick him out. Ridiculous!!! After signing documents to change it they can’t get it right. I sent them a complaint….utter silence. The contract ended earlier this month, I selected do NOT auto-renew but come to find out they still charge me. I went
to the west Hartford location and they tell me I need to provide them 30 days written notice to ABC Fitness. I’m furious after months of trying to get this membership cancelled not one person mentions that come end of contract they still need 30 days notice to cancel. They do not care about people all they want is your money and their image. Would never recommend the Edge.

The worst gym when it comes to customer service. They are very unorganized as a management team. The equipment in the gym is fine, but if you need to talk about your membership, changing your payment method or anything requiring a human this gym is terrible. Canceling the membership is difficult, they love to charge you with fees on top of fees (and I’m not talking about the annual maintenance) If I could pay you random review reader $15 to not choose this gym, I would. Save yourself the trouble and workout anywhere other than the EDGE.

This is the worst gym I’ve ever been to. I’ve seen people vaping on the floor while working out, and many members set up tripods to film themselves. Regulars often leave heavy plates on the equipment without re-racking them. When I brought these issues to the staff, they showed no concern.

This is my gym, so of course I like it! But really, they keep it clean, they keep machines working, and they're not too pushy on the sales side. Overall, just a good gym to go to.

It was my first time at West Hartford location and I loved it, very clean and welcoming staff but I came here for ES class with coach Eve she is absolutely the best!!! I feel challenged and satisfied when I leave after her work out. I would absolutely recommend Edge and coach Eve !If you want to be challenged and get in the best shape that you can, coach Eve is the one . I lost 30 lbs in one year and got six pack, she keeps me motivated to be my best and do better then I think I can sometimes!

This gym is quite frankly one of the dirtiest and low vibe environments I’ve been to for a workout. The women’s bathroom is not kept whatsoever, the wipes used to clean the machines are all over the floor in the main room, staff is not great at greeting and on more than one occasion, some of the members REEK of weed. Not upholding the standard of West Hartford in the least. Bristol much better. Get it together Edge.

It’s my second day signed up this week butttttt my first and second day there are men in the women’s 2nd floor area. I understand the woke culture but these are complete masculine men up here 😅 . I thought paying for the top tier package this was one of the features a woman section . Ladies I understand you love your man, I love mine too !! I'm not sure if this gym got new management but from 5 broken treadmills (weeks) until fixed, dusty towers, always out of wipes to clean machines, one pair of matching handles for cables, it sure hasnt gone unnoticed. Great genuine experience with staff personal trainer Gianni. Very knowledgeable on nutrition/supplements and provided helpful recommendations to reach fitness goals! Appreciate his willingness to assist and check in on progress since he joined the team. They are terrible at managing inventory. I’ve been going here since October they have been out of stock of chocolate protein twice. Reasonable Gym, nothing too great and not completely a dud. Manager is not approachable or communicative/ responsive, staff is good. You go, do your stuff and come back. TV screens on the cardio machines do not work regularly and some channels especially CNN seem to be blocked purposefully. When asked about certain channels the response was "This is what it is". So a okay type of gym.

Overall 5 star to this gym. But today and on Sundays music is too loud to even hear my own music and or book. I always listen to books when I am working out and it’s very distracting and harsh to listen music that loud. It should not be too loud to bother clients. Had the pleasure of working with James for Personal Training. Could not say anything negative about his coaching style as well as the rest of the Edge staff. James was very communicative, and always enthusiastic to help individuals reach their goals. Have been working out since the start of my military career and am still learning many things from James. The attitude I received from the manager Ashley was so out of line. I have been coming here for years and not once have I ever complained or had any problems. I have a guest pass and I come in with my sister. Not once has anyone asked me for her phone number for the guest pass. Today Ashley asked me for it, which was no big deal. However, when I asked if it was new because I have never been asked that before she just kept repeating herself what her phone number was with the worst attitude. I have never felt so uncomfortable before at the gym.

This place is very small a lot of the machine. It doesn’t work perfectly specially the spinning machine all the bottoms not working
The locker and restroom very dirty all the time
We have big issue with the parking lot. We cannot find space to park our car. We have to keep looking and 15 minutes just to find a parking lot
So many members and the place is very small
A lot of peoples sitting on the workout machine and playing games on the phone and we have to wait until they finish their games to use the machine and no one of the staff members talking to them

If I could give less stars I would. I cancelled my membership for a few reasons, but a big one being my kids were constantly getting sick at the day care. They allow kids in with green snore dripping into their mouths, so EVERYONE gets sick. Every other week I wouldn’t be able to go because I’m not a jerk trying to get other people kids sick. But the staff is ultimately responsible for turning parents with sick kids away. But they don’t, and the workers bring their OWN sick kids in. But anyways that wasn’t even my biggest issue. I can understand that no one has a backbone anymore. The woman I spoke to about cancelling my membership did two clicks over the phone and said “all set! Just have to let you know you have to pay another payment due to your contract.” No problem for me whatsoever . But when the second payment came from my account 60 days later and I called they claimed my phone call never happened and they don’t cancel over the phone??? So how exactly was I “all set”. My boyfriend called multiple times, left messages for the manager to call him back 5 times. SHE never did. Not once. But the next time we’d call the employee would say, “oh yea I see a note here for you to get a call”. 4 months go by, we are still fighting with them to cancel. They said send an email FINALLY. My boyfriend did. At this point we are still trying to be patient and respectful to the staff. They used his email to cancel ONLY his membership when almost a dozen times we talked to staff in relation to 4 accounts. Never just one. They said because we didn’t respond to a corresponding email 3 accounts were active. The staff is very well trained to have each others backs and try and keep the customer confused and in contract. I finally went into the gym with my 2 toddlers to speak directly to a manager. She didn’t address any of the theft, any of the comments I made about the hundreds of 1 star reviews on google with people having my EXACT experience. She had her best politician face on. If I were her or an employee of this company I would be embarrassed, you guys aren’t getting paid enough to scam people the way you do. She made zero apologies, took no accountability for never calling back. Anyways, she was ever so gracious enough to refund one months worth of payments for 3 accounts. Supposedly. Because I was supposed to get that 2 days ago, just called and she was on vacation so now it’s Friday. Was not told last week that my refund would take longer to be processed per her vacation. Hope you had a great vacation while my credit card continues to gain interest on payments I didn’t authorize. I will spend my entire life recommending ANY other gym than this one.

*revised post* I have recently been returning to this gym and I am happy to say they have done their best to keep up with the gym. Last time I went there were frustrations with organization of weights and gym in general. And I must say there has been a big turn around! numerous times I have seen staff assisting with re racking weights correctly for members (which is unfortunate) but the overall gym has drastically stepped up. Staff is always a pleasure to interact with and assist when needed. Thank you staff for all you guys do I am sure it is frustrating but I appreciate your work.

- There is minimum of a 1 year contract when signing up.
- There are an exorbitant amount of fees.... fees for changing your membership terms ($50), a yearly maintenance fee ($50), a fee for getting a new card ($5)... this gym is deceptively more expensive than advertised.
- Music is loud
- Some of the workers are impolite and appear uninterested
-I’ve had multiple pieces of gym equipment (straps, jump ropes, clamps, etc.) stolen from me over the past 2 years I’ve been going here

- There's a wide variety of equipment to use
- It has decent amenities, shake bar, sauna, a women's only section and tanning bed
- Is kept relatively clean.

This gym has the most invasive and predatory sales procedure ive ever seen. I went to the gym as a guest 2 times, after the first I was called 3 times, meetings were set up on my behalf to sign up for a membership. After the second time ive been contacted multiple more times, after hanging up on all calls I still get texts and calls daily. I was considering getting a membership but this completely predatory behavior has made me reconsider. Any other gym is a better option, do not go to this gym.

Impossible to cancel membership, even if you move and provide documents. You can call the parent company to cancel, but you can't speak to an agent and there are no cancellation options. You can email the parent company, but they will never respond.

Outside of not being able to cancel, and the joke of a customer service center, I would give the gym 3/5 - it's got great equipment but is always packed.

Update from edge fitness response: When signing up I knew I would move in ~6 months. The agent signing me up (I believe she was the manager) said that I could cancel prematurely provided that I submit documents proving a change in residence. Under those conditions I signed up, and here I am 3 months after moving and providing the necessary documents, still getting charged.

If youre going to bill me for a studio meant for women only and let men into with the disclaimer that these studios "arent available in CT" (despite this company being started in CT) then dont put the PRIVATE STUDIO attached to the WOMENS locker room. Im sick of men being in what is clearly supposed to be a women only space.

Please do your research about how predatory the edge is in the billing practices. You'll see their parent company ABC billing will do ANYTHING to take your money. I cancelled my membership and they sent me a FAKE refund amount. The manager who helped me gave me insane attitude for the mere attempt and getting my refund, and after the fake receipt of it there is nothing a person can do. My review here is not unique. Do your research before joining because they do not care about your nor will they do anything to remedy their practices.

Staff/management. Purchased a shake at the counter. The staff member filled up a small 20 ounce cup. At least 1/4 of a shake was left in the blender. When I asked for the remainder of the shaken I separate cup, I was told that management was cracking down and they weren’t allowed to give me the rest of the shake that I paid for and preferred to dump it into the sink. Not only was it a waste of money, but also I didn’t get the nutrients as advertised. Maybe management should consider buying bigger cups if they’d rather dump out at paying customers shake.

Horrible customer service to cancel a membership! Canceled last month, called again today because I was charged. Young man who answered the phone told me he could help me then put me on hold, after 10 minutes I hung up and called back. No assistance was offered. Asked for a manger, was told they were out of the building and the corporate person that was there is busy. Told him to get her so I can be assisted. Put on hold again for another 8 minutes. Called back. No answer for 20 minutes until a young woman answered the phone yelling at me that she just got off her lunch break and hung up on me. Guess what? I still don't have a refund! Don't waste your money on a company that lets their staff treat people like this! Horrific.

No parking, ever. The staff plays their own music so loud that conversation means yelling and you can't hear your own music in your earphones. The staff also hates the members or are indifferent to them. Women have to pay extra for access to the secure "women-only" area. At night, this place turns into a club. For two hours before closing, staff yells into the loudspeaker that they will be closing in two hours and the place is vacuumed and 1/2 equipment becomes unusable. ALL DAY EVERY DAY THE HEAVY LIFTING EQUIPMENT IS OCCUPIED AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT, SOMETIMES OVER AN HOUR.

Brad always has a great plan and is very personable. He takes into account my goals with everything we do.
