I’ve been a member for close to 5 years now, and it has been the best 5 years I’ve had consistently chasing fitness by a mile. The members are fun, encouraging, and without ego, and that makes it much more enjoyable. For the first time ever, I’ve enjoyed working with weights, since it turns out that programming, coaching, and education make a big difference. They are also great at helping you work through an injury or trouble spot that you may have. Recently I transitioned from CrossFit, which with good coaching is not as scary as it sounds, to their powerlifting program and the coaching has helped me a ton through both. I can’t even count how many tips I’ve picked up from coaches about nutrition, workouts outside of the gym, or anything related to the other 23 hours in the day that are all part of it.

I’ve been going to this gym for 5 years now and loved every minute of it! Very scaleable workouts and the barbell club is an amazing group of people that I’ve loved working out beside.

I've been a member at this gym since 2019, and I can't recommend it enough. The standout to me is how adaptable the staff/programming is to your fitness goals and needs. If you want to be a highly competitive strength athlete, this gym is for you. If you want to get/maintain a general/practical level of strength and fitness, this gym is for you. If you're somewhere in between, this gym is for you.

If your goals change at any point, the staff will be there to support you. A few examples from my experience: when I got serious about increasing my squat depth, a staff member gave me a short daily stretching routine that really helped my flexibility. When I would miss a few weeks or months of training for various reasons, staff members would help me safely ease back into training. If an injury did come up (for me, mostly from things outside the gym), the staff would help modify workouts to make sure I could still train effectively while recovering. When I decided to run a marathon, the staff gave me nutrition tips and helped me find the right balance between running and lifting training so that I could avoid injury and not wear myself out while my body adapted to a new training load.

The gym even adapted well to external events, like the pandemic, offering at-home workouts that didn’t require gym equipment but still maintained fitness (I didn’t notice much of a decrease in strength when we got back into the gym) for the first few months, and then modifying the class structure to meet health and safety recommendations when things opened back up again. Hopefully nothing like that happens again, but if it does, you can be sure that Viking Athletics won’t leave you hanging.

Other reviews mention the awesome community, quality of coaching, variety of programming, etc., and I agree with all of that. But what has always stuck out to me in contrast to other gyms I have attended is that you have a bunch of different people with a bunch of different (and often changing) fitness goals, and this gym is genuinely supportive of all of them. You’ll get out what you put in at any level, but there’s no pressure to put in more than you can/are willing to at any given moment. So as I said at the start, wherever you are on your fitness journey, this gym is for you.

Joining Viking Athletics has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself in the past several years. I was intimidated to start but, I shouldn’t have been because the coaches were able to scale all the workouts and fit them to my fitness level. After working out on my own for a long time and then trying other group fitness classes, I never felt like I was making any steady progress in my strength goals. But, once I joined the CrossFit program, I very quickly got stronger and improved my overall conditioning.

More than anything though, I have appreciated the support of the coaches and the community this gym has provided. It always feels like a positive environment where everybody is cheering you on and excited to see your progress. I couldn’t recommend Viking enough!

I found Viking athletics when I was looking for a gym near my college, I have felt welcomed since the first day I walked in. Not only is the gym itself great, the coaches are absolutely awesome, they’re knowledgeable and enthusiastic at every single class. I have enjoyed the programming and encouragement from everyone. And as I’ve seen they adjust every single workout for everyone’s needs. The coaches also provide cues that have always helped me. Overall the community is wonderful and I’d recommend Viking to anyone passing through or looking for a gym!

Great job team - I'm excited about working with you all in 2025 and deepening relationships with other members.

I’ve been coming to Viking Athletics for a month now after attending a large, well-known CrossFit box for two years.

I’ve had a great experience here so far, and I feel like my skills have improved more in the last month than in my previous two years in CrossFit.

Everyone is very nice and supportive, and there’s lots of good, well-maintained equipment to use.

Viking Athletics is truly in a league of its own! I’ve had the opportunity to participate in both CrossFit classes and personal training/nutrition sessions, and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. The CrossFit classes are thoughtfully programmed, with scalable options to suit all fitness levels, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and challenged. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and provide clear, personalized feedback to help you improve your form and maximize results while staying safe.

What really sets this gym apart is the community. It’s more than just a place to work out—it’s a space where people genuinely support and cheer each other on. The energy is contagious, and it keeps you coming back for more. On the personal training and nutrition side, the tailored guidance has been a game-changer for me. The coaches go above and beyond with everything from custom workouts to nutrition tips, helping me stay on track both in and out of the gym.

Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, Viking Athletics offers something special. The combination of expert coaching, a welcoming community, and top-notch programming makes it the perfect place to build strength, improve fitness, and stay motivated. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a gym that truly stands out!

More than a gym. These guys are anchors in the community and they train for life.

I used to wander around different globo-gyms without a sense of direction. Here I train with focus, discipline and a sense of community accountability and support. Also a shout-out to everything the coaches do beyond the classes—recipe ideas, nutrition, training seminars, workout ideas for the road , you name it. Cheers to an upcoming 2025 👍👍👍

Viking Athletics is an exceptional gym, and I highly recommend it! The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and always provide feedback during workouts, helping you maintain proper form and ensuring a safe training environment.

What truly sets this gym apart is its amazing sense of community. Everyone cheers each other on, creating a fun, supportive, and inspiring atmosphere. The workouts are thoughtfully planned and available in their app, making it easy to prepare for sessions or create personalized plans if you’re working on other areas outside the gym.

Every workout is tailored so anyone can participate, no matter their fitness level. There are scaling options for everyone, and the coaches will guide you to find what works best for you!

Each session lasts an hour, giving you the perfect balance between efficiency and effectiveness (great for busy people who want to make gains while staying on schedule).

Viking Athletics is an outstanding place to work out, build strength, and be part of a truly inspiring and dedicated community!

This was my second year dropping into this box and it’s great! Was able to drop in a couple times during my visit to the area this year and a few times last year and every session, I’ve felt welcomed and had great workouts. Community was kind, coaches were motivating and gave great instruction, and the workouts were fun/balanced. I’ll continue to drop in when I’m in town in the future.

Great gym! Personal training is top notch. Every workout is individualized to get clients to achieve their own fitness and lifestyle goals. Definitely not a one size fits all plan. I can’t recommend Viking Athletics enough. My wife and I have been a part of the Viking Athletics for 8 months now and we could not be happier. I’ve been a member at Viking Athletics for over two years now. I really enjoy coach Erik’s CrossFit programming, as it is super sustainable and balanced within a given week. I’ve experienced both strength and cardiovascular improvements in my fitness while training at Viking Athletics.
All of the coaches are great! They provide very understandable instruction and are always suggesting improvements that are catered to each individual.
Recently, due to an unpredictable and busy personal schedule, I’ve been working with coach Erik in a hybrid fashion, where I split my time training at home (with programming from Erik) and at the gym. I’ve been able to maintain and, in some aspects, improve my fitness even with limited equipment at home. I bring this up to highlight that Viking Athletics can work for anyone, regardless of schedule / time constraints.
I would highly recommend reaching out to Erik if you live in the area and want to join a great community, or are just dropping in for a workout while in town!

I’ve been a member of Viking for a few years now. Before that, I worked out at a standard gym but spent a lot of time wandering around different machines and weights without a plan. Fast forward to becoming a Viking member and I’m finally seeing the progress I’ve always wanted.

I’ve lost a significant amount of weight since joining and put on more definition and muscle. I owe it to the programming and staff at Viking. Even in class settings, coaches provide personalized feedback and pointers to help you get the most out of a workout. The workouts are challenging yet adaptable to all fitness levels. I leave every class immediately feeling stronger. One hour and done— easy as that!

If your goals, like mine, are to simply look better and feel better, Viking is worth checking out. Gyms and heavy weights have always intimidated me, but Viking has made it simple. I’ve lifted weight I never thought I’d be able to move and conquered movements I’ve only ever seen “serious athletes” do. And I’ve done it all under the guidance and support of an incredible gym community.

The coaches at Viking are extremely knowledgeable, and it’s obvious they care. They get to know each of us - when to push, when to scale (everything is scalable!), and how to work around any preexisting injuries or limitations. It’s also nice to not have to program / plan out your workout everyday; you just show up, get a productive workout in, enjoy time with the awesome community, and go home. I’ve been really happy with the diversity of workouts/movements and most importantly, the results!

I imagine experienced, skilled athletes can walk into any facility, gauge the equipment and benefit from the experience. That athlete will be improved upon by Viking Athletics because of the quality of the programming and coaching, which will help them reach their goals and beyond. Choices in programming are made purposefully, with the athletes who participate and their progress and growth, in mind.

I, on the other hand am a less experienced, more timid athlete. And I have benefitted as well from the quality of programming and coaching I have received at Viking Athletics. I challenge myself to be willing to suck at new things. Viking has felt like a supportive environment to do this (though due to quality instruction and my own effort, I don't suck at the new things for long!) I am not someone who feels at home in most athletic spaces. But this has been a good space for me and I recommend it to anyone.

Update: 8 months in and still incredibly grateful and satisfied with this experience. I've determined to give myself a year consistently and am so glad this is where I am doing this.

If you want real, life changing results, see you at the gym

I have been a very "happy customer" of Crossfit Relentless in West Hartford for over almost 5 years now. After having two kids, I was on the lookout for an exercise program that was challenging yet efficient for the minimal time I have. Crossfit has been an incredible experience. I like to describe it as "personal training but in a group setting"...I'm paying waaaaayyyyy less than I would to use a personal trainer but still getting great results. The best part is the amazing sense of community there...everyone, including coaches and other members, are constantly encouraging you & pushing you to be the best you can be. You can't get that going to the regular gym walking of the treadmill & doing a few nautilus machines. I especially like how particular the coaches are, making sure we carefully review every motion we are planning to do that day in the workout & use the correct form so injuries are avoided. You can tell they have fantastic training & really care. I feel like Crossfit is a perfect combination of strength, endurance & flexibility training...so you get a little bit of everything...and when you finish a workout you think "I can do anything!!" Within my first year there, I was able to do my first Crossfit competition & run my first 5K thanks to the great training I received at Crossfit Relentless. Its true what the owner said to me on my first day "You can have excuses or results but not both"...so spot on! It was just the kick in the a$$ I needed to take my body & my health back under control. I am proud to say that my body now at age 41 after having 2 kids is better than the one I had at 20 years old. Joining Crossfit Relentless was one of the best decisions I ever made & I honestly can't imagine ever going back to working out in a "regular gym" again. I'm hooked! The new owner Erik Castiglione is amazing. He runs a tight ship and has made it into even more of a cohesive community that ever. There is new equipment and it very clean and organized which I appreciate. If you are thinking of trying it out, I suggest you "rip off the band-aid" & go for it like I did! :o)

Four walls, one roof, surrounding a whole lot of love, that is a home. As a kid those four falls surrounded a stage with bright lights and me twirling in a pair of beat up ballet flats. As a teenager it was four walls surrounding two hoops, one ball and a whole lot of sweat, blood, and tears. Unfortunately I grew out of both of these homes faster than I would have liked. I needed something more infinite But what would I find that would want someone who was too old, or maybe too young, too fat maybe, or even too tired? Would I ever get that four wall feeling again? That's when I heard about Crossfit, I dug through my closet threw on a pair of beat up running shoes and stepped foot inside a a whole new set of walls.Crossfit Relentless, Four walls that surrounded a community, a family, and a WHOLE lot of love. Walls that surrounded me behind a barbell, hell me under a barbell, and the best part.. Now, when I stop to look around its never the walls I see, its the high fives, the coaches, the personal records and the faces of people I will forever call my family. Its home.

Crossfit Relentless has been an integral part of my life and my family's life for a number of years. I personally have been at Crossfit Relentless for about 3.5 years now. When I first started, I was pregnant with my now 2 and 1/2 year old. I can truly say that my family is intertwined with the Relentless family. We have grown together in numbers, time, age, and zest for life. At Crossfit Relentless, I have rediscovered the athlete that I once was, and I have found a joy for fitness and personal health that I was missing for some years. In rediscovering my love for athleticism, I have surrounded myself and my family with a community of people who have inspired me to be better and to expect more. Lastly, I have found a group of people who I can truly say inspire me, bring me daily joy, and who I will call friends for life. When I reflect upon what I need from a gym at this stage in my life, Crossfit Relentless gives me what I need.

This is my 3rd year at Crossfit Relentless. To tell you honestly, I had a family friend (around my age and female) who absolutely swore by this gym and was looking better and better physically. So I got very curious and decided to "try it out". Make a long story short - my friend stopped going to the gym shortly thereafter, but I stayed. I like the coaches, I like the people at CFR. Very supportive atmosphere. Workouts are hard, but even at 49 - I feel like a million bucks - heading out to the attack my work day after 8:30am class. My wife is pleased as pie with "functional fitness" - she gets much more use out of me around the house and around the garden presently - without whining and triple advil treatments in the end of the day. I have MUCH more energy throughout the day when I go to CFR in the morning. It feels very nice to be able to lift heavy object around the house and not worry about "pulling my back". I know what I can lift and I know what I can't (yet) lift. My son's friends think that it's a very nifty party trick when I can squat my "Tiny Tim". Tiny is pushing 230lbs and 6'4" tall. I can't squat him 10 times, but I can squat him 3-5 times reliably, and his peeps think it's a hoot. And so do I. BTW - outside of benchmark WODs - I don't think that I did the same WOD in 3 years. I NEVER know what the heck I'm walking into each morning (cough...Murph...cough). Sometimes I walk in, look at the board, and just shake my head in disbelief that someone would actually dream up such a travesty of a WOD. I'll NEVER finish this one....and when I do finish that particularly twisted WOD, I feel pretty darn good about it. And I live another day to come back and do it again (after a day rest). I only wish that I found this in my 20's or 30'. Not in my late 40's. When I see some of our CFR "quiet warriors" just warming up with my 1 RM. I'm reminded that I'm no 24. And I'm OK with that. Thankfully, I only have to compete against myself - not against Big Bob. Or even Denise.....

From the moment I stepped foot into Crossfit Relentless, I knew I was home. I had recently relocated to West Hartford from Northern California about 4 months ago and needed a new Crossfit home. I had left a big, amazing community back home in NorCal and knew that I needed to find something similar here in Connecticut in order to function properly as Crossfit had become my sanity for the past 2+ years. When I googled Crossfit gyms in the West Hartford and surrounding areas, I found several to choose from, but for some reason, my heart led me to Crossfit Relentless first and foremost and I have never turned back. What I found from day one was a wonderful, loving, supportive, knowledgable community of coaches, owners, and fellow Crossfitters and even more than that, I found me again! I found a place where my heart could sing and my passion could soar to new levels I never knew possible! Every day I walk into CFR, I know I chose the right place....a place where I get to learn and grow each and every time I enter and a place where I get to get an amazing, crazy workout in with people that I love, cherish, adore, and respect. I truly feel as though I never left NorCal (except for the freezing cold weather!!!) and I know I made the right decision because I am amongst family who loves me, supports me, and is constantly helping me to better myself each and every day and for me, that is priceless! The facility is amazing, the coaches are fun and very knowledgable in everything they do and Merle and Glenn put their heart and soul into running the business and it speaks for itself! I couldn't ask for a better "new" home here in Connecticut and I thank everyone at CFR for making me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. You have changed who I am from the core of my being and I am a better person for it today!

I joined crossfit after moving to Hartford in July of 2013. I joined based on swig great results from friends who went to crossfit and a chNce to meet people in a new city

From a workout perspective, relentless was great, I came in thinking I was in shape but quickly realized I had a lot of work to do. The great workouts and the coaches, which are some of the best I have seen anywhere. I can't say enough about how great the coaches are at relentless, the coaches take an interest in the people and ready work to push you to new levels

The people as well are fantastic I have made a number of friends and have regularly stayed in touch after moving away from Hartford. After moving I stayed involved with crossfit but could not duplicate the experience at relentless

So it only took me about 2 years to work up the courage to join Crossfit...and now I seriously regret wasting those two years of my life at LA Fitness : /
All joking aside, Crossfit Relentless has been the best thing to happen to me since moving to CT three years ago. The people are simply amazing, both coaches and members. Doesn't matter if your trying to lose weight/ get fit or trying to get stronger, the coaches will help you every step of the way so that your journey is safe and priceless. Does the owner of your gym know every single member that walks through the door?? Because the owner of this gym does. There is no way you'll slip through the cracks at this place or feel like you don't belong. The workouts are structured and varied in a way that will keep pushing you and prevent plateaus. The coaches are some of the most knowledgeable I've ever worked with and I seriously can not wait to get there every day to see them and do the workout. Fair warning though, if you think this is just another gym you can show up and half a$$ a lame workout, you better look for a Planet Fitness instead because there is no way these guys are going to let you stay fat, lazy, and weak ;)

I had been looking for a place that had trainers (coaches) that knew what they were talking about. As a former collegiate athlete and coach, I had done my fair share of training over the years. I didn't want to pay someone who knew less than me. I was also not interested in pursuing 3 sets of 10 for the rest of my life. What I found at Crossfit Relentless from day one was a knowledgeable staff, from newest coach to owner with over 13+ years in the business. I encountered a group of people that enjoys pushing their own limits while supporting you in your own fitness goals. And I was also introduced to a type of workout that one would never find elsewhere, one that constantly varies and is always challenging. They are the best, the friendliest and most educated fitness facility that one could hope to find. In any state. And I have lived in four different ones. Whether it is a drop in, or a permanent fitness solution, try it. I dare ya ...

I Have been a member of Crossfit Relentless for over 3 years now, joining was one of the best decisions that I have made. One of the things I have enjoyed about my time at Relentless has been getting to know my body better. I did not realize how much I had to learn about simple functional movements. Once I was taught how to move properly by the Coaches at Relentless I was able to undo years of bad form which had been learned at local globo gyms. The result of that is at 42 years of age my body feels like it did when I was in my 20's. I was taught how important body maintenance is to avoid injury in the gym and in life.
The community that has grown around the gym and the coaches is first class. I have made many friend for life there as well as great acquaintances. Being one of the first Crossfit gyms in the area Relentless is deep seated in the greater Crossfit community, holding many competition such as "Festivus" which is for novice and intermediate crossfiters, Relentless has solid relations with Crossfit gyms all over. I look forward to being a member for years to come.

I finally joined crossfit in August. I had been putting if off for a long time not wanting to pay to exercise, but finally caved thanks to my younger brother. I went home to Georgia this summer for my 30th birthday and my brother who is 6 years younger wanted to work out. I have always been bigger, faster, and stronger than him and expected the same until he started lifting weight and doing exercises I could hardly attempt. He had been doing crossfit for a year and I was soundly beaten. I had no choice but to join myself. I found a groupon to crossfit Relentless and joined the SW gym. From the first time I walked in the door and met Glenn I felt the excitement and family environment of the gym. I started out being totally incompetent at every olympic lift, but had mentorship that safely pushed me to do things that I had previously feared. Joining a new gym has been incredible. I have had many one on one sessions with Merle, Glenn, and
Tim that were fun, challenging, and almost always resulted in a new pr. It's also a lot of fun seeing the excitement on your coach's face when you finally accomplish a skill or weight that they have been
helping you with over and over. Crossfit relentless is a great gym. I cannot compare it to other gyms, but I know the comradery with other crossfitters and skills of the coaches are beyond what I expected. I
am thankful to be a part of such a great gym. Pretty soon I will work out with my brother again, and although I still have a ways to catch up I know that I will not be that "old" embarrassing brother again.

I LOVE Crossfit Relentless...I've been working out here since March 2013 and from a fitness standpoint, this is the best shape I've ever been in, I wish I had started working out here before my wedding! The workouts are just what I need, I'm no longer bored on the treadmill or not seeing much progress working with a personal training. I'm being pushed to my limits (safely) and have seen incredible results in my fitness - and my figure.

But, the thing I love about Crossfit Relentless has very little to do with the workouts. I love the sense of community that Merle and Glenn foster within the box. We have the absolute best coaches - and I felt welcomed from my first day. For the first time in my life I look forward to working out - because I get to see my friends, and spend time with people who have become my adult role models - parents, professionals, teachers, etc - all making fitness a priority. It doesn't get much better.

CFR has given me, a 5'2'' petite woman a sense of strength, unparalleled self confidence, and is helping me to set a positive example for my family and my future children.

I have been a member of CrossFit Relentless for two years and have had an excellent experience. I am 45 years old and have been working out in some way or another for the last 30 years. Prior to starting at Relentless I was bored with my workouts and I was no longer making progress. Things are much different now.

The best thing about Relentless are the coaches. They are knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic, and able to work with athletes at any level. Also, there are several coaches with a variety of skills that complement each other nicely.

Another great thing about Relentless are the members. They support each other and motivate people through the tougher workouts. It is always fun to run in to members around town and see what they look like when they are not sweating and breathing heavy.

Another great thing about Relentless is that there is a family of boxes that are connected (033, Ironworks, TriMountain, and South Windsor). Joining one box allows you to also work out at the other boxes. This allows a change of pace and scenery. Sometimes several of the Relentless members will plan to meet at South Windsor for Yoga or Olympic Lifting class. This allows us to meet new people and benefit from other coaches.

Now my experience at Relentless has become a family event. My wife joined a few months ago and is loving it even though we came from very different athletic backgrounds. In addition, my 11 and 13 year old sons are benefitting from the teens' class and are gaining confidence and increased athletic abilities.

In sum, I would highly recommend Relentless to anyone who is looking to get a jump start on their workouts in a friendly and supportive environment. Just know that you have to come ready to experience some pain.

I have been a member of Crossfit Relentless for a year and a half. If you are looking for the best Crossfit experience no one delivers it like Relentless. The Owners and Coaches provide an incredible mix of community (most important), knowledge, programming and equipment that will help you achieve your fitness goals and positively change your life. All you need to do is show up. I promise you will never look at fitness and training the same way.

The size of the gym and the equipment available is impressive. Unfortunately, these things cannot make up for the poor programming and unscrupulous behavior of the owners, which has made even some of the current members ashamed of being affiliated with this gym.

I am a member of the Higganum/Haddam box called Crossfit Ironworks, which is part of the larger Relentless Nation group of xfit boxes. I would say RUN do not walk to try it out. The constantly varied workouts will keep you coming back and will work every muscle in your body resulting in overall improved strength and physique. You will get more out of a one hour long structured workout in this venue than you will get in a months worth of globo-gyms unstructured free for all. All sessions are led by certified trainers from xfit and will modify all workouts to your ability, but will also push you to your ultimate fitness potential. Ironworks does not lack for equipment or facilities. An additional bonus is the the Relentless Nation Crossfit Group has 5 boxes you can use thru-out the greater Hartford area. Go NOW and check it out.....you will not be sorry.
