Absolutely terrible. My son plays soccer here he is only 3 and has asthma and bad allergies and we still did our best to make it to the practices and games which are inconveniently too early (9am). At the end of the season they are all supposed to get trophies and they apparently didn't have enough for the team so my son didn't get one. He already was having a bad day but he is only 3. They also didn't have the jerseys for several weeks and the kids were forced to wear extra large jerseys. Even when they came in, not a single one was 3t. The same people who coordinate the sports also coordinate the after-school program which we had issues with. Even the elementary school knows it's a mess and unstructured. After the experience with soccer, I will be canceling my membership at the gym. I only joined for the convenience but I can't support a business that is reckless with children this way. The only positive experience I had is the kids club. They are wonderful.

โโโโโโUpdate Review Summer 2025โโโโโโโโโโ-
I am writing this review as a deeply concerned and disappointed parent.
I enrolled my daughter in Camp Cassie, run by the YMCA in the Bar Glasgow area, and from the very beginning, I was fully transparent about her needs. My daughter is diagnosed with Stage 2 Autism and has a learning delay. I clearly communicated this during registration and discussed her mild behaviors: she is nonverbal, sometimes prefers to play alone, enjoys walking to self-soothe, and expresses joy by dancing or vocalizing due to her vocal cord condition. I also discussed the importance of a buddy system or one-on-one support, and I was initially reassured that such accommodations would be provided.
However, what followed was incredibly disheartening and discriminatory.
Before the camp even completed a full day, my daughter was dropped from the program. The stated reason? That she wanders off and does not participate in group activities. These behaviors were clearly explained ahead of time, and they are also common traits for children on the autism spectrum. It was clear that no real effort was made to accommodate her, nor was she given a genuine chance to adjust or be supported as promised.
Whatโs worse, when I came to pick her up โ in the rain โ all the children were outside and the staff could not locate my daughter. I was told they didnโt know where she was. I ended up searching for her myself, and found her alone on a basketball court, unsupervised and completely disconnected from the group. It was heartbreaking to see my daughter, who already struggles with social connection, being left behind and uncared for like she didnโt matter.
To make things even more frustrating, I had arranged for her therapist from Easterseals to coordinate scheduled therapy during camp hours โ something that was discussed in advance. The YMCA never followed through or allowed the therapist a chance to reach out and support her, as if my daughterโs care plan was irrelevant.
This experience was not just a case of poor communication โ it was blatant exclusion of a child with disabilities. YMCA and Camp Cassie clearly lack the staff training, compassion, and inclusivity needed to support children with special needs, even those with mild autism. Children like mine deserve support, not to be pushed out or treated like a burden.
As a parent, I want other families of children with special needs to be aware: Camp Cassie is not a safe or supportive environment for neurodivergent or disabled children. The lack of preparation, care, and follow-through was unacceptable โ and deeply painful to witness.
I sincerely hope the YMCA reevaluates its commitment to inclusion, staff training, and the promises it makes to families โ because what happened to my daughter should never happen to any child.

Our ENTIRE experience at the Bear Glasgow YMCA is ALWAYS above and beyond excellent! Today weโve had such a wonderful experience thanks to the exceptional lifeguard team โ especially Auron! Heโs incredibly attentive, patient with children, and respectful with every guest. Iโve noticed how thoughtfully he handles concerns in and around the pool, always choosing the right tone and approach. You can tell he genuinely cares about everyoneโs safety and comfort. Itโs refreshing to see someone so committed to their role. All of the staff here have been fantastic, but Auron truly stands out. Keep up the amazing work!

I usually go to the Middletown ymca but decided to try this one out. As a gay guy like myself I felt very accepted and welcomed by everyone. Got to work out with some cute twinks and jocks which was fun. Hit on a few guys in the locker room and also got their numbers which was a bonus!! Indoor and outdoor pools r very well maintained and clean. I enjoyed this one a lot more than Middletown one. I live a half mile from the Middletown one and this one about 15 minutes. I will drive 15 minutes rather then go to the Middletown one thatโs always over run by rude teens and immature middle school boys running around naked in the locker room. This one feels a hell of a lot safer than Middletown . Definitely coming back again !!!!

As usual The Trunk and Treat was great this year, 2024. I always sign up for the trunk part. Why are the trunks not judged? Some of us really get into it. The kiddos are always so happy and having so much fun. Thanks for the candy. We ran out as is always the case. Wonderful job. Wonderful organization. Wonderful staff.

So far itโs typical . I donโt like facilities that cater to children , usually facilities who work with children have a few if not all employees who treat them children like they are less than because they are children . My son is at summer camp here and so far only thing after 2 days here a lady said she had to hurry up and make my child slime because she wasnโt trying to have my child complain and hear him ask why everyone else got slime but he didnโt. Mind you think about paying for this service as an adult for yourself and you experience this yourself would you be ok with that yourself ? I wouldnโt go back . If you know how many people talk to children a way they wouldnโt talk to me then you know there is probably more to come here in this review ๐. Having your child go to be with adults whom you never met is a very weird thing .. scary to say the least ! Just waiting for more rude comments to happen and then Iโll look elsewhere to send my money with my child . Sadly this is most facilities that cater to children . So they are a typical place .

Caution to Black families: if you visit the outdoor pool, make sure adults and guardians are also present. The lifeguards target Black children for playing in the pool and will kick them out. File a complaint with DE YMCA if this happens to you.

Awful hours - they also look for any reason to close early/not open at all. Equipment is abused by children, and not maintained. Cardio equipment takes up most of the facility. Overpriced of you don't plan on using their "classes" , which also suffer from poor scheduling and staffing.

I have visited YMCAs in the Southwest, the South, and the Midwest, but I've realized this Bear-Glasgow location is one of the best. Having been built in more recent years gives us an advantage. We have an indoor and outdoor pool (not as common as one would hope for), larger workout spaces than many YMCA'sโeven in heavily populated areas and a variety of programs. Now it is disappointing despite having mostly excellent interaction with staff members, that there are a couple of people who were not as welcoming. In general, I think they do an excellent job, and it seems most who work there enjoy helping people live a healthier life and recognize how important it is to the community. I know we are bound to encounter someone who may be negative or have poor interpersonal skills.
Back to the positives: the private swim lessons my two children had were excellent, a trainer who worked with me shortly after I was struggling with a new newly diagnosed autoimmune disease was compassionate while setting excellent goals for me to attain, the exercise equipment gets updated and so far any concerns I had over something working inefficiently has been addressed so this is where my family continues to work out. One of our sons uses his university gym while he's at school, but anytime he's home for a visit, he's ready to go back to the YMCA.
For me, I feel much more comfortable and accepted I don't worry about my physical limitations after illnesses and at times when I've struggled with my weight, I didn't feel uncomfortable coming in to work on getting my weight down. The people who show up at the YMCA are always a variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and capabilities! My attention recently shifted to the water classes to help me deal with mobility issues, autoimmune arthritis and chronic pain. I will be attending these more and appreciate not needing to find another gym. I just have to shift areas that I focus on in the gym now.
To me, this gym WOULD be a 5 star if the prices were more reasonable for a family and if they extended their outdoor pool times and the whole gym's closing times. I can remember when the outdoor pools were available for a longer time frame after their summer camp will use it in the morning, and I remember not long ago when they used to close at 10:00 p.m. At least adding that hour back or even more would do wonders for health and fitness conscious students, working individuals, or those who just prefer working out at night.

Updated review: It seems as though the sauna has been successfully repaired and no longer experiences fluctuations. I have also overheard other members expressing their satisfaction with the improvements. In the past, when I was a member, the gym's weekend closing hours were set at 4 pm. While extending it to 6 pm is a step in the right direction, personally, I believe that 8 pm would be significantly more convenient. Nevertheless, I still firmly believe that this gym is one of the best in Delaware, and the staff members are truly exceptional.
This gym as the potential to be a 5/5 star. The equipment and gym space is decent. The pool, exercise classes, and kid activities are cool, I just never have used them personally. What makes this a 3/5 rather than a 5/5 is one, the cost. $85 for a single adult. For reference, edge fitness just increased their price to $40 a month. Second, the closing times. On weekdays they close at 9pm. Thatโs not rhe end of the world, but Extending it an extra hour would be nice. Weekend times are 6pm. 8pm would be a lot better. They also close the pool/sauna and basketball courts 15 mins early. Also not the end of the world just a bit annoying. Lastly, the sauna temp is never consistent. Some days youโll get 160 degrees (too low) and rarely will you get the optimal temp of 175. If they changed those three things, this gym would be worth the $85 a month.

I had my child write to the pool. It started from 1. Since no one informs us, I think we pay directly as level2-3 and continue. When I went to talk for a higher level, they said we don't have a place and told me to wait for 2 months. I had my child registered elsewhere and bought it from here. I sent an e-mail about this issue but no one replied. Your child, who has lessons, can't go to the upper class with priority, it's a very silly system.

Every one is very polite but you WILL be ripped off. Good luck trying to cancel your membership. You have to fill out a huge form. Any chance that big annoying form is available on their website? HA! Don't be ridiculous. You need to contact someone so that then they can email it to you days later when it is at the bittom of your priority list...is that form in an editable format? Of course not! You have to print it out fill out an entire page of information THEY ALREADY HAVE then scan it and send it back to them.
This is not an accident, this is INTENTIONALLY designed to exhaust you so you stop mid point and get charged more money because you are living a life and get distracted from the 1000 hoops they make you jump through.
Absolutely infuriating, stay away unless you never intend to leave

My experience has been less than desirable. I have had two encounters with the front desk. The first one was back in the summer of 2021. The picture that was on file at the time was taken 10 plus years ago. The person at the front desk called my name after I checked in . I said yes, the person just looked at me and I walked in. But I knew she was questioning ny identify. I don't mind questions but tone and manner are essential to positive interactions. Most recently I got a new creditt card and didn't update my card with the front desk. Subsequently. my membership. was cancelled due to non payment. Which I wasn't aware of until I tried to check in the other day. A man behind the desk ,said , "Sheri, your not a member here". Then directed me to someone else to look into the issue . He picked up on the problem immediately, I needed to update my credit card. Why someone else didn't pick up on that is my question. That's not the real problem , the tone and manner of the man behind the desk was poor. I work for a communications company and that type of iinteraction with a. patron would result in immediate customer contact training.

Summer camp prices are RIDICULOUS. $330/week for a child to go to summer camp at a community facility?! Financial aid is only available to people who make a certain amount of money. Oh yeah, and it's $245/month if you pay almost $100/month to be a member. Very disappointing.

IT'S A SHAME that YMCA of DE doesn't participate in the AARP/United Healthcare "Renew Active" program. This program helps seniors of Delaware to stay active.
I'm the YMCA member for many years.
Last year AARP paid 50% of the membership fees.
This year AARP will pay 100% of the fee, but YMCA stoped accepting the program.
PLEASE RECONSIDER YOU DECISION and allow seniors to participate.
In response to your reply.
Please be informed, that AARP discontinued 50% reimbursement program and updated it to 100% reimbursement.
Unfortunately YMCA will not accept the new program leaving seniors without any financial help.
PLEASE start accepting the nee program from AARP.

Unfortunately Iโm gonna have to rate bear y a 1. I was charged for 2 months when I didnโt cancel my membership properly. Tried explaining that my Autistic daughter was on life support during that time and had a long hospitalization. They wanted me to produce proof to put me on a payment plan for 2 months of fees. Months I was stuck at numerous hospital. I ended up at Elkton Ymca because they were so much more sympathetic. This y is about the bottom line. They donโt care about people. The other day they denied my access to their facility even though my current membership is National ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ. Itโs a nice facility but they should take the Christian out the name!!

I recently left a review discussing my frustration with the new automation system at the Bear Glasgow YMCA but a Bear Glasgow YMCA representative left a voicemail that explained the situation to me as well as left me with a phone number that I could call. So I edited my review to reflect the satisfaction that I had with the clarification. It is refreshing to see an organization that is as committed to customer service like the Bear Glasgow YMCA. Thank you for the help, and I am loving the new training center!!!

We have been coming here for about 3 months now and our overall experience has been great, the only reason they donโt get 5 stars is for poor communication on certain things. Besides the communication problems this location services a LOT of youth activity in the gym and the pool. These a new facility been built for your extreme works itโs called the TXR Room I think!

Love this location and whats even better is the kids club. The hours for the kids club is convenient and they take real good care of the kids. They also offer a a paid service called parents night which is wonderful as well.
