The Dover YMCA gym has several things that could be improved. First, the customer service. They didn’t manage my bank account change correctly, and I had to pay a percentage because of their mistake. Second, some of the machines are rusty, and the bars leave stains on your clothes. Lastly, if you go during certain hours in the morning or afternoon, it gets really crowded, and you have to wait to use the equipment.

Horrible, my daughter went there came back crying saying one of the people there miss abby told her she shouldn’t cry and called me to say that my daughter was being a bully to another girl by not letting her sit with them when in reality there was no room left. The counselors are nice though but fire the miss Abby women

I came here a few days ago to go workout and swim. The workout was nice and relaxing there was a few really cute guys I hit on in the locker room as well. Gotta love a good workout and some hot jocks and twinks. The pool was nice and warm and relaxing as well the chlorine wasn’t too bad. Usually indoor pools have a very strong smell, and it burns my eyes. This one did not. The only bad thing is when I got done and was getting changed in the men’s locker room a big spider πŸ•·οΈ dropped out of its web off the ceiling and took my BRAND NEW bathing suit and hung it in its web to dry. Now it got webbing on it and it’s gross so I let the spider have it. Can you take care of the spider problem and give me my bathing suit back?? Maybe you just have to ask the spider nicely it was scary so I didn’t wanna bother it.

I have disabilities that cause me to faint or have seizures. Because of that, I have a medical alert/response service dog .

The staff throughout the facility are EXTREMELY professional, accomodating, and helpful. Tonight, (02/24/2025) I had a medical episode and felt safe enough to pass out with my service dog tasking. I layed down in the hallway (on a super clean floor), and they respected the patches, checked on me, and left us so my dog could do his job. I recovered significantly easier and still got to go swimming instead of needing to leave.

AND THEN!!!! a lifeguard acted as a secondary handler, without missing a beat. I got to do a full swim workout, which has not been able to happen in 10 years!

I cried literal tears of joy in the locker room because it hit me that I am safe and comfortable enough at the Dover YMCA to have more independence! I'm gonna start tearing up thinking of it again πŸ₯ΉπŸ˜. THANK YOU!

Started membership on 11/27 tried to cancel on 11/29 did not answer any emails or voicemails. Had 3 additional charges on my credit card after I sent the email to cancel. Told me I would have to pay for an additional month because I did not cancel by 11/20 when I did not start the membership until 11/27. Definitely trying to get money that is not owed to them. Do not provide them with your credit card number because you will be charged without your consent.

I signed up my son for swimming lessons. Every lesson we had there was a different instructor which I felt wasn’t ideal but not a huge deal. But then the past two lessons were canceled due to no instructor. They called me the first time to inform me but the second time they didn’t. So I (along with many others in the class) showed up and were waiting for 15 minutes before my mom asked the front desk if there would be an instructor. They eventually told us no and to leave our name with the front desk so someone could contact us regarding a refund or a make up class. That was a week ago and I still have not received a call. I’ve been trying to call to ask if there would be an instructor today before I show up for no reason and no one answers the phone. I really regret signing up for swim lessons here.

Really nice gym, lots of equipment including punching bag and free weights. Nice pools too, with sauna and climbing wall over the water. Little bit pricey at $105 a month for 2 adults. Be nice if they had a gym only pass for cheaper.

My fiance and I decided to try out the guest passes and see if we wanted to commit to a membership. The front desk was immensely helpful and nice, getting us started. We went to the gym first. We couldn't get our bag to fit into the locker, and a very kind gentleman on staff spotted us and offered to have us store it into the office. He made sure to stress that we tell him when we leave, so he doesn't panic if it's gone. It was very much appreciated by both of us. The machines worked a bit different than the ones we used at our other gym, and he very respectfully asked if he could provide some pointers, which was nice. We don't get that experience elsewhere, so it's nice to know you're actually using it right!
We went to the 8 lane pool after, got some swimming in, and then to the sauna by the small pool. We could see kids getting their first swimming lessons, and everyone looked like they were having fun and learning without issue. Overall, I couldn't get over how clean everything was, and how nice everyone was. We are seriously considering the membership. Definitely recommend the place, it was a great time, and you get so much with the membership - even though it might seem expensive.

This is the third time that the membership has not been canceled.
I've had this twice with Dover Ymca, and I've paid a total of $400 for two months, $200 each. I got a refund once, and they said the manager would contact me, but they still haven't contacted me for three years.(You can find my previous review). Three years later, the same situation has happened again. I canceled my membership at Dover Ymca, but they charged me for 2 months' membership fee, and they told me to wait for the manager’s contact, but I didn't hear anything from them.
This is now their way of doing business, and I think it's almost fraudulent. I'm so stressed out. I'm even frustrated with this way of doing business. I had to wast of my time and money because of this horrible branch.
Still, they don’t pick up the phone, ignore my email.

$25 for a guest fee is outrageously expensive!!! I've been a YMCA member in NJ, CO, NY, FL, and DE. This is the most I've ever witnessed them charging to bring a guest! The staffs response was to sign up for a membership when I was in shock while my mom coughed over her social security money. It's hard to stay healthy when you can't afford to. Shame on you Dover YMCA, shame!!shame!!

A class was canceled without an early notice for the families aside from a written note by the desk that the pool was closed. 2 staff at the desk doing nothing could have called or email the families, saving our time and gas! Also, they did not plan on making up the missed class after an emails from the aquatics manager or head.Such a poor communication and management.

Where do I begin.......So I have been a YMCA MEMBER since the mid 80s and never had such a miserable experience with the YMCA. This year has been trying, but the YMCA has not made it easier. Last year, as the pandemic began I realized my bill went up from the YMCA, My wife works for a local hospital and we had a discount that the YMCA gave us for that......when pandemic began, it stopped...no prob. The hours to the YMCA changed, abruptly... No prob. Child watch care center was no more.....ok. No more basketballs were given. Ok. Then the "family pool" closed......alright. so that basically leaves families like mine, with small children, no options to visit the YMCA. I kept my membership in hopes of the YMCA keeping their word, but no. After realizing I hadbeento the YMCA maybe a total of 15 times in the last year, and paid over 1000$ in dues for the facilities to never be what they were, I was disappointed.....so I finally put in for termination of my membership, begrudgingly. I have old ties with the YMCA that kept me wanting to think they cared about the service they provided. But no. My membership is still active, 8 days after my termination request, 8 days after I spoke to Everyone at the branch with my concerns. Nobody cares. Shane, the membership coordinator was not helpful, nor was anyone else. I'm really disappointed. I could go on about the facilities, but I won't. Over it. Just cancel my membership, please. Theis YMCA is a racket and I have been a member in California, Pa, Texas and Delaware βœ”οΈ.....and never again will I use any YMCA, as I have the most sour taste, and the worst is that the staff, was not helpful I any way. They must hate their jobs, and I guess that explains why they can get no staff to work here, as they may have 3 regular employees who work there. R

I have really become a serious member of the exercise classes over the last year.
I have had one on one training on all weight machines ( free)
I can't tell you how much I enjoy the 8 lane pool!!
I have gotten very healthy, lost a lot of weight, and increased my energy levels tremendously.
There is not a single instructor, life gaurd, front desk workers ( Steve who always makes me laugh) that I don't enjoy seeing daily.
All in all it has/ is a wonderful experience where I have made many lovely friends.
I feel like a ' fish out of water'.no pun intended now we have sadly had to close due to the Virus 😭
I would highly recommend the DOVER YMCA.
You will never know how healthy you can be until you try!!!

Please, be careful when you cancel the membership. They will not cancel your membership until you realize you keep pay your membership fee. This club is really horrible due to the membership service. I cancled membership, but they never canceled the service. I paid the fee for two months. And, never got refund. They told the manager will call you, but I never got called.
Also, this happened twice for me. Last winter, I canceled the membership, but they didn't cancel. This is their habbit. "Fortunately", I got refund previous one, but never got refund the second one.
So, I visited here several times. Waste time and money due to horrible staffes. Crazy!! I am so disappointed in this YMCA, dover.

All the instructors are positive and motivational. A great place to workout especially if you have a big family like I do. There is something for all age groups to do. I wish the daycare would be open from 1pm-4pm and the facility would stay open later on the weekends for people who get off work late along with given the youth a positive place to be on the weekend. All staff are friendly and genuine. I went from 420lbs to 350lbs in a year in this facility because of the various programs and encouragement of staff/members that make you feel welcome each time I entered the place!

The Y has a lot of great programs I specifically use them for my son's afterschool care and for summer camp. I am a single, full-time working mom so it's tough handling these things. But their billing practices are very inconsistent and sometimes downright offensive. I won't go into detail but me and other mothers have had same complaints if there were more convenient camps/daycares around I'd def change places. The counselors however are AWESOME so I give them much respect and appreciation. Staff was always nice.

I initially joined the Y so that my kids could take swimming lessons there. I never thought I'd end up joining the Y myself. It's definitely not as fancy as the gyms I'm used to going to but their classes are amazing and instructors are dedicated. I love all the les mills classes; grit, body combat, body flow and body pump. The gym area is basic, plenty of cardio machines, weight machines and free weights area is small and limited.

The gym needs a major upgrade. Locker rooms and bathrooms are old. Kids area is simple, my 6 year olds hate it, it's prob better for toddlers and babies.

If you're in this area and need a gym, I'd definitely recommend this one. It does the job.
