Love this place but the equipment is starting to smell like pee. I hope weβre taking the time to clean them when possible knowing the type of infections you could potentially get.

It doesn't allow me giving less than one otherwise would have given in negative. I enrolled my son for private lessons. one class cancelled by swim teacher and she or anyone else from ymca never communicated us about make up class on phone or by email, then, when asked for the make up class Erik (swim co-ordinator) said make up class was held on 20th. It was never communicated to us verbal or email or any other medium. When i raised this issue with Erik he stopped replying to emails or phones, this is very unprofessional attitude. Now he stopped sending us emails to renew the private swim lessons as well that he used to. Now there is no way to book the private swim lesson except do it on a particular day and at a particular time and you have only 1% chance to get it. My son learning is in between and they left us for no reason (or the reason is asking for a legitimate refund or makeup class). I called them again and explained that we want to book private lessons but the staff did not help. When i tried to explain anything the girl on the phone kept saying "let me finish (I dont know why she was in so much hurry)" and never addressed my issue at all then re-directed my call to someone who did not pick the call. (Let me make sure here that I always maintained decorum and been very polite explaining this on phone) and now when i am calling again and again nobody is picking my call. Horrible service, very unprofessional staff specially swim co-ordinator Erik. I hope I will get the reply from Erik and get all the clarifications. I will update here in few days about what happened next, if not I will be posting the actual email communication with them.

The front desk workers acted SO strange when I tried to sign up. The one woman looked at me like I had 5 heads whenever I asked very simple questions about the membership. None of the workers could agree on pricing and it was so odd. How do you sign people up every day and you have no idea what to charge me? Every person I spoke to said something completely different. I was never shown a contract, conditions, etc. I never signed anything. By the end of the exchange I told them I honestly didnβt even want to sign up anymore, the whole thing was just so unprofessional. I did not trust this company with my money and ESPECIALLY was not about to trust them with my child in their daycare. I changed my mind and canceled that same day before ever even trying the gym. I also called and confirmed with multiple people including a manager that I would be 100% refunded and that my card would NEVER be charged. I donβt even know how many times they confirmed this with me, that it was 100% canceled and Iβd be getting my signup fee back and would NOT be charged a dime. But here we are a few weeks later, the signup charge has still not been refunded, and on top of that they charged me the monthly payment. After repeatedly confirming that this would not happen. Overall just an incredibly strange and unprofessional experience.

Nice big new gym. Plenty of weightlifting equipment in a well-lit and ventilated space on the second floor. The pool has a splash pad for kids. There are free lockers to put your stuff in while you exercise. Great facility overall.

I had a disappointing experience at this location today. I dropped my daughter off at the child care area while I worked out, and when I picked her up, she was quietly crying. Another kid had jumped on her hand, and no staff noticed. She was too scared to speak up and was in pain the whole time. When I asked about supervision, one staff member said, βSometimes this happens,β when the kids-to-supervisor ratio is exceeded. Itβs clear the area is understaffed and lacking proper care and attention βvery concerning for a space meant to keep kids safe. Now my daughter is traumatized that she does not want to go to Y again.
I complained to the manager and asked for the camera footage to assess how bad the fall/jump was.My little oneβs pain did not get any better and certainly needs a doctorβs visit. I feel bad that this one bad experience outweighed all good experiences at this location because it happened with my child.
Update - my little oneβs left arm was fractured from this incident. I already complained and an incident was created by YMCA folks. I do
not know what else is remaining to explain to the management.

I recently ended my membership after about a year and ended up joining another gym.
Pros: The place is cleaned and maintained well, including the ladies locker rooms, the circuit rooms and exercise rooms. The pool is clean and the attendants stay vigil.
Cons: no sense of community despite all the people who frequent and programs.
To play pickle ball thereβs a hierarchy and it feels clickish.
The circuit area only has limited equipment about one machine per body group. Unfortunately, a lot of people just sit on the machine on their phone so you have to wait and wait, regardless of the time of day.
I donβt mind paying a premium for a gym membership but it has to be worth it. To me itβs not!

This facility's management is incompetent.
The pool is 94 degrees and it has been running really warm for weeks. Why is this issue being ignored? Why is this facility wasting money by creating at massive hot tub? What is going on, how difficult is it to turn the heater off for a few hours until to get the temperature in check? Please have the problem fixed so that your members can use the pool and not get cooked trying to swim!

My family and I signed up for a YMCA membership at the Middletown location and Lorraine Capers and Rosa N. were extremely helpful. Lorraine was knowledgeable about the different programs, patient, and able to answer any questions that we had. Rosa N. took us on an engaging tour of the facility and was super kind. Thank you Lorraine and Rosa for all of your support. We are so excited to utilize our YMCA memberships. If you are reading this review and hesitant about signing up for the YMCA, take some time to stop by the Middletown facility and ask for either Rosa N. or Lorraine C. They will take great care of you and you will leave the YMCA smiling. The YMCA- Middletown location is super lucky to have Rosa and Lorraine!

They ignored my written cancellation of membership. Now I can't reach anyone on the phone either. Their hours are inconvenient, classes only during the day and unusable, pools always full, and the locations I need not covered despite nationwide member. Also, staff at most of locations have massive attitudes made me stop going. No thanks, ymca. Do better.

Itβs a nice facility but definitely a lot of unruly rowdy teens there. It seems as though they run the place and the staff donβt do much. The menβs locker room reeks of cologne which donβt smell bad but needs better ventilation. Young boys run around the locker room chasing each other naked stinging each other with towels which is super inappropriate for this setting. Save that stuff for the middle school locker room. I will keep coming here only when they get the rowdiness under control

I recently became a new member of the YMCA in Middletown, DE. At the front desk, I was given a warm, friendly welcome and tour of the facilities by a lovely young lady named Marissa. There is a wide range of equipment, activities and a true feeling of community. I highly recommend the YMCA to anyone wishing to build a healthier lifestyle.

I would like to know why the state of DE does not accept Silver Sneakers? It is publicized all over the internet and on insurance forms that YMCAs accept it- with no mention that some states do not accept it- shame on DE- and an insult to seniors who are trying to stay healthy-

As members weβve found the facility family friendly until recently. Weβve observed the front desk lady being unprofessional, rude and disrespectful.
I personally noticed her being rude and harassing a pleasant young man who works out and also helps whoever asks him for pointers on the court about his exercises or basketball skills like we have.
Heβs obviously an athlete and his kindness is admirable, respectful and shouldnβt be turned into a negative by the front desk lady.
The actions of this middle aged female ruined our experience and weβre considering joining a different facility.
We need more positive influence like this gentleman for our youth. Respectfully, Thank you

Like another couple of person mentioned, a male lifeguard in indoor pool is making the swimming experience very bad. My son is almost 9 years old, takes an advance swimming class with city of Newark and about 5 ft tall. But the guard comes asking him to take a test, in spite I was in the pool. He completes swimming the pool fine. He could not trade water like an expert, but manages to stay afloat without issues. But he fails him saying he is not ready to swim along in the pool. He asks to keep him within 20 ft of the shallow pool area which was very crowded and full of toddlers and non-swimmers. This exact experience we had last summer at outdoor pool by exact same life guard. This makes our moral down and hits his confidence badly.

Went for a basketball game just for fun and there was a small group and then we were forcefully kicked off for a group to play full court and then when we went to tell a member of staff they ignored our complaints and disregarded it completely to tell us that they can play full court just because there is more. Canceled membership after since it isnβt a community welcome place

Male lifeguard who is always there is very condescending, rude, mocking and immature. Plus he is always on his phone. What exactly are the lifeguards job duties? Watching kids in the pool who can't swim? No, no, no. As a parent you must be within arms length even if your child is much taller then the water apparently. They can't be bothered to actually do their jobs, just sit at the table on their phones. Very annoyed with my experience with the pool staff.
$80 a month to be treated like a criminal and good luck tying to swim and get your exercise in. Also, no hot tubs? And just one indoor pool for all of middletown? Not a very wise decision.

The amenities and equipment are nice; however, we had a rude encounter with one of the female front desk associates. My daughter and I ventured outside to take a stroll on the grass back by where the outdoor pools are located. There were no signs posted that would lead me to believe the area was restricted. Long story short, we ended up getting locked outside. Luckily my wife was close by and was able to let us back inside the building. Once back inside, we were then approached by the staff member who was extremely accusatory and rude about why we went outside. I simply stated I took my one year old daughter outside to walk on the grass and I was unaware that the doors would be locked as there were no signs posted. Unfortunately, this encounter was enough for us to cancel our membership. Not sure why this individual couldnβt have approached us in a more understanding fashion.

I recently had a tour of this branch and I could not believe how mismanaged the facility was. There were more than a dozen of teens by the front doors yelling, swearing, pushing each out. Inside wasn't much better. When we were shown the basketball courts, it was more of the same. I asked why there are so many out of control teens and I was told once they hit 12, they just get dropped off with no parent.
At one time the YMCA prided itself on family values and felt safe and inviting. I guess those days are long gone. It is a shame as the facility was really nice.
There is no way I am paying well over $100 a month for a gym membership with so many out of control youth. No doubt the inflated membership costs go to subsidize membership for those ruining the branch for paying members. What a shame.

The facility is nice, modern in clean. Many of the staff are very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. This facility has a lot of potential that is let down by a major problem.
The facility is overrun by young teens that are left unsupervised for hours on end with no parents on-site. There are many fights (especially at the basketball courts). Additionally, in the afternoons and evenings after school is out, there are regularly large groups of extremely foul mouthed teens loitering by the entrance and at times in the hallways. They run around pushing each other while loudly cursing, yelling, and screaming and make a very unsafe atmosphere - especially for children. Members have to walk through this mess to get in and out of the building and it is ridiculous. I have never seen problems as bad as this at any other YMCA.
Senior management continues to turn a blind eye and it is a shame as it is ruining Middletown's longer overdue YMCA. Many staff members also have regular confrontations with these problematic youth and/or are bullied by them and are not given the authority to handle the situations properly (kicking them out). Things get so out of hand, Middletown police are frequently called but nothing is going to change unless the root of the problem is addressed.
Senior YMCA management needs to take action and get this facility under control and value their paying customers over packs of unsupervised teens with severe behavior problems.

Love the classes here! I don't use the machines, but do attend quite a few classes. I hope they one day have a facility where they have two classrooms and are able to run simultaneous classes. That's because I want to see more class offerings all day long, not just morning and late afternoon/early evening. Right now, because of the size of the building, that isn't possible.
The reason I give them 4 stars and not 5, though, is because there are no showers here. So, unless you live within minutes of the Y, you can't go anywhere after working out (i.e., work, meet a client, etc.) because you can't shower there.
