This location years ago used to be very good.
I am a black card member & have been to multiple locations in Maryland & Delaware.
Went here this morning,horrible experience.
Wifi was on but not working,all dark inside,multiple machines broken AND out of order,one person inside working and not upfront when I stopped in.
Surprised that people still came in,I will be avoiding this location & hopefully they figure it out.

This Planet Fitness is such a letdown compared to the Christiana Planet Fitness. Half of the cardio machines and equipment are broken. The A/C also doesn't work. I have a black card membership and one of the perks is 50% off drinks like water and gatorade. In the summer I was able to buy a bottled water for $1. Just recently I tried to get a water at the front counter and the employee wouldn't give me the discount even when I showed him that I have a black card. If the Christiana Planet Fitness was closer to me I would go there all the time. I'm disappointed that the black card perks are not being accepted here and I hope the conditions here can be improved soon.

I wouldn’t recommend making this your gym if you’re getting the classic membership. Every planet fitness within 10 miles of here is better than this one. The staff is friendly however half of the equipment is broken here with no signs of anything being fixed anytime soon. If you have other options go somewhere else but if this is all you have it will work. I rated 2 starts because I’ve seen other locations do so much better than this one. This one’s on management.

Update: Can you give me the club manager's information or how to look that up? At the same time, with all of these reviews complaining about the same thing, why wouldn't the person responsible for responding to the reviews contact the club manager on behalf of all of them?

I want to love it here but like most people have also reviewed, it’s pretty unacceptable how horribly maintained the equipment is. Half of them have the “social distancing” sign on them which actually means they’re broken. Going to probably switch to another one.

This is my first time back in the gym after a couple of year and this place is trash. Most all equipment is broken and can't be used and the massage chairs are all torn up. It really has is that bad. I am going to try the one In Christian, wich i don't wanna go cause it further away for me but I will see the difference and if that its bad also I am canceling my membership. This need to shut that place down and bring in machines. Also the staff there seems mad when you ask them to use the massage chair, like that's what they are there for. All they do is be on the phone all day I hard is you job.

This location has consistently fallen short of my expectations. Below are some of the issues I have encountered:

Unannounced Closures: Frequently, the club is closed without any prior notice or explanation. I suspect this is due to personnel shortages, as there is typically only one person working at a time.

Front Desk Availability: Often, there is no one present at the front desk. There is a sign instructing members to call a specific phone number for assistance, which ironically is the number for the unattended front desk.

Lighting: On my recent visit, six overhead lights were out, and it appears that as more lights go out, they are not being repaired.

TVs: Similarly, six TVs were not working during my last visit, and this issue seems to persist.

Treadmills: Eight treadmills were out of order, which is a recurring problem.

Cable Equipment: Several cables have been broken for months without repair.

Strength Training Equipment: Many of the pads on the strength training equipment are worn out. These could be easily fixed with an Allen wrench in a matter of minutes.

HVAC: Last summer, the air conditioning was broken for an entire month.

Club Management: When I requested a manager's contact card, the front desk staff informed me that they do not have any available.

stopped here instead of my usual planet fitness in wilmington. went to do a leg day, and every single leg machine is out of order/broken. i’m not kidding. pretty much every single one. sad. if u want a leg day, don’t come here. didn’t even check out the upper body machines but i’d imagine it’s similar. what a shame

I like the staff, they are friendly and helpful. However, as many others have pointed out, this gym NEEDS to fix its machines. There are at least 5 machines that are out of order, some have stayed that way for nearly a year now. At the very least use something other than those old COVID "Social fitnessing" signs. They use these to indicate machines are out of order, but I cannot tell you how often I see people try to use the machines still because they do not know this. They just see the COVID social distancing sign and ignore it. I have even seen a machine become MORE broken because of this. This cannot be safe for anyone.

This was always my favorite location out of all Delaware locations but management of this location has extremely went down hill.The list of equipment that is broken and not being fixed is growing.The water fountain that you put your water bottle under has been broken for going on a year.The soap in the bathroom always runs out and the bathrooms are filthy.The employees frequently close this location early besides the fact of never really being at the front desk.At this point they need to 100 percent get rid of whoever management is and the regional manager because this has been going on for months and its extremely unacceptable and unprofessional to frequently paying customers and gym goers

Been to many planet fitnesses, and this is by far the worst. Heck, the worst gym I ever been to. I had a black card from another PF location and these guys took a whole 10 minutes to check me in (also there was no one in the front when I walked in, had to wait there too). Half the equipment is broken and the other half is older than me. Everything is broken in the black card spa except one massage chair that was broken itself. Went to this Planet while on a trip so thankfully it was my only visit. Seemed to be no AC. Very hot and stuffy and smelly inside. No one working at the front, or anywhere that I could see for that matter. Equipment was dirty/dusty. Several machines were broken. And on the ones that were usable, the padding was terribly ripped. Glad this isn’t my home gym.

There never seems to be anyone at the front desk when I enter, that's bad for business if someone wants to sign up for membership or purchase some water or protein shakes. Have a person stationed at the front to greet members. The drinks have a pad lock unlike other locations, so it makes me think that not having a person at the front is normal.

The staff are very friendly and the machines are clean. I do see people not cleaning machines when they’re finished. I wish that was better enforced. I clean machines before and after I use them to be safe. There are a lot of not working machines, but it’s not crowded when I’m there, so it’s not an issue.
This is the first gym I’ve ever joined, and I’m glad I did. It’s been a great experience so far, - I do feel it’s a ‘judgement free zone.’

The gym itself is decent. It has most of the things that you'd want in a gym. However, I've had multiple bad experiences with the staff. Many times, they've responded in a rude manner. That behavior has completely turned off my desire to want to go to the gym. It has gotten to the point where other members in my membership have also received rude comments towards them. I am considering bring this up to Planet Fitness Corporate or even Consumer Report. Do better Planet Fitness staff otherwise it will cause other members of Planet Fitness Newark to revoke their membership as well.

You can get the job done here but I must say there’s no barbells or benches for benching or power rack/squat racks Just smith machines and dumbbell's plenty of cardio stuff too.

And like I said you CAN get a good workout in but just not much free weights. This was a letdown for me but for $22.99 mo. and free guest pass you can’t beat it. At 66 yrs old I leave my ego at the door and make the best with good results

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The manager just screamed at me, angrily on the phone about cancelling my membership. I was diagnosed with an eye condition, back in June and had my license revoked because of my legal blindness. I am no longer able to drive to this location, and followed planet fitnesses rules of cancelling in person. I filled out a form and left it there with the associate behind the desk in June. I was charged in July and August and was able to get another Uber (money I should’ve never had to spent) back there in August to try and cancel again, the manager wasn’t there, filled out the form and the associate reassured me it would be cancelled. It didn’t, and it’s now October. 5 months X $25 black card membership = $125 all because of managements incompetence. The gym is downright awful, equipment is always tagged out and broken, the bathrooms are VILE (a friend of mine is meeting with a lawyer over a foot infection he got from this gym, he went back and got swabs of the floors for lab tests and it came back positive for the infections it caused him, EWWWWW) and never cleaned, the community is judgmental locals who grunt and smell horrible all while staring at you during your entire workout. Back to the way I was just spoken to on the phone, I have never been treated with so much disrespect in my life. She tried calling out additional times I’ve gone to OTHER planet fitnesses under my friends guest pass with their black card membership’s, and even if I did go to other gyms on my own, shouldn’t I have not been able to do that if they had done their job In June when I first cancelled? She literally just screamed at me, denied a refund, and completely insulted me. 6 of my other friends are now cancelling their own memberships with this gym after the way I was treated. Completely disrespectful, unintelligent, unprofessional and unattending staff. They will all have their friends show up during their shifts to hangout and chat instead of helping the people who need assistance. Crunch fitness is minutes from this location and has CLEAN and WORKING equipment, not as many people, and polite professional associates and more importantly management. Check out crunch fitness!! Way better and cheaper, only $10!!!

I joined PF here on Marrows Road in Newark. I was going daily and in 5 days I had COVID!
I watch members come in and jump on equipment WITHOUT wiping it down.

I now do exactly what everyone at PF should do:

Wipe down equipment before you use it

Wipe down equipment after using it

Watch closely to see what other members are doing and DONT follow their mistakes
Finally, I go in the restroom and wash my hands thoroughly and air dry them
I wipe down my car keys and phone too

Same issues cancelling my membership. I cancelled in person in early July and they had me sign a sheet of paper because 'the system was down'. I should have followed up because they've been charging me ever since. 3 months later I've cancelled again - this time I signed an electronic pad and got a confirmation email.
Will it be over now? Buyer beware! I doubt I'll ever get the 3 months of dues back.

All summer I dreaded coming in here because it's too hot, poorly ventilated and makes working out unbearable. They had fans for two days I was here to supplement the poor ventilation and which helped a little, but I haven't seen the fan in two weeks and it's miserably hot! And I agree with another review about the equipments...they are pretty old. Some treadmills were replaced with new but other equipments could use an upgrade for sure.

My home gym is Newark De, Marrows RD. Beyond done with this place, if it wasn't just charged the yearly memebership fee I would cancel. The air conditioning never seems to work. Now it has been completley down for a week. No AC what so ever. It is over 90 degrees in the building. Pretty sad when it is cooler outside then it is inside. When asked when they plan on having this fixed I was told they didn't know and i was welcome to go another gym. This is beyond unacceptable.

I have never had a more difficult time cancelling a membership somewhere than at this Planet Fitness. I know PF has a reputation for making it difficult, but this is next level horrible. I have shown up in-person twice to cancel, and had 3 phone calls. Still, after 2 months, no cancellation. Conveniently, every single time the manager is unavailable, and the employees who take down your information to "give" to the manager never want the complete information. Every single time I offer to give my agreement number they tell me they don't need it. Convenient. Is this just malicious business practice or complete incompetence? Either way, avoid at all costs.

I’ve gone to this gym for many years now. Sometimes new equipment comes in and this location was revamped once. However, you can tell it’s very neglected here at this location. I’m certain no other locations are in this condition. We just got out of a three day heat wave- it feels as if the AC is no longer working in here. That’s dangerous for anyone to be exerting energy in and may cause bigger issues than fixing the issue at hand. The equipment is always broken and it doesn’t appear anyone is willing to fix them- just throw a sign on it and leave it as it is. During rainy days, buckets are everywhere catching water, so there’s even structure issues. There is a brand new gym (with I'm sure working AC) within walking distance, with the same prices. This location will lose a lot of people. I don’t mean to be that person, however the temperature of this location is dangerous for people working out and also the people that work here.

For the third straight week the air temperature has been very stuffy at this location. I’ve brought it to the attention of several employees but the lack of change suggests management is reluctant to take any corrective action or has scared the employees out of reporting any problems. Please see the attached photo if anyone is under any impression that this issue is open for debate. It may even qualify as an OSHA infraction…not to mention, the ceiling fans are rotating at half speed which does not lend itself to any meaningful ventilation. If the idea behind this is to cut costs why run the fans at all?

I’ve been patronizing PF for 15 years. This kind of thing where either the climate or the condition of the equipment, or both, is substandard is, at this point, beyond demoralizing.

I love the atmosphere of this location. The lights are low and music is loud. It does get a little crowded sometimes but not too bad. The only real issue is that there are currently several pieces of equipment that have been broken for quite a while. This is a bummer. Whoever owns this location doesn’t do a good job maintaining it. Machines break and stay broken for months at a time. It gets progressively worse. I guess you could make it work if saving money is your only priority.
I’ve shared my concerns with corporate and never heard back.

Edit: I see that the owner responded with a canned corporate response. I've already signed up for a new gym. I shouldn't have to send you details (again) when a simple walk through the facility should show that you clearly don't take broken equipment seriously. At least 5 pieces of equipment are out of order, 3 TVs are out, armrests on equipment held together with duct tape, ceiling leaks when it rains, and the water fountain has been out of order for 3 weeks...
I asked about the water fountain at the desk and was told that the owner knows and doesn't care - and gave me me a bottle of water.
If the owner reads these reviews, please check on this place and take care of it. It's really sad right now.

Update - close to ten pieces of equipment down now. 5 TVs out. At least the water fountain is back on. There's another gym opening up down the street, and I'm sure you will lose a lot of clients if you don't fix the equipment soon.

Some lady who worked at the desk last i went stopped us after we had already gotten scanned in and started working out. She stated my age was incorrect in the system, which it wasnt, i tell her my age because I'm always assumed to be younger than i am and this lady just stared at me for a good minute before just walkin away. When we finally got ready to leave she said sorry and that i just didnt look old enough to be 27 and then she stopped talking and staed at me again, so uncomfortable. Workers turned the heat on on a rainy day. This place is about 95 degrees right now with 85% humidity inside. The floors and machines all have condensation on them and the whole place smells like urine. Possibly the grossest planet fitness I have ever been in.

So I went to another planet fitness in the area today trying to avoid the conditions of this first location only to find the same thing (notice the sauna like condensation on all the windows in the images below). In response to the managers comments I went and spoke to a worker in that location and asked why it was 95 degrees with 90% humidity. The worker replied “because corporate would rather sacrifice a child than let anyone touch the thermostat”. Apparently, the employees are not allowed to do anything about this issue, and planet fitnesses in Delaware and Maryland have a policy that the workers are unable to turn the AC on regardless of the conditions of the club. The worker went on to tell me that they had several medical alerts over the last month as patrons were overcome by the heat and needed transport to the hospital. Which suggests that planet fitness's decision to let this go on is actually harming people’s health. So thanks for the reply manager person, but it would appear to all be hollow words. You need to make it policy that if the humidity at your clubs goes up, no matter the season, the workers will engage the AC to cool the club down. Not doing so is not only gross, but it’s negligent and could potentially kill someone just trying to stay healthy. I am puzzled why I should even have to write this. For what I pay for a black card every month the least you could do is protect me from getting heat stroke and dying in your facilities.

Multiple machines down, to the point they stopped putting signs on them, hydro massage always down. One treadmill litterally has all the wiring out for over a month. But the worst issue is ,the gym will be packed, you will wait over an hour to get on a machine especially in the 1 hour section, because people will play on there phones for 30 minutes, do a rep and go back to there phones. Customers shouldn't have to tell people to use it or loose it.

I've been to almost 2 dozen Planet Fitness facilities from Tulsa Ok to Newark DE. Newark is by far the worst gym I've seen so far. Today was a rough day for my family and I. While driving home from PA I decided to stop by to clear my head. I told the guy up front my bill is a few days pass due which I’ll take care of at my local gym. He told me not to go to any other PF including this one until I pay. Ok however he did allow me in. What a great way to release stress. After an hour, I was ready to sit in the massage chair and hit the road home. Home was about two hours away. He (the manager on duty 2/22/23 around 2pm) said “you can’t use the chair until you pay your bill”. I asked his name. He said his name is BLACK CARD EMPLOYEE. SMH I’ve never been treated in this matter at any other PF up and down the east coast. His staff also wouldn’t tell me there names. Btw I paid my $22.99 when I got home.

I started going to this gym I am over weight. That's why I signed up to be healthy. The no judgement gym it's not really true. I keep going because I need it but I've already been called fat 3 times people coming around just to look how big I am.

I like this Planet Fitness location. It's always clean. The staff is very nice and friendly. Plus they seem to update their equipment regularly. Nothing but positive experience at the Elkton location.

Filthy locker rooms need to be addressed asap, as well as some broken equipment. I get that at a 10-20 dollar price point I shouldn't expect much, but this place was gross. I'm sure I could find more but I was mostly focused on getting out of there without catching MRSA.

Excellent gym. Equipment is always fixed promptly. Plenty of equipment, too. Only thing is a lot of people tend to sit on equipment and play on their phones for a long time rather than letting someone use that piece of equipment.

I want to know how long will the owner allow Dee and Charles to treat customers inhuman despite the public complaints against them. Don’t let a lawsuit be your wake up call! I have already sent my email to social Planet Fitness with the details of my horrific experience with Dee and Charles. Please provide the direct email to the owner. I go to Planet Fitness specifically for the tanning beds. They are always clean and I feel confortable knowing that they take great pride in keeping the area pristine.

The staff is always helpful and courteous and their prices for all that they offer is very reasonable.

Awful experience here.

I’ve been a long term member at this facility for a couple years, and when I came in today - I was told I was required to wear a mask.

I was told to wear a mask, but didn’t have one - so they offered me one for $1 dollar.

This is ridiculous. I pay $22/mo for a black card, and I cannot receive a mask upon the governors request?

This is all for money, and most importantly - an attack on individual freedoms.

I will no longer support this organization again and will not recommend anyone to this location.

The employees does not make the decision on ether or not I wear a mask. That’s mine.

I just moved to Newark my normal gym was the farrand drive location and the difference between the two locations are night and day. The Newark location is poorly lit not as clean and just overall not what I was expecting everything there is just more or less placed (equipment wise) don’t think I’ll be returning gonna have to hit the Christiana location

This is the Worst Planet Fitness. The employees steal customers' personal belongings. I caught a female employee going through my locker and snooping in my personal belongings. They curse all the time. Also, an employee told me there were bed bugs in the shower very recently. It is filthy and VERY BADLY RUN. DO NOT GO HERE.

Trying to cancel a membership here is the most painful prosses you could go through, really shows off a company stuck in the past. When I called about canceling the person who answered the phone practically yelled at me and used a very aggravate tone of voice. Would not recommend joining this location.

After getting a new health insurance plan from UnitedHealthcare I was told that a gym membership to Planet Fitness was included but when I visited Planet Fitness the employees had no knowledge of insurance plans and seen I had a disability still told me to go to another Planet Fitness in Newark to see if they took it? And me being brand new to this can happen to recover from a very serious surgeries I thought they would be more helpful
