Eliza is an excellent instructor, starting with us as beginners. She is providing the right mix of new steps and information so we can progress week by week, adding in technique as our step sequences mature. She gives plenty of encouragement and is always willing to answer questions, no matter how basic. I’m not a dancer — at all. We decided to do lessons for the first dance at our wedding and I couldn’t be happier or more relieved. My wife and I had a solid experience at CCB taking dance lessons for our first dance at our wedding in Sept. 2024.

We worked with Dima as our instructor, over a series of 3-4 lessons, and he was terrific.

My wife and I had fairly limited dance skills going into the lessons, but a positive attitude and sense of humor, so we were thrilled to get Dima's excellent instruction! Not only did Dima help us choreograph our entire first dance song, but he also taught us some various skill moves such as the dip and certain spins to incorporate in our first dance as well.

Instructors: Phenomenal! The breadth and depth of Dima and Alina’s knowledge is truly remarkable. American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard, International Latin, and even European folk dances. They live and breathe ballroom in only the way two people who have dedicated their lives to their craft can.

Community: the studio has a diverse rotation of group classes that change monthly, regular socials, bi-yearly showcases and recognition events, as well as dancesport spectating. If you’re looking for a community and learn ballroom you can find it here.

This studio is wonderful! Dima and Alina are the main teachers at the studio, and they are both lovely to work with. I began private lessons at the studio thinking that I would work on technique for a few months, but that was 9 months ago! I’ve learned so much and have had so much fun that I’m a regular student now. Dima and Alina are great at teaching students in ways that work for each student. I’ve seen students of all experience levels enjoying lessons, whether they are couples learning a first dance for a wedding, kids learning ballroom steps (super-cute!), or very experienced dancers getting high-level instruction. My husband and I came to Chevy Chase Ballroom in March 2021 to do a choreographed first dance for our wedding. Our instructor, Alina, put together a beautiful first dance that looked amazing in our pictures. We keep going because it’s a fun, active hobby that we can do together and we learn something nee. For anyone who thinks they can’t dance, it’s not true (ask my husband), you just need talented teachers like Alina and Dima to show you what to do. We never thought we would pick so many dances (Salsa, Bachata, Swing, Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Merengue, Viennese Waltz, and Cha Cha) in a year and a half. The ballroom and floor are very nice. The social parties have good food but typically not many very good dancers. Lessons are expensive. You can get the same lessons at other dance studios in the DC area for 25% or more less with just as good teachers. You can get group lessons through your county department of recreation for more than 50% less. If you like to attend fancy, expensive events CCB has them. I no longer attend CCB socials as I used to because the owner Irina does not understand American culture. She insulted me several times thinking I was trying to steal students from CCB, which I was not. She does not understand that a man asking a woman for her phone number so that he can invite her out to dance does not mean he is trying to take her away from CCB. I assume that Irina's paranoid behavior is due to her growing up in Ukraine under Russian domination, where people spied on their neighbors. That is not life in the U.S. By the way, there are several other ballroom dance studios in the DC area I would recommend including Hollywood Ballroom in Silver Spring, MD, Avant Garde in Rockville, MD, In Step School of Dance in Fairfax, VA, and Elegant Dance Studio in Fairfax, VA. I have been ballroom dancing in the Washington, DC area since 1985. I have NEVER been insulted at ANY dance studio by ANYONE except for at Chevy Chase Ballroom.

My husband and I had a such wonderful experience taking wedding dance lessons this past summer at Chevy Chase Ballroom with Dmytro Churchun for our September wedding. In fact, it was our favorite part of wedding planning and one of the best parts of our wedding day. We miss CC ballroom already! With ZERO prior social dance experience together, we were able to perform a hybrid foxtrot and swing dance 2:30 min routine that was a fantastic surprise for our family and friends. Dmytro was super encouraging and the most patient with our complete lack of rhythm and synchronization. He helped create a dance that was fun and very “us.” In the three months leading up to our wedding, we ended up taking 7-9 lessons though I’m sure most couples don’t need that many, we loved having the lessons to break up the tedium of other wedding planning tasks. We felt it was excellent value and well worth the investment. Dmytro and Irina are top notch at what they do and you cannot go wrong with Chevy Chase Ballroom no matter your skill level or time constraints!

My husband and I are social dancers and wanted to learn a few more moves. We signed up for ten classes and have gotten hooked. We have had three different instructors over time and each one has brought something special to the experience. We go during the day during the week so we can't speak to what it is like in the evenings or on weekends, but our experience has been excellent and we've learned a ton.
