Dropped in after taking 3 months off CrossFit. Coming back was nervous but coach Tyler was very encouraging and accommodating. The atmosphere facilities and equipment are perfect and quickly signed up for a membership. Whether your looking to drop in or find a new home check out CrossFit hierarchy

Cannot recommend this place enough! I'm from out of town and came here while I was in DC for work. I did a drop-in on a Saturday with Coach Justin. He did a great job making me feel welcomed by introducing me to the class and took time to gauge my comfortability with the WOD on the board while we did warmups. I told him that I have been practicing my work with barbells and that I was not at 100% with my snatches yet. With the coaching that he gave me (and the whole class) through the workout, I left feeling pain free and more confident in my snatch form than I have ever felt. Everyone was so nice and encouraging, I went back for one more drop-in before I left town. Shoutout Coach El for making 6am so fun with your awesome pop punk playlist! I will definitely be back!!

So glad I dropped in. Excellent coach, and wonderfully kind members made me feel right at home. Enjoyed the “choose your own adventure” format, and made for a unique experience. At the end of it all, got a great workout in, met some nice people, and left feeling great. Thank you Clay and Hierarchy friends!

Great location and has friendly people.

My spouse and I are from out of town and dropped in for the day. We were greeted when we walked in by Justin, who showed us around and where the equipment was. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly; no one came across as snobby or arrogant (I have experienced that at other CrossFit when dropped in), which was a nice feeling.
Over time we learned that workouts and technique approaches could differ depending on location. Justin took a moment to make sure we could follow the workout and if we had any questions, which I greatly appreciate because I need clarification at times.
The gym has a large open floor with large windows and lots of natural light. It was spotless and included equipment and restrooms.
The gym’s location felt safe. We walked there from our hotel in the DuPont Circle area and back. No issues at all.
We will be coming back to this location when traveling here.

The best crossfit gym in the DMV with best programming and best coaches! I've been a member for 9 months and have totally become absorbed in the fun and supportive team culture. I had little to no crossfit experience prior to joining and the coaches were super helpful in ensuring I learned the movements safely and with the necessary modifications. Equipment is well-maintained and the overall programming is always very challenging. It's also connected to a grocery store and a few blocks from coffee shops and the Woodley Park metro station. Highly recommend for new members and drop-ins. (6am is the best class... no bias here! :))

The best workout in the city. Amazing community. 10/10 would recommend. 3 main things: 1. The community - unparalleled. People who workout here actually become friends. Members are incredibly welcoming, supportive, interactive. Sure it takes a few classes to get to know people, but this is probably the most community oriented gym I’ve ever been to - and I’ve been to lots. 2. The Workout - beyond what I thought possible. I worked out here for about 4 years during which I learned things I never imagined I could do like nearly 10 pull ups after never even getting close to ONE pull up before. Here’s the thing: bc of pandemic & having a baby/ childcare I had to take over 2.5 years off from training and I am SHOCKED how much of the strength and athleticism I gained from hierarchy has sustained. Hierarchy literally transformed the base fitness and strength of my body. The best gift any gym can give!! 3. The coaches. The owner, Tyler, is a devoted, fun, brilliant coach and definitely the cornerstone of hierarchy’s exceptional community. His team of coaches is equally amazing, each with their special approach to supporting members. It’s hard to pick a favorite. If you are considering it, just go. It’s worth it.

A great gym with good, attentive coaching. Love the 7:30 pm workouts. A fun community that is not too competitive. Great workout programming that develops strength and cardio without pushing me over the edge, I always feel good the next day. Thanks!

Having moved around quite a bit in my life, I’ve had the opportunity to be a member of five or so CrossFit Gyms; Hierarchy is by far the best. The members and coaches are super friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable. They are also really reasonable when life happens and you need to put a hold on your account, scale a workout, or cancel a class. I also never felt pressured to go beyond my comfort limits in the two years I was a member, though I could always expect great motivation and support from the coaches and members to finish out each workout strong. I have unfortunately just moved to a different part of DC and have had to switch gyms but, I’m super glad to have had access to this great gym and community.

Me and my wife dropped in from Miami and were welcomed in by coach/owner Tyler, he was very friendly and once class started he was very helpful, the workout was very fun and engaging. We partnered up with members from the gym and they were very friendly. I had a lot of fun joining in the Wod and I know my wife did also, if you live in the DC area you should def check this gym out.

Very spacious, full of cross fit equipment, coaches is A - okay. One of the student coach I like left, but bonus one other coach know signs. This environment are for someone who are a pro with cross fit and if you are a newbie and have zero clue of cross fit, good luck cause this class is fast paced.

Hierarchy was recommended from a friend in Fort Lauderdale. So we had heard a bit about their coaching and programming and were probably biased before dropping in.
All that being said, this gym was amazing. They out kicked the coverage with the quality of gym. Awesome all the way around. I’d recommend dropping in and making this your box.

Joined recently, and this truly deserves 5 stars. There is tons of floor space, and the coaches are more knowledgeable than any I've been around. Parking isn't bad - there is a free lot, or a street nearby that doesn't have meters. Programming is tough but the coaches have good scales in mind. It really is a great gym.

Great experience while dropping into town at this gym! The owner was present (not always the case) and coached a great class. The people were very welcoming and the facility was exactly what you need for a fun crossfit experience. From one owner to another..... great job !

I have been to one class before about a year ago with a friend and I decided to go back. I think that was the first bad decision of the day. The gym did not impress me; the instructor was ok. The employees on the other hand were not the nicest. The class was a little underwhelming, I could have got a better work out with an insanity dvd.

Been a member here for a few years, and the community, coaching and programming is the best. Stop in for a day or join forever, either way you'll be glad you did. Love my hierarchy family! Best DC-proper gym, and I've dropped in to most of them.

By far one of the worst establishment I have ever encountered. Honestly waste of time frustrating and clearly the staff does not give a damn about you if you are I'm assuming not eye appealing to there class.
Since when did it get this difficult to sign up into gym.
I would give it negative star but that's not possible. Also I'm assuming they might remove this comment but hey that's shady business for ya.
Thank You Crossfit IvY City for wasting my time.

Great instructors and community! There's everything from complete beginners (me) to seasoned athletes. The workouts are killer, and it always feels like you're working out with friends. The facility is HUGE and there's plenty of parking. I looked at other CF gyms in the area, and none compared to what CF Ivy City had to offer. If you're looking to work hard, have some fun, and make new friends, this is a great place to do it!

I was visiting in DC from the UK earlier this week and wanted to get a work out so I dropped in - the team were very friendly and had a great session programmes in. Coaching was well informed, everyone made me feel welcome and to top it all off, I was able to do a WOD for free. Absolutely fantastic, thanks for having me!
