When I first walked into CrossFit MPH almost three years ago, I was starting my fitness journey completely from scratch. I was nervous and unsure, but joining this gym has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. For anyone looking for a community-focused gym that delivers real, sustainable results, look no further.
CrossFit MPH truly excels in its community spirit. From the very first day, I felt welcomed and encouraged. It doesn't matter your fitness level—you have athletes next to you who are lifting heavy, yet they're the first ones to cheer you on when you finish your last rep. The no-judgment culture is palpable, and the motivation I get from my fellow members is what keeps me consistent.
Exceptional, Knowledgeable Coaching
The coaches at CrossFit MPH are, simply put, excellent. They don't just stand there and count reps; they are genuinely invested in your progress and safety. They provide detailed, individualized feedback on technique, ensuring I learned the movements correctly from day one. As someone new to fitness, their focus on proper mechanics was crucial. I've seen massive improvements in my strength and mobility thanks to their attentive, expert instruction.
What I love most about the programming here is the emphasis on functional fitness. This isn't just about looking good; it's about being strong and capable in everyday life. The workouts translate directly into real-world benefits: carrying groceries is easier, I have more energy, and I feel significantly healthier overall. The variety in the daily workouts keeps things challenging and prevents me from ever getting bored.

Dropped in to MPH before starting graduate school and was immediately impressed by the expert coaching and diverse programming. I Joined as soon as a relocated and spent my time in DC 4-5 times a week here and felt I had some of the best coaching I’ve ever had in CrossFit. Whether dropping in or looking for a new gym-home, HIGHLY recommend!

Great CrossFit gym in the city! Tried out a few gyms in the city before found this gem! They send out an email to the members outlining the whole week of programming. The coaches know each athlete well and their skill level! The owner Mel and the other coaches are very welcoming and helpful!

Joining this CrossFit gym has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health. The level of personal care from the coaches—making sure I’m training safely and effectively—has made a huge difference in my journey. They’ve helped me get back to my old, healthy self, and I’ve lost 45 pounds since starting. The coaching is top-notch, and the community here is incredibly supportive. Incredibly Supportive and knowledgeable coaches - Great atmosphere
Before finding MPH, I had never done CrossFit. A friend kept encouraging me to go with him, so I did during their Bring a Friend week to try it out for free. I am so glad I did.
Many benefits to this gym
1) Awesome Coaches - every coach I have worked with has been extremely supportive and helpful. Being new to some of the specific moves and also to attempting heavier lifts, the coaches give real-time feedback on form, insight on pushing myself without overdoing it, and encouragement and communication outside the classes well.
2) Multiple Options for classes - The in-person classes are the best. But if you cannot make it, they email out an adapted home workout and also provide an afternoon virtual class to complete the home workout with a coach. This has been great for when I travel.
3) Complete workouts from start to finish - Every class starts with a guided warm-up and mobility routine to make sure you are ready for the day's movements and activities. This is something I had not been doing on my own, this made a big difference in my ability to push myself without causing injury. After the workout, there are cool-down stretches and movements to again help minimize injury and soreness.

Going to MPH fixed my lower back pain in less than six months. I'm not the type who ever thought I'd do crossfit. I always wondered what would possess anyone to workout so hard if they weren't training for the zombie apocalypse.
I work a desk job, all of my hobbies: reading, writing, gaming and painting miniatures (no judging! ha) also mean I don't have to do much moving around, but I'm glad I decided to try Crossfit MPH out. Not only is the environment incredibly welcoming, but they have awesome coaches and fun workouts.
Also...again, no more back pain! I've struggled for years with a stiff and painful lower back. Not anymore, though.
All of the movements they teach require proper joint and muscle alignments, and requires the muscles fire in the correct way. Imagine my surprise when regular attendance at this gym solved what many, MANY, physical therapists couldn't. It's kind of a win-win. I'm stronger, move better and also don't have to deal with constant pain.
This place is worth a a look if you're curious! And another great thing, I see all kind of bodies inside this gym. It's all about getting functionally strong, and I love that in the months I've attended, I've never once heard anyone say a thing about weightloss. That, along with being pain free, is pretty great.

I've been part of many CrossFit gyms over the past 10 years, and CrossFit MPH is the best experience I have ever had. The coaching is thoughtful and well-informed. The programming is challenging and interesting without being overdone. The facility is immaculate. An excellent environment for the seasoned athlete or complete, off-the-couch beginner.

Great experience, friendly people, and excellent coaching. I have dropped into a couple dozen boxes around the country, and CF MPH was one of my best drop in experiences. Coaches and members were friendly and welcoming. Great coaching from Coach Al and a warm welcome from Coach Kate who happened be taking the class. Definitely will return next time I am in DC.

Not sure what's changed since the prior reviews, but I'm an experienced CF-er who has dropped in around the world and country and I found this gym to be pretty small, with limited programming (metcon or lifting only, never both, and few lifting days, unclear if they do all the olympic and power lifts due to space limitations), and I did not feel the coaching was stellar - the warmup was strange and very cardio based. Different CF gyms are different, so this might be the place for some folks, but it was not my cup of tea. Also, the floor was really dirty and I definitely noticed that after 40 burpees on the floor. Not sure when equipment gets wiped down.

The owner, Melody, is knowledgeable and attentive. So much so in fact that she travels the world giving classes and tutorials to gym owners, coaches, and Crossfitters. She's also an expert in nutrition, mobility, and physiology, and her members reap the benefits from this expertise. Finally, Mel is a pillar of the community, organizing events for members and charity drives for disadvantaged groups. MPH is a wonderful place to find a whole-of-person approach to fitness and personal health.

Well-maintained CrossFit box with absolutely fantastic coaching.
The head coach was there both days that I dropped in and it was some of the best coaching I’ve in a box in a long time. I coach at a box in Miami and have visited over 100 boxes while traveling so I have seen the good bad and ugly... this was so so good!
I learned at least three new cues for coaching our athletes and got some help with my hand stand push-ups. I was extremely impressed with the pre class preparation (she had worksheets printed out for the wod to track scores).
I also noticed at all of the athletes (members) moved very well with a barbell and on body weight movements which is a sign of a safe and effective program.
If you’re considering trying CrossFit or switching gyms I would recommend this place.
Clear instruction, coaches are paying close attention to each member in the class and they know what they are talking about. Really enjoyed my two quick visits, I would be a member here if I lived here.

I've been doing CrossFit over 6 years and have probably dropped in to about 50 or so CF gyms over that time. Though most are usually good, it's rare when I can say I was truly impressed with the things I saw during my visit. MPH is one of the few. Great workout, coaching, and environment. Definitely recommend for anyone in DC.

I've been going here for over a year and absolutely love it. Mel and bkay, the head coaches, are fabulous with athletes of any level. The community is welcoming and but still pushes you to your limit which is the point! MPH will become the thing in your day you look forward to.
