Over the last 22 years, Derrick has coached celebrities, Olympians, beauty pageant winners, fitness models, TV personalities, newly minted personal trainers and goal oriented individuals just like yourself. He is considered around the fitness community as a trainer of trainers.

I've trained with Derrick off and on since 2015. In my initial time with him I lost over 20 lbs in a matter of months and was in the best shape of my life. He is BY FAR the best trainer I've had. I tried other trainers in the DMV area and haven't encountered any trainer that is as much of an expert as Derrick. I found my way back to him in 2025 and am already so pleased with our sessions.

Derrick knows his stuff and is extremely focused on results. He monitors your macros, which is key to reaching weight loss goals. He encourages you and doesn't have you do the same simple exercises (like bicep curls and squats) you can do on your own. He prioritizes functional exercises that engage your entire body to maximize your training time.

He is pricy, but it's worth it. You're paying for years of experience, expertise, and someone who devotes their full time to making you better. He's usually booked up for good reason. I recommend Derrick to my friends and am so glad I found him over 10 years ago!

Working with Derrick has been awesome. He is very thorough and starts off with a consultation to understand your goals, dietary restrictions, and lifestyle/fitness habits and experience. Derrick is clearly an expert at what he does and in the two months I’ve worked with him I’ve seen incredible results. I have worked with a personal trainer before, but Derrick provides a very clear framework and structure to follow. This framework has allowed me to build habits of exercise and diet.

Another thing I appreciate about Derrick is that he meets you where you are and will often remind me if I’m pushing myself too hard. For example, I used to push past my nausea during exercise, but Derrick has taught me to listen to my body and be more intuitive and take more breaks during recovery if needed. I used to not know what my boundaries were in a group fitness class and now I have a much better understanding of what my body is telling me.

Derrick is amazing! He is so encouraging and supportive, and he gets results I wouldn't have though were possible for me.

When I first went in to see him, I didn't have any particular goals -- just vaguely wanted to get into better shape. He said (among other things) "We'll get you down below 20% body fat." I thought (but didn't say out loud), Sshyeah, like that'll happen.

As someone who didn’t have a regular fitness regime before, I can unreservedly say that working out with Derrick has changed my life.

Derrick is a great trainer. He set goals for me for exercise and diet, keeping in mind some injuries that I needed to do strengthening exercises for without doing any additional harm. His training style is creative and fun, and he makes sure to teach you the exercise patterns so you are self sufficient. He’s also very cognizant of working around any injuries but delivering an effective workout each time. He’s also available constantly via text for extra doses of motivation, questions, or simply tearing down your excuses about cardio🙂
I would highly recommend you work out with Derrick. He has helped lay a foundation of habits where I now see myself as someone who exercises regularly. I’m not a person who is really into looking good or “working out,” but I do care about my personal health.

I approached Derrick because I was in a rut. Doing well with work and doing well financially, but I felt like I wasn’t going anywhere. I didn’t need a cheerleader (yuck) but I did want to have a “partner” who would help keep me accountable with my health and fitness goals.

Derrick has provided that. He knows what level you’re at; and wants to know what your goals are. He’s not all about Derrick’s goals; he’s about what you want.

Derrick is a fantastic trainer and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone interested in improving their physical fitness. I’ve been working with Derrick for roughly 3 months, and have been excited about the progress made so far.

I sought Derrick out with the goal of building more lean muscle. I’ve been going to the gym consistently for years, regularly track my body composition, and am able to get and stay lean. I struggle however, with putting on and keeping meaningful amounts of lean muscle.

Workouts with Derrick are great - a mix of body weight (TRX) and standard weights. He’s great at coaching you to push yourself, while still emphasizing quality of the workout over quantity/speed.

But I probably most appreciate how Derrick takes the time to explain the “how”/“why” behind the diet and workout program, and changes to the program are based on objective measurements (regular weigh-ins and body composition checks). It’s motivating and exciting to see the progress made in 3 months, but it feels even better to know that I can continue to take and apply the knowledge going forward for the rest of my life.

I've been training with Derrick nonstop for the last two years and I can say this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. He's completely transformed how I think about food and fitness with a very easy-to-follow diet. He uses an app to track your meals that actually imposes very little burden on your day-to-day, it takes just a couple seconds when you're eating to add the food to the tracker. He also taught me a very important lesson that you can still enjoy all your favorite foods, you just have to learn the nutrition in those foods and how to plan for when you can enjoy them (aka moderation). The important distinction that Derrick teaches is that you can calculate moderation, you just have to stick to the formula.

The workouts are very fun - we get a lot done and have a great time. I've been training twice/week for 1 hour each session. It's truly incredible how much noticeably stronger and fitter I am from sticking to the workouts. I went from barely being able to do a couple lunges two years ago to fun and difficult exercises like flipping my legs up over my head while just hanging from my arms. I've lost almost 100lbs and my blood pressure has plummeted. Derrick keeps telling me that I've become too strong and I don't need to train as often, but I'm having trouble cutting back because I love it so much. Which is totally crazy, the me from two years ago could barely get off the couch and now I get anxious if I've been sitting around too long. Derrick's the best trainer in DC and he's totally changed my life.

Thus far It has been an extraordinary experience working with Derrick, he has pushed me to new levels with my fitness that I did not anticipate I could achieve. He provides you with a realistic diet plan (abs are made in the kitchen after all) and he’s knowledgeable about exercises and technique. Derrick is the first personal trainer that I have worked with, and I only wish that I had done so earlier. In the past, I always considered working out to be a chore, but Derrick’s style of circuit training is both challenging and engaging. The hour that I spend training tends to fly by, which is not something I can say about any other workout I’ve tried. Not only do I always leave in a good mood, but I can actually see and feel how much stronger I’ve gotten since I started working with Derrick, which is an awesome feeling.

I also really appreciate Derrick’s flexibility when it comes to working with his clients' schedules. If you have to reschedule a session, Derrick will work to fit you in during a different time slot that week, no questions asked. He’ll also train you virtually if you are out of town.

I've been training with Derrick for five years now, and I can't recommend him more highly. After getting no results with another trainer, I've been amazed by the changes I've seen since starting with Derrick.

Training with Derrick is intense. He has a full arsenal of exercises--something new each week--designed to target and sculpt each individual muscle. It never gets boring, and it never gets easier. And that's the best part: all the hard work means real results. Derrick also has a rigorous (yet simple) diet plan that keeps you honest and gets you shredded.

The most unique thing about working with Derrick is the great feedback. Each session ends with a weigh-in and body-fat check, and Derrick sends regular feedback on my meal logs throughout the week. I can also text Derrick anytime about anything--workout advice, nutrition questions, injury issues--and he answers in a flash.

I’ve been working with Derrick for the past six months and he is amazing! He’s the perfect combination of information and motivation, and got me consistently exercising for the first time in my life.

We started with a thorough nutrition consultation, including a dynamic personalized calorie deficit target with macros, which we mapped against millimeters of body fat — and then tracked results week by week. We monitor everything via app and the measurability is incredibly motivating.

The workouts themselves are great - always mixing in something new with building reps or weight on a core exercise. I’ve done partner workouts with my fiancé and he’s got a range that fits against target goals. He works in a private gym that’s never had more than 3 clients in at a time. He’s got great exercises for the gym, but also some that are portable and can be done at home or on the road. And he pushes you to target your weak spots vs the natural inclination to work out your strengths, which ultimately drives much better and more balanced results.

My wife and I did partner training with Derrick for 24 sessions over 4 months and the results were incredible. First of all, Derrick starts your program with a focus on nutrition and how to be in a caloric deficit while managing your macros to lose fat and gain muscle.

He monitors your food consumption through an app and keeps you honest by doing weekly weight and body fat check-ins. There is no way to hide an extra donut or cupcake in your diet - he'll know by the change in your weight and body composition - total accountability.

Then he puts you through an amazing workout routine. Plyometrics, TRX, dumbbells, jump rope, machines - you name it. He keeps the workouts fun and engaging and you seldom repeat the same move.

The best part was the last class - he took measurements, showed us how much progress we made, and created a short video that compared the change in our bodies during the program. We were shocked by the results - we lost 32 lbs combined and leaned out like crazy!

The program changed our entire approach on how to be healthy, so the results are sustainable. My wife and I eat healthier and are more conscious of the calories in certain foods. Four months with Derrick changed our lifestyle, and we will never go back. I know it can sound scary, but don't be too concerned, we still eat most of the things we love, but we just manage our portions better and balance meals over the course of the week.

Although Derrick is on the expensive side, you can't beat the results. I did a personal training package at my normal gym, and while the workouts were fun, the trainer was not as vested in my success. Derrick expects you to be fully committed during the program and has a common goal of getting you results you want. While I'm sure he loves long-term clients that want consistent motivation, he was completely comfortable with us finishing the program and moving on, which is not what most personal trainers want.

The gym is private and usually has less than 6 people at a time, so we felt pretty comfortable, even during the time of COVID.

I've been working out with Derrick for 8 months and have never been this fit. I've used a personal trainer before and didn't have the same results. I've never worked out like this before, each session is challenging and different. He mixes up each session to make sure that you are getting the most for your time and money.

His program holds you accountable and it's a combination of diet and exercise. Before you start he lays out your plan based on your weight and body fat and what you need to do inside and outside of seeing him to see results. His program is designed to get you disciplined on the track to be able to workout on your own and he highly encourages that. He tracks progress weekly and reviews your diet to ensure you are getting the most out of his program.

Derrick has been my personal trainer now for a little over two years. He is fantastic! When I first started training with Derrick, I literally had never worked out before. In the last two years, he has built my confidence in the gym and in myself and my own strength.

What I like most about Derrick's training is that we never do the same exercise twice. He's always mixing it up! We also do so many varied exercises, so that we are working different muscle groups at the same time.

Derricks acumen can be measured through my results, which have surpassed what has been achieved with any other trainer, even when I was younger than I am today.

I cannot recommend Derrick highly enough. Over the past three years, I've tried all sorts of diets and fitness programs to try to lose weight. I even signed up with another highly reputable trainer in DC. I trained with him for 6 months and got more fit, but my weight stayed the same. I started to think I was just going to have to live with the extra 15-20 pounds. As a last-ditch effort, I signed up with Derrick. In only 3 months, I've lost more than 15 pounds and 7% body fat.

Derrick's program focuses both on nutrition and exercise. The first session, he gives you the minimum requirements to lose the weight and tone up, and then tells you what you can do for "extra credit" to make the process go faster. The weekly weigh-ins/body fat measurements keep you accountable, and he also checks up on your diet throughout the week with an app. I followed his program really carefully and am seriously amazed at how well it works and how sustainable it is. I'm not spending hours and hours in the gym, and I'm not giving up foods I love.

Derrick is also just a super fun and entertaining person. I look forward to the training sessions and I always leave in a good mood. The new facilities where he's training are great and easily accessible. Honestly, I could go on and on. Signing up with Derrick was the best decision I've ever made for my health. Derrick is an amazing trainer! Each session is challenging in a new and different way, so the workouts are never boring. Most of the workouts rely upon your own body weight, not machines, so they are dynamic and high-energy. In addition to training sessions, he also works with you on crafting a diet plan and monitoring calories and nutrition. Making those lifestyle changes can be tough, so it helps a lot that Derrick has such an upbeat, encouraging personality and a great sense of humor. He's great at motivating and gives helpful, realistic advice on how to stay on track.
Most important, Derrick's methods get results! After only a month, my weight and body fat have gone down, my clothes fit better, and I feel great. Derrick has also been really flexible about accommodating my crazy work hours, which I really appreciate in a trainer!

Derrick is a fantastic trainer, and I repeat - Fantastic! I have been with Derrick for almost a year or so, starting out with 2 sessions a week to 1 session a week. During this past year, I have gone down 2 pant sizes and lost over 20lbs! His workouts are tough, but varied and that keeps them engaging. I don't think we have done the same exact workout twice the whole time I am with him.

But I think what really set Derrick apart and make him a great personal trainer for me is his genuine personality. I feel like trainers hired by the gym are very methodical (i.e. Do this, then this will happen), but Derrick is very personal. He keeps me entertained throughout the sessions with funny stories and his perspective on health and wellness. He will make you feel like you are his most important client despite the tons of clients he is seeing everyday.
