I’ve been taking the 6 a.m. strength class on Wednesdays, and it’s been fantastic! Workouts are tough with a healthy mix of actual cardio on treadmills and elevated strength moves that require good control and form. Mel is a great instructor and gives helpful tweaks to your form. I’ve tried all the gyms in the area and the HIT and Run class is by far the most challenging. Highly recommend it for ex-athletes.

I've visited Elevate for the last 3ish years but only on an annual basis(I don't live in DC so its a hike). I came back because I'm into Hyrox races and it's a Hyrox gym. They have a Hybrid Athlete program that prepares you for Hyrox or any other hybrid race. I had Coach Eric and he is an amazing Coach! As a Hybrid Rookie, I had questions and needed help and he was super supportive and clear when assisting me. The class is beyond hard. Like, HARD! I was super impressed by how hard it was and now I have to go back. I'm HOOKED!

If you have a chance to visit this gym....Run, don't walk, and GO!

HIGHLY recommend this place. I’ve tried many other workout classes, this place is head and shoulders above them all.

Workouts have a good balance of strength training and cardio and they mix in a lot of athletic movements. It can challenge the best of athletes, but is also approachable for beginners, in large part because of the excellent instructors. They know their stuff and willingly help with form and adjustments. Instructors also seem to really enjoy it and that makes it fun.

Elevate is a very challenging workout! Unlike other HITT studios, Elevate incorporates aspects of CrossFit into their program. The right instructor is pivotal for your success here.

I strongly recommend taking Maureen as your instructor! She is absolutely dynamite!!

Maureen is deeply passionate about fitness and dedicated to your success in class! While pushing you to reach your max effort, she’s personable, knowledgeable, and cares how athletes execute the workout. During class Maureen will encourage you to push harder by dropping off heavier weights or pushing you to up the speed on the treadmill and she’ll coach you when she notices your form is off. A class with Maureen is not to be missed!

PS - There are occasionally dogs available to pet before and after class!!!!

The world is better on my Elevate days. I am better. Their HIIT and Run workouts give me endorphins like no other workout. The choreography is smart, has the variety to keep me interested and working hard, and is adaptable to all fitness levels. The instructors are effective and good humans. The management continues to participate in a silent auction for a homeless organization years after I first asked them too. If you want to get fit, happy, and be in a well-managed, thoughtful gym, come here. I am a founding member and have been to scads of gyms over my decades as a healthy holistic human. This truly is the best.

Solid and diverse community of athletes from all levels. I belong to a regular gym but I need the motivation from trainers and group fitness classes. This is such a special studio.

I have been coming here for a little over 2 years. Each coach has their own style but similar passion towards health. It's the little things that help make this studio stand out. They tend to do more partner workouts than comparable studios, but it feels intentional and a way they can help foster a positive atmosphere and help people feel more comfortable. Just as the coaches are different from each other, so are the people who attend the class. Sometimes at other places (like Barry's or OTF) the population tends to be a bit more homogenous, but I appreciate there's usually a mixed bag of DC folks in the class.

Everyone works at their own pace/level, but there's plenty of people just beginning to get into hiit vs diehards (my first class - which I died at - was next to a 7 month pregnant woman who was by all definitions killing it). There's more honest instruction about form (particularly by Jamel!). Give this place a try!!!!

Have been going for several years, always a great workout. Unlike a lot of other class-oriented gyms, the coaches actually give you individualized attention if you need help with your form, need to modify anything, etc.

If you’re looking for an intense workout in a non-intimidating environment, give it a shot. The trial packages are a steal and the memberships are a better deal than a lot of other studios.

Really like this gym in the u street / 14th street neighborhood and like that it's on classpass. Just wish there were fewer partner activities. Sometimes it's nice to just focus on the instruction and training and don't want to think about bonding with strangers. Overall and incredible workout though. Highly recommend especially those that enjoy Orange Theory and other HIIT classes. You will get an amazing workout and the coaches are top notch.

Class was super easy. We did a lot of standing around and very little working out unless we were on the treadmill. Definitely not worth a membership.

very challenging workout! a good twist on what I'm used to at other gyms with a similar treads/row/floor setup. the partner thing also added motivation. only issue was that it was a bit difficult sometimes to hear the instructor due to the quality of the amplified sound; maybe some of my problem was that it was my first class so I wasn't up on all the nomenclature.

This was my first experience in a group setting work out. It was no Joke. The exercises are designed to keep your heart rate up and back to back interval work out routine. I totally underestimated the amount of energy you need and how bad out of shape I was. Especially with a broken clavicle injury 6 months ago. Went last week for the first time and loved it. The class was great, a total body workout that had me drench in sweat by the end of it. Our instructor, Dave, was fantastic he was extremely friendly and very helpful in providing advice on technique throughout the class. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great full body, muscle building and cardo workout.

Pain...such pain like I have never felt before. With that being said, this place did its job. I had a great workout and felt completely exhausted afterwards. The entire time I was moving and working different parts of my body.

I am sure more athletic people would benefit from a consistent class experience but as a runner/biker I think that the best option for this type of class is attending weekly (with the 15 week package)... however if you don't do a lot of running/biking or outside activity definitely go for the 2x a week package (3 seems masochistic). Either way for the price you will definitely get your moneys worth!

Great workout, nice instructors, clean digs. Way better investment than sinking 75 a month into Washington sports club....

David Magida was the trainer for the session I attended. He owns the fitness center, and what a workout studio it is. State of the art rowing machines, treadmills, TRX bands, kettle bells, Heart rate straps they provide you with to post your stats up on screens and email to you afterwards, and the towels and nice showers you'll need after these 1-hour workouts. Hopefully I'm not releasing his trade secrets, but the hour was broken up into 5-8 minute interval workouts with short 1 minute breaks that consisted of kettlebells, TRX, various core body-weight explosive movements, 90 second fast runs with varying inclines on the treadmill, and varying time and distance rows. I've done crossfit, Ironman, and played sports in college. I can tell you that these workouts will work every part of your body, and you will be spent after the hour. You're not going to get hugely muscular doing these workouts alone, like in body building or some crossfit, but you will get ripped, toned, and build solid levels of endurance and functional muscle strength. A good group workout allows for athletes to get out what they put into it. I always aim to hold enough weight, or run at a speed that enables me to barely get through the reps/sets. As long as there is a good workout plan to follow, you should be able to find your level of intensity, and David delivers. It's a fun, and high energy atmosphere. I totally recommend it!

I have been a couple of times and its the most rewarding and enjoyable workout I have had in DC. The teamwork aspect really helps get through the tougher parts and the interval system creates natural breaks.
