Matt Moosavian has created an elite fitness studio that challenges you to be your best. The community is supportive, and the programming is unique and challenging. The coaches are incredible and have changed my life, especially Frank. This is the place to be if you're working toward a fitness goal such as running a race, a marathon or doing hyrox. Flex is truly unique and unlike any other gym in the DMV.

I had a similar experience to many of the more recent reviewers, which I see have become more negative over the last year:
The classes and trainers are AMAZING (shout out to Mia!), but the management,--specifically, Matt--is a nightmare.
He’s super unresponsive, including, or perhaps particularly, when it comes to crediting or refunding you for months/charges that he incorrectly charged you for. As with other reviewers he strung me out for months with promises of refunding me, which never materialized.
The last straw was when I got injured *during a workout*. I reached out by email and phone for guidance, but never heard back. (And yes, the trainer knew at the time it happened, so he couldn't accuse me of making it up).
I was disgusted by the callous indifference and unprofessionalism of a gym owner who wooed me into joining based on his claims of being a caring, community-oriented neighborhood gym that puts clients’ well-being first, unlike corporate gyms.
And based on my past experience , I was pretty sure he’d charge me for the months my doctor prohibited me from exercising.

Heads up to anyone thinking about working with the Matt (the owner) for personal training.
My fiancé and I both paid him upfront for coaching, and it ended up being a really terrible experience. The workouts appeared to be AI-generated, he frequently rescheduled or missed check-ins, and several times we didn’t receive the weekly plans we had paid for (even after following up). It came across as something that just wasn’t a priority for him.
When I raised my concerns, he acknowledged that things hadn’t gone well, said he was focused on other things, and promised to issue a refund. He sent half, but then stopped responding altogether. No replies to texts, calls, or DMs.
After sharing what happened, I heard from others who said they had similar experiences, which to me points to a concerning pattern of unprofessional behavior.
I’ve filed a dispute with my credit card company and will take further action if needed. I’m posting this to share my personal experience so others can make informed decisions.
UPDATE:
After months of no response, Matt finally replied after I posted about my experience on his gym's Slack channel. He again promised to pay the remaining refund but has since stopped responding.
He explained that he couldn’t process the refund via credit card because of the active dispute (which is true) and asked me to cancel the dispute so he could pay afterward. I declined since I would be giving up all leverage and, based on my prior experience, didn’t feel comfortable doing that.
He also asked that I remove my earlier post. I said I would once he completed the refund. He never sent it and removed me from the Slack channels where I had shared my experience.
I’m continuing to pursue the refund through my credit card company and, if necessary, small claims court. I’m updating this so others have full transparency about how things have unfolded.

I’ve been with FLEX for a little over a year and have been so impressed both with the ways my body has changed through the workouts and also the community I have built through the gym. The coaches really push you while also being super approachable. The MXT and MXT+ classes are primarily strength and conditioning, high intensity workouts, which are great for training for Hyrox or to complement a running training plan. Facilities are also great with recovery room on site (compression boots, massage guns, sauna, and cold plunge). Definitely check it out if you are looking for a challenging workout with good natured people.

This place is a mess logistically. I booked an MXT class through ClassPass and when I showed up they seemed as if they had no idea what ClassPass was and told me I didn’t need to check in or anything that I was “all good”. There was absolutely no structure to the class, I had no idea what was going on. Worst fitness class I have ever been to. Then 8 days later, I get an email from ClassPass that this studio marked me as missing the class, so I got charged a $17 missed class fee that ClassPass is refusing to refund because it’s been more than 7 days. I will never come here again.

The facility is decent, but the admin is unresponsive and irresponsible. My card was kept on file for recurring payments even after I had asked repeatedly via email over the course of many weeks for my plan to be canceled (the gym does not allow members to cancel their memberships by themselves). After this experience, I have a hard time believing they take care of their customers/athletes. I'd suggest folks to look for alternative gyms in the area.

Update: The new location is gorgeous! There’s triple the amount of equipment now since the gym has relocated to a larger space. The number of classes each week are endless!
I've been to one class so far and it pushed me in all of the right ways. Mia was my Coach and she's super friendly. She greeted me and gave me a nice chat before class since I arrived early. She also gave me a quick lesson, pre-class, on their Assault Treadmills which I really appreciated. During class, she gave me amazing corrections on my form and even hustled to switch out my weights mid class. I'll be going back each week(or close to it) until my race! Thank you, Mia for an amazing class and Thank you, Matt for creating Flex DC!

Flex is the nicest and best run gym that I have ever been to. Matt was always so helpful and nice, and the coaches - Mia, Syd, Frank - and everyone else were always so kind. The programming is great and you get an awesome workout.

Flex DC has the best coaches, workouts, community and vibe of any gym in DC. If you are looking to get after it and get great instruction this is the place to be. I would give it 100 stars if I could.

I went to several classes. The classes will push you. The programming is NOT like orange theory or Barry's. This is a mixture of dedicated strength, cardio, and CrossFit style movements.
Mia is such a great coach and welcomes everyone. I ended up not signing up because of the location and wanted to work on some CrossFit gymnastic movements.
However for people looking for a great strength based program, try them out!!

Amazing space, welcoming coaches and members, and my favorite way to wake up early. It’s a great place for me to challenge my fitness levels, from lifting heavy (and helping out my form issues) to sprinting fast. Highly recommend!

Absolutely love this gym!! From the outside it looks like an old building and leaves you with questions as to what FLEXDC is. As soon as you walk in, it is any fitness goer/enthusiast dream (and for my peeps that are into aesthetics - this is the gym)! They have almost every type of cardio equipment, along with dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, sleds, medicine balls, jump ropes, bands, and a lot more and did I mention a luxury shower area to wash off all of the sweat - very clean too! Great coaches and owner (Shoutout to MATT!!!)! Mia is one of my favs, along with Rain, Timesha, and Anthony! The classes they have weekly are definitely going to challenge you not only physically but mentally as well!

Spacious former firehouse converted into a sports conditioning facility that houses three different types of workouts: MooseFit (HIIT), HIIT Hard (boxing) and then running. Call it a mix of CrossFit and more cardio. The place is very well equipped: it contains conventional barbells and squat racks, water boxing bags, and dumbbells plus assault runners, echo bikes and sleds. The floors have artificial turf. A front desk greets you when you enter from the side. Towels are provided. There is a single restroom and a common area for placing bags in cubby holes. Wander in for a tremendous workout in a very cool space.
