I have finally found a yoga space where I feel movement, meditation, and spirituality exist cohesively. The power of all three here feels balanced. This is the place where you can begin or even continue your journey to getting closer to your authentic self and get closer to that inner child within you. This is a safe space to release all your emotions when needed.

I was a devoted member of Lighthouse Yoga (LH) for over 9 years. In that time, I found healing in classes taught by Nandi, Leshone, and Patrick (Kundalini Yoga-KY), Machelle (Yin), and Tara (Hatha). Unfortunately, I made the difficult decision to leave after experiencing sustained harm at the hands of three individuals: Rebecca (studio owner since Summer 2021), Manju (KY teacher since Winter 2020), and Andy (member since Sept 2023).

On September 1, 2024, I set clear boundaries with Andy after a disturbing pattern of unwanted behavior. Despite this, he continued to harass and intimidate me—hovering, speaking to me after months of no contact, and engaging in covert, psychological violations. When I addressed this on January 6, 2025 in a direct email to him, he deflected accountability and triangulated the situation to Rebecca and Manju. Shockingly, both women protected him and invalidated my experience.

On January 8, Rebecca told me my boundaries were “unreasonable,” blamed me for her involvement, and dismissed Andy’s behavior by suggesting “a new year” might have confused him. She spiritual-bypassed my safety concerns, asking me to offer grace rather than acknowledging the trauma of being repeatedly violated in a space that once felt sacred.

On February 2, at the end of a sound bath facilitated by Manju, the lights were low with only a few candles flickering. While speaking directly to Manju, I felt a surge of energy at my back right ribs. Turning, I saw Andy standing silently just 3 feet behind my right arm. His presence felt intrusive and deeply unsettling. I immediately moved away. On February 5, I calmly asked Manju via voice message to look out for me in the future. She initially responded with openness.

Then, at 3 a.m. on February 6, she sent a barrage of cruel and abusive texts parroting defamatory statements weaponized by Andy. I learned at this moment: Manju had harbored deep resentment and bitterness for years, concealed behind a mask of neutrality. When I asked for support, she turned on me. To her, I was creating drama by speaking up.

Manju, who teaches trauma-informed yoga, weaponized her role as a healer and dehumanized me as a paying student. After 4 years of trust, the betrayal was devastating. I began to wonder how long her unspoken judgments had infected my practice. It’s chilling to realize someone can hold power over your healing while quietly despising you.

On March 1, during a KY immersion, Rebecca misrepresented a falsehood—claiming “as the studio owner, in my opinion, Hatha yoga is Kundalini yoga.” An opinion doesn’t need power-laden titles to be valid. That same day, I witnessed Manju speak about teacher-student ethics without once acknowledging the inherent power imbalance or the teacher's responsibility to hold and enforce boundaries. Instead, she blamed students for feeling entitled or invasive—distorting the dynamic entirely.

Lighthouse Yoga is now a toxic space. Boundaries are erased. Harm is minimized. Leadership enables misconduct while spiritualizing their control. When I needed Rebecca and Manju most—two women, mothers of daughters, and elders—they failed me. What they modeled was not wisdom, but transactional loyalty and gaslighting. I gave this studio my loyalty, presence, warmth, and money. In return, I was discarded like trash.

This place now feels cult-like: conform or be cast out. Safety is selectively granted based on who holds power. I chose to leave on my own terms—because I remembered I am worthy of protection.

To future victims: I am not the first, and I won’t be the last. I’ve left evidence with trusted community members. If a civil action is ever filed against Rebecca for negligence, know this: she chose to keep and protect a known predator at her studio. That is on record.

The studio’s decline speaks for itself. Karma circles back in time.

Lighthouse Yoga lives up to its name; it provides a safe and nurturing space in a crazy world. The teachers are highly knowledgeable and supportive, and there are a variety of interesting classes and workshops. I especially recommend the Kundalini classes by Manju, Nikki, LeShone, Nandi, and Suzanne. The studio owner, Rebecca, is warm and welcoming. The space itself is beautiful. I've been practicing yoga for about 25 years in many different places, and this is my all-time favorite studio.

“Yoga for new movers” is the cutest class! The teacher is very thoughtful and uses the class to create a nice space for babies to practice crawling and walking. The parents that attended were all very kind. The studio is beautiful and provided mats at no cost, which was a nice touch.

I love the community at Lighthouse Yoga Center. What intrigues me the most is the amount of classes that are offered from Kundalini Yoga, Hatha Yoga, and Prenatal Yoga. There is also a variety of workshops at your fingertips to meet all of your spiritual and physical needs. In a recent class, someone expressed to me that it was so refreshing to find such an all inclusive yoga space in the DMV area. All of the teachers at Lighthouse have something beautiful to offer!

I love Lighthouse. The teachers, the variety of classes, a ton of interesting workshops, the unpretentious vibe, and community-focused ethos have been a welcome presence in the neighborhood since coming to their Kennedy Street location. I try to practice with them at least a couple of times a week, and with online and in-person classes available, it’s convenient and fun. Everyone, teachers and students alike, have all always been kind and welcoming. The studio itself is always clean and obviously well cared for. Highly recommended!!

Lighthouse Yoga Center has been a wonderful find since moving to Petworth. Such a diverse community of people and they are so welcoming! I really enjoy being able to try many different types of yoga classes, and there seem to be a ton of great events on the schedule every month. Having the flexibility to take online classes from home as well has been great for my busy schedule. Highly recommend.

I'd been to Lighthouse Yoga Center a few times before the pandemic. Since stay at home started, however, I've taken multiple classes a week every week. Their online kundalini classes have arguably been the thing/service that's helped me the most during this time - they are such a good exercise for the body and the mind. I look forward to be able to go back far more than a few times in person.

I recently moved back to DC. While living in LA, Kundalini became a very stabilizing force in my life. The owner, Julie Eisenberg (Jiwan Shakti Kaur,)
is a delightful force of nature. I am grateful to have found a Kundalini Studio, in DC, that preserves the teachings of Yogi Bhajan! Sat Nam!

A place where you're noticed, cared and appreciated. Lighthouse likes to build community, to help each other out, and the quality of yoga is excellent, too many different teachers with their unique styles of sharing their passion: Yoga. This is a place where you can come to be yourself, be treated with love and always feeling encouraged to grow and become a better version of yourself!

Great community and quality yoga. The owner and all teachers and staff at Lighthouse Yoga are committed to teaching a serious yoga practice that everyone can benefit from on and off the mat. The new location on Kennedy Street is a gem that gives this great community a place it can call home. I've been attending classes since June 2018, and really love the variety of classes from the Kundalini classes (this is the only studio in the DC metro area that focuses on a strong Kundalini program) to the variety of Hatha and Vinyasa classes. I quickly became a regular here, and I've seen that everyone who attends classes is welcoming to those who are new members, new to yoga, or people just visiting DC.

A caring, supportive and noncompetitive place to practice yoga with experienced instructors. They have weekday mid morning and mid afternoon class offerings, too, which is great for those of us not working a traditional 9-5 schedule.

Went to a yoga class last Friday... Great way to start the weekend off! Yoga and I are no strangers but Lighthouse yoga with Jared was the first time that the class started with true dedicated breathing exercises. Very helpful for my practice to open with such a focus on breathing technique!

Highly recommend you try this place as soon as possible. The staff were also extremely helpful in helping me achieve the inversions that I currently find difficult.
