I trained at this gym for a long stretch, working both 1:1 with a personal trainer and jumping into plenty of CrossFit classes with the coaching staff. The entire place has a strong training culture, but my PT in particular was on another level.
As someone who now coaches athletes myself, I can honestly say he shaped a lot of the way I program and teach. His focus was always on movement quality first: explosive power, clean mechanics, smart progressions, and making every session feel purposeful—not random.
The CrossFit coaches were great too—supportive, energetic, and good about scaling without making it feel like scaling. Classes always had a clear intention instead of just “hard for the sake of hard.”
If you’re looking for a place that builds real, functional strength and actually teaches you how to move, not just sweat, this is the spot. I walked in as a client and walked out inspired enough to become a coach myself. That says everything.

I've been doing personal training at Old City CrossFit for many years. The coaches are amazing and the gym really offers something for everyone. There are classes at all hours of the day, and the personal trainers will work around your schedule. I'm in better shape now due to their training than when I was in my 20s!

I did personal training here with Jason. I usually stay fit working out on my own, but nothing compared to how I felt after training with him. I consistently walked out having some of the best workouts of my life. He’s incredibly personable and takes the time to understand your goals and build a plan to help you reach them. He knows how to push you in the right way—challenging without ever being overbearing. Highly recommend.”

Love this gym. Joined OC Crossfit a few months after moving into the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Great coaches, great workout, great schedule, great members. No complaints!

Chose this box for wod while visiting from out of town. I liked the vibe and style - old skoolish - while in a neat older neighborhood. Coach Jess was friendly with good instruction. Other members were also friendly. I would come back again if ever back in DC.

Visited the DC area and stopped by for a noon-session on a weekday. I instantly felt like a regular: from the members to the coaches, everyone was friendly and helped with form and any questions I had. I can't thank the people of this gym enough and I will easily be visiting them again the next time I come to town!

I joined Old City CrossFit after trying out a few other gyms in DC, and so far, I love it. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. One of the major highlights of this gym is the coaching team. Jen, Jason genuinely care about helping you improve based on your individual level. They take the time to explain the workouts and the weekly programming in detail. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a welcoming and supportive crossfit experience.

Old City has been such a great gym to explore CrossFit and get back into fitness. I started having no real concept of lifting or gymnastics movements and Old City coaches have been so helpful and encouraging in helping me improve! I’ve made plenty of friends at the various classes and really enjoy the kind and laid back community here. I don’t find it quite as competitive as some CrossFit boxes I’ve visited which I really enjoy, and has made for a truly accepting atmosphere!

Dropped in while traveling for work. The coach Kara was super friendly and attentive. I’m nursing a back injury and was worried about being pushed out of my comfort zone, but she allowed me to take the lifting and workout at my own pace. The facility is also clean and while maintained. I’ve visited quite a few CrossFit gyms in the DC area and this is the one I’ll be going back to.

I just hit my 30th workout today. This place is awesome and all of the coaches really help you figure each movement out, and of course are super friendly. I highly recommend Old City for anyone at any fitness level 💪

I joined Old City Crossfit about a month and a half ago with zero experience and I have been LOVING it! I'm so happy I gave it a shot! The coaches are spectacular and super encouraging. They are great teachers who emphasize correct form and help me to scale everything to fit my level (while still pushing me). If you're looking for great people, look no further. The people at Old City aren't overly competitive and they want to see you succeed. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for a dynamic, challenging, and fun place to push their fitness to the next level.
For real, sign up for the intro 1:1 or drop in a class. See ya at the gym!!!!

Only did one drop in but the coach did a great job welcoming me and my girlfriend to the gym. After the drop in received an email with great suggestions for local places to try for food and coffee. I wish more CrossFit gyms did this! Excellent place to drop in for anyone visiting DC!

Awesome box.
I was visiting from the UK, had quite a few week points to work on, the coach (David) went over and way above what he needed to do and I expected- really helped a ton, thanks David!
The other CrossFitters attending class were so friendly and encouraging.
And the box followed up with reccomendations for the City.
Incredible service!

I have been a loyal Old City member since the beginning and can not give enough positive praise to Sean, Erin, the whole coaching staff, and the community at Old City! I genuinely feel a part of something bigger at Old City and the level of caring from the coaches to the members is apparent in every class I attend. I have never been a member of a gym for more than a few months until Old City and could not imagine my life in DC without this crew. The coaches are amazing at reinforcing proper form and care about members to coach you to a place where you can challenge yourself with safe boundaries and support. Moreover, at what gym will you find a coach who calls and texts you to hold you accountable for your health. If you think you want to improve yourself in a place where you are cared for, Old City is the place for you!

I started at Old City back in February doing the six-week fitness challenge after having my third child. Coach David got me hooked on CrossFit and six months later I am in better shape than ever. I have taken classes with most of the coaches and they are all amazing. I also have found the community to be very warm and supportive. I believe there are both physical and mental health benefits to being part of a gym community like this and would highly recommend it for anyone, even if you are not in amazing shape - you will be soon!

I'm just getting back into working out after an injury.
The staff is super friendly. After filling out some info for a free intro class online, I was contacted over the phone by Katie. She was helpful in answering my questions.
I was delighted when I showed up for my sessions and she was also the instructor. Knowing my background she worked with me during the skills and WOD portions of the class.
If you are new to CrossFit or just aiming to drop in, Old City CrossFit is a good place to stop in.

Not a great swim class if you have children. Here are the reasons:
1. Your child never gets the same coach week to week...ever. How do you expect your child to put their head under water when a complete stranger is holding them? You reallyl expect a child under 5 to do that???
2. They get very nitpicky on the form. I want my kids to learn to swim not compete in the Olympics. My 6-year-old was on the same level for 8 months because she could not straighten her toes. She was in a class with kids 2 years younger than her. Yet thanks to many vacations with pools, she could swim the length of the poll unlike kids many levels higher than her. It really sapped her confidence around swimming. I have spoken to many parents who also felt this frustration.
3. Want to cancel? Want to take a break for awhile? Prepare to go to battle for your money. I had to have MULTIPULE calls and emails to try to rectify this. Even though I had email confirmation that my kids were out they still continue to charge me. I had to dispute the charge on my credit card.
They a good system in terms of levels, it is just so poorly executed that it is not worth the VERY expensive fee they charge.

I've been doing Crossfit for over 2.5 years and have been a member at old city crossfit for the past year. While the physical space may seem small and unassuming compared to other boxes in the area, the coaches are creative with the space so that you always have enough room to do the WOD. Old City is low pressure for a Crossfit box, and really tries to create a sense of community. Old City also has unique scheduling with classes on the half hour before and after work, and with classes like yoga and gymnastics. Even with the low pressure atmosphere, I've seen incredible gains in my overall fitness level and crossfit skills. I highly recommend.
