I’ve been a member of several OTFs over the years and this studio/these SAs/these coaches are probably my favorite.

I was recommended this orange theory location and was more than happy with my initial experience. I am new to working out and all the staff were all very kind and explained everything. Thanks Liz and Bella!

I have been going to OTF now for about 8 months. When I started, I did not feel comfortable going to my own gym because of my anxiousness about dropping weights or not knowing how to properly lift. Coach Liz and Jacob and many others have taught me how to properly lift weights and my amount of muscle mass has significantly improved (we have in body scans to detect muscle mass). Additionally, I am hoping to get engaged soon and assistant manager, Bella, has helped with with an accountability plan to look my best self on my engagement day. I have truthfully felt the best about my body in years. In Navy Yard, you have a lot of great fitness studios to choose from - to me what makes OTF stand out is the one-on-one attention each individual gets who walks into the studio. All the coaches know me by name and my fitness goals - I truly feel like I have multiple personal trainers without paying the price of a personal trainer.

I've been a member at OTF Navy Yard for almost a year now, and it’s been one of the best fitness communities I’ve ever been a part of.

From day one, the transition from my previous studio was seamless. The staff made it incredibly easy and efficient, which made a huge difference in staying consistent with my workouts. However, what really sets this studio apart is the team. They’ve been nothing but accommodating.

Whether it's been sickness, work events, last-minute cancellations or other unexpected circumstances, they’ve always been understanding and supportive.

Safety and member health are a top priority here. Coaches take the time to check forms, explain new equipment and demonstrate moves. I’ve never felt like I’ve been left guessing, which is critical when dealing with heavy weights and fast treadmills. The team has even followed up with me several times to make sure everything’s going okay, which really shows how much they care.

But my favorite thing about OTF Navy Yard is the sense of community. The staff genuinely gets to know members and creates such a welcoming, positive atmosphere. It’s more than just a workout. It feels like you’re part of a genuine, caring and engaged community - which all starts the minute you walk in. Can’t recommend it enough!

Upon arriving 10-15 minutes early for my first intro class at 7am. I was met with attitude and flat out rudeness from the manager I spoke with at the front. I can understand "corporate policy" requiring me to be taught how to use a heart monitor but that doesn't take the advised 30 minutes they wanted. In the time the manager spent outright scolding me, she could've spent showing me how to quickly use the heart monitor and I would've still had time to refill my water before the class would begin.

NOT TO MENTION, this was a Free intro class and I was still hit with a $15 charge at the 7:15am start time for a late cancellation to a class that I was not only 10 minutes EARLY for, but was denied from. When I called to get this charge reversed, the front desk woman, "Bella," also provided a particularly arrogant and selfish tone when I asked if it was possible to get this charge reversed because of the fact that I was in fact there in time, they just didn't like the condition which I arrived under.

While this charge was inevitably corrected, I will never be returning to Orange Theory Navy Yard after this ~incredible~ first impression from multiple staff members.

After two years, paying a premium membership, and positive memories ... extremely disappointed in the inability to provide flexibility for members of the military. Turns out it's easier to terminate an apartment lease in Washington DC than a gym membership without penalty.

I had a great workout at this location. The staff was friendly, and the locating was within walking distance from my hotel. I'm from out of town and showed up on a team workout day, and the other OTF members were awesome. I felt very included. And this location had full screen monitors on the treadmill, very nice!

Very disappointed I was looking to join until I went in for my intro class. I drove 35 minutes on my lunch break to make an intro class, on my way I notified them I was running late but still managed to walked in at 11:42am for the 12:00 class. Sarah at the front desk immediately let me know that she had already removed me from class, and proceeded to tell me they need a minimum of 20 minutes and they couldn’t manage it in 18 minutes… as a business owner I would never approach a new customer in this manner. Regardless of offering to reschedule me I will definitely not be returning.

All the instructors are great but can we get more variety in music? It’s all edm remixes of pop songs all the way through. Can we get rap, hip hop, r&b, etc.? It just doesn’t to be “white girl” music.

I have enjoyed OTF locations elsewhere but this one was very disappointing. The workout was boring, the trainer disengaged (didn’t give an overview of the class at start time which is standard at other OTF locations, then sped through instructions during the class), the class started over 5 min late and ended 5 min early, and the trainer didn’t bother to correct anyone’s form. As a first time client at this location I’d expect the trainer or receptionist to ask me if I have any injuries, orient me to the space, and try to engage me during class. Instead, neither bothered to even really make eye contact. They also sent me an excessively long, detailed, and buggy online intake form which took me 20 min to submit even when I attempted to ignore most questions. I’m certain they don’t even read these forms or they’d notice it requires you to check all choices under multiple choice questions in order to submit, so responses are useless and a waste of the customer’s time. It appears to be a franchise focused on making money (lots of membership cancellation nightmares reported in these reviews), whose trainers and staff feel no stake in its success. Will not be wasting anymore money on drop-ins here and am just relieved I didn’t become a member.

I typically don’t leave reviews for companies but I was floored with OTF Navy Yard. I’m writing this review because it may help someone making a decision to patronize this business. Let me start by saying initially I was apprehensive because I’m by no means a fitness girl lol. I’m a plus size woman and going by the rumors of the workouts are “super hard core” made it daunting.

My first class was amazing. The customer service was elite and I didn’t feel “judged” and I know many people can feel that in gym environments. They take great covid precautions too. The trainer I worked with was Abby. She was awesome and friendly. The front desk staff were also amazing. I plan on starting a membership. If you’re thinking about coming but are unsure definitely do it.

Orange Theory is one of the best workouts I have ever done, hands down. I am not an athlete, and I have really struggled with working out over the years, in fact I kind of hated it. But ever since joining Orange Theory this year that has changed. It is definitely a hard work out, but it is fun, the music is great, I get encouraged but not pressured, and I am getting stronger and running faster than I ever have. I mean, I ran 10 miles per hour the other day! Granted it was only for 30 seconds, but still!! I come from a 30 minute mile, so pretty SLOW, lol. 10 out of 10 for Orange Theory, DEFINITELY!! :-D

I was very apprehensive only because I have never been consistent with class style workouts. Boy, was I wrong! I wish I would have started Orangetheory years ago. I signed up two weeks ago and have been going consistently every two days. I feel amazing after each workout (besides being incredibly sore) and I've probably burned more calories working out in the past two weeks than I have in the past two years. The classes are engaging, motivating, and the coaches are well-versed and easy to talk to. I couldn't recommend Orangetheory more (Navy Yard specifically). Thank you for a renewed motivation to be in the best shape I can be!

The way they have handled my membership in COVID has been awful. I explained to them at the beginning that I had a health condition that made me returning to the studio before I was fully vaccinated impossible. They made me get a doctors note, which I did in which my doctor asked that my membership be frozen until I was able to be vaccinated. They told me they would accept it and freeze my account for 60 days and follow up again before 12/21 to freeze it again. Why they needed to do this was beyond me since there was no vaccine then and no ability for me to return. They never followed up - they claim they texted me but I went so far as to check my actual cell phone records and it never happened. So they charged me instead and refused to reverse the charge. It’s sad because I was planning to return after I was vaccinated but after the way they treated me I will NEVER patronize an OTF again.

Orange Theory in the Navy Yard has recently re-opened, and I’m thrilled. It’s one of the things I missed most during quarantine. They have done some major modifications to adhere to social distancing and mask rules. I feel a million times safer here than at the grocery store. As of now, classes are limited to 12 people which means there are two stations in between every person and no one else touches your equipment during the entire class. Masks are worn during transition, entry, and exit. They have it down to a science. Everyone cleans their equipment, and then OTF cleans it all again between classes. It’s a new normal, and I’m already used to the modifications. Everyone there is doing their very best to make things as safe as possible while getting attendees as many SPLAT points as possible. Thanks to everyone at OTF Navy Yard!!

Love this Orangetheory studio! Since reopening after the COVID shut down, I have been very impressed with their safety protocols. You wait outside, spaced out, on the sidewalk before class. Your temperature is checked on the way in with a contactless thermometer, and you are asked a series of questions about symptoms, whether you’re a health care worker, and whether you’ve been around anyone with COVID.

The classes are limited to 12 (the studio can fit up to 36 at once) but except for classes at the busiest time of day (before work and weekends), most of the classes I’ve attended have been 6-9 people. You’re sufficiently spaced out from people (on all stations there are two empties in between people), and you wear masks when changing stations. People come in through the front and leave out the back and nobody touches the same station during a class. Meaning, if I’m assigned station 12, I’m on 12 the whole time and so everyone only touches their numbered station. We wipe everything down after use but then they clean the whole studio afterward. The coaches/staff also wear masks the whole time.

I’ve been going since the first day they reopened and they have kept up these protocols with the same rigor.

I highly recommend this OTF! Special shout out to my fav coaches Everett, Demi, and Tyler!

Orangetheory Fitness is an intense work out that follows the same base format (a third on treadmills, a third on rowers, and a third on the weight floor). Within that format, each day is different based on what you do on the treadmill, rowers, and weights. The treadmill asks you to either run at your base pace, push pace, or all out pace. The rowers often have you row for several hundred meters and then do squats, jump squats, or a weighted ball work out in between. The weight floor sees the most variety from bicep curls to core to abs.

Everyone does the work out at their own pace, but the goal is to get your heart rate to the orange zone. That means everyone is wearing a heart monitor and you can track your progress on screens. The playlist is always on point and inspiring.

This particular location is in Navy Yard by Slipstream. It's larger than other locations and has two unisex bathrooms and two showers (bath towels are not provided, but shampoo, conditioner, and soap are). The lockers have their own locks on them that are easy to use. The staff are super nice at this location.

The only complaint about Orangetheory in general is the price tag. It's expensive! All locations within D.C. are considered premium locations so it's more expensive. For the unlimited class package, it's well over $200 a month.

Orange Theory offers a very active and tough workout routine run by a single trainer. The workouts include running, rowing, and lightweight dumbbell workouts. They are challenging but motivating. The trainers here are knowledgeable and give a ton of support and energy, Check it out for a class, no need to sign up right away.
