The two water fountains broke and they didn’t have any alternatives- just a shrug when I asked. I’d say it’s pretty dangerous to not have easy access to water at a gym….

Things like this happen, but normally the company would buy bottled water nearby (there is a target about a 5 minute walk away) and hand it out.

Also, parts of this fountain has been out of order for at least 3 weeks…

My experience at this Planet Fitness has been terrible. I was wrongfully banned after another member, who regularly uses the stair stepper, falsely told staff that I was recording him. About a month ago I made the mistake of taking a photo of the floor because of the large pool of sweat under his machine, which blocks the walkway in the gym. I was warned by the manager and understood that it would not happen again. The next time I came in, I did not take any photos or videos at all.

Despite this, the staff banned me without showing any camera footage or providing any proof that I violated the rules, and they refused to give me the manager’s contact information. I had not been there in a week and had no idea I had even been banned until I tried to check in.

The front desk employee, Jamaine, would not listen to my side of the story and treated me very disrespectfully. Instead of allowing me to speak with a manager or calmly review the situation, he called the police, who then told me I was banned from the premises. I have attached a photo of him, which was obtained from another persons negative review on how he treats customers. Seems like a pattern.

To the manager or whoever oversees this location: please respond with a way to contact you directly (phone or email) so I can discuss this further. This has been an extremely frustrating and upsetting experience, and I plan to escalate to corporate if necessary.

9/2/2025 At approximately 9:31PM (21:21) a staff member of the ivy city location began treating me very disrespectfully for no reason.
I was throwing away some old post workout food in the trash and cleaning the table when he told me to put food into the recycling bin. Then he told me to take off the lid of the bin because the hole was too small to fit my trash. I didn’t have gloves to handle the unsanitary recycling bin so I declined initially. (Also, food is for compost, not recycling)
Five minutes later after cleaning my space I asked to use the massage chair. He said I couldn’t use the massage chair because he didn’t like the fact that I didn’t use it earlier. I asked him why that was a problem and as a response he threatened to call security to have me escorted out. He then accused me of having been in and out of the building thirteen times that day. I said I had only been in and out like twice. Around lunch time and once that night. He knew I was a black card member as he had been present when I checked in earlier. I told him the cameras would verify this as well. He continued his aggressive behavior and his lack of reasoning led me to believe he might be mentally unstable. He continued to lie and threaten to kick me out for no reason. He refused to give his name but when I said I was leaving and calling the manager, an older employee with a Jamaican accent offered to assist me and I was allowed to use the massage chair. (Despite the fact that I was told it was out of order by another lying staff member) They only gave me two minutes for the massage chair until I approached the older employee; (who was not even on shift) after which the lying employee and his lying coworker friend (not the older gentleman) complied begrudgingly.
The way I was treated was beyond unprofessional which is disappointing because I have been paying extra money monthly for black card membership to use the massage chair which I had not yet used until now.

This place is falling apart. The locker room has been falling apart for the entire nine months I've been coming here. Broken and/or missing locker doors. Pry marks suggesting forced entry. It's nuts. It's very clear management is avoiding spending any money on upkeep.

The staff have always been respectful and friendly. Can't say the same for management. Today the water fountain/bottle fill station was out of order. I asked if they were perhaps comping the cheap, generic bottles of water they sell. Staff told me I'd have to buy them, though they also seemed frustrated by the policy. I spoke with a manager who couldn't have cared less and told me that, no, they did not have free water to replace the fountain. The level of rudeness from her was a terrible look for the company as a whole.

It's a gym. Having access to water is literally a safety issue. The rudeness that came from the manager have me considering finding a new gym.

Equipment availability never an issue here, but their water fountain has been out of service for over a week and there's no sign of repair happening. Asked the desk crew if there was an alternate option for water and they said the directive came from management that everyone has to buy water, so had to purchase Kirkland branded Costco water for $1 each. If nothing else, at least sell it at cost until you get the fountain back up and running!

They better hope nobody has a serious medical issue for their failure to provide such a basic service as drinkable water.

I was going to the ivy city location for a month because I moved and that location was more convenient the staff seemed to frown upon the check in form of your phone number ( nobody offered any alternative but downloading a app to my phone which I refuse because I have the right to not download apps to my phone that’s not for business) so mind you up until a week ago I check in pretty much no problems but the employee Erick g seemed to have a problem with that form of checking in because he aggressively implied that “I need to download the app to my phone cause he not bout to keep checking me in (via my phone number) so I respond by saying “ im not asking you to do anything special just do your job” so he said he not gonna keep checking me in that way. So I said I pay for a service either you going to check me in or I’ll walk in if that’s easier for you.. so he didn’t check me in mind you it’s a line of people right there doing this discussion ( very unprofessional). So I proceeded to my normal workout ( mind you not thinking nothing of the situation cause it didn’t seem that big also I asked him for the manger he never even gave a answer) but in the middle of my workout the police walked to me and ask to speak to me and said something’s that were untrue like I cursed the guy Erick out and I don’t even use that type of vocabulary then mind you the manager there explaining the situation to the police she wasn’t even present doing the discussion nor did she ever attempt to make contact and de-escalate the situation like a simple resolution would have been to give me a key rind card which the officer requested I do and the situation would’ve been resolved… but they banned me due to me assertively asking to be checked in then on top of that the police was called over a verbal disagreement like they have no real protocol or accountability for mistreatment… you never know how calling the police on someone cause effect there livelihood or traumas and that was the first result is totally unacceptable and very distasteful for a business. then no one explained what curse word that I allegedly used that was so server that it gets me band from a place I pay to receive a service and did nothing but try to check in is ludicrous… it’s a decent gym but terrible customer service and the manager Toni was no better when I reached out to her!!

There was a guy cleaning in the girls’ locker room. I told him I was going to shower and the guy didn’t want to leave. No guys should be allowed in the girls’ locker room, especially when there is a girl in the room. Very disrespectful and disturbing behaviors from the staff. Planet fitness at Chinatown is really good. My only suggestion is that it be bigger. It’s very popular and the crowds are consistently at 40% from 7am to 1pm then it gets very busy. No lunkheads, there is pretty good air circulation but the place can smell, which is understandable. The staff is very nice. And there is security outside and inside because of its location. I go everyday. No problems.

My experience with one of the managers, Keona, has been consistently negative. This is not my first encounter with her; she often displays rudeness and a poor attitude. Despite her colleagues attempting to assist with various matters, she tends to undermine their efforts, demonstrating a lack of basic customer service skills. Initially, my expectations for the gym's customer service were high, as my first interactions were positive. However, it seems that the quality of service has declined, particularly as they hire individuals who do not prioritize customer satisfaction. If someone is unhappy in their job, they should reconsider working in a role that involves interacting with others. The gym should be a motivating and uplifting environment where people come to relieve stress, not to encounter additional frustrations.

I’ve been coming here for almost a year now and the staff has turned ghetto. Came into interaction with a female worker I’ve never seen before. She’s slightly tall, dark skin, wore a wig. When I walked in, she asked if I had another pair of shoes to wear - I assume it’s cause I had my slides on but I had my gym bag hanging from my arm. So it should’ve been obvious that I needed to go change regardless. Not everyone comes into the gym dressed to work out. That’s the reason why there is a locker room. So I responded to her in a confused manner saying “I have my bag right here.” I guess that pissed her off cause we were dealing with attitude for the remainder of the night.

When my boyfriend had scanned his QR code, he already knew he had to pay the balance because a different girl from the night before notified him of it the night before but didn’t make him pay right then and there. So my boyfriend was trying to ask the girl if the late fee is going to be waived since the other girl told him he didn’t have to pay the night before. But because she still wanted to have an attitude from our interaction, she didn’t even answer his question or acknowledge the fact that he was speaking.

So now what’s crazy to me is, there’s a heavy set girl with a blonde wig who works at this location too who is normally very nice, polite and professional. But coincidentally, after seeing her speak with the initial girl, me and my boyfriend are now getting treated differently by the one who is normally professional. Quite frankly, the environment is weird now that they are hiring these different people. They pick and choose as to what to enforce and who to question which causes confusion. Because if you’re questioning me about shoes, although I wasn’t dressed yet, then why aren’t you questioning the people wearing jeans?

I been coming to this planet fitness for about 2-3 years now but had a horrible experience with Earl today. I was scanning a pass and he demanded to see my ID and became VERY irate and started slamming his hands on the table. Honestly when men get that aggressive with me it just scares me away. I love this location. First time experiencing in here, I took a shower I know my key lock they came and changed it. The male staff just wanted to see me. And then after he fixed it. I simply said whatever and that’s my right. He said OK next time he’s not. Laugh out because they don’t sell the water I like. And I needed a snack before I exercise. And yes, I do like to exercise at night. Why do you make a 24 for ? But as I walk out, the gentleman who was bothered by me, told me no you can’t leave the premises because you have a suitcase. This time I have a very small suitcase. I have breast cancer. I’m leaving within the area to get snack . He said the police are outside and he was going to throw my stuff in the trash. I’m walking back now. Let’s see if this is a nice picture. What is going to trash but he came back to the my locker again. Holding myself hostage I hope everything is there . I left my water in there and now I can’t hang up my coat. He said he’ll open it when he feel like it . I’m stretching for breast cancer now. So he opened it and still miss placed my items. I thought I already returned. And and exercising. But left my Fiji water on the bench. So what’s the reason if I’m already back ? It was loud in the lobby since he doesn’t want to charge the black card room for privacy doing my schoolwork . So I went out front for a quick quiet for a questionnaire for school and he follows me outside . Off the property to another area across the street to watch me. I walked in and openly said now I feel stalked. I’m keep calm but I feel very unsafe just trying get my work done and a workout. Now gossiping about me to other customers. If someone ask if not you business to talk any more. Just have your a manger call me. But as much as he want to explain he should have never communicated wrong or treated me.

Truly enjoy this Planet Fitness Location. The set up - all machines & equipment on one floor, friendly & helpful staff, its cleanliness - are all great. The 24/7 hours are fantastic. Just need to totally Replace the problematic, shoddy lockers that have combination mechanisms that fail routinely and the pressed wood construction is cheap and separates from hinges in an insecure way periodically. Go metal like I’ve seen some PFs do - and have folks bring their own padlocks or combination locks - and sell locks at front fest as backups.

Is it adequate and meet my needs for a gym? Yes. They have plenty of machines (cardio and weights). But is it a fantastic gym? No. Maybe it's just the terrible DC heat, but it's fairly warm and humid in there, making workouts more difficult. A lot of the machines have something minor wrong with them - a handle missing, the machine slightly off kilter, etc. And the lockers are pretty janky. I've seen multiple people have to ask for help to get them open. Plus there are a *ton* of signs saying don't put valuables in the lockers (lol, what's the point of lockers?), which makes me think they are easy to break into.

Clean facility with a free nearby covered garage that allows parking for 90 minutes with PF voucher. Friendly staff, and plenty of equipment. Has decent lockers and showers, although 10% of lockers seem broken at any time.

I'll start with the good stuff. This place is decently maintained as far as clenliness. The staff is available and useful when necessary. The negatives are most of the lockers in the ladies room aren't working. They are either already locked or disfunctional. As if someone is breaking into them, so I was hesitant in leaving my stuff in them. Without another option I was forced, but very uncomfortable doing so. Then the heat! I went for the first time in August. The AC cleary wasn't working. The windows weren't open so it smelt like old dusty arm pits and mold. The further back into the establishment you went the hotter it got. I wasn't even working out and I was sweating. So when I did start to work out I was dripping wet which made basic workouts seem impossible since I was slipping and sliding all over the place. Since i was doing strength training then i had to head to the farthest part of the gym that had little to no ventilation. I've never struggled with breathing indoors. But this place made it hard to even breathe with the heat. I usually go to other locations but this is a new one due to my new schedule. I hate how hot it is in there. I hope this get attended to sooner than later. They also lack adequate workout mats.

This is one of the best locations I’ve visited. The staff is friendly for the most part, the lockers are easy to use, the facility is well lit and very clean.

The place is really crowded but with ppl just chillin on the machines and not working out. A lot of the machines have little miscellaneous issues but easy to work around. Best time to go is very early in the morning when no one is there.
