I’m impressed! This is the closest gym to my house so I figured, why not give it a go. The staff are really friendly up front and the gym is super clean and spacious. They have a wide variety of equipment, nothing is falling apart. One thing I reallllly appreciate as a woman, is that all the glute/hamstring machines are tucked away in the back corner of the gym away from most people in the stretching section. I’m glad I signed up. The massage spa area is also spacious and clean.

9/2/2025 At approximately 9:31PM (21:21) an employee of the ivy city location began treating me very disrespectfully for no reason.
I was throwing away some old post workout food in the trash and cleaning the table when he told me to put food into the recycling bin. Then he told me to take off the lid of the bin because the hole was too small to fit my trash. I didn’t have gloves to handle the unsanitary recycling bin so I declined initially. (Also, food is for compost, not recycling)
Five minutes later after cleaning my space I asked to use the massage chair. He said I couldn’t use the massage chair because he didn’t like the fact that I didn’t use it earlier. I asked him why that was a problem and as a response he threatened to call security to have me escorted out. He then accused me of having been in and out of the building thirteen times that day. I said I had only been in and out twice. Once around lunch time and once that night. He knew I was a black card member as he had been present when I checked in earlier. I told him the cameras would verify this as well. He continued his aggressive behavior and his lack of reasoning led me to believe he might be mentally unstable. He continued to lie and threaten to kick me out for no reason. He refused to give his name but when I said I was leaving and calling the manager, an older employee with a Jamaican accent offered to assist me and I was allowed to use the massage chair. (Despite the fact that I was told it was out of order by the lying associate) They only gave me two minutes for the massage chair until I approached the older employee; (who was not even on shift) after which the lying employee and his coworker friend (not the older gentleman) complied begrudgingly.
The way I was treated was beyond unprofessional which is disappointing because I have been paying extra money monthly for black card membership to use the massage chair which I had not used until now.

This location is wonderful and conveniently situated. The only drawback is that the hydro-massage beds have been out of service for several days, and not all patrons clean the machines after use. However, the staff is diligent in their cleaning, which is a significant plus!

A wonderful and sparkling gym for everyone to enjoy! I did discover the way their business profile is set up, EVERYONE has to pay to TERMINATE their contract. When you leave the gym, your next 30 days are still due. I was going to allow my Care First to pay for my membership for the rest of my life, but don't like their policy, so never mind.

Amazing Facility with Amazing Personal Trainer & Fitness Classes!

This planet fitness is the best in the area!! The gym is specious, always clean and the front desk staff is always welcoming and helpful.

I really love working out here. I’ve been a regular for almost two years. I enjoy taking the group fitness classes. Unlike other group fitness classes these classes are not one size fits all. The trainer K is an all around fantastic trainer. He encourages, challenges, and motivates me. Most importantly he knows how to push you and get the best out of you.

The facility and equipment all look great, there is a large parking lot, and there was police presence that can make women feel safe walking out at night - it’s very close and convenient to those of us on the PG side bordering SE. This location was very well kept, neat and clean. The atmosphere was so calming to the point where you could literally sit down and enjoy a good conversation while enjoying a cool healthy drink. A young black dark skin young woman assisted me, who spoke with a slight accent. She was very pleasant and professional. Sorry for describing her this way but I forgot her name and I wanted to recognize her for a job well done, kudos to her.

When I joined this gym, it was wonderful, and I was excited about it opening up in my community. I have recently become disappointed because of the behavior of some of the members. I, along with others, consider changing gyms. I have complained about members saving machines. Several members will place a tower on one machine, a water bottle on another machine, and be working out on another machine. Staff seems not to know how to handle this situation. I have seen other members be intimated by the rude members. If this continues to be unaddressed, I will be closing my membership

Penn branch planet fitness is very friendly! All staff members and I mean ALL STAFF members are respectful and go out their way to satisfy anyone. I rate this planet fitness a 10. One of the only planet fitness I’ve been to and have no problem with nothing. Never no line when entering. Worst location ever! I showed up with my mom who is a Black Card owner to sign is as a guest. The front desk associate Jim said everything was fine and processed my card for a lock rental. My mom proceeded on her way as she thought everything was OKAY, since the front desk associate Jim assured me. As I am working out, another associate comes up to me and says that I have to leave. I asked why and she said “because you’re not the Black Card owner.” I gathered my things and as I proceeded to leave I asked Jim why didn’t he tell me that I wouldn’t be able to workout in the first place but he did not acknowledge me. That was very misleading of him and inconsiderate. I had to wait outside in the heat for my mom to come all the way back to this location. I then called multiple times to speak to a manager but there was always an excuse. Finally, the manager called back only to tell me that a refund would not be able to be processed. I don’t care if it was only $1.06, it’s the principle. He should’ve never went against policy and then make the guest suffer the consequences. Poor management and poor customer service. I’ll never go back here. Downtown is the way to go or private gyms!!

Safety first!
While the location is convenient and spacious; the equipment is a hazard as I have nicked my fingers and legs on broken equipment. I’ve visited this location a few times this month between the hours of 2am-5am, and each time Kelsey was behind the desk working. His customer service has been excellent despite the time of day. Other facilities that I’ve visited in the past, the worker had visible sleep in their face and lacked mannerisms, as if I disturbed their slumber. Not over here. This young man’s is bright eyed and bushy tailed, which is remarkable. It’s speaks highly to his position here at Planet Fitness. He was the first point of contact each time I’ve visited and that’s important because anyone could walk in. Nothing gets past him. The gym is well maintained and the locker rooms are kept clean, not even a piece of hair or the shower walls. Trust me, I looked. I’m quite impressed to know that work is done on the graveyard shift. He wears three hats; security guard, customer service representative/concierge, and janitor/housekeeper. What’s notable is that he’s already caught on to my patterns with respect to the hydro massage beds. I don’t even have to get up and go to the desk to let him know to restart my time. He pops his head in at the end of ten minutes and asks if I want to go again. Why are the massages only ten minutes? Great job Kelsey. I can’t get a good game of Tetris in nor can I read the books installed on the screen. I wish I could give this facility a higher rating but the equipment is hazardous. The black card membership is a little high for poor equipment.

The staff is friendly and welcoming. This gym is totally clean every time I go anytime a day they are always mopping cleaning and refilling the bottles that you use to wipe down equipment. Hand sanitizer is always available everywhere. They are always in mask. Now that the mask law has changed I really feel safe.

This morning i was harassed by a male worker at planet fitness around 1am. I wanted to get a nice workout in when the gym would be empty and he harassed me the ENTIRE 30 minutes i was there. I left so fast because he would not stop bothering me. He first said “ i’m free i could help you workout ” i politely said no thank you and he continued to harass me. Every machine i went to he continuously harassed me. I left to get inside of my uber and he ran outside after me to continue to make me feel uncomfortable. He asked for my number and after i denied him again he finally went back inside. 0/10 experience. People should be able to workout whenever they want without sexual harassment.

I am 78 years old and was going to the physical therapist, when I started going to planet fitness not only did my knee get better muscles developed, I loss weight, but the open and close abductors strengthened area that the physical therapist didn't help, planet fitness gave me the muscles all over especially in the quads, hamstrings, hips, glutes, calves, stomach/abs, and I was able to join in the group sections as well, the huge area gave me options to just walk, and the tremendous cardio equipment options are simply amazing, I come with my cane and my neighbor comes with her walker, we met a man working out there who was 90 years old, amazing!! Planet Fitness is beyond compare! and is unlimited ways to help all of us get better physically. Thank you Planet Fitness for making me look better and feel Great! at 78, and I can go day or night, it works around my schedule and time.

Why does equipment stay broken for months? Planet fitness is a billion dollar company. It should only take about a week to fix broken equipment, not 2-4 months. I’m not even talking about a big piece of Equipment or Machine.

I want to start by saying the staff here are PHENOMENAL. Friendly, welcoming and engaging with customers. Gym is always extremely sanitary and constantly being cleaned and organized.

But I’ve been coming here for a couple of years now and the equipment is completely worn down and breaking all the time. Pads are worn and cracking, plastic on the machines is chipped or cracked and “out of service” signs stay on the same equipment for months at a time. Cable operated Machines need oiling or something to make them run smoothly. Weight plates are far and few between, we’re all fighting for them even when the gym is almost empty. Not a single piece of an equipment has been replaced in the time I’ve come here. Definitely losing interest in coming here.
