I am forever grateful to be part of this community. Morgan is so welcoming and encouraging. Although I've had to stop working out due to some physical and ongoing health reasons, 2025 is my comeback year. I look forward to and miss squats.

Just a flat out amazing experience here, and that cannot be understated. If you are looking for well thought-out workouts, expert trainers who understand YOUR needs, and an unbeatable community this place is absolutely for you. Here you will not find a macho-man or competitive atmosphere but that does not mean there is not a community here to push you and drive you forward to self improvement. In that sense, you will see where this Crossfit Box outshines all others in the area, celebrating everyone's personal accomplishments and growth! The facility is ALWAYS in amazing shape, clean, and accommodating. I truly recommend Second Wind Crossfit! Always a 10 out of 10 experience.

I have been Crossfitting on and off since ~2009 and have been a longterm member of 6 different CrossFits in California and DC (and I have visited dozens of others). I am also objectively *not* good at CrossFit, I have a ton of injuries and physical limitations, and I don’t enjoy exercise. (Yes, I know that’s blasphemy, but I really don’t.)
All of that said, I have been impressed by the high level of coaching and expertise at this CrossFit… the coaching is comparable to (and sometimes better than) the coaching I have seen and experienced at some of the well-known CrossFit “boxes” (gyms) on the west coast and far better than any coaching I have experienced at other DC CrossFits. The coaches, particularly Morgan and Lay, are excellent at modifying workouts for injuries and physical limitations, but also great at challenging folks who are competitive at CrossFit. They are also particularly skilled at breaking down and cueing some of the more challenging aspects of CrossFit, like Olympic lifts.
My only complaint is that the lack of afternoon classes in the second half of each week often makes it hard for me to get in for workouts as often as I would like… but that’s probably more of a personal problem than a problem with this gym.

I have been going to Second Wind CrossFit for about 8 or so years whenever I am in town. Here’s what keeps me coming back:
1. The coaches are amazing - knowledgeable, perceptive, attentive and friendly. I have always picked up something new (even after almost 10 yrs of CrossFit and visiting a ton of gyms).
2. The community is really friendly, diverse and open. People genuinely seem interested in supporting each other, even drop-ins like me.
3. Morgan, the rock star! She is an amazing coach with an eye for all the important aspects of fitness, not just movement & nutrition. Her humor and perfect mix of tips and thought-provoking questions have helped me to develop better goals and more accountability to myself. What I learned from her has stuck with me, now 2 years after our online coaching sessions.
I would certainly give Second Wind an “above and beyond” award!

I've been back in DC for about a week now and the Second Wind Crossfit community has been awesome! Really like the coaching, time flexibility for classes and they way members cheer each other on during workouts. 10/10, would recommend for a drop in, or for a regular membership.

If you are thinking about trying out strength training and you've been wondering if crossfit is for you, try Second Wind. Just sign up for Foundations to see what it's about. I'm now three months in and really love it.
I never did anything like this before. I was so nervous about the whole scene and mostly petrified about hurting myself. The members are welcoming and no one cares that I'm out of shape and can't do a pull up. The trainers/coaches there make it hard for you to hurt yourself with their recommendations to adapt workouts.
I'm so glad to have access to Second Wind. It's been an awakening in learning about getting stronger. Thank you to the kind people (especially the coaches) who make it a vibrant community.

Second Wind has had a profound impact on my life since I joined two years ago. This is the first "gym"/box that I have ever enjoyed going to on a regular basis. The want/need to improve my health got me in the door; the coaches, programming, and people/atmopshere kept me going!
I also want to give 5 stars to the nutrition coaching with Morgan. I recently completed a 30-day nutrition challenge that helped turn around my eating habits amid COVID. Morgan is an amazing fitness and nutrition coach. She'll help you define your goals and patiently work with you to get to where you want to be.

This review is two-fold: excellent fitness coaching and impactful nutritional coaching.
First, this gym is like a home away from home. The atmosphere is so collegial and the coaching is amazing. I walked into second wind on my 33rd birthday, 9 months postpartum from my second baby never having done ANYTHING remotely athletic in my entire life. It's been a 180 turn for me. My perception of my body and my capability - my entire self-esteem has changed so much.
I recently had the opportunity to engage in a 30-day nutrition challenge with Morgan. The one-on-one coaching, the team support model, and the awesome seminars made a huge impact on me. Now, I'm eating cleaner than ever and have skills that I've carried into the rest of my life as well (who knew how important having a clear schedule for self-care is?!). It also helped me reevaluate my own goals as they relate to nutrition, and find a less stressful relationship with food.
I'm so thankful for the anchor that Second Wind has become in my life and how my quality of life has improved since walking through those doors!

Great coaches. The other athletes are friendly, supportive, and motivating. And the Cross Fit classes were a good mix of challenging and exhilarating. You're definitely pushed to do more, try harder, and reach your goals here, but while at the same time being given great instruction on how to do it safely and scale down if necessary.
It's a small box, but they maximize the space and make it work.
My only wish would be for a few more BootCamp classes to balance out all that heavy lifting with a little more cardio during the week.

Coming up on two years of being a member and love the supportive and inviting community at Second Wind! The gym is nice and bright because it's located on street-level and has windows on two sides. There's plenty of free street parking and a bus stop literally in front of the gym, so you really don't have an excuse not to go.

Swung by for a drop in. Cozy box, but all the equipment you need to get a good sweat in. Everyone at the 7am was super friendly. Has nice restrooms with showers too.

I've been working out at Second Wind CrossFit for a little more than a year and I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience.
I've been a gym rat for 15+ years and grew tired of the big box gyms. I also felt like I hit a plateau and found that I knew as much, if not more than the trainers in the big box gyms.
Steve Dolge, is knowledgeable, personable and ensures that you are challenged every time you're in class. He's also a good resource for nutritional tips.
The Second Wind team includes his wife, Michelle who is just as awesome, Colby, a CrossFit BEAST and a strong cadre of CrossFit instructors continues to grow.
If you're looking for a great workout, personable and knowledgeable trainers and a great workout in a short amount of time, this is the place to go.
