For a gym charging a premium of $145 a month, my experience was a huge letdown. Day pass is $45. Steam room is out of service. I spent about five hours at the Yards location this week to thoroughly evaluate it before committing as I’ve been getting spammed in the mail, and I'm glad I did. The staff's attitude was consistently condescending, from the Senior Membership Advisor (Saad Siddiqui) to the people at front desk.

My main issue how the staff addressed my comment about the soft flooring in the free-weight area, which is completely unsuitable for barbell squats. When I brought this up, the staff condescendingly told me to just use the Smith machine or use the Olympic platform, completely dismissing a valid safety concern.

There was a Titan Fitness safety squat bar (SSB) that I had no idea how much it weighed. I asked two person trainers (you’ll see PT and their clients everywhere in the gym) how much the bar weighed. The PTs said they had no idea and left it at that. The front desk staff was equally apathetic.

I’ve had better customer service at Planet Fitness for a tiny fraction of the cost. This place is motivated about locking you into their membership plan and signing you up to the many classes and services they offer. This place is not it and I highly recommend looking elsewhere in the DC area.

Disappointing Decline Over the Years – Not Worth the Premium

I’ve been a member of Vida Fitness Navy Yard since 2020, and unfortunately, the quality has gone steadily downhill. What used to be a promising fitness studio has now become a frustrating experience filled with broken promises and even more broken equipment.

The equipment is rarely maintained properly — anything that breaks down stays out of service for weeks. The fourth Peloton, for example, was broken for ages and now seems to have been permanently removed with no explanation. Unless you’re going to the U Street location, expect to deal with second-tier machines despite being charged an annual equipment improvement fee.

The cleanliness and amenities are equally disappointing. If you’re working out during peak hours or on the weekend, be prepared to bring your own toilet paper or paper towels — they’re constantly out. Towels are a gamble — if you get one, consider yourself lucky.

The staff is unengaged at best. Rather than offering help or even acknowledging members, they’re often glued to their phones or huddled in corners chatting with each other. There’s a noticeable lack of attentiveness and professionalism across the board.

To top it off, their guest pass policy is baffling — just two free guest passes for life. I’ve been a loyal member for five years, including through COVID and the difficult DMV economic climate. How does that loyalty get rewarded? Apparently, with broken bikes, no paper towels, and disinterested staff.

Vida Navy Yard is charging premium prices for subpar service. Unless serious changes are made, I can’t recommend this gym to anyone looking for a consistent or high-quality fitness experience.

I joined VIDA about two months ago from a much smaller, strength training gym and have been absolutely LOVING it! Facilities are always well maintained and clean, staff is incredibly nice and the gym has everything you need. The sauna and steam room are a perfect way to unwind and the smoothies from the downstairs bar are actually delicious. I have zero complaints.

Also need to give a special shoutout to my personal trainer Katherine who's amazing at what she does. She provides clear instruction, always makes sure my form is correct, and is super encouraging/motivating which I need in a PT! Plus, she's a great person to be around. Highly recommend working with her and joining this gym!

MAJOR concern with Vida’s recent direction. I’ve been a member of Vida Yards for over 7 years. It has been fine until recently. Personal trainers started closing off large parts of the regular gym floor during Sat/Sun mornings, making it more difficult to be a regular gym goer. This is for PAID CLASSES outside of the three existing class studios.

Vida management is clearly making the experience for regular members worse to make more money from paid classes. I beg Vida corporate to keep classes off the gym floor and in the gym classrooms.

I cannot recommend personal trainer, Katherine Lemus highly enough! As a 49-year-old woman navigating the world of fitness, I found her approach to be outstandingly patient and attentive. She took the time to listen to my specific fitness goals, preferences, and any limitations I had, ensuring that every exercise and routine we incorporated was tailored to my needs. It made all the difference knowing that I had someone who truly cared about my progress.

What I appreciated most was her friendly demeanor and supportive feedback. Unlike some trainers who might adopt a “drill sergeant” style, she creates a positive and encouraging environment that enabled me to thrive. Instead of feeling pressured, I’ve felt supported every step of the way, which has made working out a joyful experience rather than a chore.

Thanks to her expertise and thoughtful guidance, I have seen fantastic results. I feel stronger, more confident, and more energetic than I have in years! Her effective routines are not only enjoyable, but they also challenge me at just the right level.

If you're looking for a personal trainer who is dedicated, knowledgeable, and truly invested in your fitness journey, I wholeheartedly recommend Katherine . She has completely transformed my approach to fitness, and I’m confident she can do the same for anyone else!

Staff is always very friendly and the space is quite nice. The only thing stopping this from being 5 stars is the parking garage being difficult to navigate at times and the parking toll malfunctioning from time to time. Probably nothing to blame the gym for but needs to be taken into consideration.

I never leave reviews but I feel I have to for other peoples personal safety. For the third time recently I had someone looking in on me as I was taking a shower. I am in no way homophobic. To each their own but I am a straight man and certainly do not like men peaking through the shower curtain at me. I rarely go to the gym anymore because of this and when I do I get out of the locker room as quickly as possible. It’s to the point I fear some of them may try something like you see on Shawshank Redemption. I will be cancelling my membership ASAP.

After spending time as a member at Vida Fitness, I’ve found that while the gym offers a variety of amenities, its failure to enforce basic rules seriously detracts from the overall experience. The most glaring issue is the rampant disregard for the gym’s rules, particularly regarding cell phone use, and the management’s complete lack of enforcement. Signs are posted to discourage cell phone use in spaces like the cardio area and sauna, but they are small, easy to miss, and widely ignored by members. This creates a disruptive environment, whether you’re trying to focus on a workout or relax in the sauna. Despite multiple complaints to the front desk, the staff and management have consistently failed to take action, leaving members feeling unheard and frustrated.

This lack of rule enforcement sets the tone for a facility that often feels poorly managed. For example, the steam room is frequently out of order, sometimes for extended periods of time, without updates or clear communication about when it will be fixed. When it is operational, the steam room and sauna are not consistently cleaned as promised, despite signs claiming daily cleanings at 10 a.m. These spaces often feel neglected, which is disappointing for a gym that positions itself as a premium fitness center.

The rule-breaking isn’t limited to cell phone use. In group classes, the music is played at an ear-splitting volume, creating an unhealthy environment that forces some participants to wear earplugs. The lack of sound insulation in the cardio area means this noise spills over, disrupting workouts for members not participating in the class.

Adding to these frustrations is the inconsistency in basic amenities. Towels provided to members are often torn or frayed, and small workout towels are occasionally unavailable, which can be a hassle during busy hours. These small but frequent inconveniences make it hard to see the value in the high membership fees.

Ultimately, Vida Fitness fails to live up to its premium price tag because of its poorly enforced rules, inattentive management, and ongoing facility issues. While it has the potential to be a standout gym, these recurring problems create an environment that feels more chaotic than professional. Until management takes member concerns seriously and enforces its rules, it’s difficult to recommend Vida Fitness to anyone looking for a truly premium gym experience.

Response
Thank you for your response, but I find it amusing how you’ve managed to twist the core issue of rule enforcement into a personal attack on my character. Your attempt to frame me as the problem here is both unprofessional and, frankly, absurd. If your staff were truly "trained to address such issues directly," I wouldn't have had to bring the matter up repeatedly, let alone witness the ongoing chaos caused by the blatant disregard of your own rules. The fact that cell phone use and other disruptive behaviors are rampant proves that your policies are little more than window dressing.

VIDA’s response here only reinforces my original point: you have rules you don’t enforce, staff who don’t take complaints seriously, and management more interested in deflecting blame than addressing legitimate concerns. Your “positive atmosphere” is nothing more than a façade, and your handling of this situation proves it. I appreciate the follow-up you’ve offered, but I’ll save us both the time: until you take accountability and enforce the rules, your response is as meaningless as those tiny, ignored “No Cell Phone” signs in your gym.

I've been a member for close to 3 years.

Multiple water fountains have weak, warm streams and don't get fixed for months if at all, the ceiling at one point leaked for weeks in the middle of the free weights area, and random power outages shut the entire gym down without notice. The saunas explicitly state that shoes are not allowed, but you'll often see Vida staff members in there wearing their shoes, which is disgusting. The parking garage is often so full of cars that people start parking illegally and block other cars and the bike rack. At one point they were about to install cameras in the locker room and only canceled that plan after the obvious ridicule and backlash they received.

When I joined I was told my membership dues would never increase and finally decided to cancel when they notified me that they would in fact be increasing my dues. I visited the Capitol Hill Gold's Gym and the membership is less than half the price and the facilities are more than sufficient.

Honestly, the gym is fine for the most part. But at the price points offered the value proposition simply isn't worth it.

I have been to two locations (U street and Navy Yard) to determine which is a better fit. While Navy Yard has a “fancier” pool deck, the customer service person that haunts that area, “Mary”, needs an attitude check. The quality of service otherwise is 5 stars - Taylor was particularly polite and helpful, as well as her other team members. Mary however, could stand to work on her manners.

The gym is beautiful, however while we were signing up we were mislead about how much parking costs (which was a huge factor for us signing up) and other services such as the spa and nutritionist showed up late for scheduled appointments. For the amount of money we are paying, I am a little disappointed the services are not top notch and sloppy.

I recently visited Vida The Yards and had the pleasure of experiencing exceptional customer service, thanks to Ben Aparicio, the Assistant General Manager. While many gyms offer similar equipment and facilities, it’s the level of service that truly sets one apart, and Ben has undoubtedly made Vida The Yards stand out.

From the moment I walked in, Ben's friendly and professional demeanor made me feel welcomed. He went above and beyond to assist with any questions and made sure my visit was perfect. His dedication to customer satisfaction is evident, and it truly makes a difference.

I often travel to DC and usually get day passes for various gyms. While I used to frequent VIDA - U Street, my experience at VIDA - The Yards, thanks to Ben, has changed my preference. From now on, I will always make sure to work out at VIDA - The Yards. Ben's outstanding customer service has made me a loyal promoter of this gym. Highly recommend!

Heartless Corporate Greed - Yes, I'm Still Salty.

I am utterly disappointed and appalled by my experience with Vida Fitness. A week after signing up and spending hundreds of dollars, my work situation changed drastically. My boss assigned me a new account that required extensive travel, making it impossible for me to use the gym. I reached out to Vida Fitness to explain my situation, hoping for a bit of understanding and humanity.

To my dismay, Vida Fitness refused to cancel my membership. Despite never stepping foot in the gym, they ruthlessly sent my account to collections. I could almost understand if I had used the facilities, but this was clearly an extenuating circumstance, explained to them only a week after joining.

Vida Fitness proved to be nothing more than a typical corporate box with no heart or pulse. Instead of showing compassion, they chose to prioritize their bottom line over genuine customer service. Now, I am being hounded by bill collectors for a couple thousand dollars for a membership I never utilized.

This experience is a quintessential case of American greed, where profits come before people. I would caution anyone considering Vida Fitness to think twice about joining a place that lacks basic decency and compassion. Choose a gym that values its members as humans, not just as sources of revenue.

TLDR: Vida Fitness is greedy and petty.

ETA; I was not offered a 15 day window to cancel my membership and have the text messages to prove this.

When I immediately contacted the office, my calls were rerouted to some enforcer in HQ who told me their hands were tied. I asked to cancel the same week I signed up I was told no, and that the best I could do was downgrade to virtual.

I hate gym drama. That’s why I’m so cautious with gym contracts because they can be notoriously slimy even in extenuating circumstance. Ridiculous.

I had an exceptional experience at Vida Fitness today, thanks to the outstanding customer service provided by Marvin and the manager, Stephanie Weaver. Marvin swiftly and effectively resolved my concern, demonstrating high professionalism and dedication to customer satisfaction. Stephanie Weaver's attention to detail and commitment to addressing my needs further enhanced my visit.

Having visited several other Vida Fitness locations recently, I can confidently say that this particular experience at this location stands out as the best by far. The staff members were attentive and responsive and indeed went above and beyond to ensure a positive experience for me as a customer. I highly recommend this Vida Fitness location for anyone seeking exceptional service and a welcoming environment.

I’ve been going to VIDA Off and
on for five years since living in Navy Yard and I ended my membership today. First, there’s no guarantee that you will have a warm shower. It’s usually cold. After months of complaints, It seems that Management is reluctant to fix the issue due to cost. Mind you the membership starts at $140 a month. Regardless of grievances or concerns, the management is often very reluctant to acknowledge concerns, have persistent attitudes, and are quite nasty When those grievances are communicated. VIDA does not control the parking lot and therefore there are persistent issues with parking members consistently block spots but when management is asked to get involved they refuse stating that they don’t manage the parking lot and they won’t get involved. Aside from that the locker rooms have salt stains on the ground from leakages And the hydrotherapy machines are never more than 10% functional. The customer service is lacking and the facilities need to be updated.

I've been coming to this VIDA location for three years now, and I've been a huge fan. It has a large scope of equipment, with a good amount of powerlifting equipment & power racks, and pretty frequent classes w/ what seems like high attendance. Staff are friendly & available, and there's a ton of extra services ranging from spa treatments to water massage recovery. I generally try to avoid the peak times (6-8PM), but even during those bits you can still get a good workout if you're willing to adapt a bit.

After a year of membership, the value wasn't there. The customer experience was horrible, and it started the second you enter the property from the garage. The validation machine has been broken more than 90 days, coupled with the garage and building's neglect by the building owners. The asset managers refuse to make needed CapEx improvements, which has impacted the experience of gym users. Once you're in the gym, the experience is lack luster. The equipment was often broken. I just canceled and would love recommdations for a better fitness experience.
I reached out to management and was given the card of Ben Rothkin, and was told I would receive an email to memorialize my grievances, and never received a follow up or response. The responsiveness to this post was uncharacteristically to the response received when I called and came to the facility.

Its a fine gym, however, the gym is supposed to open at 500am during the week. About three times a year no one shows up. If you're an early riser, I'd recommend going somewhere a little reliable.

They have an app which the gym uses to notify members of pool closures, repairs or whatever. I have to see them send out a.late opening alert. It doesn't speak well of their respect for members' time.

Edit: it's 5:30am, August 15th, 2022. Gym isn't open yet. Have to leave, and though I appreciate the responce below, it rings a little hollow.

BUYER BEWARE. Would give 0 stars if possible. I read in reviews that this gym closed during Covid and continued to charge its members it's full monthly membership price despite being unable to use the gym for several months, and refused to let people cancel their memberships. I thought this could not be true, so I joined the gym. After I left DC I submitted according to the contract that I signed a valid cancellation and was continued to be charged past my cancellation date despite following the guidelines of THEIR contract. I filed a dispute with my credit card company regarding the charges and Vida continued to LIE to my card company about when I had submitted my cancellation request, even going so far as to say I contacted them with my cancellation far after I had moved halfway across the country and was no longer eligible to use the gym. This gym obviously has no respect or regard for its members and does not even follow their own contract. STAY AWAY. Don’t be fooled by the high Google review rating. Check Yelp. Others have stated similar issues there as well.

Parking is very problematic after 3pm and routinely cars are double parked in the lot. Limited street parking and the larger lot at the grocery store doesn’t honor cross validation so you’ll end up missing a lot of workouts if your plan is to drive after work.

Perhaps the worst gym in the entirety of DC. The equipment is rarely racked correctly, the locker room is dirty and the staff is rude and feels inconvenienced by your presence.

Additionally, they are requiring boosters as entire countries (the UK) is rolling back their mandates. I guess Vida's PH professionals know more than the UK's? That is very interesting. I would encourage not joining this gym and either working out in an apt gym or if that is not available finding transportation to another gym. Be careful! Dishonest business practices. After being told I cancelled, I was told it did not go through and despite never going to the gym was billed for another 4 months. I then went back to the gym and was told you can't cancel in person because it requires a hard copy form and they are only digital. You can sign up digitally. I then gave them a signed cancellation form. A month later I was told it wasn't process because a new charge had occurred during the preceding period. I then went online paid the balance and sent the general manager a confirmation email. Then when I asked for confirmation of my separation later I was told that they decided to keep billing me because they said despite having a confirmation email they thought there might have been a 'bank reversal'. Then after trying to contact them again was told their assistant manager quit and so there was only one person on the planet that could cancel a membership so I would have to work around his schedule. In 20 years of gym memberships I have NEVER seen such a dishonest and ineffective system. Stay away!

Started out with great management staff & gradually has declined. VIP rooftop which I paid extra became am employee friends and family gathering spot. On my lone visit last summer I had a salad from sweetgreen. Clearly visible the front desk checked me in, the VIP roof top host checked me in with salad in hand. I get a poolside chair start eating my salad my server comes over and takes my drink order. About 10 minutes later some young woman comes over and without introduction proceeds to aggressively inform me of the policy in regards to outside food. When I correct her and try to advise her how she should 1st introduce herself before she starts correcting a paying member of Vida she gets offended. About 3 hours later the manager Colleen Paloma comes and asks to have a word with me. Long story short in was asked to leave. Reason is I "said something offensive" to the woman who approached me that I corrected. Ms. Paloma refused to tell me what it was that I said that was offensive. When I asked how long was I being banned from the Vida she informed me someone would contact me. I then asked her to cancel my membership which she was more than happy to do. I still have not been contacted by anyone from Vida fitness in regards to this incident.

VIDA Fitness is one of the more affordable gyms (still not as cheap as the $10 a month Planet Fitness fee, but much cheaper than Orange Theory, Crossfit, etc) in DC. This location is in Navy Yard just a few blocks from the Navy Yard Metro.

The gym itself is nice, clean, and well laid out. The lobby is on the first floor with two levels of free weights, machines, and studios above it. The penthouse houses the rooftop pool that's very popular in the summer.

There's a main studio on the second floor with better-than-normal classes like bootcamp, hiit, and other classes. The locker rooms are on the third floor with a small sauna, steam room, and towel service.

The staff are friendly and helpful.

The gym may seem pricey, but I think it's worth it. I did personal training all summer with Push (give him a pay raise). He's great, and in general, the staff was always friendly and helpful. You can bring your friends up to the pool on the weekend. The pool drinks and food are excellent. There are occasionally parties on the roof, e.g., during pride. The gym never felt intimidating.

Also, those showers are A+... they'll change you.

Note: there are two ways to enter. You can either enter through the vida/harris teter parking underground or through the entrance past sweetgreen facing the river.

Beautiful but expensive gym. You have to pay for parking - it is validated, but you'll still pay something. There’s a rooftop pool but only open to members at certain times of the day unless you’re willing to pay extra. If you’re gonna go to any class, look up Kelly Moyers! Anything she teaches is amazing! You won’t regret it.

This is the closest a fitness facility will get to EOR (East of the River) at this time. Keep in mind that it is a luxury fitness club.

Gym wasn't bad. The problem was that after my contract ended, the gym decided to keep billing my credit card. Then after MONTHS of trying to get them to stop billing me they said the charges would stand and that there was nothing they could do about it. It's ok--check out the BBB scores for VIDA online. F for a reason. I filed a complaint and got my money back through my credit card. They admitted in writing that my contract was over but did nothing to remedy the situation--downright rude about it. Stay away. Gym is scum.

I was a Vida member at various locations for 3 years. I never had an issue with the facilities (aside from City Vista), any of the staff or personal trainers... until I tried to cancel my membership.

I'm the type of person that takes the time to read contracts I sign, especially when I know how often people have trouble cancelling gym memberships. I was a month to month member, and I fully understand that I needed to provide 30 days written notice to cancel.

My April dues were billed on 4/4. I called to find out how to cancel my membership and was told I needed to send back a completed cancellation form, and that they are lenient within a day or two of the 30 days notice. I filled out the form and sent it back on 4/5 - the general manager, Dan Andrews, acknowledged receipt of my information and told me Jaramis would handle everything from here.

I never heard anything from him... but on 5/5 I saw a charge for May dues. I called VIDA to speak to someone and I was told the membership advisor was out because of an emergency and the manager was out on vacation. Assuming I was getting the run around, I contacted my credit card company and disputed the charge. I then sent Jaramis a follow up email letting him know what happened and that AmEx would be handling everything going forward. He responded on 5/6 apologizing for dropping the ball and said he's closed my account.

A few days later, AmEx got back to me and told me the dispute was resolved in Vidas favor. They were citing that I cancelled my membership on 5/5... which fell short of the required noticed. I submitted all correspondence between Vida and myself to AmEx for further investigation including my original cancellation dated 4/5. AmEx responds to me telling me that VIDA is citing my cancellation date as 5/5. We ended up having to settle the issue as a fraud charge because Vida was submitting false documentation which resulted in me getting a new credit card number and having to update all billing with other companies... After the second issue, I contacted the general manager Dan Andrews, asking for a response from him as Jaramis clearly wasn't helpful... I have not heard back from Mr Andrews.

Again, I never had an issue with VIDA in 3 years... except for when I tried to cancel... just make sure you save all correspondence with them... and I'd advise having your monthly dues taken from a credit card... that provides a little bit more protection than having it withdrawn from your checking account...

My favorite gym in DC. All the equipment is new and functional. I attend a lot of classes and I've found them all engaging, challenging and fun. The staff is super friendly too. After your workout is done, the locker rooms have everything you need including a steam room, a sauna and nice shower products. Great place.
