I’ve been going to this gym casually since November of last year and I just joined full time. I can’t say enough good things about the quality of the workouts and instructors. In just a short period, I feel a difference in my overall fitness level and feel more confident during my workouts. The classes also feel like personal training sessions and challenge me so much.

WØRK really levels up the DC fitness scene. The programming is always on point and the coaches and community are great. It’s the perfect blend of true strength training, conditioning, and speed and agility class formats.

I love WORK!!! the programming is incredible, community is welcoming, all the coaches are amazing, and I genuinely have a great time every time I'm there.

The workouts are HARD (in a good way) and include a comprehensive warm-up, which is so important and a lot of other gyms lack. Programming is solid, with emphasis on progressive overload and workouts split into push/pull which, imo, is more effective than upper/lower. The coaches there genuinely want you to get stronger, and it shows.

What I especially appreciate about this gym is how it fosters a safe and positive space for the DC community. They also do a phenomenal job hosting community events and workshops on relevant topics that really make an impact.

Special shout out to Katie, Burns & Nyssa - they rock.

As a 50+ year old woman who has never done sustained strength training and was nervous about beginning - Wørk, from my initial contact to my now one-year-later (much) stronger self, has been an amazing partner for my journey! I am grateful for the coaches’ kindness (adapting exercises as needed as I built more strength) with a bit of “you can do more” at the right time which has pushed boundaries of what I thought was possible for myself. The other athletes are incredibly supportive - no matter where you are on your fitness journey! I leave each class inspired - and stronger! I am delighted Wørk is a part of the vibrant Union Market and Gallaudet area and look forward to the athlete community continuing to grow!

The best decision I have made for my fitness and health has been to join WORK! The owners, instructors, and community are first class. I have never experienced this type of functional workout before and have made incredible gains in only a few months. I recommend this studio to anyone, but especially anyone who plays other sports that wants to prevent injury and play better!

I feel so lucky to have found WØRK last fall. I was looking for weight-training focused workouts that pushed me hard but didn't compromise on the importance of good form and staying injury free. WØRK met and exceeded my expectations. Each class starts with a demo of the workout and detailed guidance about how to do each exercise properly. You'll definitely get your a$$ kicked but how hard you push yourself is up to you -- there's only positive encouragement and friendly competition. And, the community is incredible: if you're not working, you're cheering!

Hands down one of the best gyms in the area! I drive from Annapolis for classes and it's SO worth it! The trainers are knowledgeable, supportive, and truly invested in helping members reach their fitness goals.

What sets this gym apart is the community—it’s a welcoming and motivating space where everyone, from beginners to seasoned athletes, feels comfortable, safe, supported, and encouraged. The group classes and community work outs are so much fun and benefit so many great causes and organizations in the DC area. Highly recommend!

As a resident of Gables Union Market, I can’t say enough great things about this fitness studio! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and included—regardless of my fitness level. Whether you're a complete beginner or someone with experience, the coaches meet you where you are and guide you with patience, knowledge, and encouragement. Their expertise is unmatched, and they take the time to ensure you’re moving safely while pushing you toward your goals.

What truly sets this gym apart is the amazing community. Everyone is so supportive, cheering each other on and celebrating wins—big or small. It’s an environment where you feel motivated, inspired, and genuinely part of something special. I’ve not only gained strength and confidence but also connected with an incredible group of people.

If you're looking for a gym where you'll feel empowered, supported, and challenged in the best way possible, this is definitely the place! Highly recommend! 💪🏾👏🏾

This gym is truly the worst. They begin classes at 6:30 a.m. or so, and for anyone living at Gables, it sounds like the entire building is about to collapse--the walls even vibrate from whatever they are doing in there. EDENS was supposed to have them soundproof their space, but that was months ago and there has been no progress. I have also witnessed the gym owners acting like they own the building lobby and that the Gables concierge staff work for them 🙄 Everyone involved in this space just seems so rude.

I attended my first work DC class today and I will definitely be back to try more. I recommend you check it out as well. The space was clean and very organized, not too big so you don’t have to worry about getting lost and you’re able to see your fellow workout mates grinding it out alongside you. I love the pre-workout demonstration and explanation of the exercises and how they relate to the particular theme of the class, which the one I attended today was PUSH (they use their friendly website does a good job with the descriptions classes offered as well) Coach Monica Jones did a great job, facilitating the workout experience today, maneuvering around the room, ensuring that we are using proper form and/or provided real time feed back if we needed to dial it back, or turn it up more based on our effort. I really appreciated the push today, no pun intended look forward to checking out this fitness a lot more. If you are looking for a focused, good vibes, and encouraging environment grow in your strength and conditioning I definitely recommend checking out Work DC in Union Market.

I began taking classes two years ago when they were held outside near my home. They are fantastic! I am new to strength training and have learned a great deal since I began. I feel wonderful after leaving workouts with Katie and Burns. The DC area is lucky to have them!!!

I want to add, weeks after writing the above, that Coach Katie and Coach Burns’ classes make me crave more and more good things for me. I want to move more, I want to eat better, and I am doing both! I want to do the things I know are good for me and less of the things that aren’t. Excellent and grateful.

I was recommended this gym by my friend who is a PT and soccer player (who by the way takes these classes religiously and crushes it on the soccer field and is jacked from these workouts)…meaning I knew this was going to be a legit work-out. Today I had the pleasure of taking my first class (why can you not be in VA!!) and it was everything I have ever wanted in a workout. This is far superior to Barry’s, OTF, F45, MadBolic etc. the workouts are well thought out, fun and achievable for folks of all fitness levels. The coaches genuinely care about form to prevent injury and encourage mobility and strength. This is the best group fitness class I have ever taken and I look forward to continuing to trek to DC (from Alexandria) to participate.

What an obnoxious, disrespectful establishment. This place continues to completely ruin the entire living experience at Gables by overruning the outdoor spaces with their workouts. They blast and amplify music at an insane volume BEFORE 7AM, as if they own the entire area. Full blown DJ set up and loud speakers—completely illegal.

The nuisance they're causing to residents of Gables and the entire neighborhood—who have a right to peaceful enjoyment of their homes—is indescribably harmful; and they do not care.

I will continue reporting the violations until something is done. But if you're looking to live in this otherwise great building where Work is, just beware! They will not hesitate to stomp all over your rights to peaceful enjoyment of your home.

I was so stoked to support a sapphic-owned gym, and one that's around the corner from my apartment. While Katie is an excellent trainer, and as many of the reviews illustrate, the programming is great, I had to discontinue my membership due to the unprofessionalism and incivility of her partner, Burns.

Burns was rude, curt, bossy, and disrespectful in one of the first classes I took with her. After class, when I tried to talk with her about the issue, she continued this attitude. And every class thereafter, she ignored me, refusing to cheer me on, give me tips on form, or otherwise coach me. (This was particularly awkward because most classes only had 3-5 people.) I let this go on for a few weeks, hoping that she would don her professional hat and move on, but she didn't.

I have a chronic shoulder injury, and it was acting up one morning. An hour before class, I messaged the company, hoping that they would courtesy cancel the class (as the cancellation was injury-related) instead of charging me a $20 late cancel fee. Burns responded that I'd receive a late charge; she communicated no niceties about my shoulder; and when I pushed back on the policy, she told me I could cancel my membership. (See the screenshot below.)

Policies -- and communication -- like this do not put "people over profit," nor do they respect and build community -- values that WORK DC purports to hold.

The tipping point for me was that, after 5 weeks of practicing at the gym (under the unpleasant circumstances of Burns's attitude and lack of coaching), Burns told me that I could no longer enter the gym before class to roll out and perform my preventive injury movements. (When I first joined, I had asked her and Katie whether that was okay, and they said it was. What kind of respectable gym wouldn't allow its patrons to take care of their bodies before class?) Instead, they want to corral everyone in the lobby area until class time -- apparently as a form of forced extroversion/community-building.

Burns said I could prep in the lobby, but there's not sufficient room or the equipment I need to perform my preventive injury movements. This is wildly irresponsible (not to mention, a failure to provide a reasonable accommodation). I've been to 40-50 gyms, and I've never been prohibited from entering 10 minutes ahead of class to properly prepare my body to work out.

Most people will experience Burns as welcoming and upbeat. But if she sees you as challenging the gym's programming or policies (even if you're not, or even if you're simply giving polite customer feedback), she's rude and disrespectful -- and she can't let it go. I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

Also, the racks are installed backwards for the type of J-hooks they use; the gym only has dumbells (no kettlebells); and there is no hand-washing station or bathroom in the gym (access requires a passcode and a long trek to the parking garage).

If you want to get stronger and stand taller without (1) the risk of getting injured, or more injured, (2) the intimidation that everyone else knows what they are doing, and (3) feeling like you are alone in this journey, then WØRK is the community for you! You can walk in knowing no one and nothing and walk out feeling supported and accomplished. I have known coach Katie since 2016 and her programming is second to none. Coach Burns is a walking sunshine whose laughter over the mic is contagious. I’m so afraid everyone will find out about this hidden gem in DC that I have to fight for a spot when booking opens. Give it a try and you’ll see!

Excellence. This core value sums up the community that co-founders Coach Katie and Coach Burns have created. This community is unlike any other I have found in DC. The WØRK DC culture is inclusive, kind, and supportive as hell. And the workouts - well, the results speak for themselves. Before WØRK, I had never lifted a weight or done any kind of strength training. From day one, Katie and Burns guided me through each step. I quickly began to feel stronger and more confident in my body, and also in myself. Try it out, you will not regret it - and who knows, it might even change your life, like it did for me.

I have never seen workouts so scientifically and consciously designed to make people stronger and better from wherever they are currently. I've had an up and down couple of years health-wise, and I can always scale these workouts up and down to where I need to be. The coaches can modify anything to where you are - including getting you back from any injury or surgery you've had. And the community is the best anywhere... I have followed them from Adams Morgan to Union Market even though I live 2 blocks from about five other gyms. And I typically don't leave my neighborhood much, so that says a LOT!

These strength training classes provide the best workouts led by the most amazing coaches. Coaches are super skilled, provide adjustments/modifications, and meet you where you're at. Training includes exercises with body weight, dumbbells, weight machines, ropes, resistance bands, and sleds. Every class is different so you will always leave feeling stronger; there is no such thing as a plateau here! Playlists help keep the energy high. The space is brand new and clean. Water dispensers and towels are provided. Bathrooms are available.

I had never lifted weights or done any sort of strength training when I first started attending classes with Katie and Burns in 2021. They made something that was so intimidating to me at first accessible, and most importantly, FUN! The community they have created within DC has been incredible - they truly pour their heart and soul into creating a welcoming atmosphere for all levels and abilities. I promise you will not regret trying a class!

I've done almost every workout this city has to offer, and this is by far the one that's increased my fitness level, and kept me coming back for more. The programming is incredible, the community is supportive, and the classes are ever-changing so you never get bored (or plateau). A consistent participant since fall 2020, I followed the team across town because I couldn't imagine going back to other studios after experiencing the high level of care and support Coach Katie & Coach Burns infuse into every class. I have consistently gone to class anywhere from 2-5x a week over the past 3.5 years, including throughout 38 weeks of pregnancy. If you're looking for something new, or just want to get started, I cannot recommend this studio enough.

Two months ago I was looking to move on from one gym to another as I was no longer seeing meaningful positive gains based on their formula of workouts. At the same time I was moving to union market. I heard that Wørk DC was opening their location soon and I had to try them out. They were originally located in the Union Market Shops and I fell in love with the founders and their methodical approach to health and fitness. I am a distance runner and they have tailored each day to help me out and I have definitely seen success in it. I’ve found a place to stay for awhile.

The WØRK team is led by some of the best boutique fitness leaders in the area. The focus is on getting faster and stronger, and the only time physique is brought up is when it's about your exercise form. Whether you're just beginning your fitness journey or a seasoned athlete, the classes are accessible to all, and the coaches will always have exercise mods to fit individual needs. I'm better not only for my physical health but for the support of this community. Please come check WØRK out for yourself!

New to this gym -- found them when they were doing community classes outside of Union Market -- and Coach Katie, Coach Burns and the longstanding athletes could not be more welcoming, helpful and friendly. The classes are no joke but you can go at your own pace with a weight that is right for you and Coach Katie and Coach Burns can help you make any modifications that you may need while also pushing you to challenge yourself and get stronger with each class. I am hooked -- especially since I am already seeing results!

Katie and Burns are highly skilled trainers who create amazing thoughtfully planned workouts and add motivating energy. I know I'm getting a better workout because my body feels different than other HIIT/MetCon classes I've taken - I'm working my muscles better, more efficiently, and more safely. I really like how Katie and Burns pay attention to form and they are clearly knowledgeable and passionate about sports conditioning/kinesiology. Katie and Burns are also friendly and fun! W0rk is an awesome place to work hard, get fit, and have fun!

The WØRK community is the most welcoming group of athletes in DC. Coach Katie and Coach Burns make every morning (or evening) fun and accessible regardless of your level.
