The Y is a great place to get your exercise in. Clean, friendly. They have trainers that can get you started and show you how to properly use the equipment. They have an outdoor pool, all kinds of classes, pickleball etc. I haven’t even scratched the surface of what they offer.

Very aggressive regarding taking a picture to keep on file to the point of if you don’t have one they don’t let you leave without taking it. Is this something other people experience? You can say you don’t like the way you look and you’ll take one next time but no isn’t taken as an answer. It’s so disrespectful while being extra nice nasty.

I have been a member of the Barco-Newton YMCA for 20 years. It used to be an enjoyable place to work out, and meet new people. It was adequately staffed, and offered an array of interesting programs. Every year, my wife and I would contribute to its annual fund raising campaign. We also donated many items of equipment for Y use in its programs over the years.

Sadly, the Barco-Newton Y has been going downhill for several years. The gym used to be clean and well maintained. Now, some of the machines, such as the elliptical and treadmill,, are frequently inoperable and dirty. Oftentimes, there are no "Out of Service" signs on the inoperable machines, which would alert members. There used to be a regular cleaning service during the day, but have not seen them in years. Oftentimes, the sanitary paper wipes bucket is empty, so members have no way to wipe down the machines after use. It appears the Y is operating with a minimal skeleton staff compared to previous years.

It is difficult to write this, as this Y has been a part of my life for 20 years. The deficiencies that exist could be addressed, and solved, with a hands -on team with creative ideas. Until that occurs, this Y will continue to be nothing more than a 3rd rate gym.

The pool is nice and clean lifeguards on duty and watchful. Chairs, umbrellas are not in good shape. Only two umbrellas and chair straps are broken on most of the chairs. If they are busy there is no place to sit.

I sent my 6 yo child to summer camp, after the first day, he cried at the mention of going back. He said that is was 20% fun the other times they were sitting for long periods at drop off time and pick up time doing nothing. I sent an email requesting a partial refund and a return call. It took a week for them to send a "your are out of luck" email. Not at all impressed with this location.

Directors Mandy and Cindy do not make members feel valued or comfortable . After my mother fell in class we were treated so poorly and met with hostility and aggression from these directors and it was very sad. It was my understanding the health and well-being of the members is suppose to be the YMCA top priority and there was no compassion or care from the two ladies who run this branch.
The kid zone has nothing for children above the age of 7 to keep busy during times of work out either , it’s geared towards infants and toddlers and even though I paid $115 monthly for my children to be members, they had to sit outside of the workout area in chairs waiting for me to finish my exercise most of the duration of our membership.

The hours here kind of suck. They close too early and are inconsistent. It may be okay for retired people, but for people who work during the week, it doesn't give you much time to go to the gym. Closing at 3pm on Saturdays is ridiculous, not to mention Sundays when they open for a mere 3 hours. It's a shame because I like the vibe and it's close by. Am probably going to cancel my membership and start driving to planet fitness.

Everyone was very welcoming. The atmosphere is upbeat as the line dancing , chair yoga, and zumba keep the music going. The pool is heated and clean. Lots of showers available and clean dressing rooms. A+ to the staff for creating a safe and clean space for us.

We have been going to this place for many years for my children sports. I have enjoyed many times the staff and what they offer. They have many children’s sports available including soccer basketball,flag football. The swim classes were very helpful and patient during the summer. Inside they have a nice workout facility and is clean and always ready for you. The summer camps are great as well as other children activities they offer including some daycare.

This Fleming Island Y does not accept the Active and Fit program from my health insurance because they dont get reimbursed enough. My last Y was much bigger and actually told me about my health care benefits which I did not even no about so I am going to another gym.

My experience with sending my daughter here for camp which is very expensive $105 a week, with military discount was average. No snacks or meals included. And, it was a total mad-house dropping and picking her up with no greetings or feelings of welcome. However, the two saving graces of our experience with this branch is Barbara, and Matthew. This YMCA has everything we could want. The gym is pretty large and during busy hours there is plenty of room and equipment. They have a lot of classes and extra things to do besides working out. They also have a lot of activities and programs set up for children. Love this YMCA.
