Burke's karate is awesome! Very friendly environment with great instructors and a constantly growing and evolving head instructor. Master Burke is regularly growing and developing the art by adding effective techniques from other arts, while staying true to the core of Silkisondan Karate (Itself, basically, a blend of Shotokan and old school ITF Tae Kwon Do). They also teach Superfoot System kickboxing (and have karate legend Bill "Superfoot" Wallace come teach in person!) as well as Kali/Arnis and Combat Hapkido.

It's rare to find a karate school with an open minded head instructor that teaches a style that is still living, breathing and growing (and I've trained numerous styles the past 25 years) but Burke's is one of those rare places.

I've been training at this school off and on since 2016 (my main focus is grappling /Jiu Jitsu / MMA) but I always have a great time and learn something new from Master Burke and the crew. I highly recommend Burke's Karate to anyone and everyone with an interest! Master Burke cares about his students and will help you become the best version of yourself you can be. See you there!

Can’t stop the momentum, 5 starts all the way!
Master Burke is just the right mix of fun (and funny) and discipline. He teaches in a way that keep the children engaged yet commands respect and helps them understand real life situations.
We visited other places in the city and this is the only one we would ever attend. Others are all pressure, financials and a busy scramble between classes. Master Burke is flexible, helpful and a real person when it comes to trials, signing up and understanding the expectations.

After extensive research on options in our area my son began training at Burke’s Academy in January 2023. The first free class got him excited and Master Burke helped me surprise him with his uniform for Christmas. Master Burke is a highly competent instructor. It shows that he takes pride in training competent and respectful martial artists. He expects great effort from all students but is also incredibly patient with the kids and is great at keeping them engaged and motivated. Each class is filled with hard work, life lessons and a lot of laughs. It’s informational and entertaining even from the sidelines.
Master Burke and many of his other instructors have extensive training in and great understanding of numerous different styles. It shows in their teachings of the pros, cons and effectiveness of techniques. There are frequent demonstrations showing how to apply techniques in real life situations.
Class sizes can be quite large sometimes but the instructors are incredible at keeping eyes on everyone and giving instruction to the entire class on common errors they are seeing as well as spending time with each student on individual advancement.
Thank you to Master Burke, all of the dedicated instructors, and even senior students for giving young students a foundation for success on and off the mat. Proud Burke’s karate mom!

Master Burke is incredible. He's patient and encouraging. I love watching how he interacts with students, and he had a special talent when it comes to instructing kids. Burke’s Karate is exceptional in instruction, but more than that they are a community. Every single instructor takes time to learn your name (from day 1), to give feedback specific to you, and to
support and encourage growth and learning. There is never a single negative word, no comments like "you can do better," and no competition. The better one does, the better for all. The structure and consistency is incredible for kids.

I haven't been here yet I just read great reviews. I have a question is it a melting pot? Is it diverse? I want my child to feel accepted in his environment. I want all races to be included? Beyond the practical aspect of physical training for self defense purposes, it has enriched our lives in more ways than expected. I signed my son up for the one month trial and he absolutely loves it! Just the first month he has been at Burke’s he has already learned so much and I already notice a little boost in his confidence 😃. I'll be honest, I never trained here, but I have been to many other dojos. If I wasn't at my current school, this would be the place I would pick. The owner is very personable, and his students love him there. I was there twice once to pay for a seminar and for the seminar itself. Everyone was friendly and the owner knows his stuff here as well. Again if I wasn't at my current school, this would have been the place I trained at.

Hi, I don’t have a review but I do have a question. I have been practicing shotokan for 12 years I am currently 15 and am in 11th grade in high school. When it comes to deciding on which college to attend FSU is number one right now for me. What style of karate is practiced in this dojo? If you can get back to me on this soon that would be great! Burke is the man. My son and I have been members here since February 2018 and the only gripe I have is that nobody mentioned this school sooner. Between Master Burke and his team of awesome Black Belts, the school is loaded with so much talent and excellent teachers. I take advantage of everything the school offers - Silkisondan Karate, Combat Hapkido and Kali (Filipino Martial Arts), as well as private lessons and my boy will be attending Burke’s half-day Summer Camps. The school is a community devoted to excellence - not a McDojo - so if you’re just looking to pay for easy belts, then look elsewhere. But if you want individualized training, friends like family, support, or for your kid to learn valuable self defense, responsibility, devotion... then you should definitely try it out. He offers very inexpensive trials, but be forewarned, once you’re in, you won’t want to leave.

I’ve been a student for a few months and I absolutely love it here. My wife and daughter have been students for about a year now. Our original plan was to go look at all the karate studios in Tallahassee. We made it to only one! We were blown away at the atmosphere here. Honestly, words can’t explain how happy we are here.
