I really want to keep going here because it’s a nice facility, but we have asked several times to have the rooms with TVs working for the classes they have programmed. They never work. There are no early morning (5:30-6:00 am)classes to take. It would be great if they could accommodate early morning risers.

I like the convenience of the location of the gym and the equipment is in good condition. It is a great place to see friends and make new ones.

I was genuinely excited about the renovation of the Gulf Breeze YMCA gym, but unfortunately, the end result is underwhelming. 90% of the equipment is as if it was second hand from a high school gym and the few ‘higher quality’ equipment that used to be available was removed for some odd reason, and surprisingly, not replaced with anything comparable but worse. The current setup offers very limited options for strength training or functional workouts, which makes it difficult for anyone looking to make real progress/ drastic improvements in their fitness journey.

Strangely, a huge portion of the remodel seems to have been devoted to creating an oversized lobby that sits mostly unused, while the actual gym floor feels cramped and under-equipped. It’s frustrating to see so much potential space go to waste.

For comparison, the Pensacola YMCA, while not newly renovated, has a far better variety of equipment, more space to train, and overall a more practical design for people who are serious about working out.

I truly hope management re-evaluates the layout and equipment choices because this is not what we signed up for.

Too many teenie-bops sitting on the equipment with their heads buried in their phones. Seems like a place for people to hang out not work out.

The facility is clean and well-kept, which I appreciate. However, the three cardio rooms never have the TVs working between 5–7 AM when I’m there. These are supposed to offer virtual workouts, which is one of the reasons I joined—to take the guesswork out of my routine. Also, there are no real morning classes offered, which is disappointing for early risers. Is there a plan to get the Wi-Fi working continuously and adding morning classes?
Thanks!

Extremely rude behavior from the employees they really need to get things together here this is not how you should treat people the pay good money for a membership I have also been over charged for several weeks with no help from the employees and then to get treated the way I am is ridiculous

The renovation must have been designed by someone who does not work out. No separate men's and women's locker rooms. Huge lobby, lots of wasted space. Less equipment than before. People sitting on equipment texting as others await to use it ... no enforcement of common courtesy rules ... like re-racking weights.

It's nice that it's clean and tidy. But I don't like the public bathrooms and showers. I wish there was a women's bathroom and a shower. It's very inconvenient to use the bathroom.

Dated equipment in a small area, while huge areas go unused. Several kids from the high school who couldn't care less about courtesies like wiping equipment. A poster full of rules that are constantly violated (particularly the mandate for conservative clothing and athletic shoes) while the disinterested employees sit in the corner and stare at their phones, with no desire to enforce common sense rules. Other than all that, great job, YMCA.

This is not what a freshly redone gym should look like.

This place JUST reopened and there’s broken equipment all over the place. What did they spend all the renovation money on? All of this equipment is the same old junk from before they closed including damaged dumbbells, broken machines, and crusty bars.

I mentioned this to the front of the house staff there and just so happens that one of them is the one responsible for such upkeep. She informed me that they HAD in fact been working on it and had ordered 6000$ in parts and equipment.

6000…. Let that sink in. They spent literal MILLIONS on renovations and only 6000 on the equipment?

This place needs to get it together. Not what I’d call a good experience. The only reason to go here is because Chips is the only other gym in Gulf Breeze and it’s a health hazard.

Mixed Feelings About the Renovated YMCA:

The newly renovated YMCA introduces a blend of exciting updates and thoughtful changes aimed at fostering a more inclusive and welcoming environment. While there are a few adjustments that might require getting used to, the overall improvements signal progress.

Highlights:

Modern Aesthetics: The facility has undergone a transformative facelift, offering a cleaner, brighter, and more inviting space for members.

Enhanced Group Exercise Area: The revamped space for group fitness classes is a clear upgrade, creating a dynamic and motivating atmosphere for participants.

Inclusive Design: The transition to communal bathrooms reflects a step toward inclusivity, aligning with modern standards that promote equality and accessibility.

Considerations:

Cardio Equipment Availability: The significant reduction in cardio equipment is concerning, especially for members who rely on these machines for their workouts. Overcrowding could become a challenge, similar to what has been experienced at other locations.

Equipment Updates: While some machines appear older, this aspect feels like a missed opportunity to match the aesthetic improvements with fully upgraded equipment.

Reception Area Expansion: The larger reception area provides a more welcoming entry point, though the extensive use of space here may come at the cost of functional workout areas.

Looking Forward: The YMCA’s renovation reflects a commitment to modernization and inclusivity, even as it navigates trade-offs in space allocation and equipment updates. While there is much to appreciate, addressing the concerns about cardio equipment and ensuring that the facility continues to meet members' needs will be crucial for long-term success.

Closed 4 months for renovation. Go in and already or should I say still have 2 out of order signs on equipment. Several seats on machines don't lock properly so had 3 seats drop me this morning. Some new pads on old equipment, rust on bars, wasted space unless you wanna sit down and do nothing. Worst music ever says all 15 of us this morning. Know your morning clientele, no one under 40, none of us listen to that crap. Turn it off or actually listen to it to hear how awful it was.

Been a member since 1997. I've hav been out for 7 months due to health issues. Looks like nothing's really changed for the good. I don't care to go downtown. Looks like I'm stuck with the red headed step child. Not encouraging. Cleanliness is lacking as well. Still have paper directions on front door. Pretty unprofessional.

I just want to say Thank you Jack for your kindness today. I am always amazed at the kindness of strangers; especially when you're away from home on a business trip! I hope to pay it forward soon, and that you get double your blessings! I will definitely make YMCA here a place to visit when I'm in town 😁

Sad to see the deferred maintenance plan from prior ownership has been carried over to the Y. “Temporarily out of order” sheets of paper should be updated to “out of order indefinitely”. If I can only use ~80% of equipment, how about I only pay 80% of my dues? Weak workout options in Proper, so this is “the best”, unfortunately.

UPDATE: Been 4 months since Y responded about “big plans being revealed this spring”. Still waiting on said big plans. Most, likely all, would be very excited to hear more.

Ver tight space with machines really close together. No one at the desk to show us around the day we visited. The child care room is at the front of the gym, so that may be why it smelled strongly of urine when we entered.

Exceptional facility with quality free weights and machines. 24 hour access is a big plus too. This gym is equipped for people serious about fitness. Be careful of the stop light in front of the facility, it has a red light cam that nabbed me when light changed just as I was turning into parking lot. But that isn't the Y's fault. :) Highly reccommend this facility.

Great facility, however, nobody is ever at the front desk. We renew our membership but don't have a key fob to get into the Gulf Breeze location. The only thing we do is wait for another member to hopefully walk in when we do...... it's embarrassing. We also have a barcode to scan once inside but that does nothing but to check in. Disappointing that nobody is there or answers

Pretty good facility overall. The place is always very clean and the staff is friendly. They have a good variety of equipment available to use. However, it isn't a huge gym, so it can get a little crowded during it's peak hours. Aside from that my biggest issue is that it can take quite a while for equipment to get fixed if there is an issue.

I was recently at the Gulfbreeze location, where the front desk, attendant named Hunter, was able to help me. He was very informative, and was very polite and able to answer all of my questions with a smile on his face that was genuine. He definitely is a good person to have as the first person to greet the people coming in! He not only was helping me, but able to multitask with many others coming up to the desk with different needs.

It works but really needs some updates....no working sauna in the ladies locker room, some equipment is old or broken, needs water and Gatorade machines and other convenience items available for purchase...cycling room needs a glow paint job like it had to attract more people to the classes...place could def be better than it is, YMCA needs to pay it some attention.

Staff here are clowns! It’s a gym in a location with a high volume of tourist. My hotel told me to go here, they’ve recommend this location before and it’s advertised on their website when you book a stay. I showed up at 5:30 am, the place is packed, and worker there tells me I can’t work out until “staffed hours” meaning 8:00 am. Ahh, you’re standing right in front of me, you can’t take 2 minutes to sell me a day pass?!? When you call their number, the recording doesn’t tell you this, just says they’re open 24 hours and staffed hours have changed. I am in Pensacola/Destin area all the time. Won’t ever come back to this location. Oh, and I’ll be sure to tell everyone one of my friends who owns properties here to never workout here either. Congrats early morning worker, you just lost what would’ve been recurring revenue for several patrons! I’ll be telling my hotel owner to remove this gym as a recommend location as well. Terrible customer service!

They have what you need for equipmemt, and the locker rooms were clean, but for a new mom, the staff are just okay, and the kid's room staff member I kept seeing just wasn't someone I wanted to keep leaving my baby with. She wouldn't interact with my daughter at all, seemed too scared to go near her, and was always on her phone. Even when I was able to go a couple times without my daughter, she was still on her phone with other kids in there. Our first day dropping in, she didn't even say hi. When we asked where she would like her, she just pointed to a wall to put her carseat. Not a single word. I ended up cancelling my membership for another gym with better childcare staff because it was just not comfortable for me to workout and constantly worry about her.

I grew up in GB this has always been the best gym in the area. I even worked here my senior year before i went to college (2012). Recently the gym has even been renovated and gotten even better. It's an athletes dream. Punching bags, heavy weights, tons of room, good energy and music. My personal favorite is that this is the last gym of a dying breed that still gives out towels when you workout! I always tend to get the best workouts in this gym. Shoutout to Tony, the owner, for making and keeping this place amazing.

Cleanest fitness center in Gulf Breeze.. They hand out your own spray bottle to disinfect your machines WOW. Mask are optional but the Fitness center is huge so people are piled on top of you. They are strict about letting only members coming in to use the faculty which makes me feel safe. If you want a fitness center that is clean and professional come here. and only here.

If you’re pregnant, have Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or anything similar, do NOT come here if you need an immediate restroom. The man at the front desk was very kind, however they do not take into consideration people who cannot physically “hold it in.” I was told, “People pay to come here.”

I rarely post a bad review but felt the need after reading another review of the same nature. ( Linda Coley).
I also had to cancel my credit card to stop this business from deducting money from my account.
After a face to face conversation regarding monthly deduction fee for a personal trainer they continued to charge my account.
Be cautious of the monthly deduction process.
I was very disappointed in how this situation from a small business in a small community was handled.
