As a long-time Equinox member and part of the Co-operatives program, I’ve consistently invested in what I believed was a premium service and customer experience. Unfortunately, my recent experience with their in-store retail team was deeply disappointing and does not reflect the standards that Equinox promotes.

To begin on a positive note, I want to acknowledge Nicolas (kind, supportive and great staff) the branch manager (I don’t remember his name) and Emmanuel, a former personal trainer. These three are the only individuals I’ve encountered who consistently treated me with the level of care and respect expected at Equinox. They understand service, and their professionalism deserves to be recognized.

However, when it comes to the store and customer service regarding retail purchases, my experience was quite the opposite. My husband purchased a pair of shorts that he never wore — only washed — and the fabric shrank significantly despite following proper care instructions. We brought this to the attention of the store team, Selma (manager) only to be told that nothing could be done since more than 30 days had passed. She was following stores policy. What’s worse, no one took responsibility, no one contacted the brand, and the staff seemed unprepared and unwilling to offer any viable resolution. Even the Equinox representative who got involved, Cristal, failed to listen, and ultimately dismissed the concern without providing any form of support.

This goes beyond poor customer service — it is a violation of consumer protection rights. According to Florida Statutes §672.314, all goods sold must meet an implied warranty of merchantability, meaning they must be fit for ordinary use. A pair of shorts that shrinks after one wash, despite proper care, clearly fails to meet that standard.

Furthermore, under §672.316, unless a product was explicitly sold “as-is,” implied warranties remain valid — regardless of the store’s internal 30-day policy. I was not informed of any such exclusion at purchase. Florida law also provides, under §672.719, that when a product is defective, the buyer has the right to request a remedy such as a refund, replacement, or repair. Additionally, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (a federal law) reinforces that retailers cannot override implied warranties just because an arbitrary timeframe has passed.

Having been a loyal Equinox member for over six years — likely longer than some of the staff have worked there — I expected to be treated with basic respect and fairness. Instead, I felt dismissed, ignored, and devalued.

I do not recommend purchasing from the Equinox store unless you’re comfortable taking the risk of being left without support if your item is defective.

I was a member at Equinox Brickell and Equinox in London and in the UK, it was truly next-level gym experience. Unfortunately, neither the Coral Gables or Brickell locations offer anything close to that standard. Many members are rude, and the overall atmosphere doesn’t reflect the premium image Equinox promotes. If you’re looking for a true high-end gym, I recommend checking out competitors like Lifetime or Anatomy. The only premium thing about Equinox here is the monthly fee.

I don’t appreciate being called out for “training” because I asked my boyfriend for help deciding my workout for the day. Didn’t realize that wasn’t allowed. This location smells like garbage too. Also 100% not worth the price. Especially when you can pay $25 per month at PF and have access to the exact same (& more) equipment…literally… same brand, just different color. Life is tooo short for getting someone in trouble and lose their reputation as well for no reason. The only reason did is trying to reach out. The Worst Gym Experience of My Life – Equinox Merrick Park, Coral Gables

As a travel nurse, I dedicate my life to helping people — often working grueling hours, jumping from city to city, without a stable address. The last thing I expected was to be held hostage by a gym membership I haven’t even used in over nine months.

Equinox Merrick Park has created what can only be described as a financial prison. Despite not setting foot in their facility in almost a year, they refuse to cancel my membership unless I am:
1. Actively dying,
2. Diagnosed with a chronic, palliative illness, or
3. Moving to Alaska. Yes, Alaska. Apparently, that’s the only state cold enough to escape their icy grip.

Every time I call, I’m met with vague, scripted responses. Nobody gives a clear answer. I’ve been told conflicting things by different people — and not one person seems to have the authority to actually help. I’m stuck in this endless loop of red tape and deflection. They won’t even let me cancel on my own terms — only when it suits them. It’s like Equinox sees its members not as humans, but as monthly direct deposits.

To be clear: I haven’t used their gym in nine. whole. months. I’m a working nurse. I’ve moved multiple times. I’m rarely in one city for long. I don’t have a stable address — but I have plenty of proof that I am nowhere near Merrick Park. Still, it’s not enough. Apparently, I need to provide a tombstone or a one-way ticket to the Arctic Circle.

Equinox is supposed to be “luxury,” but this experience has been the definition of exploitation. A sleek facade with the policies of a loan shark.

If you value your autonomy, money, or mental health — run. Don’t walk. Run far, far away from Equinox Merrick Park. Because once you sign, there’s no way out unless you’re terminally ill or frozen in Anchorage.

I attended this location as a guest for 3 days; my experience was great! The facility is very clean, the staff is very kind, and overall, the gym has a very welcoming ambience.

I coordinated my visits through Nicolas Rodriguez. He is great at communicating and was very helpful with everything. Additionally, he is erudite regarding what Equinox has to offer, including the different CPTs at this location. Long time member of Equinox in CA. Moving to Coral Gables and asked them if I could do one workout at the time I normally work out to check out whether I wanted to transfer my membership. As a University of Miami student new to the area, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Equinox, but the General Manager, Nikki Bucks, made me feel welcome right away. Her hospitality and genuine enthusiasm set the tone for an incredible experience.

I was amazed by the variety of fitness classes available—I took Jamal’s Sculpt Cardio class (so much fun!), a Pilates Fusion class, and an intense abs workout, all of which exceeded my expectations. Nikki gave me a full tour, and one of the first things I noticed was how immaculate the space is. The level of cleanliness and attention to detail is unmatched.

What impressed me most was the wellness area. From high-end shower products and heat tools to my personal favorite—the eucalyptus steam sauna—Equinox truly goes above and beyond for its members. The entire staff is kind, professional, and welcoming, which made my experience even better.

Nikki, in particular, stood out as one of the most genuine people I’ve met. I truly appreciate the time she took to show me around and make me feel at home. Equinox has set the bar high, and I couldn’t be more impressed!

I have been a member for about 7 months. Today I got scolded for taking a work call through my headphones while doing my routine very poorly, considering how expensive the membership is! Add to that the fact that it doesn't have a pool, a jacuzzi, and lacks machines. If you become a member you won't be able to leave during the first year, although they are the ones who have a problem with you. It's always full of trainers, more trainers than you persevere while exercising! Before joining this gym you should try Life Time Gym.

I just wish they offered group studio Pilates, thorough the private sessions are great, they are not affordable on the long term. I know other equinoxes in other states offer them, I really wish they did that here in Miami.

The reason for the 1 star rating is that half the gym (the lower floor) has smelled terrible for at least 2-3 months now. At first it was a mildewy mold kind of smell and now it just smells like something died and is rotting. Doesn’t feel healthy to breathe to be honest. Thought they would’ve figured out the issue by now but the smells gotten so bad I can’t workout down there. The lower floor used to be a lap pool but they converted it into more floor / equipment space… feel like that has something to do with it. Could you all please figure this out or provide some sort of explanation?

The classes are great and totally worth your money. BIG fan of stronger, Metcon and the boxing clases. Also a big fan of the coaches, special shoutout to Darryl.

Not only he is super knowledgeable but he truly makes sure you are comfortable and confident while doing these clases. Thank you for metcon Fridays!

Now- about the actual gym. The gym is great cleaned and organized. Which is great because I continue doing weight lifting as i did before joining equinox. This gym allows me to continue my usual routine and adding a new challenge w these classes. Worth every penny, check out metcon, boxing, stronger, sculpt or any of the other classes. They are great for men, women, athletes or beginners.

What a scam! I work for a company that gets a discount with this gym. I was speaking to Milan Wagner, Sales Manager since Thursday, 01/11/24 and he quoted me one rate. I even asked him in the same email to confirm that that was the rate I was going to get and he confirmed it with a "Yes" and "Correct". We agreed that I would go in on Monday 01/15/24. While I was there trying to do the membership he had an issue with his system and it wouldn't let him complete the membership. He said "No worries, it just has to go thru an account manager and you will be set." I specifically asked him if the rate that he quoted me would be affected and he said "NO!". Yesterday, 01/22/24 he send me a text with a completely different rate. I informed him that that is not the rate I was quoted and I have it in writing the rate that he had originally given me. Today, 01/23/24 I called again and spoke to one of the managers that I have been dealing with all week, Aubrey Hoffman and she informed me that I'm stuck with the higher rate and there was no one I could talk to that could give me the rate I was originally quoted. Basically, she said "to bad, so sad." Be very careful because this gym gives you one rate to get you in the door and then they do a bait and switch on you. This is one of the most unprofessional businesses I have dealt with. Again, WHAT A SCAM!

I started the club two months ago, on my first equifit appointment, ı had to wait for the instructor for more than 30 minutes , it was a bummer. The theft incident and The behaviors of the instructors of Noah , Rodrigo and Jill were the prime factors that led to this review.

An instructor named Noah pantheleon around 55 years old who ı encountered the first time in my life Approached me and called me mummy which ı am not, ı do not have children and never gotten married, ı am a young person , ı told him that ı was from İstanbul and my name, he knows that ı am not Spanish , he is a very rude guy , he has no manners. As a doctor of political science, ı find this behavior of low intelligence

There is another old dance instructor named Rodrigo who thinks he is a good dancer, he caters to the old ladies who can not dance and yields to their pressure , he does not allow styling in the class , he is quite jealous of the Advanced dancers like me . I used to compete for Arthur Murray studio, he should update his playlist and his dance technique or the best is his retirement leaving his place to young dancers. The way he promotes his Wife as an advertising material is not ethical as well
There is another instructor called Jill, a petite Pilates reformer instructor who has a hoarding disorder. She demanded I take her anti grip socks off in the class so that she could use them next class. She has a hard time lending her socks for a short time. They are 5 dollars for Gods sake. I found that very rude as if she creates a situation I wanted to take them home. She cancelled her appointment at approximately 21. 37 pm for the next morning class which was very unprofessional. I found that email she wrote to Brickell manager saying that I was a revenue item for the club.

When ı talked to the Manager Nicole pence, she tried to cover up what has happened , ı have a project to finish in Miami ,will ı Choose coral gables equinox again ?no, I did not encounter such problems in Brickell location 7 years ago, the people there are different with a professional demeanor , ı am giving one star to this place for the sake of the instructors Ramon, Jamal and Robin. I never recommend this place to anyone.
I cancelled my membership when I had my iPhone stolen. There are no cameras in this place given that there was a triple homicide event of 2017.I do not feel safe and secure even though my iPhone was returned back by someone whose identity the manager did not reveal

Well I’ve always wondered about this gym. I was always reluctant because of the triple homicide there a few years back.

Anyway, today I went in and asked to see the gym. I expected to be attended to right away since this is a pricey gym. Boy was I wrong. I sat there for 25 minutes watching a membership advisor play on her cell phone while she was on the phone with God knows who, as I just say there as a prospective client. After that another membership advisor showed up, but he kept looking at her like, are you going to take the client that’s been sitting there.

I didn’t take any tour. It was 35 minutes till I was finally greeted when they saw me leaving the venue.

I’m glad it went down that way. I will never spend my money in a place that even after the tragedy in the news, still does not provide A plus customer service. What a joke.

I really enjoy this gym. When I moved to coral gables I first tried coral gables country club gym and it was cheaper but extremely underwhelming and the manager their is straight up rude.
At this gym all staff is incredibly friendly, the facility is clean and the equipment is in great shape.
This gym has a juice bar, a shop, kid’s room and a spa and it’s everything that I need.
Never had an issue with waiting on a machine or not being able to find an alternative.

In addition to the gym being overpriced, as others have said--the gym barely has the same equipment you'd expect from any typical $30 a month gym-by far the worse part of this gym is epidemic-level of mostly useless "trainers" that you'll be forced to wade through in order to complete your workout.

These trainers will typically monopolize large sections of valuable gym real estate in their attempt to impress their often frail clientele with the latest fad exercise routine, no doubt in an attempt to justify their inflated fees. I have frequently been forced to wait over 20 minutes to use one of the gym's only two bench presses (not because they are being occupied to do bench presses as they were designed), but because an arrogant trainer has concocted some ridiculous circuit routine which selfishly occupies an entire section of the gym for their one client. This is a clear misallocation of resources!

I have only two good things to say about this gym. First, the members tend to be professionals, business owners, and other outstanding productive members of the South Florida community--NOT the typical feckless mouth-breathers one usually encounters at your typical Miami gym. Second, the facilities, including the locker rooms, are very clean and meticulously maintained. These two reasons alone have caused me to continue my membership at this gym despite having to deal with the daily annoyances I mentioned.

Gym is great. They did their best during COCID which was tough on everyone. Wish they enforced the mask rules more to be on the safe side.

Worst part now is that they are permanently closing the pool. This was one of the best things to do for a lot of people. I am not sure why they are doing this…? To expand the fitness area? Seems like a bad choice.

Nice gym but pricey as most equinoxes are. This is one of the better locations in south Florida although the weight floor can be a bit small. It does get a bit crowded at times and staff cannot keep-up with cleaning it. Maybe if they hired a few more during peak hours?

I appreciate this gym more and more as I visit other gyms... In my opinion it is worth the membership investment. Staff is friendly and bright. Staff are always cleaning, this gym is clean! Cold towels in a refrigerator are available, gym shop, smoothie and juice bar, clean locker rooms with all the amenities. Parking validation (for a set amount of time). We tried the tri-training classes and private swim coaching and private training, as well as worked out on our own. Plus you get the Miami fashion vibes..E.bar at the mall for early mornings. I doubt you will find a cleaner gym. Noah, Estefanía, Brian, plus other trainers are great. Plus, they made it a breeze for us to end our membership when we moved away.

I live in a city that does not have an equinox gym yet I travel often for work to cities that have equinox gyms. So, because I travel often I join gyms for a month or two months. I have joined at Aventura equinox for a month or two Chicago and Dallas for a month and paid roughly $175-180 for the month. This location wanted $ 360 dollars for one month. Really ? That is beyond ridiculous.

Recently was invited to try the Boxing Boot Camp Class – Thursday Night 7:30 in Coral Gables Location. I’ve been to many fitness centers in the US , I workout a lot and enjoy every minute of it. I must say I was really impressed with this one. So let me get into details.

This location is very spread out and it didn’t seems crowded. Front desk staff are cheerful and friendly; reception area looks very nice and welcoming. Locker rooms were nice , clean and organized. That was a plus for me.

Now I must say the Boxing Boot Camp instructor (Mike Walczak ) was pretty amazing. I didn’t know what to expect when I came to a new class, and since I have been to so many I was thinking “it would be just another class” . No. I was wrong.
It was brutal. First of all he started with great upbeat music which put us all in the good mood . He was very approachable, and had a motivational style of teaching. Very professional. I notice Mike pushes you to your edge: there is NO slacking off in his class and That’s the style of class I like the most. He was walking around the room checking on everyone, pushing you into a deeper squat, commanding faster moves . He REQUIRES you to get your best workout possible. He connected well with the class and you can see everyone following and trying to give their very best. It is non stop and totally worth it . I did not laugh the next day. His class is no joke and will challenge you, help you shred fat and become a better athlete.
I left the gym feeling so good and motivated to come back for his next class. Too bad I only saw one class on his schedule a week? Hopefully he will have some more classes on the schedule cause he was pretty awesome. Everyone around was asking for more.
