I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in February 2023. My neurologist recommended Rock Steady for physical therapy but I’d suffered several falls, loss of balance, muscle pain & weakness over the years & the thought of “boxing” seemed absurd! After a few months on the medication Dr. Niazi prescribed, I felt strong enough to consider physical therapy, so I reached out to Janice at Rock Steady. She was knowledgeable, compassionate & encouraging. She invited me to come in & observe a class. It was incredible! Not only were the participants all “just like me”, they were bravely fighting back against the disease that was trying to destroy them. I was inspired! I’ve been attending for several months & my strength & balance have improved significantly. I’ve made friends & feel more like myself again. This is a fabulous program & I highly recommend it!

Janice Moia runs a top notch Rock Steady Boxing program in Melbourne. I have been attending since 2019 when I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I believe that staying active and participating in this class has enabled me to stay active and keep my symptoms at bay.

Do not let the term "Rock Steady Boxing" throw you off. This a multi-faceted program of which putting on boxing gloves and hitting the heavy bag is only one portion. Other activities to aid balance and improve muscle tone are varied each time we meet. Rock Steady Boxing provides a well rounded exercise program in a supportive environment three times a week. Come in and see for yourself you will not be disappointed.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2012. A neighbor, who also has Parkinson’s, told me she had heard about ‘Advance Fitness’ a gym that is specifically focused on training to help slow the progression of Parkinson’s. We scheduled an orientation-evaluation with the owner/coach (Janice Moia) who is certified and affiliated with the national Rock Steady Boxing program. Simply said, that day changed my life!

Janice is a rare individual. First and foremost, she is focused on the safety and the well-being of her clients. Client is too business like though, I feel extended family is more descriptive of how we are thought of and treated.

Her approach is centered on each individual and tailored to produce the maximum benefit. Although we have no definitive cure as yet for Parkinson’s, Janice and her team of fantastic assistant coaches provide a fun and highly motivated atmosphere where all feel welcome and challenged.

I began my relationship with Rock Steady boxing at the weekly support group meeting; the people there were all friendly and supportive, hey we share Parkinsons! Janice signed me in and I committed to a two day a week regimen. . The workouts, boxing against a heay bag, then a circuit of 10 to 12 stations is as strenuous as you want to make it. I go home a little tired, but inspired to exercise at home the days I don't have RSB The support group provides opportuniy to know the group better, and learn new information about Parkinsons. I believe RS has helped me deal with Parkinsons
