Hey Doug. Gainesville golf and country has been closed for three years. Not sure how you played a week ago. Nobody is running the place.

Played on August 15, 2025. The course is very tight for a non-T.V. golfer. The landscape is very pretty to the observing eyes but unfortunately the fairway trees are overgrown and the surrounding rough needs cutting. The sound of maintenance lawnmowers and personnel was unavailable. The temperature was a scorching 100 degrees. To prevent player heat strokes I suggest placing two ice water coolers at 4 hole intrivals. Also suggest hiring course Marshall's to maintain pace of play and course decorum. The greens are slower than a turtle and should be cut short and rolled. Come on Gainesville you can do better!!!

It was a nice day out on the green but course is in pretty rough shape. I understand these are tough times but they can do better.

Course was in terrible shape. Nothing good to speak of. Good lay out but that means nothing when the whole thing is trashed.

I agree with Bill and Darren. Worst course I've ever played, and I've played some backwoods, cow pasture courses in my day. It should be illegal to charge green fees to play this course. Adding pictures since the pictures I could find through google are nowhere near representative of the course today. There were so many weeds in the greens that we mostly picked up after the first putt.

Played there yesterday with some friends. I only gave it a two because of the course design. I could picture this place in its Heyday being an awesome challenging Course. Driving range was terrible no grass and dirty golf balls. On the course greens covered with weeds, bunkers filled with grass and hadn't been raked by the grounds crew probably for a month or more and oh by the way there are no rakes in or near the bunkers. Tee boxes were in horrible shape. Fairways looked like they hadn't been watered in a long while it was very dry so really no decent lies anywhere on the whole course no matter where you hit it. There are no water fountains on the course and the water fountains near the pool did not work so make sure you bring some. Again all I could think about the whole round was how awesome this place could be if the owners of this establishment and their management team had any idea what makes people want to play a golf course. I paid $45 to play a round here I think 20 would be more realistic based on conditions. If they cleaned the place up and made it look like a real golf course I'd be willing to pay alot more.
P.S. apparently they lost their liquor license so you can't even get a beer at this place!
So sad.....

It's like a $12 course that costs $45. Similar to ironwood but worse shape.

Course is trash. Hit a ball 20 yards off the green and lose it in weeds. Have some pride and mow once in awhileβ¦

Driving range borderline unusable. Called to ask if range was open, when I arrived they told me the cart that picks up balls is broken. This place is a joke now. Totally fallen apart. Hope new management steps in and fixes it.

Iβm shocked to see anything more than a 1. Should be illegal to post pictures of the course the way it truly looks. This course should close down immediately and spend money to fix. Green, tee boxes, and fairways full of weeds. Canβt find ball in the fairway. To top it off, cart paths only. What a joke. You canβt ruin these fairways any worse than they already are. Terrible. If you are a real golfer, avoid at all cost.

Was not impressed at all. Greens were in terrible shape with weeds growing through. No drink carts. No beer in the club house.
If course was properly maintained, it could be a very fun course.

A++++ in my books! This course is phenomenal with lovely scenery the whole way through. A very friendly staff who made my first time there a welcomed change! Met the superintendent, who was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the course. Even met the general manager of the course, which whom introduced herself as Betty, extremely professional and super nice as well! All around a very good experience with super fair pricing! Canβt wait to come back!

Nice GC, was previously private owned, now open to public. Fairways needed mowing, but it's been really wet lately, so understandable. Well worth $40

Played 5/31/21. Layout is good but course is in abysmal shape. Invasive weeds were infesting greens, tee boxes were entirely sand. Ant hills were common in the fairways.

First time playing here the other day and a great experience overall! Course is not in prime shape, but good enough for a bogey golfers like me. A tad pricey, but I know they are putting that money towards good work on the course. GRASS driving range! Friendly people, even the superintendent, Jessie, stopped my father and I to introduce himself. Very cool! Will be back much more often!

Country Club prices but very well managed! Nice course! It's winter but I bet that it is outstanding during the summer. Fast greens due to it being winter. Very good layout! Challenging course but VERY playable. I will definitely go back and I recommend this course to any avid golfer!!!

Very little grass anywhere. Tees are like playing out of fairway bunkers. Greens are dormant so the ball never wants to stop rolling even on good putts.

This club is truly a classic old southeir heirloom. It is open to the public and very affordable for the average golfer. The staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome and treated me as a member. The course is in excellent condition and the greens roll true... The only negative comment is on sand traps. Too many rocks. If you are looking for a truely old southern classic club course include this "secret" on your bucket list.

It was great, but when we arrived it rained which isn't their fault, I just wanted to put that out there. If you want to swim in that beautiful pool like I did make sure to go on a sunny day, not rainy. I would've loved to swim there!

The professionalism that I received from the event coordinator Tammy Blanco was at an all time low. I was referred by a family friend to go look into this venue to possibly have my wedding and reception here, but I'm thankful this was a place to X off my list. For one, myself and Tammy had been in contact with each other about her showing me the venue for sometime now...Fast forward, we set a date; today Saturday March 17th @10am for us to sit down to discuss pricing and the showing of the venue. We showed up at 9:50am just for them to tell us that "OH TAMMY STATED SHE TRIED SENDING YOU AN EMAIL LAST NIGHT(3/16/18) asking you if the time could be pushed up until 10:30am." That was funny because the way I have my email account set up, I receive notifications to my phone EVERY TIME there's a new email. We sat until about 10:20am and decided to leave...But here's the distasteful part, even after we decided to leave she didn't even call back to apologize for the inconvenience she had caused.. That was the least she could have done. If you're considering this place, make sure you conduct business with someone other than Tammy because this was really SHADDY to say the least.

Situated in a good location but the course requires major improvements with overall facilities. Restroom was clearly abandoned and had rarely been maintained, no drinking water on the course, and most importantly their customer service line keeps bringing me back to the main menu and thereβs no way I could get through to any staff by phone. Fyi, neither their restaurant nor bar was open on both occasions I was there. Course layout is mediocre with only two or so holes with minor challenges.

Since its opening in 1963, the mission of Gainesville Country Club has always been the same: To offer its members a lifestyle that includes high quality recreational facilities, member services and social opportunities in an open, friendly and family-oriented environment.
The golf course is a special part of the equation here at Gainesville Country Club. It was originally designed by architect George Cobb and opened in 1963. In 1992, Mark McCumber and Associates rebuilt the greens and brought them up to USGA standards. Playing anywhere between 5,163 and 6,866 yards, the course is well suited for anyone from beginner to touring professional.
While there are many outstanding holes, my favorite is the first hole, a dogleg right, par 4, that plays 399 yards from the White Tees. Number one portrays the challenge of the course and brings several elements into play: elevation changes - which are prevalent here - water and sand. Youβll need to avoid the trees on the right side of the fairway off the tee if youβre going to get off to a good start. Favoring the left side gives you a good approach to the green which sits well below the fairway. Your approach shot is played downhill, over water to a large green, well bunkered on the left. A very challenging and scenic opening hole that sets the stage for whatβs in store!
Most of the members I spoke with favored Number 16, a short par 4 that plays slightly uphill to a well contoured green surrounded by bunkers. Most players will need to fly the ball onto the putting surface. The green features a lot of undulation and can be tricky depending on pin placement.
One of the more interesting features of the course is the monster moss-draped oak tree that sits between #16 green and #17 tee. Some of the members told me the tree is over 200 years old and has been hit it least twice by lightning. Its massive branches stretch down into the ground, making for some incredible photo opportunities.
Presentation is everything and the food at Gainesville Country Club is not only exceptional, it looks great when it arrives at the table. Little touches such as shaved Parmesan cheese on the French fries add a nice touch. The food is so outstanding, I saw a table of 18 women in the dining room and not one was eating a salad! Pretty impressive! The head waiter Phillip has been there for years and practically knows every patron by name. If youβre unsure of what to order, heβs a great help and will never steer you wrong.
Gainesville Country Club is pulling out all the stops when it comes to attracting new members. The grand opening of the new clubhouse is set for May 17th and beginning that day for a limited time, GCC is offering a βSummer Preview Experienceβ that will let non-club members +see firsthand all that this private club has to offer on an βa la carteβ basis with limited restrictions. The program will run from April 24th β October 15th and prospective members will have access to all club social events, dining services, the pool facilities and tennis as well as complimentary Junior Golf and Tennis programs. This is a great opportunity for those who are thinking about joining a private club to experience Gainesville Country Club.

Wish I played golf. Looks like a great place to play! I will be installing a new fountain on the 18th hole I think. Kitchen is clean, staff is great. I have been working with managment, and can't ask to be treated any better thanks.
