I visited YMCA Hollywood recently with the intention of joining, but unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing due to the unprofessional attitude of the woman at the named Courtney. From the moment I asked about membership, she spoke to me in a condescending tone, as if my questions were bothersome or beneath her.

I understand everyone can have a bad day, but consistent professionalism and respect should be a baseline in any customer facing role especially when someone is interested in becoming a member. I left feeling unwelcome and disrespected, which completely changed my impression of the gym.

First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this one made me question whether this gym values new clients. I hope management takes feedback like this seriously, because the facility itself seemed great just not the attitude at the door.

➔ I filled out forms online and paid $11.90 on May 30th for 1 month.
➔ I intended to cancel within 2 weeks as per their policy.

The locker room smells so bad the moment you walk in of mold/mildew. Tiles falling off the wall outside of the steam room. The carpet in the locker room must have so much bacteria in it, makes no sense to ever put carpet in any locker room. This Y is not kept up at all.

Why do I pay more then half a thousand dollars every month for all the memberships and classes and the older lady at the front threats me like I am trying to enter free!? This is unpleasant and not the 1st time. This time she retook my picture, no matter that I was a member for a few years and had one, Explaining that the system is renewing and it just went missing. What about my kids? Why only my pic was missing and no other family member? Or is it because I did a haircut and was wearing sunglasses so she wanted to have a fresh pic? Which I am not obliged to do, or do I? And why not to say the truth. People can feel such things. I don’t want to come here and to be treated like I am a thief, when I pay for everything.

I just wish they fixed the 18+ locker rooms.
Those missing tiles been there for over a year if not more. The shower heads need to be checked frequently since they seem to go out of order more often. Clean the carpet, deodorize?
And that indoor pool should have been fixed by now, and you all know it…:)

This YMCA is horrible. The facility is deplorable and the current staff have no idea how to run a real sports program. I have waiting 4 years to express how I truly feel about this place. I have spoken to many parents and coaches, they agree. The roof is falling apart, there's mold everywhere including the baseboards. If you care about yourself, your kids or your community you will not step foot in this horrible place. Run away as fast as you can, but if you do have to be there, wear a mask so you don't expose your body to the black mold infestation.

This place offers a variety of services.
I take advantage of the pilates classes and preschool/summer camp.

The pilates instructors are prepared, aswell as engaged and truly care;

my 2 y and 4 y are very happy, and love their teachers, and I am confident they are taken care of, respected and learn having fun. They often ask to go to preschool also on the weekends, and they miss their teachers.

They just redid the pool, and it is brand new, but I didn't have the chance to use it personally. My children do swim class there during their preschool schedule, and during summer camp.

Some things could be improved, the structure is old, the playground is rotten and dangerous in some areas, the gym is old and dusty. It isn't a "fancy place " but still I am grateful we have it in Hollywood, and they offer well needed services for our community!

If you cancel your membership here at SoFlo YMCA, double, then triple check it. I canceled my membership in person here when I was about to move out of the state, and then the company proceeded to continue to charge me for a few more months. I'm not sure what happened here, but I was/am pretty pissed about it.

This place could be great if only it was well run. They just brought on brand new machines in the gym, but the East yoga studio has been sitting unkept and without improvements for many many years ... leaky roof, broken AC, dirty AC vents (look like they were never cleaned). Sound system has been out for many years. The windows are so paper thin that you hear every noise outside including he pool pump which is right there, so if you are unlucky enough for pool maintenance to take place during the final relaxation of your yoga class ...well then, too bad. Group classes could be decent but used to last 1 hour until they were reduced to 45 minutes which really is too short for even getting into the class. Cherry on the cake this morning, the next group class, led by the biggest elderly bully I have met, barged into our room 3 minutes before our class was to end, (they had been barking right outside the door like wild geese before that, occasionally peaking). There is a 15 minute buffer between classes to allow for people to transition, but this ONE ENTITLED BULLY in particular decided to interrupt the relaxation and open the door 5 minutes prior to the class ending time. When a couple of us told her the class was not over, she gave us a couple of minutes then opened the door again and showed the time on her phone saying it was 9:45 am and our class was over. Their class did not start until 10:00. Apparently this has been going on for years and while aware, management is not doing anything about it. Unbelievable. RUDE SELFISH INCONSIDERATE retired woman, who rush in the room to be sure she has the first chair right in front of the mirror and the teacher for the 10:00 am Mat Pilates class.
So sad and appalling. This should be a nice community gym where respect and tolerance should be implemented.
I will be cancelling my membership soon, I do not want to, because it's so conveniently located, I do not find any pleasure in going there anymore, worse, it's becoming stressful. Corporate and local management should look into the low enrollment and react! Be on the ground and monitor uncivil behaviors. So sad to see this place so ran down and mismanaged.

I have been a member in this place for years now, & the only reason is because it’s in my community & it’s convenient for my kids. 1) I stop attending the gym myself because the white Karen lady manager profiled me countless times. Every-time I walk in, she’d send someone to reprimand me for something or she’d do it herself. If not me on the phone, it’s my shoes etc... When I call her out, she start acting like she is reprimanding everyone else. for their shoes too😊 & yes I did report her to higher ups. They never do anything . 2) the majority of the front office staff not only do not listen, they do not follow up either. My kids attend sports there they charge me over service I cancelled, & no one seems to care to follow up. They refer you to this and that, who is never available. I’ll research & the moment I find a better establishment, I won’t be part of this. I pay for swimming, Basket, voley, camp sometimes but they don’t show appreciation or respect. They don’t even seem to want to help. Also front desk never have answer for simple things like dates, time. This supposed to be your job. How do 5-6 staff member stand there and act like they have no clue? That’s weird. Do better

I am writing to express my concern regarding the YMCA's policy on swim lessons during inclement weather. Recently, I was informed that my 1-year-old was still expected to attend swim lessons despite it raining. This is particularly worrying given that the pool is neither indoor nor covered.

How do you expect this to go? Subjecting young children to cold, rainy conditions seems unsafe and could easily lead to them getting sick or even hurt. If my child were to get sick or injured due to these conditions, I wonder if the YMCA would take responsibility and cover the costs of medical care.

Safety should always be the top priority, especially for our youngest members. I urge the YMCA to reconsider this policy and prioritize the health and well-being of the children in their programs.

Worst place ever wish I could give a zero.I sign up my son for a swimming class it was terrible my son was sick . They knew my son was sick and saw that he was coughing. They cancel his class and said come next Saturday to make up the class.Finally I show up they said no lesson today make up was yesterday Friday. Nobody called me to tell me anything. Lack of communication. that black girl who is the swimming lead or supervisor whatever she is told me to come on Saturday. When I get there they said no lesson today. Yesterday evening I had a horrific interaction with someone named Karla Creque that evidently was there from Corporate. She decided that she was going to escort my sons to the front desk and do God knows what without asking him his name, age or to bring her to his parent. My sons are 11 and they were independently going to the bathroom (being that for me they are old enough to do so on their own. I am not bringing 11 year old boys inside of the females family locker room)and then come right back to the basketball court which is where I the parent was at while they went. Well, she decided to stop them and told them to come with her and luckily I happened to see them getting escorted like little Jail inmates. I immediately went over and asked what was going on. She did not introduce herself she did not shake my hand. She lied and said my sons were out at the pool deck so I stopped her to confront my son about it in front of her and she wanted to keep talking over me and my sons and get argumentative. I asked my sons why they were over there when they had no business being there. My sons both became so nervous and scared and said “no mom, we were just going to the bathroom and she told us we needed to go with her”. I turned to Karla and said they were trying to use the bathroom what’s the problem with that? She then stated that children under the age of 12 must be with a parent at all times while inside of the YMCA. I asked her if that was in writing and she rudely replied that I should’ve received all of the rules and regulations when I signed up for my membership, I told her I didn’t and I always allow my sons to be on the basketball court, track or go to the restroom quickly while I monitor them from a little distance just like every other parent in there does. She wanted to keep arguing. I told her I hope you will go around to every single kid that you see without a parent standing right behind them and find out where their parent is and inform them of the rules as well because there’s no way just me alone was getting singled out on that whole issue. Of course she went about her business after that. This location is a dump! Majority of the staff (not all) behave in the same manner she does. They do not treat the youth there with a family friendly approach at all. I’ve seen it with my own eyes and had a chance to experience it first hand. Your child will be yelled at for trying to hang up their backpacks on the backpack hook, they will be yelled at for holding their basketball in their hands if carrying it with them in the halls and will be yelled at and provoked by blocking them from practicing by Coach Paula upstairs at the indoor track if your child’s Coach downstairs tells them to go up to the track and work on ball handling. The staff treats the youth like this is juvenile detention center, much worse if the parent is not right there by the child’s side to defend them at all times. All of the kids in my sons classroom all are terrified by how mean Coach Paula is to all of the kids … that is crazy. My honest feedback is save your money and piece of mind by not wasting your time at this facility. I immediately canceled my membership and refuse to ever support the YMCA again.

Very disappointed in my latest experience using the lap pool when I was stopped mid training to be asked to leave because there were no more lanes open and there was someone who just walked in and wanted to use a lane. I was told I had exceeded their 30 min limit and had to show on my watch that I've been recording my laps and it had indeed been 23 min. Mind you there was a man literally floating stationary on his back in the middle of a lane. I was allowed to swim 7 more min. Unbelievable.

Venushka is absolutely incredible! She literally knows and understand science of the body. Works the spine, proper form while working small muscle groups. I’ve taken Pilates and Barre paid $$$ at other clubs but none compare to her classes! Her workouts are smart for body physiology while super positive happy and fun!

I'm honestly tired of being kicked out of the gym here. I just turned 16 recently and they keep kicking me out due to my height because they don't believe me. The most irritating thing is that it's not like there are no adults present so I find this so annoying. The people in the gym are so open and gives advice to younger people. The new staff located in the gym make my experience awful. I love all the original staff not making it a big deal. I got this membership for the soul purpose of going to the gym. Before I got a membeaship a staff member said I was allowed in the gym at 14 ALONE.

The fitness center has an amazing update. The entire gym has new equipment and more gym equipment than before. Finally the A.C. works in the gym. Now I just have to fight to find a space to workout at the gym especially during the weekends cause these teenagers just sit around on the floor and being on people's way. I just wish they stopped dribbling their basketballs in the workout area. I just wished they could let us one of the classroom when there is no class.

this place has totally gone downhill! spin classes with broken bikes, bikes not maintained, overbooked classes, people fighting for bikes, weight room full of rusted equipment, steam room hardly ever works. Place is dirty....and spent a month with a broken a/c in spin classes....UNHEALTHY

The weights bench bars and the bars on the quaud mahine have rust on them. The bars that are used for exercise on these machines are rusty. The machines need to be oiled so they glide smoothly and not squeak or you have to use force to adjust them. One machine has had out of order for a month now. One machine was broken and out of order sign was put on 3 days later. Today sign gone but mahine was not fixed. I seen what the simple solution was to fix it but apparently the staff did not look at it. I worked out on several machines today and seen used wipes left behind. The hour I was there I did not see a staff member walk thru once. I did see the tapping of the YMCA. They did not show the area that I spoke of. If they did it wasn't close enought to see rusty bars. Even sanded...why not recoat them? First wipe sanding dust off. I have had that rust on my hands many tmes just adusting equipent. I think machine activity should be monitired. There are sevearal people that sit on machines and not working out. They are on their phones with social media.

I can say my son has learned a lot with the basketball. But most of the coaches have their children playing on their team and give very little opportunity to the rest of the kids to play in the games. I even received text messages from a coach trying to cancel a game because the star player couldn’t attend the game. I pay money so my son could play with a team. Unfortunately it’s not like that at all. There is no equality between the kids at all and that I do not like. They need to fix this and not have father son on the same teams to avoid this

Stay away from the place the coach steals your money and they only Apologize and say moving forward. Moving forward what about us parents that she was taking from for her own personal reason the money she had us zelle cash app her with car rentals gas hotels we parents paid for her even though YMCA paid for her this is a horrible place when it comes to money it's supposed to be for families that have a hard time getting there kids into to thise high cost places but stealing our money for her pleasure so sad run find a place that's honest

I would rather put 0 star than 1 star because they deserve it , I’m very disappointed, I spoke with the manager that I would to hold my member and they keep changing without my permission during 3 months !!! and when I ask for refund they didn’t guarantee any things because they are ( non profit organization) but for me they are (a stealing company ) and I got scammed from them !!

Great amenities. The facility is clean. The communication from management can be spotty, but overall is satisfactory. I appreciate the variety of classes and the quality instructors. Overall, good experience with YMCA, specially Hollywood location.
