Been an on-and-off LA Fitness member for over a year now, and after reading literally thousands of reviews across Yelp, Google, Reddit, and everywhere else, here’s the honest, no-BS summary that matches what pretty much everyone says:
It’s the ultimate “you get what you pay for” gym. For the price (still one of the cheapest national chains with month-to-month options), you get a ridiculous amount of locations, decent equipment variety, a pool, basketball courts, and free group classes. If you just want to show up, lift, do some cardio, maybe swim or shoot hoops, and leave, it does the job better than most places in this price range. Off-peak hours can actually feel halfway decent plenty of machines, shorter waits, and the vibe is tolerable.
Now the part literally everyone complains about (because it’s true):
Cleanliness is a coin flip. Some days it’s fine, other days the locker room smells like regret and the equipment is sticky.
Stuff breaks and stays broken forever saunas, hot tubs, half the cable machines, you name it.
Towel service? Good luck. Bring your own or prepare to air-dry.
Staff ranges from genuinely cool humans to people who act like you’re bothering them by existing.
Canceling or fixing billing issues? People write horror stories that could be Netflix documentaries. Read the contract twice and screenshot everything.
Bottom line: If your expectations are “affordable big-box gym with tons of locations and I’m not a neat freak,” you’ll be perfectly happy and probably give it 4 stars. If you want spotless, high-end, white-glove service, you’re shopping in the wrong aisle go pay triple for Equinox or Lifetime.
For the money, it’s still a solid 3 stars. Wipe down your own stuff, go at weird hours, and you’ll survive just fine. Millions of us do.

The pool is closed most of the time, they say it has to be repaired. The person that keeps the pool is very unprofessional, he puts chemicals in it even when people are swimming, the heater to keep water warm does not work.

This gym leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the machines are damaged or in terrible condition, and it’s clear they don’t invest in maintenance. It’s frustrating to pay for a membership only to train with old, unsafe, and unrepaired equipment. Management ignores complaints and nothing ever changes. I do not recommend it until they make a full renovation and take their customers seriously.

On September 29, 2025, my friend and I visited this location with the intention of signing up for a membership and gathering more details. However, the staff member assisting us seemed solely focused on making a sale, and the manager displayed the same attitude. Although we specifically asked about individual plans, the representative repeatedly tried to sell us family plans instead. We ended up paying an upfront fee, which included the first and last month's dues, totaling nearly $200.
Today, on October 21, 2025, I attempted to begin my exercise routine but was denied access because they claimed I owed additional money. When I requested a breakdown of the charges, I found that they had added an Enhancement Fee, which was neither explained nor authorized. As a result:
- They failed to deliver what was originally agreed upon.
- They charged fees without my consent.
- They imposed an annual fee even though we had just joined.

Too many people for very few machines. Groups of three or four just sit around talking on a single machine, making it impossible to complete your workout. In the end, you pay for a monthly membership for nothing because you don’t even feel like going to the gym just to wait in line for 30–40 minutes. I’ve been there at 5 AM, 9 AM, and in the afternoon — it’s always the same story: way too many people and not enough equipment.

Out of all the gyms in the area, this one is by far my favorite. The atmosphere is welcoming, the facilities are well maintained, and everything runs in an organized way. But what truly makes the difference is Milena’s service: from day one she greeted me with a smile and always shows great willingness to help. I am a member at the LA Fitness on SW 56th Street and 137th Avenue, and I wanted to share some feedback. This location has so much potential because it is very convenient for many of us in the community, and the surrounding area is growing quickly with new apartments and developments.

Unfortunately, the quality of the gym has been declining:
• Many of the machines and equipment are old, worn out, or broken, making workouts frustrating.
• The gym feels dark and uninviting, which affects the overall atmosphere.
• It often feels like this location is being abandoned by corporate, while newer clubs get attention.

This is disappointing because this specific club serves a large and growing population. With the number of people moving into the neighborhood, this should be a showcase location — but right now it doesn’t reflect the standards LA Fitness is known for.

I hope management and corporate can take a second look at this gym and invest some love into it with new equipment, better lighting, and an overall refresh. It would make a huge difference for the current members and attract many new ones from the nearby communities.

I've been a member for over a year and the stairmasters are always under repair and are rusting. See the attached photos under this review for reference. 1 of the 4 machines usually is not working. These stairmaster machines should have been replaced years ago. This is not fair considering how much I pay for a membership.

Was told I was going to receive a call back by the manager. Not only was I not called back within an hour as I was told but they also wouldn’t answer my calls but I was also charged a payment without the correct security code or expiration date (which is illegal). I was told I would have a manager contact me to the reverse the payment which LA Fitness had no permission to withdraw. But now I’m conveniently being avoided. I will be taking legal action against LA Fitness if this is not corrected immediately.

This gym is HORRIBLE falling apart
dirty, rusty machines, no cold water, so so depressing. I signed up with a personal trainer after the introductory class and was there for 2 months they sent me some diets recepe thru whatapp and some exercise on their booklet, the trainer bother to weight me, measure me back only the very first day, never ask me about the diet. Is that consider a “personal trainer”? The room where the private trainer happens some the machines have a disruptive squeaky noice I even asked her to put some W-40 she responded the other trainer did but didn’t work. Never saw her wiping/cleaning equipment after use it was a factory in and out. Not even for free will I go back. And closed my credit card acct and out. Now attending the one at Kendall drive and 168 what a difference all the way.

My first time attending the staff were incredibly nice. I got a free weekend pass after only paying for a daily pass. The place was clean. I have been coming to this gym for several months and I had the opportunity to compare it with another LA Fitness, although the staff is of very good quality and give good customer service, the conditions in which the establishment is located leave a lot to be desired, the sauna of very poor quality, the bathrooms look very old and deteriorated, the showers give some disgusting and the steam bath, well that one is always broken. It is definitely time for the purchase to take this place into account for a remodeling because the competition is providing very good quality. I repeat the staff is first class but the material leaves a lot to be desired.

Signed up for a free 3 day pass, went only once, and didn’t come back the other 2 days because this gym is TERRIBLE. It’s old, dirty, rusty, musty, messy, any negative adjective you can think of. Machines are ALL falling apart. Literally all of them. There is not a single machine that is not rusting. The weights are scattered EVERYWHERE and the rack is completely disorganized, good luck finding a set of dumbbells. No one wipes down their equipment or puts their shit back, though can you really be surprised that members don’t care about the gym when management clearly doesn’t either? As a woman I also personally did not feel comfortable here. It’s a big boy’s club and even with my husband around I felt like the men were super judgey and annoyed with me using the benches for example. Not to mention the casual, loud, open conversations from old Cuban men talking about condoning slavery and deporting legal immigrants who vote Democrat… so I guess if you’re views are as outdated as these machines then you’ll fit right in. Otherwise, stay far far away.

This gym is falling apart. The patrons always mess around with the sauna temperature and went I brought it up to the front desk they said they couldn’t do anything. Sometimes it feels like your skin burns up as soon as you walk in. The machines are rusted and seats are torn. I just tried two out of 4 Steppers and where broken. It’s the worst LA fitness in this area and that I’ve ever been to. This has been going on for years and they don’t do anything about it. Not to mention the steam room is always out of service. Avoid this location at all costs if you can. Unfortunately it’s the closest one to me and I have limited time.

I was really excited to go there. But after a tour, I was totally disappointed.
1. It is very crowded. Even on a weekday at 10-11 am.
2. Steaming room and spa were out of order (these were the main things I wanted to join for)
3. Kids club is not provided because they don’t have an attendant and they don’t know when it will be available… (!!!)
4. The pool has no space around it and it can be observed by people working out inside (don’t feel comfortable about it at all)
5. Manager wasn’t speaking English and no one gave me a tour, just send to explore by myself

Clean, nice, different typa L.A. Fitness! Loved the layout and more chill, friendlier "neighborhood" vibe and staff! Equipment seems pretty well maintained overall, and facilities are enjoyable including an outdoor pool and adjacent sauna & rarely seen steam room (although it was out of order as of the writing of this post). Will come more often to this L.A. Fitness because I enjoyed it and to mix it up as far as the locations I choose to work out. Definitely recommend!

While it is true that in the Gym, which I attend every day from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00 A I have found a good administration in every sense of the word, excellent cleaning in bathrooms and equipment, walls in the same way in the patio where we have the pool, the Gyn's carpet is about 24 years old and despite this time I have never felt a bad smell of mojo or wet I want to testify to my words recognizing the kindness and attention of all the staff, administrative and support.

I moved back to Miami & of course I had to sign up again to LA Fitness - Signature Club in Kendall & the first thing I noticed is the changes the manager Milena made to it 👏🏼 From the new functional training area to the clean well serviced machines. She has been one of the people at the gym and west Kendall. Thank you 💪🏼

This place consistently lacks cleanliness, and it appears that the manager, Rosie, prioritizes attracting more customers over maintaining a clean environment. The pool cleaners merely meet the minimum requirements, leaving much to be desired. Additionally, the sauna is in a state of deterioration, and the Jacuzzi jets do not function properly. Moreover, the gym's early closing time is inconvenient, especially for parents who can only stay late on weekends when it closes at 7 pm. Furthermore, the weights are often missing or scattered throughout the facility, including the pool area. It's a shame because this gym has the potential to be the best La Fitness in town, with its impressive outdoor pool area and parking lot.

Club is ok. The sauna at this location is hell, too hot, feeling your skin burning. In others clubs in the area the temperatures is normal not damaging to your skin.

Very big gym and I go there 6 times a week. It has a snack bar and Nrgize booth which sells protein shakes. Has two floors and my only complaint is that the membership is expensive for some people and you might have to pay around $30-50 dollars a month.
