I was gonna leave a not so good review based off the lack there of , as the facility is beautiful, but I called again and spoke with TIM, TIM TIM TIM, Tim made me change my mind, whatever position Tim holds need to be upgraded 😀 😉. I originally felt that joining this YMCA was one of the best decisions I had ever made. The facility is beautiful inside and out, and wellness practitioners like Mr. Cory and Mr. Russell stood out for their patience, compassion, and support. The amenities—including a pool, basketball court, theater, and Silver Sneakers program—make it a great place for all ages and fitness levels.

Unfortunately, my experience with customer service has been very disappointing. If a trainer resigns (Mr. Cory), members are not informed or given a choice of if they want to continue with someone new, and prepaid one-on-one sessions are not refunded. Membership cancellation is difficult, calls from management go unanswered (Mr. Sonny and Mr. Dean), and charges continue even after requesting to end the membership.

While the facility itself is impressive, these poor membership practices overshadow the positives. I truly hope management improves these areas, because members deserve better service and transparency - Sylena Britt

I pay for a full membership ONLY to use the pool, and every single time I go, I’m forced to swim crammed into a corner with my daughter because of endless swimming lessons. This so-called “free swimming” they advertise is a complete bait and switch — it’s NOT free swimming if 90% of the pool is blocked off.

And then there’s the pool supervisors and management. Shana was beyond rude — condescending, unprofessional, and downright disrespectful, not just to me, but even to her own employee who was trying to actually help and make sure me and my daughter had a decent experience. She spoke to me like she was doing me a favor, when I’m the one paying for the membership!

I lasted two months before deciding I’d had enough. I even wrote to the pool manager about it two weeks ago — still no reply. Not surprising, considering the lack of care or respect for paying members.

Save your money. Save yourself from this horrible, uncomfortable, and infuriating experience. Every time I walked in, I felt unwelcome and on edge. This is not how you treat customers. The entire pool management team needs urgent training in basic customer service, empathy, and how to not drive paying members away.

I have been reaching out to this same swim lessons program coordinator Shane for the last month when I go there he is not there and when I call he is not able to answer . The Black Box Theatre was the perfect backdrop for our intimate wedding of some 70 people. The staff was very helpful with planning the details and providing what was needed before and during the wedding. Shaina was in charge and was very experienced with how to coordinate lighting, tables, dj booth, the bar in the lobby and our ceremony was perfect and lovely for all our guests to enjoy. Her suggestions made everything go as planned and she is a pleasure to work with as well as her professional staff, who felt like part of our celebration. It was a magical day and very affordable as well. Just need some imagination to work with the venue and make it your own dream come true, as we did.

If I could give this facility zero stars, I would. I am extremely upset with my initial and overall experience with this center, its employees, and the entire process. My son’s school has an aftercare program that uses the same name as the YMCA, but it turns out to be a completely different organization. I signed him up under the impression it was the school’s program. However, it turns out it was for this facility, and I had to be given a completely different website from the one provided by the YMCA at his school. Marques kindly provided me with the correct website, and I registered my son.

Now, I am requesting a refund because I mistakenly paid for a YMCA membership, even though it’s not the same organization located at my son’s school. Can you believe they declined my request? My son has never attended any of their sessions, nor is his name on any sign-in sheet. So I’d like to understand how they reached this decision. They claimed it was because I signed up through their website. But if the representative at my son’s school is using the YMCA’s website, how is this error my responsibility?

I visited the facility on Sistrunk, believing I had canceled the membership. Yet, for an entire week, they have continued trying to withdraw money from my account for something I do not want. How is it possible they are still attempting to take funds after I went there to cancel? The employees do not communicate with each other, and nothing gets canceled, even if you have proof of an email confirmation.

I am beyond frustrated with this organization. Corporate needs to review their decision and seriously consider new policies and regulations to prevent situations like this. Better communication and customer service are essential.

Best place ever it’s very nice and clean here. I go to the swimming pool almost every day when I can and do water aerobics. All the instructors are nice and the staff is great as well. They’re very friendly and welcoming too and very professional. It’s just like a bonding place here like a family.

It's nice and clean. Membership is expensive but the facilities aren't meant to hold a lot of people on the regular basis. The place seems to be more of a "safe haven" for the kids, which is nice. But I get the vibe that they want "broke" young adults to stay clear from that place. When you're charging $30-$60 a month, I wouldn't let the broke people come around either.

This YMCA off Sistrunk is the best thing that has happened to sistrunk in a long time. It has a pool, a meeting roof top area, a gym and plenty of activities going on in the theater area also. Truly this facility is the best of the best I've seen of All YMCAs! The staff us mostly helpful. Even the maintenance folks are helpful. The facility is very beautiful no doubt to were it even looks like a modern museum. Basketball courts are very upscale and always clean!!
Also there are cheerleaders, swimming and basketball leagues. Get Down to this why and go do a yoga class or hit the weights as well.

Came here for the first time, and I could kick myself for not coming here sooner! This place is magical. The art is eye-opening, and 6 I spoke with Mrs. Sharon and she is the absolute most pleasurable human to speak to. Her passion for the children that go through the Y is palpable. I can't wait to do some projects with them. If you have not been to this YMCA, I highly recommend going as soon as possible!

The lack of candor and professionalism I've experienced with dealing with one of the staff here is unbelievable. Their cancellation policies are extremely disfavorable to the community. I've moved to another city and YMCA has refused to cancel my membership. I explained my relocation to the staff member and she asked why did I not cancel the membership before moving and she refused to allow me to speak to the onsite director. She kept saying it must be canceled in person. I am now filing a complaint an antitrust complaint against them. There is no reason to force individuals and families into membership when it is no longer needed.

Located in the historic Sistrunk community of Fort Lauderdale, this great new YMCA stands on the historical site of the former Provident Hospital.

In 1937, Dr. James Franklin Sistrunk, a black physician in Fort Lauderdale, helped Dr. Von D. Mizell, a Dania Beach native, found Provident. The hospital began in a meager building near Sistrunk's office. The two doctors led community efforts in fund-raising for a better site. The hospital soon opened on the N.W. 6th Street location. Dr. Mizell became the director in 1938.
Provident was a general hospital, owned and operated by the black community through a non-profit corporation. It served as the hospital for the care of black patients anywhere in South Florida. Operated by an all-black administrative staff, the institution offered medical and surgical care under the standards set by the American Hospital Association.
The 15-bed hospital was located at 1409 Sistrunk Blvd. at what later became the city-owned Mizell Center, and is now the Lee Mizell YMCA, established 2022.

The 4 story building boasts an exhibition hall, a 200-seat shadow box theatre, in and outdoor rental spaces, youth program areas, an outdoor pool, a Broward College satellite site, a business incubator, as well as traditional gymnastic equipment and a variety of classes for youth and adults.

My wife and I were on vacation from Pennsylvania and found this YMCA to lap swim in. we have a memebership to our local YMCA back home. We went 6 out of our 8 days to swim. Latisha and Shana were awesome. Pleasant and very welcoming everyday at the pool The outdoor pool is amazing and well maintained. TEMP WAS PERFECT. The front desk staff was also outstanding. Extremely helpful and everyone we encountered gave us the same wonderful treatment. We will be back next year!!!
