Decent course, service and management is bottom tier. Latest in screw ups at the course - call 5 days ahead to book a tee time for a solo , told that i will be paired with a 2 or 3 going out, this was the first they didn’t let me book for a solo but ok.. show up to the course at the time I inquired about to be told that because I didn’t book a time I’m waiting behind “8-12”.

My advice either play somewhere else as a solo or book for a 4 and tell them your group bailed.

I came to the conclusion that they will keep waisting my time with there range. Not posting that it's closed or temporary closed I may still use the course because it's nice to play i give that 4 stars but the driving range come like your not going to use it. You can put and chip

I played Mangrove Bay this weekend and had 2 completely different experiences. On both days I was a walk on and paid to ride. On Saturday when my name was called I was told to give up the cart I paid for and ride with some random old guy.  The starter told me that because of a shortage of carts they pair people up when possible, my round was awful listening to this guy ramble on and on about nonsense.  On Sunday it was a different story, I played with two other walk ons and we all had our own cart. Three carts in the group in front of us and three carts behind us.  The guy on Saturday needs to be reassigned to cutting grass so he doesn’t ruin people’s weekends. Totally unacceptable to have this guy as a starter.

I’ll be honest — my last visit to Mangrove Bay was an awful, awful experience, and I wasn’t sure I’d ever return. But after hearing so many great recent reviews, I decided to give it another chance, and I’m truly glad I did.
Yesterday’s round completely changed my opinion. The management has clearly stepped up — everything ran smoothly and professionally. The greens were in excellent shape, the course looked beautiful, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and enjoyable.
It was a great experience from start to finish. Well done to the Mangrove Bay team for the improvements — I’ll definitely be back again!

Course is in great shape! This is the perfect place for you if like long reflective breaks between each and every shot. Want to play a five hour round? You’ve found your spot. Pro-shop is not accommodating, starter is rude, pace is like moving in slow motion and the clientele is the type to steal your golf ball right in front of you. All that being said it’s a muni course in Florida so expectations are always low. Just sad that such a nice course is subjected to such slow play. I had so much time between shots I actually wrote this entire review while waiting to hit, good luck to anyone who chooses to spend their time here!

I have no idea how this course is only rated 4 stars. I played it for the first time this past Thursday 8/21, and it is the nicest maintained municipal golf course I've ever played. Lush fairways and greens, tee boxes great, bunkers great. Huge chipping green and huge putting green in the practice area. I didn't have time to hit range balls, but they have a nice looking range. Staff is all very friendly. The facilities are large and expansive. Even though you're close to downtown St. Pete, you feel like you're at a more remote course. It just has a very laid back, almost private feel. We got paired with 2 seniors who were very nice, and I think we played in about 4:15. I am from Tampa, and our 3 munies are nowhere near the shape of Mangrove Bay. The TSA should take notes from St. Pete about how to maintain a golf course. Finally, the prices are better than in Tampa. We played for $44 in the morning on a weekday. The only downside to Mangrove Bay was that they are not interested in any leagues. They already have a couple leagues who play there, and they are so busy they don't need league play. I run Gaspar Golf, and book over $150,000 in golf every year for my 3 leagues and amateur tour, and have played all over Florida. Mangrove Bay is an absolute gem, with an easy layout to allow players of all abilities to shoot great scores.

Mangrove Bay golf course needs new management… this golf course could be so much better than what it currently is. It could be better in every way conceivable. actually, Artificial intelligence could manage this golf course much better. Unfortunately, all of the nice public golf courses are in the Bradenton-Sarasota area or the Kissimmee area which about an hour away, each. It’s worth the drive, though.

Can someone explain to me why there are literally never any tee times online? Is the course honestly THAT popular that it sells out within 15 minutes for the entire week? I don’t understand.

Pace of play is absolutely horrendous, but they don’t care because it’s subsidized by the city. No incentive whatsoever to improve the experience.

My wife is getting back to playing golf. She's a cancer survivor and we are happy she's back. We are long time St. Petersburg residents and went to Mangrove, as I always remembered it as a nice golf course. Well, the people were not nice. The guy in the starter shack was rude. One guy monopolized the pitching green, and was quite rude to us, even after I tried to reason with him. Someone was yelling at us from the driving range. Shameful behavior towards us. I remember sportsmanship and being welcoming and neighborly. I did not witness that today. Wow. My property taxes help support this place. Terrible culture.

To management: pace of play NEEDS to be addressed. This track should never take longer than 4 hours tops, realistically 3.5. The fact that people are taking 6 hours to play through is just unfathomable.

The tee time booking system NEEDS to be fixed, the amount of no call no shows every day even though it's fully booked is absolutely shameful.

Golf is stressful enough without all these issues, please try to make it a bit easier on your loyal patrons (who actually live nearby full-time).

Good layout. Conditions are iffy in some places. Seems like they over water their tee boxes with standing water as well as some with no grass. Greens can be difficult at times which is fine but as a public course, the number of ball marks that haven't been repaired is quite high. The price is right so you can't complain about that.

Best Public course around. I play solo most of the time since I am new to the area and as a woman I am paired with total gentlemen! Staff has always been nice to me and allow me just enough time to hit practice balls before pairing me up. The course is kept in a A rating and the prices are exceptional. If you golf in the Tampa Bay Area treat yourself! Not the country club only because the grill is not glamorous but I am here to play golf! ⛳️ Treat yourself to a nice day out. Lisa H.

I play this course almost weekly! For the price the quality of the course is fantastic. The driving range needs some work as the it’s like dirt with grass sparsely spaced, but not many St Pete course even have grass ranges.

The pro shop is always friendly and I haven’t had any negative experiences with the starters. Also it’s nice to get a cheap normal priced hot dog on the turn and not a $9 dog like at every other course.

As someone relatively new to the game of golf, I had the pleasure of taking lessons from Jonah Johnson, and it was an experience that exceeded all expectations.
From the very first session Jonah was an excellent instructor.
Jonah has a profound understanding of the game and the ability to convey complex concepts in a simple and digestible manner.
He helped me with my grip, swing and little nuances of the game and made it enjoyable.
I recommend Jonah to anyone looking to improve their golf game, whether you're a complete novice or a seasoned player looking to refine your skills.

My wife and I have taken 8 lessons with Jonah Johnson and have learned correct swing technique. I have taken lessons from other area teachers and Jonah excels in all aspects of teaching - knowledge, patience, drills and encouragement. We will continue to take lessons with Jonah as our swing and game improves after every lesson.
I have seen reviews about the course and staff at Mangrove and I can tell you in the 3 years I have been using Mangrove I have never experienced a problem. The staff at both Mangrove and Cypress are friendly and helpful. The course is in great shape and yes it is difficult to get a tee time at Mangrove, when you have 500 people wanting to play and only 300+ slots it's going to happen. The fact that you have 500 people a day wanting to play says something about the course.

Mangrove Bay was in decent shape despite heavy rains (delaying play for 3 hours) Overall drained well, mud balls about 1/3 of time but compensated with lift, clean, place. Greens somewhat bumpy due to lack of ballpark repairs, not a maintenance issue. Same with bunker footprints. Would play again.

The golf course was good. The starter was very sarcastic with me. I found it very rude. It was our first time here. Didn’t tell us we were paired with another twosome. So that led to a nasty conversation on the 1st tee which we did not get to do. Won’t go back here.

I have played golf my whole life and I’ve never been treated as poorly as I did at mangrove bay. The starter whose name is Richard was extremely rude and disrespectful. My buddy and I had a 10:30 tee time and we got to that tee time 2 minutes late. We even called the pro shop and explained to them, traffic was worse than anticipated and we would be about 2 minutes late. They said not a problem we can get you right out. After checking in we go to the starter, 2 minutes late. He said okay park over there and I’ll call you up shortly. After waiting 30 minutes, I went and asked if we were up next being that it was now 11:05 and our tee time was 10:30. Richard proceeded to tell me that he doesn’t care what I think and he was not gonna let us out because we were two minutes late. He told me I should just go get a refund because he wasn’t going to let tee off. So I went back to the pro shop and explained how disrespectful the starter was and he told us to get a refund. We didn’t even get a simple “sorry” from the manager and people in the pro shop. Not only was the staff extremely disrespectful but they wasted my day. Golf is supposed to be a gentleman’s sport, but they certainly don’t have that culture at mangrove bay. I wouldn’t recommend this golf course to anybody.

Love this little course, but today the guy in the clubhouse was letting two-somes buy out full tee times making my wait as a single very long. This should not be allowed at a public par-3 track - especially on a Saturday afternoon.

Haven’t played the course but the driving range is absolutely trash. You are hitting off of sand with maybe a sprinkle of grass every two feet. Golf shoes sink into the dirt. Does not represent the game of golf and I had to scrub my irons after every few shots. Cheap range balls.

The course was nice. Staff was not very friendly. No coolers for beer. Ordered 6 drinks, and when I asked for a cooler, she told me they dont have coolers. Told her I only wanted 1 drink then. She proceeded to roll her eyes when she had to put the others back. What course doesn't have coolers? We are from out of town and had to rent clubs (which were garbage). 18 holes, cart, and clubs cost a little over $100. Would I go back? Maybe...

Snowbirding nearby ive been to both courses.

Remember the 9 hole course is first if going to 18 hole keep driving.

Cypress 9 hole par 3 can be walked easy but power carts available (you must stay on cement walkway).
In and out in hour and a half or less.

Course is challanging enough, is in great shape, greens good shape. Ive played here 4 times no washroom on course.

Mangrove Bay 18 holes public - got dropped into a foresome with some local friendly guys.

Course/Greens are in great shape. Beautiful landscape, lots of water, several bathrooms along the way, drink cart, pop/water vending and clubhouse for snacks and beers.

Only negative is courses mostly at tee box is dry from lack of rain.

Friendly staff
$48 w/cart

I contacted Lanier at Mangrove Bay to organize a golf outing for a conference. Even though it turned out to be a small event, Lanier, Richard, and the team at Mangrove Bay made us feel comfortable and at home. The course is close to the Bay front and the airport. The course is I'm good shape for as much play as it gets (28th most played course in Florida according to the ranger). It's a walk-able course (pull carts available) and overall a great value. Played Mangrove County Course. Course was good especially for the price. Greens rolled nice. The starter was not nice. We were in line behind 2 other carts waiting for our names to be called. With 5 mins left, I went to the started and he said "You didn't check in so I skipped you". Then pointed to some sign in the ground that said in the most condescending voice I've every heard spoken to me "Can you read?". Apparently we were supposed to read all the signs in the ground that told us to check in with him. Would have been nice to hear that when we paid and checked in at the pro shop 45 mins prior. I said "I'm sorry, we are from out of town" and he responded "obviously". I politely asked when can we get out and he said "probably not going to happen now" and told us to pull over and wait. Mind you, we were still not even late to our tee time. We finally got out about 10 mins after our original time. Sad that this one individual started our experience so poorly. I've read other reviews whom have had the same experience with the starter. I've played I've played Pebble, I've played St. Andrews, I've played small par 3 goat tracks in the middle of Arizona... never have I even been spoken to like that before in my life. Spend your money elsewhere until they get that starter situation fixed.

If they management is reading this, please read the other reviews about this course. I'm not the only one. The starter is the problem people won't come back.

I flew in from wisconsin on a Saturday afternoon and the first thing I did was call about rental clubs and grabbed the first Uber I could. Worked with several people through the afternoon and they were all amazing. Unfortunately they only name I had learned was Matt, so extra shout out to him!

It was a very busy day so pace was a little slow at the start, but they all worked with me to allow me to get as many holes as possible. One little issue with me and a golf cart which they were super accommodating, got it switched out, and sent me to finish my round on a nearly empty course. So glad that I chose to reach out and try a different course. More affordable and it much better shape then most courses I’ve played, even with rental clubs. Most definitely will be back!

Painfully Slow! Had a tee time just before 11:00 am, and it took over 3 hours to play 9 holes. No rangers to keep things moving… ugh! I quit after just 9 holes as waiting on ever shot is not fun.

Course is nice but will never play here again because of Bob at the starters box. Twice now he hasn’t let us tee off for checking in right on time because “he didn’t know if we were going to show up.” He’s argumentative, rude and should be moved to another position

Gentleman who runs the driving range and concession is wildly rude. Website says ranges shuts at 530pm, Google says 5pm. There waiting in line at 5pm for balls and he says the already closed out the register for the day. Very unfriendly and aligns with other reviews on here, won’t be back.

I recommend going to any of the other golf courses in this area. I'm not sure how a golf course can operate how this one does. We booked a tee time online and got a confirmation that everything was all set and nothing was due at the club. When we arrived we were all asked to pay $55 per person and that "we don't except any payments online." We were even provided a confirmation that nothing was due. Customer service here is lacking as the guy continued to argue with us. You can find much better rates at pretty much any of the other courses in this area. Don't let this one fool you with there ridiculous business tactic.

They won’t let single golfers book tee times online and tell them they can come in and walk on. But when you go in to pay for a single golfer they tell you can’t play because you don’t have a tee time and it’s too busy. Definitely should let you play or make it so everyone has to have a tee time to play. This has happened multiple time now.

"Player assistant" was very unprofessional. Breathed down our necks for the first two holes rushing us. He didn't take into consideration the 5 people in front of us with children that we had to wait on before we could even start. Very aggressive and when confronted on his aggression he was even more aggressive saying how he wasn't. Talked the regulars who were behind us after the game and they said he's always like that

My brother and I pull up to our 7:37 tee time and Bob, the starter, tells us to proceed. We wait for the 3 gentlemen in front of us to hit and I start to tee off.

Bob and four other gentlemen proceed to scream during my backswing “hey! Hey! Hey! It’s not your turn!”

Bob, who’s clearly friends with the gentlemen, let them cut us and proceeds to kick us out of the front 9. Bob then proceeds to blame it on us and say we weren’t there on time.

After pleading my case that we wouldn’t pair with a 3 some.. I finally convinced Bob to let us play on 10, since so much time was wasted.

We had a 7:37 tee time and didn’t get started until 8:27.

Course is in OK condition — grass is nice, but they haven’t put sand in the bunkers in years.

If you like terrible service and rock solid bunkers this is your place.

Also, if you get Joe as the starter — don’t expect to get any friendly service.

It’s a good course but they need to work on their sand traps. They are currently in horrible shape, to the point that it almost constitutes a free drop. Also the course is always jammed which is a pain. It doesn’t matter if you go during the week or weekend it will always be packed.

Worst customer service experience I have ever had. Every experience with a club member or employee, other than the one with someone who stated they were new, was worse then the last. Management really needs to get the employees to a higher tier of customer service.

Nice well maintained public golf course. Fairways and greens are in excellent condition. 4.5 hrs is the usual time for 18 holes. Sand traps aren't in the best shape but playable. Clubhouse personnel are friendly & helpful. The starter, Bob, keeps things moving. He's an organized nice guy. Green fees are reasonable for the St Petersburg area.

The greens are great, and well kept, with each hole an interesting challenge. My husband and play here often and are lucky to live close by. The golf scooters are clean. It is nice to encounter various fauna native to Florida. On our game, we ethnicity encountered an ibis busily pecking food off the grass, a flock of ducks, a beautiful goose and a gorgeous woodpecker. There was a duck that sat on the cart path. While I stalled and prepared to change my direction in order to avoid him, another duck rushed out of the pond and chased him so he would move. What a beautiful show of altruism in an animal, and you get to see this at Mangrove!

The good news is you can get 18 in on this busy muni in under 4 hours. The bad news is you may still get yelled at. We clocked in at 3 hours and 50 minutes this morning and we were still lectured. Not a polite "sorry would you mind picking up the pace a little" but an extended diatribe from a surly ranger. A good walk spoiled.
