We were visiting the YMCA as a member from VA.
The facility is fully equipped with weights, universal gyms, ellipticals, treadmills , group ex classes and a pool.
Staff were friendly and helpful. The facility is clean. No waiting 5-6am weekdays . Weekends 7am open and also no waiting. Ample parking.
Appreciate the YMCA reciprocity on vacation!!!

I registered online and drove there to view the facility, received a warm welcome at front desk, and received scan tron little card, proceeded to walk down the hall at 3pm and noticed the pool was closed. The front desk guy ran down the hall and asked for my W2 to peek at it. What! The nerve-I felt like it was a private club and not the YWCA. I canceled my membership. smh

I was so impressed I joined on my first visit! Bright, CLEAN & relatively quiet facility (e.g., no loudspeaker music competing with loud group-class music) with state-of-the-art equipment and competent, energetic & friendly staff. Generous group-class selection (in a well-sound-insulated studio) + a ‘roving’ personal trainer who’s available when a member needs help or has a question. Equally important, one can network into a membership discount through a current member who has one:-)

My 10yr old daughter and I had a very troubling experience including bullying towards my daughter.

While we respect the need for swim safety protocols, the way the situation was handled caused unnecessary stress and confusion. My daughter was asked to perform a swim test even though she was clearly swimming confidently. She complied, but felt uncomfortable being closely followed by staff and repeatedly asked to tread water when she was already demonstrating strong swimming skills.

She was then asked to wear a swim band around her neck, which made her feel claustrophobic. When she removed it to breathe more comfortably, the response from staff escalated quickly and unnecessarily. A manager was brought over and reportedly threatened to call the police—on a 10-year-old—simply because she removed the band due to discomfort.

This type of response is deeply concerning. A child expressing a reasonable physical or emotional discomfort should be met with understanding and support, not intimidation. There were many other ways this could have been handled—such as offering a wristband, marking her name, or calmly explaining options.

My child should never have to be bullied and feel intimidated by the staff. That is always unacceptable.

Do not come if you are under the age of 65, staff has no patience for children, teens, or young adults, the hours make 0 sense and the staff will not so politely kick you out 5 minutes before closing. The gym equipment is ok at best for a price that would make you think the location is a premium, there are 2 other gyms within a 15 minute area that make much more sense for the exact same price.

I would give 0 stars if I could… My son was enrolled in the after school program and immediately started having issues. He has medical diagnoses that cause him behave differently from other children. The YMCA was terrible to him, despite me being transparent and asking questions before enrolling him. My son was forced to sit on the floor of the bus that picked them up from the school, which is so unsafe. I don’t care if it is just around the corner. He was also told to shut up, that he was a “bad kid” many times, as well as forced to stand in a corner facing the wall. I am unsure of for how long.. He was also forced to stand there and make eye contact while the lady in charge yelled at him in front of me to which I didn’t allow and simply grabbed him and said that we wouldn’t be back. I filed an official complaint with the YMCA and nothing ever came of it. I have heard them speak so negatively to other children and yell at them while waiting to pick up my own and that made me uncomfortable. I am SO glad I pulled him from their program that ultimately affected my 6 year old son’s mental health.

We just experienced the fernandina Ymca volleyball program with Jamal A South Georgia experience
coaches never showed up players only showed up for games
It was supposed to be a workshop. It was more put all the girls that don’t know how to play And never played before on one team and the traveling volleyball team coach picks all the good ones.

This place is a joke. It’s a babysitter for everyone retired thats got nothing else to do but lean on the equipment and talk to each other. There is no limit on the amount of people they let in at one time so if you get lucky to find parking you wont get to workout or even swim. But by god please donate. This place is used for collecting money with no regard to anyone that actually wants to workout.

I joined the Y slightly more than one year ago and it’s worked out great. The facilities offer a wide array of options for strength training, cardio, yoga/pilates, an Olympic-sized pool, and so much more. The Y team is very friendly and helpful as well, so if you are looking for a great gym then consider the Y!

New member to The YMCA family. In the past, I've always worked out at large Gyms with tons of equipment. This facility provides enough of equipment and amenities to get a good workout. Depending on your goals, you should be able to use what they have. I was able to switch from one location to McArthur. This location has an outdoor pool, and a basketball court. Since I'm now over age 65, this facility is working out. As a former Bodybuilder, I was excited to discover a couple of pieces of equipment that my former location did not have. The workout floor with weights, is not really big, but not too crowded. I found that early afternoon is a time where it is not too busy. People are friendly. Staff could probably be more engaging. Overall, good experience.

If I could give this place more stars I would. The gym and basketball court are amazing, but that doesn’t even compare to the customer service. I had a YMCA membership earlier, but I had to cancel. I recently re-upped my membership and I do not regret that decision. There was a slight confusion regarding my membership when I came back but Stephanie and Melissa were extremely helpful and resolved it with haste and efficiency. Those two people are one of the many facets that make this gym special. I would highly recommend this place to anyone else, especially because of the wonderful assistance that I got from both Stephanie and Melissa. Everyone here is extremely kind of willing to go above and behind to help out; from Rob to every other worker, this is truly a great establishment.

The gym was ok, not the best but not the worst YMCA...the probably with this gym is that it has a boxing area in the gym and it’s not closed during games, so you can hear people hitting the boxing gloves when the game is going on. The staff wasn’t friendly or welcoming, no one said hello or even checked for a membership they just sat at the desk and watched us walk in. My son didn’t have his jersey on, so I don’t know how they knew we were here for a game. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Confirmed hand, foot, and mouth diagnosis from one visit to childcare area on 10/6/18.
