In the last 3 months the price has continued to rise. While I understand the fact it’s being improved the reason it originally went into so much disrepair has nothing to do with its clientele so why are we the ones suffering? Putnam County is one of the poorest counties in FL so why are the prices rivaling much better golf courses in the vincinity? The price of 18 holes has incrementally gone up over the last few months to nearly $20 extra. At this point people are going to start considering the fact that using 2 extra gallons of gas gets you to a much better golf course.

Played July 1,2025. The course was not perfect BUT for the price it was exceptional! It is quiet evident that staff is working hard. Everyone was friendly and my family will definitely be making drive to play this course next time in the area.

A friend of mine and I played this past Friday. We both drove over an hour to play there. When we saw the pictures online we both thought that it looks gorgeous. Lush fairways, beautiful sand traps. The pictures must be pre pandemic. It was horrible. Like hitting off of cement. Tee boxes were bare with weeds for grass. Fairways were brown where grass could be found. Bare patches on most greens. Greens fees of $34, one has to wonder where the money is going. Clearly they do not irrigate the fairways, yet beautiful fountains in the one pond. Try sprinkling some of that water on the actual course. Needless to say we won't be back.

I never post reviews however the experience today at Palatka Golf Club was too fun not to share the good vibes. First off the gents in the Clubhouse were very friendly from the moment we stepped in the door. Was provided a complementary course guide book and was treated like a member throughout the check in. Told to take our time and tee off when we were ready. The course was awesome. Classic DR with small turtle back greens and adventurous doglegs. Many choices off the tee boxes in terms of strategy. Hitting the proper side of the fairway is a premium here as is a signature of Mr. Ross designs. Played the tips and the course played about 10% longer than the yardage indicates due to moist conditions and surprising elevations. Course conditions were not perfect otherwise I would rate 5.0. I believe the course would play a lot different in the summer when the ball could roll more. What a fun experience. This is a poor man’s Pinehurst #2.

You can feel and see Donald Ross on every hole. Nice interesting layout. Small Table top greens. This course is a lot of fun. A great historic tract. If you are in the neighborhood try to get there.
I wanted to give it 5 stars but the conditioning is not the best. If you want great conditions you could go to Pinterest but you aren't playing for $45. A public DR course. Can't beat that!

This is a great designed course. Our first experience was great. Today we booked an 8 am Tee time and got there early and encouraged to start earlier due to a tournament. We were fine with skipping warm ups. Started at 7:30 am just to have another Tee time moved right up our back side. Which was probably the original 7:30 schedule. Poorly managed. Let them play through only to be hollared at on hole 5 to speed things up. Later to be told we should have not played a ball where it lay but throw it in the crab grass. Just a bad experience for mismanaging times with tournament. Just outside the fairways where so high with patchy crab grass , it was difficult to even find a decent hit ball. Hopefully next time it will me better managed time wise and the course.

Played this goat track first week of May. Course is in terrible condition with burnt greens, dry fairways, and dirt tee boxes. The City of Palatka should either close this course or commit to bring it to the design standards and play conditions envisioned by one of the worlds historic golf course designers - Donald Ross

Wow!!! What a fun, challenging and beautiful historical golf course. The golf course was in tremendous condition on the day before the senior Azalea tournament. This was our first time playing Palatka GC and will definitely return. The course and greens were in great shape, and the rough was well kept. A few of the bunkers needed attention but they were grooming the bunkers while we were there. The clubhouse, amenities, and staff were top notch. This was one of the best course we have played in FL, not sure how anyone could give negative reviews. Keep up the good work PGC!

This was a really nice golf course. I went while they were also doing a tournament so it was pretty busy but everything still flowed well around the course. The club house has good food and a full bar. Will definitely be back for more rounds.

Worst trip ever. Went with my stepbrother. (Both new to golfing) everyone was rude and they rushed us to get out on course after being asked where we’ve been when we had already been waiting for 15 minutes; because they were completely disorganized and were incapable of scheduling tee times properly. On 3rd hole I accidentally drove on the green. (Didn’t know) No signs indicating I couldn’t. Then was cussed out and scolded by the LANDSCAPER of all people even after saying sorry and that we were new he continued. I wonder what it’s like to be that miserable in life. He doesn’t do a good job of keeping up with it anyway it looks like garbage out there.

I have played the Palatka Golf Course many times. The greens were always pretty slow in the past. But these greens were really slow. The troubling thing was the course maintenance. The sand traps were a mess. None of them were raked. The grass edges of the traps were not trimmed. The grass on the tee boxes was also not cut. There were weeds everywhere. In fact the grass throughout the course did not appear to have been cut for at least a week. I played the course on February 10th. I really like this Donald Ross course and it could be great if only it received the proper maintenance..

We rented this place for my sister 60th birthday. We have been having milestone birthdays for family members there over 13 years never been disappointed before. In this occasion we signed a contract that read 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. but the lady who was in charge there, I'll leave her name out, told us we had to be out by 10:00. She complained about having to work that day to me and my sister told us we were getting the place at a great price and she was renting it the following weekend for double what we paid. She also happened to be the barmaid drinks for watered down none of the family members have to drinking four or five drinks even at the buzz. All in all if she's there we will never rent it again.

I'm looking for a silver lining in this review, hard to find one. The course is a tight and challenging layout. No water holes, good for me. I was expecting the course to be in top top shape as a junior championship is being played the next 2 days. It's not, condition is dreadful. The greens are spotty, some had piles of sand dumped on them, the fairways were mostly weeds, the fringe around the green was so long it swallowed my ball. I can't imagine how young players can have their skills be judged with the course in such dismal condition.

The coarse is fairly nice. Went out in a Saturday and I totally get that’s a busy golf day, but they had no spacing between people teeing off. They also a couple waking holding up several groups. We left after 6 holes because everything got so backed up. The club house worker has a great view of the tee boxes so I’m sure he can see people are playing on top of each other.

Grass and greens are good. CART PATHS will hurt your back, the ruts uneven paths.

After playing other courses, Palatka's grass is dry, no muddy areas . They have been working on cart paths. It is one of the better courses in this area. It's nice to play.

One of my fav spots to play for so many reasons. Wide open yet challenging around the greens, tons of shade throughout made by some of the most beautiful oak trees around.

Unfortunate experience. 6-somes and 8-somes out there drunk and unable to walk straight. Holding up groups behind them and causing fights with people on the course. No awareness of people behind them. I wish someone could have policed it a little better. Maybe it is a great course, but it was sadly the worst golfing experience of our life.

I am re-evaluating my original review, this course has come a long way and is a Donald Ross gem. If your looking for a manicured course, forget it. If your looking for a fun course to play where you have to use most of the clubs in the bag and think your way around the course, this is for you.

This is the toughest 5900 yard course you will play, domed greens and long par 4’s. It’s a fun course to play and just when you think you have it beat, it jumps up and you end up with a double bogey.

Nice classic Donald Ross track we try and play a few times every month. Great value for the money.

This golf course is under a major decline with bad waste area's, poor cart paths, burned out and inconsistent greens, golf cart brakes didn't work, the secured straps that are supposed to hold clubs became dislodged on it's own and ruining my 3 wood after bag impact on ground. The restaurant closed early at 4:00. Bad rough.not maintained. Overall, I am not going to play here again

The course is a little "rough" these days but the staff is working to get it back to top shape. A satellite view of this course doesn't do it justice. Several holes have some very interesting elevation changes. It actually has a lot of character. Some of the tee boxes need some work, but overall the greens are not bad. It's an old hidden gem of a Donald Ross original and Golfers of all levels can play it from their respective tees. The entire staff and management will always make you feel welcomed and the elevated greens are most challenging and meticulously maintained, as do the fairways, with elevation changes of their own, making it a most enjoyable round.

Played here in high school and it was never this nice. During a weekday the kitchen was open and the chicken salad sandwich was good. Very quick pace on the course without much delay. This course is definitely worth the trip from Jax to play for the price I paid. It's a short course, but very tough for the length. I've played it 100 times and still lose balls.

Well I used the driving range Saturday afternoon with my 10 year old grandson from 1pm-2:30 pm and we were almost hit twice at the range.
I will not go back! The golfers there this day think they are Tiger Woods and were teeing off from far away instead of closer as beginners should. After the 1st ball hit the trees behind me and the second one bounced over our heads and onto the driving range, I watched ever golfer after that who teed off above us. This took us twice as long as normal to finish at the driving range. There were two men who even teed off three tries before moving down the fairway. It was fun to drive the balls into the water, but way too dangerous. The St. Augustine shores is much safer!

Most of the.greens have very thin areas, looks like they are top dressing these areas to smooth them out but recent rains made.them slow and bumpy, grass was thick and hadn't been mown in some approaches and.green surrounds probably related to recent rains. I love this place! I've been coming to this golf course since I was a kid and it has done nothing but improved over the years. The layout of the course as well stay the same. But there is nothing wrong with being consistent. Only thing it's really missing would be the beer cart riding around serving drinks and maybe some light snacks. But they do offer some food in the clubhouse and of course they have a full bar. From what I've tried there the food is pretty decent for what it is.

This course is a genuine gem. I hate giving it 5 because when people discover it, it will get busy and popular.An authentic unadulterated Donald Ross design. A mature well maintained course and inexpensive.
I played the most forward tees with Louisville golf co. reproduction hickory sticks and had a blast! This course should get on anyone's must play list if they are in the area. Fantastic!!! Can't wait for cooler weather to go out again. I'm seriously considering a membership.

They recently hired a company to run it and make it better, but it's been long enough for some results to have shown, and they haven't. Nice people, decent prices in the pro shop, electric carts. The fairways are not in good enough shape for a golf course with unlimited water. They leave rough in grass that makes your ball disappear -- lost. They should cut it to make the course more enjoyable for the public. The bunkers were not consistent, with one having a normal layer of sand hiding hard sand just below. At least it was raked by the grounds crew, unlike others. The greens were in horrible shape, with huge rough patches, bare spots, and slow, slow, slow. If they are even working on the greens, give them at least until June 2012 before you attempt to play here. And as for it being a Donald Ross course, there really isn't anything special about the design other than the greens and greenside bunkers.
