Adjusted my review to 3 because lack of maintenance and upgrading to equipment. I found that some high traffic machines (leg machines) had loose fasteners.
Also, equipment needs an update.. At least 100-120 lb dumbells and free weight bench. This model of gym equipment is not keeping up with the next generations.
Postponing the alleged updates to later is a disappointment.

I have joined several gyms as an adult, but usually ended up not going after a while and feeling very out of place. My experience at the Clearwater Highland PF has been amazing from the minute I walked in to check it out! The staff are all helpful and friendly and truly excited to see you show up, remembering who you are even from the start! They cheer you on, teach you, and learn about your individual needs and journey. I
have never felt so comfortable in a gym. I actually look forward to going and continuing to improve my health! Thank you to everyone there for being who you are and creating this supportive environment!

I’ve been a member for a long time, and the gym used to be excellent. Recently, however, many workout machines have become outdated, and maintenance seems to be lacking. Some equipment is not working at all—for example, the treadmill and sometimes the bikes. This makes it difficult to have a consistent workout.

In addition, the atmosphere of the gym doesn’t feel as welcoming under the current management as it did before. The previous management created a much better experience for members, and I hope this can be improved again.

Please look into these issues so that the gym can return to the high standards it once had.

I just cancelled my membership today. There is an older trainer (that does not appear to have ever worked out) there that has never said hello to me or my partner after going there for over a year. Today, he decided to argue with us about whipping down a floor exercise ball - that goes on the floor. We wipe down every machine we use, sometimes there twice a day. I mentioned that he has never said hello, welcome, or anything of that matter and felt targeted by him as he only does this with us while many many others abuse the cleanliness of the gym. We went to the front desk to cancel our memberships and the new manager guy, Courtney, didn’t even ask why we wanted to cancel. I had to explain to him unsolicited as to why we’re cancelling, mentioning feeling discriminated against - he kept taking over me, defending the trainer without even asking my side of things. We were model gym members- always polite, quiet, and CLEAN! We feel like this trainer targeted us out of either jealousy or homophobia. Don’t go to this gym. The old manager was better. The guys at the front desk are cool. That’s it.

So far I love everything about this Planet Fitness location. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They are also very helpful and have a great attitude. The center itself is very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. What I really enjoy are the workout classes with Trainer Wayne. He is very knowledgeable and informative. I’ve been a loyal member of this gym for over three years, attending five times a week and always appreciating the staff and facilities—until now.

On August 1st, 2025, at around 11 a.m., I had a deeply disappointing encounter with a manager named Courtney at the Clearwater location (1885 N Highland Ave). Earlier that morning, Courtney himself checked me in. About an hour later, I let both him and another employee, Calvin, know I was stepping outside briefly to grab my phone charger from my car. Calvin acknowledged me, and I returned in under a minute.

When I came back in, Courtney abruptly shouted “Hey you, you need to sign in” in a loud and condescending tone. I explained I’d already signed in earlier, and my phone had died—hence the quick trip outside. As I began to provide my last name for confirmation, Courtney suddenly told me to leave and said I was “done for today.”

Calvin tried to intervene and explain the situation, confirming I was signed in and had only stepped out briefly. Despite that, Courtney doubled down and told me he "didn't care," even threatening to call the police if I didn’t leave immediately.

I left feeling shocked, embarrassed, and deeply uncomfortable. This kind of aggressive behavior is absolutely unacceptable—especially from someone in a leadership position. Sadly, this isn’t the first time Courtney has created an unwelcoming atmosphere at this gym.

I hope the management team takes this seriously and ensures proper customer service training is provided, because no member should be made to feel like this.

I’ve been working out at this Planet Fitness 3–5 times a week since April 2025, and I have to give a huge shoutout to the AMAZING trainer, Wayne! Before working with him, I struggled big time with gymtimidation. Wayne is incredibly knowledgeable and patient, and he’s helped me build confidence and learn proper strength training techniques! Not only do I feel better, but I’m seeing muscles I’ve never seen before. Wayne has truly made the gym a welcoming and empowering space for me. All the staff at this location are incredible, helpful, and friendly! Been going to gym's for over 30 years, This is the only Gym I have ever been to that I can say I really like all the staff members. The only thing I don’t like is the leg extension machines are always taken. Women tie them up. They get a set of dumbells and do a set of legs extension then a dumbell exercise Just do leg machine and get out of the way. Share the machine. Don’t block the walkway. It’s 2 exercises. This is by far the most unclean gym I've ever been to let alone a Planet fitness. Been coming here for almost a year on and off because of how close it is to my corporate job. The Manager is a young looking guy who works the morning black hair. He does not mandate a locker room or shower cleaning daily. Which is disgusting because this is a health business that revolves around health and the showers are ALWAYS filled with fruit flys and some short of bugs. Any time I shower here I feel dirtier than when I finished my work out. There is a elderly guy who works the nights always wears a arm band, he doesn't do much of anything but just wait at the desk to scan people in. Now there is a nice African American gentlemen who works shifts night and day and he just seems fed up with management tbh. This gym is a health hazard because of the neglect spent on the machines locker rooms and especially showers. Do better Planet fitness its not hard to just clean your gym.

Originally I gave this gym 4 stars but bumped it up to 5 after witnessing and being part of a dog rescue in the parking lot (see pics)! One of the staff, Kelly, was coming in to work out at the same time as me and we saw two labs wandering who had gotten away from home. We were able to get them into an enclosed area by the dumpsters until their parents could come. Really impressed with the care and dedication! GYM INFO: Easy in and out. Good location, reasonable prices, good hours, all sorts of cardio and weight equipment. They also have massage chairs and beds and tanning. Friendly staff also. Sometimes when equipment breaks down, or even the heart rate monitors don't work, it can take a long time to get fixed. I suspect this is more to do with current supply chain issues related to the pandemic though, then the company itself.

On walking into the Dunedin planet fitness I was very impressed with the setup they have a lot of equipment they have the TV set up really nice and I would have given them five stars however they have a lawsuit waiting to happen in the showers if I didn't normally test the water before I got out of the shower I would have been scolded and probably had 3rd degree burns they have their water supremely hot now whether this is to control water pressure but seriously there's a more safe way to do so or if there's some other reason it doesn't justify that I pay extra membership to have all the benefits including the showers and my hand was almost burned. So I suggest that the owner or the staff or whoever's in charge correct that scalding water before they do get sued by someone who doesn't test the water.

I want leave a review for the Planet Fitness on Highland Ave in Clearwater. The facility is always spotless and the Staff are very friendly. I have been a member for 5 years and would come in and half work out for a few days and then go back to driving by the gym for a few months.
I recently booked a trip which has several excursions that will require me to be in much better shape then I have been years. (Not to mention my doctor has trying to get me to exercise and lose some weight for years.)
So about 5 weeks ago I decided this was never going to happen if I don’t get some help. Went by the gym to enquiry about a trainer (I’ve used one before).
I booked an appointment for the next evening and when and meet with Wayne.
We went over my goals needs and medical restrictions. When we finished about an hour later he had built me a plan that he said would make it possible to reach my goals including a 50lb weight loss.
I spent the next 5 days learning what to do in the gym and how to use the equipment.
I won’t lie it was a tough week but I made it.
My plan required me to work out 6 days a week. For 3 weeks I was like clock wort5:30 am then one day I overslept and decided I’d go later. When I walked in I ran into Wayne and he Saint I saw you didn’t check in this morning.
Wow someone who cares as much as I do about staying on the plan.
After the first 5 days I have followed up with a training session every Wednesday with Wayne for a couple of reasons… accountability and he teaches me something new every week.
I have not missed a session at the gym in over a month and I’m down over 20lbs!
I look forward to seeing Wayne every week and learning something new and sharing my journey with him.
If you are at the Planet Fitness on Highland Ave in Clearwater do yourself a favour and sign up and spend some time with Wayne…

This used to be my favorite location. However it has quickly declined. It seems to be poorly maintained. The machines are outdated and falling apart: Bathrooms are dirty and there is a bad odor everywhere. I do not recommend it for single women or teenage girls. There are a lot of strange characters around. We do not feel safe and comfortable here. Staff used to be courteous and friendly but that has changed too. It is definitely a great place for men and couples.

I am a cargo van driver who carries out cargo work in different states. I came to this place because of your opinions. I make this clear because along the way I was able to stop at other Planet Fitness locations.The cleanliness in the men's bathroom was mediocre, there was pubic hair residue in the showers, The sink sensors do not work well, the showers did not have hot water, the exercise equipment was acceptable, The truth is a disappointment, because I personally do not understand how people dare to rate this place with 4.7 stars, it is disgusting and the service is terrible.

So far, I'm extremely impressed with both the quality and availability of the machines. I love the 30 minute circuit. It targets every major muscle group, as well as incorporating cardio. The staff is nice, too. Finally, the location is perfect for me, as it's on my direct route home from work!

Proof is in the progress! Clothes are getting looser, and muscle definition is starting to show! I've taken a few classes with Coach Wayne, and, boy, does he know his stuff! He is extremely knowledgeable in all areas relating to fitness! Go here because it's cheap. Staff is very nice, but the layout seems like an intentionally poor decision. There are 180+ cardio machines that are rarely close to 20% usage, and there are 4 workout benches by the weights that always have a wait to use. I often tines have to wait 15-20 minutes just to get an open bench.

This location is taking a turn for the worse, starting to seem more like the pasco/holiday location. Cops were here when I came last week lol. Like are the broken locker doors from an employee upset about overnight locks? or one of the weirdos that come here. Came back to edit my original comment about the showers having great pressure, now the cold water is basically turned off at the valve, so the showers only put out hot water. Now water pressure sucks unless you want to burn yourself. Seems like the ac hasn’t worked right in like a year? Biggest disappointment is still having to drive to Tampa or st Pete to go to the gym if you get off work late on Friday night, when you originally signed on with a 24/7 gym location here in Clearwater. Probably time to stop using Covid as an excuse for no longer being 24/7. This used to be a solid location when it was opened. Now seems like there’s one pull-down rope attachement for the 6 machines that can be used for pull downs 🤔

They need to put a full set of dumbbells in the functional training room for those of us that use them, so that we do not have to go across the gym to the meat head side to get dumbbells in two or three different sizes to do our functional training. Overall this is a good gym, I moved from Indiana and my only complaint about this PF, it needs MORE mirrors in the workout spaces, there’s only one big strip of mirrors in the main room and I have to watch myself and my stances & forms to know I’m doing it right and it’s just not possible sadly. It would be 5 stars if it did have the mirrors :/ I come in late and the night staff is very helpful & nice!

Just drove over an hour to this gym to cancel my membership. This is the only Planet Fitness I have ever been to and signed up at. They said they cancelled me in 2021 and transferred me to another location. So I just went out of my way over an hour to cancel and couldn’t even cancel! They tell me I’m cancelled yet I keep getting charged!!!! Then she tells me it was transferred to another location but won’t tell me which one!!! This is a nightmare and planet fitness is literally robbing me. I am getting a lawyer as we speak.

My girlfriend and I unfortunately had to cancel our memberships today due to us moving. This especially sucked because we grew used to being greeted by Calvin almost every single time we went to workout. We’ve never seen him without a smile and are sad to be leaving.

Not typically one to say hi to staff at the front dest when I enter, but when I do and the trainer just looks at me and stares and doesnt respond its not cool.
I didnt make anybody choose to work here

I can still sign up for a free trainer which is this guy who hates me and have him watch me workout dude.

They close early on Saturday Sunday. Gym staff got slightly aggressive with me to leave immediately at closing time on the dot and wouldn’t even let me finish my last set which would’ve taken 10-20 seconds. Would not recommend this location. Choose one which is open 24/7.

About half a year ago I switched gyms to Planet Fitness (Clearwater/Dunedin) and I couldn’t be more glad I did! The facility has a great feel, with all new and clean equipment, and literally something for everyone - plenty of cardio machines, free weights, machines and even a functional training area. The overnight staff, Vince and James, are kind, courteous and always welcome you with a smile. The operational hours are a huge plus for me, with 24 hr availability through the week and 7-7 over the weekends. You have the flexibility of choosing a membership that best meets your needs; the price point for either is extremely competitive, likely cheaper than anything around, and you get A LOT for your money! Checkout this Planet Fitness location, you’ll be glad you did!

Tried to enroll online. The app was unresponsive at times, and it seems that I chose the wrong option. The very next morning I went in person to explain. The manager wouldn’t refund me, and offered me a one month only $10 voucher, which I declined. It would have been good practice to refund me, since I reported it in person the next morning, and then he should have assisted me to enroll for the package I intended to enroll in. Planet Fitness has now lost a client and will never see me again. Unfortunately, my Personal Trainer, who trains at my previous location (as his guest), and was going to proceed training me at this branch under my own membership (he also trains clients at this branch) has now lost me as a client too as an unintended consequence. Well done Mr. Manager at Clearwater Planet Fitness.

Update November 2023- Total body enhancement is still not working after weeks and weeks of going down- it keeps going down and not working for long periods of time. Trainer is no longer at the club and thus no classes and no trainer. The app shows available sessions and I made and appointment- arrived and no trainer and no class. The black card is not worth it when the facilities are not working and or not available. Very disappointing.

Wayne is very knowledgeable and handles each patron on a personal basis, taking into account injuries, age, agility and endurance. I like that he has a nice personality and cares for people in general, he is attentive and goes the extra mile to make your experience better. If he is not familiar with something (for example a physical therapy method recommended to me), he jumps through hoops to find out. Jordan the Club Manager keeps the facility and staff top notch and addresses any issues or concerns in a professional and timely manner.
