Primal Fit Miami is a boutique gym serving Miami Shores, El Portal, and surrounding neighborhoods with expert-led semi-private and private training. Our schedule includes convenient morning sessions at 6, 7, 8, and 9 am, plus a 5:30 pm evening class Monday through Friday. We combine the personal attention of one-on-one coaching with the energy and support of small group training to deliver real results. Matt and his fitness trainers are experts in their field, making your journey both achievable while making you feel at home. His clients span a wide range of fitness goals, ages, and strength levels, making it nearly impossible to find a playlist that suits everyone.

I find it easy to wake up each morning and head to the gym, thanks to the encouragement, support, and great conversations. Billy and Matt are next-level trainers!
Billy is an amazing trainer, always checking in on you and tailoring the best exercises to suit your needs. He pays attention to form and finds the most effective (and safe) way to do things. If you're dealing with injuries (I’ve got a few), he makes you feel completely safe and supported during workouts.

He’s fun, easygoing, and has a great vibe, but he’ll absolutely push you when he knows you’ve got more to give.

Matt is not only a great trainer but also the owner, and you can tell he knows every detail of what’s going on. He’s got years of experience, and it shows in how he runs the space and how he coaches. You always feel like you’re in expert hands.

I finally found a place that makes me feel great every time I leave class. And the best part, I can see the changes in my body. Matt and Billy are two incredible humans and total badasses, can’t recommend them enough.

Life-Changing Training Experience with Matt.

I started training with Matt about 3 months ago because I just couldn’t take the lower back pain anymore. I was low on energy, felt weak, couldn’t stand for more than 5 minutes without needing to sit, and even sitting too long would trigger pain. I was constantly cracking my back for a few minutes of relief, and sleep was terrible—I even changed beds three times thinking that was the issue.

As a former pro soccer player, going from being active 8+ hours a day to barely being able to move without pain was tough. But working with Matt has been a game changer. In just a few months, I feel strong again, energized, and finally pain-free. It honestly feels like I’ve got my life back.

Update - 1 year later. I love this gym even more. It’s become my refuge. I’ve been doing the group session with Billy. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Billy he’s simply awesome! Even in group sessions Billy is adaptive to individual needs. He is a professional who truly cares about his clients. Sometimes I have to bring my kids (9 & 6 yo) and he keeps them busy! They adore him too!

Let me start by saying, I don't do reviews...But, I feel compelled to leave this one.

I have never worked one on one with a personal trainer. This is a first for me. It took me a while to take this plunge. I started working with Matt in June of 2024. In 4 months, I have built a ton of muscle, and lost 5% of my body fat. My body is changing, toned, and getting better by the day.

Matt is AMAZING. Primal fit is one of a kind. The space has everything you need. Matt customizes my workouts, and is always encouraging me to work harder and get stronger (my goal). He has held me accountable. He understand the demands of my very demanding career and raising 3 kids (sometimes I can't get to the gym for a week at a time.) He routinely checks in on me to find out how I am feeling after a workout and throughout the week. He also helps with nutrition coaching.

The group classes are also great! They are small group classes and the instructors are there to encourage you, push you, make sure you are using the proper form. The members are friendly, kind, encouraging.

If you are in the market for a non-conventional gym where people are incredible (trainers and other members), and you are ready to get yourself into the best shape of your life - JOIN US AT PRIMAL FIT!

I was referred to Matt at Primal about 3 months ago. I was barely walking as I experienced severe sciatica pain. I signed up for Matt's private sessions and within a week of stretching, I was walking with less pain. This is the best gym in Miami. The workouts are fun and effective - lost 3 inches in my waist in two months. They focus on working hard yet not over working. Super effective for leaning out. The trainers are stellar people and highly trained professionals. Even though it’s small group training, I get personalized coaching and corrections every time I’m there. Since I started going to Primal Fit my fitness has been getting unbelievably better and better. As a runner and cyclist before joining Primal Fit I was running at a really slow pace. Feeling sluggish. Even in pain sometimes. On my bike too. Not being able to pull much and slow. Believe it or not 2 weeks after joining Primal Fit I immediately noticed the difference!!! My running numbers went down 2 minutes a mile!!! I’m able now to pull much more and longer on my bike and at a much faster speed. (And I have the “strava app” to prove it)
I don’t feel sluggish any more. It no longer hurts when I run and I’m feeling much more energetic! I’ve gained muscle mass which is so important at my age and my body has changed DRAMATICALLY! Primal Fit is more than a gym. I have several old injuries that caused chronic pain and I was very fearful to re-injure myself. In the past I tried Chiro, Physical Therapy & ROLF and had made such slow progress repairing and regaining strength. Meanwhile I gained weight and got out of shape.

Every trainer at Primal Fit (Matt, Billy, Prashant, Alex & Jade) became aware of my injuries and were happy to provide me with alternative exercises and keep an eye on me throughout the workout, especially in the beginning when I was afraid to make a wrong move. I've never been to another gym where the trainers treat you with so much care and pay attention to your form. They're able to do this because of the small class sizes. They're invested in my fitness goals and there is always encouragement for me to push myself but all the trainers are also very respectful if I felt an exercise was too much and because of this I have been able to be consistent and make progress.

Also, it's a joy to be there! It's got a neighborhood feel and in addition to the trainers being awesome, the people who attend the gym are amazing as well.

I've been going to Primal Fit for almost 4 months and since joining I've gained muscle and strength, lost weight and the severity and frequency of my pain is wayyyy down. My body is stronger and more functional and I cannot thank the Primal Fit team enough. Don't think twice, it will be one of the best decisions you make!

I found primal fit back in early 2018 after we moved and needed a new gym. I was intrigued by what Matt has put together with his small group classes and that he used many different fitness modalities (strength, cardio, animal flow, mobility, etc.) which kept things interesting. His programming is safe, well thought, and effective.

For recovery or after you have hit your workouts too hard he also offers mash & stretch therapy to help get you feeling back to normal.

They give the coaching attention and advice you need-it’s almost like having a personal trainer.

I strained my back lifting some heavy weight and was sore and stiff for the past six weeks. After a series of sessions of massages, acupuncture, and chiropractic, the only real relief came from Matt’s stretching session at Primal Fit. Matt has excellent knowledge on how to stretch your muscles, specially the most difficult ones in the lumbar area. I noticed the difference right away when I got in and out of my car. Just finished the Summer Slim Down Challenge. Muscle % up and body fat down :-).

Primal Fit takes a holistic approach to working out with a full body scan to start, focus on varied workouts, proper mechanics, daily movement, nutrition and community/accountability.

I was looking for an intense interval workout with focus on weight training , not the typical cardio/HIIT rushed experience and Primal really delivered.

Smaller classes, great instruction, music at a proper volume do you can still hear the instructor. Great motivating before/after pics everywhere. Clean private bathrooms and showers too. And a snack machine full of healthy stuff!

Def a premium, boutique experience! Highly recommended.

I’ve always been pretty in shape (I grew up dancing and cheerleading) but after graduating high school and stopping cheer and dance, I had no motivation to get myself to the gym and work out. Not only that - I had no clue what to do in the gym. I started coming here in June 2021 to try it out, only expecting to continue my membership through summer. However, I quickly fell in love with the gym and even looked forward to coming every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I started out at Primal Fit in August 2021. As a naturally skinny guy I was never able to successfully gain weight. The exercises are always so unique which keeps the gym interesting so I never get bored of the workouts. To this day, sometimes Billy will give an exercise that I’ve never done before. I also have become way healthier outside the gym because Matt and Billy incorporate nutrition into their program. I have so many tools now, I can intermittent fast when I want to, I know to limit the processed foods that I have, and the best thing is, I feel way better mentally and physically. Another great tool that they offer is their InBody machine. Every month I am able to track my progress without having to worry about how much I weigh. Primal Fit is an amazing gym. They teach you simple guidelines to create and most importantly maintain a healthy lifestyle.They guide you through smart, efficient workouts, while placing a lot of emphasis on nutrition and accountability.

The workouts are intense, fun and challenging. I have been going there for just a few of months, and the results were quick and visible in just a few weeks.

Billy is awesome. He is always there to guide you through the workouts, modifying them if you are experiencing the slightest pain from an old injury, without ever losing intensity. Most importantly, he teaches you how to strengthen your weak spots to get rid of that injury for good.

Matt is great too. He gave me key, insightful nutritional tips, some of which I had never heard before. These tips helped me lose weight faster than ever without crash dieting.

Seriously the best private gym!

The experience with Matt Pack and Primal Fitness has been exceptional. I reached out to Matt 3 months ago. I’m 47 years old, struggling to loose weight. I had gained 20 lbs in the last two years. I felt my weight was out of control. Stress, work, not eating right all contributed. I could not loose weight for anything, not a pound. In fact I was gaining weight at a rapid pace. I thought exercising more would fix everything. It did not. I would exercise 5-6 times a week and not loose weight. The first thing Matt said to me was everything comes secondary to the food. He was completely correct. I started the program. Did the fasting the first few weeks, then transitioned to high protein and low carbs. 10k steps is key and the weight routines. I lost 20 lbs in less than 12 weeks. I feel great. I’m on a sustainable path. I’ve lost inches. I haven’t been able to loose 20 lbs in 20 years. The program works. I did it all remotely. I had a riding accident back in October of 2020, that left me with a fractured tibia and severely sprained knee. Once I got the okay from my doctor to start doing light work again, after 10 weeks of being on crutches and non weight bearing, I went to physical therapy for over a month. I know with any injury, patience is key, but I was at PT three times a week and just wasn’t seeing any progress. My leg remained very weak and my knee pain would not subside. I had heard fantastic things about Matt and his gym, so I called him up, booked an appointment and within a few sessions my leg strength had dramatically improved and also my knee pain had begun to subside. I’ve been with Matt now for a few months and I credit him and his expertise for not only getting me back in the saddle again in record time but also building my strength and muscle up to even better than I was before my accident. I cannot thank Matt enough for what he has done. His knowledge about rehabbing injuries and safely building the muscle/tendons back up really gave me the confidence to know that although my injury was scary, that I would be fine, and better than before. Matt is an amazing trainer & coach! I have been working with Matt remotely/virtually since mid-September as I’m in northern Virginia. I have lost over 16 pounds, lost 5.7% body fat, lost the extra visceral body fat around the middle (so that’s now in the healthy range), and GAINED muscle! Before working with Matt, I had been rather stuck and I knew I needed some new ideas and tools to get my body back to a better place. I started with the Pack doing intermittent fasting and Matt’s “JERF” (Just Eat Real Food) plan; it’s simple, flexible, and you eat good food. Matt has a lot of expertise in his field, and has changed my mind on a lot of things. I’m glad I’ve been able to take in some of that knowledge with the Pack’s weekly Zoom calls. Matt also sends me workouts through an app where there’s a video showing each exercise. I can then input my progress, feedback, and upload videos so Matt can check my form or change things up. He gives me workouts for 3 days a week that are only about 30-40 minutes long. On days when I’ve had to take my son to rugby practice, Matt has given me workouts to do there at the track around the rugby pitch instead. He’s provided customized & super efficient workouts for me! Primal Fit Miami is an amazing fitness facility with a great team of personal trainers. Matt, my personal trainer, is supportive and communicative. I participated in two 30 day challenges which involved fasting and exercise. Their program can be implemented remotely which includes customized strength training exercises. I’ve had a pleasure attending small group training and personal training at Primal Fit Miami for 4-5 months. You feel like a part of family there. I am 68 year old retired teacher and coach after a 40 year career including 94 coaching seasons in three different sports. Two years ago I had major back surgery that resulted in decreased mobility and balance issues. During that time I put on a lot of weight. Matt Pack, a former student and player, reached out to me wanting to help. Exercise based weight loss was not possible but Matt educated me on different food choices and time restricted eating. Matt realizes that the weight loss journey is truly different for each person. He took time to help me find my path. His patience and support have been phenomenal. His experience with weight loss clients guides him to ask the right questions.

I lost eight pounds my first week with Matt then my weight loss slowed down. When I got discouraged Matt asked about my non weight loss wins. I listed my accomplishments. My blood pressure was down, I wasn’t hungry all the time. I was saving money because I wasn’t eating snacks or eating out and I had more energy! I have been going to Primal Fit since August 2016. It is one of the best decisions I ever made and I highly recommend going here. At Primal Fit, you do not get bored doing the same routines every day. Matt and his coaches do an excellent job of making sure you perform an exercise properly and will offer modifications if you have any difficulties. The atmosphere is friendly and encouraging. It is also very much a part of the Miami Shores/Biscayne Park/El Portal community so if you live in the area, you will also probably make some new friends.

I met Matt at my job. He has helped me tremendously. A excellent gym for getting in the best shape of your life. Matt’s knowledge of physiology and how to organize a whole body workout in 60 minutes is well beyond any other gym I have worked out at. His explanations of how to perform each exercise is clear with special attention to proper form to maximize the effect and avoid injury. The combinations of exercises impact all of your muscles and improve core strength at the same time. The repeated encouragement from staff and classmates during the hour keeps me motivated.

I had a severe lower back pain, sciatica was killing me I couldn't do any exercise, and I will constantly eat of anxiety even wen I was not hungry. I've tried everything but nothing was working for me, till Matt Pack the owner of primal Fit and his team took over my life. I los 32lbs, I not longer have lower back pain my sciatica problem has gotten much better I have almost no pain through the week, I no longer eat because I'm anxious, I dont even get anxiety any more, and the best of all I love fasting I'm able to fast 4 to 5 days without getting hungry. I have taken back control of my life. Matt and his team are so motivated and knowledgeable. Training groups are small so you get the individual attention tailor to your physical needs. I trained with Matt back in 2003, and till this day I believe he’s the most knowledgeable trainer I have ever had. A few months ago, I wasn’t happy of where I was physically and I was mentally drained. I took nearly 2 years off from training and I just didn’t know where to start again. A couple months ago, I reached out to Matt for help. He’s helped me knock off nearly 30lbs and having me feel great again. Primal Fit Miami is the best fitness experience I've had.

As a former athlete with a lot of body mileage and lingering back issues, I was looking to challenge myself within a safe environment. As a busy professional with a young family, I also didn't have a tremendous amount of time to dedicate to a fitness / wellness program. I was stuck in a rut doing the same old exercises that weren't producing the results I wanted.

After moving to Miami Shores, I decided to give Primal Fit a try. I got started, never looked back and six years later, can honestly say that Primal has me moving and feeling better at 40 than I did at 30.

Matt and his team do an excellent job of creating (and delivering) programs that are safe and challenging for EVERYONE. The small class format allows you to feed off of the group's energy while being coached to ensure proper form and technique. Further, the groups are amazingly diverse... From athletes to soccer moms (and dads)... All encouraging each other to to their best!

As an added benefit, Primal fosters a tremendous community environment. I have met several life-long friends at Primal and have witnessed some pretty amazing transformations.
