I started personal training with Mike Vansant after a shoulder injury. I had already completed 6 weeks of physical therapy with minimal results. I had limited mobility, strength, and stability in my shoulder. After 6 months of personal training with Mike, I now have full mobility in my shoulder. I’ve built the strength and stability to get back to the movements I love so much! He made it possible to continue working out while working on my shoulder. Mike’s knowledge and attention to detail when it comes to technique and movement, has made a long-lasting impact on my fitness journey. His approach is realistic and challenging at the same time. The workouts were never the same, always incorporating a range of appropriate skill level movements. My main focus with Mike was my shoulder but overall, this is the best I’ve ever felt! The community at STC is so wonderful and welcoming. It’s impossible to not make a friend.

Two years ago, I was referred to STC by a friend. I was reluctant to get started based on some misconceptions I had about CrossFit. However, during my intake with CJ Vila I realized that STC was a different kind of place. CJ assessed my fitness level and we discussed my personal goals. He took time to design a program unique to my needs versus a one-size-fits all approach. Early on, we went spent time on the fundamentals so I could get my form dialed in before layering on heavier weights. As a result, I found myself getting comfortable with the movements quickly versus being concerned about injuries, etc. However, what sets STC apart is their culture and commitment to their clients goals. They truly care and this has motivated me to keep coming back week after week for the past two years. I highly recommend CJ and the STC personal training staff to anyone looking to make a change in their life. You wont regret it.

I typically attend the STC group training classes but have worked with Michael one-on-one over the years when I've needed help with more technical CrossFit movements, particularly gymnastics skills. After working with him, I've seen huge improvements in bar muscle-ups and handstand walking! He's incredibly knowledgeable, realistic, and honest. I can't recommend STC enough. Whether it's someone's first time in the gym, or they're a CrossFit regular like me trying to work on weaknesses, they've created an encouraging environment for both personal and group fitness.

CJ is the man. He started training me a little over a year ago when I was early in my pregnancy. Poor guy had to deal with many mornings of me being nauseous and exhausted... but he always found a way to get me moving and somehow getting stronger while growing a human. I was still coming in to train with him in my 39th week of pregnancy. It was always worth it.
Fast forward to a few weeks after having the baby, I was back in the gym with him a few times a week. It's been amazing to get back into shape and feel more like myself again. I have heard from several new moms about how they have back pain, wrist pain, just pain in general - I'm so lucky to say that hasn't been my experience but I do think that is thanks to CJ. He customized my training knowing what muscles and mobility I needed to focus on to be able to get through (even enjoy) pregnancy and being a new mom. And now, he has been able to customize my training to bounce back from pregnancy and feel more like an athlete again. The investment in training with him through pregnancy was priceless. The investment in training with him post pregnancy, also priceless. Pretty sure the investment in training with him is priceless no matter what your circumstance is.
A little more about CJ as person - he is energetic, supportive, and genuinely wants to make a difference in your athleticism. He takes pride in it. As an athlete himself (he is a beast), this is his passion through and through.

Deciding to join South Tampa CrossFit for personal training was one of the best decisions I've made. The gym is so fun and welcoming, and personal training with Mike has helped me gain more strength and confidence than I could have imagined. It's a welcoming environment, everyone is helpful and easy to talk to, and the personal training is challenging in the best way. Starting out on any workout regimen can be intimidating, but it's so very worth it, especially at STCF.

I am a mom of two little ones and after having my second child I needed to improve my body and energy level. I was very unhappy with how pregnancy affected my body and I was often physically tired from running around my kiddos.
I was referred to STC for private lessons by a friend and it changed everything. I have been taking private lessons with CJ 3x a week for 1.5 years now. I started out knowing nothing about working out… it took me a few months to correctly squat. But now I am able to do push-ups, pull-ups, wall walks, and I can run and bike longer and faster than ever before.
CJ personalized every lesson to me, my experience level, my abilities, and my goals.
Of course there are days that are extremely hard when I want to quit mid workout but CJ knows my limits (much better than I do) and he motivates me to never give up. It is definitely not easy, but the results are so worth it!
I also take advantage of their childcare so I have no excuse not to come in and workout. It has made me a stronger, better, healthier, and more confident mother.
It is great to be able to show your children that exercising is extremely important and part of a healthy lifestyle.
In addition to looking and feeling better, I have made friends at STC and feel like I am part of a community. They host fun events where everyone comes together to mingle (and sweat of course) and the entire family is always welcome.
