I started learning Bharatanatyam from Poornima garu and she is hands down an excellent teacher with lots of patience. I have never learned any form of classical dance, this is the first time I ever started and she made my journey so smooth and made me fall in love with the dance.

The Bharatnatyam dance class was amazing. Poornima is so supportive and patient while teaching. You don't feel nervous or feel a bit left behind at all. Individual attention is being paid to every student. I absolutely loved it.

The dance class atmosphere in general is very positive, inclusive and light hearted. And the ability to showcase what you have learnt in the winter and summer dance recital shows is something to look forward to. Age is just a number when trying to learn to dance and you truly experience that here.

First of all, this academy is run by an amazing woman and she has a team of amazing teachers teaching different genres of Indian dance.

This September 2023 marks 1 year anniversary since I joined Sristhi to learn Bharatnatyam with very minimal prior experience. My Bharatnatyam teacher Poornima Balan is beyond amazing and deeply knowledgeable. She makes every class session engaging and I often leave the class satisfied from the feeling that I’ve learned something new or I’ve gotten better at what I have learned already. When I was just about to join a yoga class, a friend called me because she joined Srishti for Bollywood dancing and am I happy that I followed suit!! With crazy work and family schedules, this class has become a mid-week highlight, meeting with a great group of dance enthusiasts and even more enthusiastic, passionate and graceful dance instructors, Swapna and Moumita! I haven't danced in almost 20 years and was always missing it. Joined Shristi two months ago and the experience has been fantastic. It's an absolute fun way to exercise. Instructors are amazing and accommodating. Students in class with me are all working and with kids and dancing gives us time to relax and have fun. So much camaraderie and helpfulness amongst all. We went to this dance studio and met with Swapna! She told us to send her the songs we want to dance to. After we did, we tried to contact her, left numerous message and voice mail, on my phone I could see that she read our msg but she chooses to not respond. We finally give up and we found another dance choreographer who is helping us with our dance for our upcoming wedding. I think it’s highly unprofessional that she never responded to us.

Sending my kids to Shristi Dance Academy has been a great experience for me. My older daughter was so not into dance at all. I would worry endlessly as other teachers had said no to having her on the class. Other classes will easily refuse my daughter but Swapana gave me confidence that she will get her on the stage and she will make sure that my older daughter opens up and starts loving dance. In the beginning, I got so much push back from my daughter but Swapana was extremely patient, extremely gentle, caring and flexible to teach my daughter at her pace. I am so so grateful for her for what she has been able to do for my kids. Swapana does this for pure joy - she is not one of the teacher who will reject your child to get a mere trophy.
