Excellent experience climbing at Stone, awesome, fun setting. Staff was amazing; shoutout to Nina for going above and beyond in the lead test out, not only to ensure we are climbing/belaying safely but to also provide a ton of great tips!! I also really like the idea of having a cafe built into the gym! Wish more climbing gyms would do this.

Small local gym.
I only boulder, so I can’t speak on the top rope or lead routes.
I’d like to start by saying that the staff are always nice, and the general vibe here is chill and laid back. There are a lot of positives, and they’ve done many things right.
The only reason for not giving five stars is outlined below.
The boulders are pretty good but sometimes a little bit niche, narrowly set for a specific type of difficulty. Some weeks you might come in and find ten dyno problems, and another week you might find ten crimp ladders. (I understand this is purely a byproduct of the setters available and their individual strengths and weaknesses.)
Overall, it’s good for a small gym with limited space.
The gym is very slab-oriented. There are basically six wall sections of slab, interrupted by a very small prow feature that’s only overhung on the bottom section and becomes slab again after about two or three moves. The far-right side of the wall is a wave feature that’s also technically slab on the bottom. There’s very little 40° wall space to work with. Unless you really love slab, you may find yourself defaulting to the Kilter Board after two or three days of climbing.
As far as training equipment, the exercise and weight room is very small but offers most of the tools required for pretty much anything. It gets crowded and warm in there pretty easily, though. (Staff need to be less stingy about turning on the AC in here. And members need to be aware of their hygiene/body odor. Please be respectful of the people around you.)
The hangboard and campus boards are awkwardly placed next to the Kilter board, with the lowest rungs very close to the ground, making campus training strange and inefficient.
I also feel obligated to mention the apparent obsession that Stone staff have with incense.
Dear Stone staff: Incense is cool—I’m glad you like it. But incense smoke is not something anyone wants to inhale while working a bouldering problem in a building that’s already too warm and full of people who don’t wear deodorant. Furthermore, incense smoke contains harmful air pollutants like particulate matter, formaldehyde, and benzene, which are well-researched carcinogens and irritate the airways. Please stop burning incense in the gym; save it for the yoga room exclusively.
Speaking of the yoga room, that and the café, while mildly interesting from a “street view” perspective, feel like a waste of space and a net profit loss for a small niche climbing gym. I rarely see anyone in the café, and the yoga room is typically empty except for a one-hour block, four times per week. (From a business perspective, this is real estate that generates no income and provides no benefit to members for 60+ hours per week.) I really wish the owners would follow the trend of West Coast gyms and install a sauna or other wellness equipment instead. Recovery is very important for climbers, and it feels bad to pay a premium membership fee to subsidize a café and yoga studio that are rarely utilized.
Upon researching, it seems the owners are adding these amenities to their new Jax location—coming soon. (Please don’t forget about us in STA; we like saunas too!)
In closing, I’d like to thank the Stone team for providing a chill climbing gym in a small town with limited options for enrichment activities. It’s important that residents have something interesting and productive to do to keep in shape and stay healthy. I applaud your efforts.

My first visit I was pleasantly greeted by Emily who offered to give me a tour and showed me around the gym. She did an excellent job of walking me through the different areas and explaining some climbing terms I was not familiar with. I am looking forward to becoming a member and getting back to having fun while exercising. Thanks Emily for the excellent customer service!!!

This place is magic. The layout, the features, the staff, the vibe. I brought in my daughter and her cousins this week and we were treated so well! The staff was helpful, patient, and fun! The other climbers were also so gracious and helped give the younger ones tips. Truly an amazing environment and incredible climbing gym.

So thankful for this gym. I’ve met so many wonderful people there, and love the community feel. It’s like one big family! The owner is an awesome family man who always takes the time to say hi to everyone. My husband and I really appreciate that. Our most favorite person is Cody!! That guy is a gem! Our one year old is very stingy with high fives, but Cody finally got one with weeks of effort lol. Now he gets all the high fives! These are just a few things ,of so many, that make this place special. We LOVE Stone! ❤️

A fun climbing gym with great staff and a great community they have built.
The gym itself is amazing. They are continually resetting the routes (on a decent schedule to provide a constant stream fresh problems while also allowing enough time to have projects to work on). They have a great bouldering section. Some fun top rope and lead climbing. A wonderful kids section. A gym. Yoga. You name it.
The community that frequents the gym is incredibly friendly and welcoming and the staff themselves play an important role in fostering that spirit.

Brand new to climbing. However to start off the employees here are amazing. They are the nicest, know how to help, set you up to be ahead, and honestly act like they care for you. They knew my name the 2nd time I came in.
Now for the gym. I can't judge it off of other gyms cause this is the first I've ever been to but they have everything I need and want. A very large bouldering area a d they change it out constantly to keep things interesting and not get bored of the same climb.
I've been bringing my kids in and everyone is just so awesome to them also. When my kids have gotten a open blister, which happens way to much, they are there to tape them up and get them back on the wall.
I am so impressed by this place I have nothing negative to say at all. Even the people who climb here are awesome and super nice and helpful. Just an awesome experience all around. 5 stars isn't good enough.

Good place to climb. Everyone is chill.
Don't leave your stuff you won't get it back.
Used to have a $10 one time charge pause membership thing wich was nice if you were leaving for a couple months and made sense since they had to donsome extra work to pause the card auto charge etc. But now it's $10 every month to pause your membership so unless it's a very short pause it will cost more than the sign up fee. Also told them to cancel it then and they said "you have to go to our website and fill out a form to cancel"
The gym is awesome but the Buisness practice is sub-optimal. They do have a 10% military discount.

This was my first climbing experience ever. I was excited… but mostly intimidated and scared…
BUT I loved this place!
The whole staff was so friendly and approachable! Place is clean and has a variety of each level that is easy to navigate and understand. Not to mention the overall crowd- kids (better than you’d think), adults, and everyone in between interacting incredibly well. Seems the community of climbers here are all helpful and courteous to one another.
Just real laid back people and a fun experience! I can see it being cool to just do one day or get into it as invested as possible. It was nice (as a newer mom who never gets out and has def never climbed) to go have fun and interact with all of these people and have a little self paced physical challenge! I was really able to pick up on the way things work quick. With little technique and movement tips from other climbers- I was able to actually do way more than I expected! Love how the climbing etiquette works, the nice employees, and crowd this place draws- it’s all great! ❤️

Kudos to Ms. Harper and the rest of the crew at Stone for putting on such an awesome summer camp! This is the second summer both of my boys have attended and it’s a certainly a highlight. They get to climb till their heart’s content in a safe and fun environment, while also building new friendships. My kids come home each day happy, stronger, and tired - a true sign a good day. I just started climbing about 4 months ago and am now addicted. Thanks Stone! Haha. Seriously this is the best place to have an amazing time, challenge yourself and get a great workout. It’s a family friendly space, they even have a weight room (for members) and a Grom (kid) wall upstairs. We typically bring the whole gang when we come. (All 3 kiddos). I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fun workout or just a fun thing to do as a family!

Great climbing gym with even greater service.
I brought my family and specifically wanted my kids to have some fun being exposed to rock climbing for the first time, this place was perfect. Not only do they have a very clean and new facility, but the kids section was perfect for building confidence all on their own! Then I took my oldest son (6yo) down to the bigger bouldering section, he did so great!
Meanwhile, the entire time Zach not only was helping other guests, but he was so encouraging and willing to help us feel welcomed and enjoyed. After some training, my son did top rope and made it all the way to the top!!! I was so proud of him and he LOVED it!! I think we might have a new adventure hobby for him!!!
I am an entrepreneur and I always hold a high standard and value for people who serve with excellence, Zach is absolutely someone who exceeds those standards. If I had business in St. Augustine, I’d be trying to hire him away, people who serve well are rare and worth having and keeping.
Thank you Stone for having great people!

I really enjoyed the gym! I am a member at central rock gym in New England, so I was visiting. Only $20. This gym’s bouldering wall was really cool, a lot of different options - roof climbing, slab, overhang, etc. It’s mostly bouldering, but they also have top rope and lead. Their merch is cute, and they have a Kook cafe! If I lived there I would definitely get a membership.

Amazing gym! Vibes in here are always on point. They have a good selection of modern climbing holds and volumes. Most of their holds are from Kilter which I think is amazing as they are the best climbing hold manufacturers. Owners are very passionate about climbing and are very encouraging. Staff are very polite and friendly. Their wall features include a prow, a cool slab wall and a massive cave. They have a full sized Kilter board in their training area which is the best training tool in my opinion. Fun setting with challenging and engaging boulders for all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner or an Elite climber, you’ll have a fun time at Stone.

Stone is my second home. I was brand new to climbing when Stone opened and I took a shot at what I thought would be a fun alternative to a traditional gym. What I didn’t anticipate was the positive, welcoming, encouraging culture I was met with at Stone. In less than a year they’ve managed to cultivate a genuinely great community of people - both staff and members/guests. The routes are challenging and fun. The environment is inclusive, safe, and accommodating. They offer yoga, a climbing area for kids, kilter board and training area, as well as coffee and beer via Kookaburra.

I climb regularly and I came to this gym for a day trip as it’s a little over 1.5 hour for me to get to. I would definitely come back. I was skeptical to go because in the pictures it looked like a lot of bouldering, and I mostly like to climb rope. They had plenty of top rope and lead climbing options of varying grades, so great for different skill levels. I enjoyed the route setting as well, and the grades are comparable to most gyms I’ve been to, so you can come and expect to climb grades in your normal range. While I don’t Boulder much, the few problems I did try were good, and the crash padding was also good. The workers were nice and made the belay check off easy and quick.

Went to Stone hoping to top rope. This place should really be advertised as a bouldering gym. Does not have harnesses to rent although there is a sign for them and a price. If you have never been and want to top rope or lead climb, call ahead to see if you can test out. They only have one person at the facility to test people out and when we came he was doing a private lesson and told us we would have to wait 1-2 hours. Bouldering area is great and climbs are accurately graded for difficulty. Had a good time but disappointed we were not able to top rope.

Our kids lovvve coming to climb in the kids area & watch us from above. A strong sense of community in this special space, a place to come to get strong while having a blast!

I wish there was a 6th star option for a business like Stone Climbing Gym. This is by far the coolest and most professional climbing gym I’ve ever been to. The staff and Eric & JT (the owners) are the nicest people you’ll ever meet. My girlfriend and I have only lived in St. Augustine for a little over a year now and they drew us in on day 1 and made us part of their family. Come test your skills on these walls. They’ve got routes for entry level climbing and routes for very experienced climbers (including some really cool caves). If you’re ever in the area (and by area, I mean all of Florida) I really suggest you set foot in Stone climbing. I mean there’s a coffee shop in the gym…. That says it all. 💛🙌🏽

I visited this gym one week after it opened, and I'd say it's fantastic in every way. There is a huge bouldering area, with limited slab but tons of overhang including a large cave. The top rope routes are limited but include grades from 5.8 to 5.11b. The lead only routes are very nice, up to 5.13b, again limited in quantity. Overall the route setting and modern holds make a five star experience There is a children's area of color coded boulders, very good route setting for the kids. They have a few treadmills, weights and stair machines as well as a variety of hangboards. There is a cafe on the premises. They sell basic gear. A day pass is $18. They have good quality rental gear. The staff is really friendly and they do not "hover" checking peoples gear and stuff. They are a super cool bunch happy to help out or leave you alone. Overall I'm impressed with how much of a punch this relatively small gym packs. I wish them good luck on this amazing new climbing gym.

So I know this establishment is not even completely built yet. However, I had an opportunity to sit down with the owner and I am excited to watch his vision take life. He has a burning desire to provide our community with an amazing facility that will invigorate the hidden climber in all of us! I know my 2 sons are excited to get on the walls!
