I was referred to David several years ago by a client of his. I was discussing my husband’s back pain and was encouraged by this client’s positive results using David to manage his own back problems. After an evaluation David was certain he could help him. My husband had seen his orthopedist and gone to physical therapy, had several non invasive back interventions. But none of those lasted. It has been over two years and he has minimal back issues as long as he stays faithful to his regimen with David. He was initially reluctant to invest the time and money necessary to keep his back healthy but after such positive results he is a regular client as am I.
David’s main focus is maintaining our functionality through strength training. It has been a commitment but the rewards are maintaining an active lifestyle as we age. Added bonus is that David is truly interested in you as a person and makes the hour pass quickly. He has past experience also as a golf pro which is another bonus. Some of our sessions have golf swing improvement tips.
It’s not easy for many of us to stay motivated and stick to a regular routine of exercise. Doing it by yourself makes it more difficult. David’s gym is intimate enough that you feel you are with friends every time you work out. The results are that my husband and I both have noticed that we have
maintained our strength and fitness better than most people in our age group. It is true that if you don’t use it you lose it…some sooner than others.

After struggling with Physical Therapy, cycling, CrossFit groups and a few personal trainers, I found David via Google search and booked an intro session. From the beginning, David watched the way I moved and suggested some ways I could have better balance and mobility. We eased into weight training and after a few months, I was walking comfortably and completely normal. Few more months of weight training and I’m crushing personal best lifts from my 20s (30 years ago). I no longer stumble, trip nor fall. My energy is high and I’ve dropped over 30 pounds in the process. David is punctual, professional and absolutely talented in his craft. He is a fun guy to be around and motivates his clients safely. I used to question him on his exercise routines, after dropping several shirt and pants size I now just ask what to lift next and how many times. His help had given me a new outlook on life Thanks David!

I've been working out with David for nearly a year now and I am very impressed by his coaching. I've worked with some high rated trainers, but never seen a difference like this. He pays close attention to the way you move along with any health issues to train you personally. There are two of us that workout together with David and each have different routines based on our needs. My overall movement, strength and confidence has improved tremendously in less than a year!

UPDATE: Been with David now for over 2 1/2 years and still very happy with the training. I continue to feel better and see improvement.

“Movement is medicine.” This is something you’ll come to realize if you start training with David.

I’ve finally found a trainer that gets results without injury! As a former athlete and cross fitter, I have increasingly come across trainers who push too hard or are worried more about making PRs rather than meeting your functional and fitness goals. That is certainly not the case at Strength and Movement SRQ!

David is knowledgeable and encouraging, never hesitating to adjust your workout to suit your goals and fitness needs. This is the first time I’ve had a trainer give me a killer workout without exacerbating my previous injuries. He’s the best! Try him out and you won’t regret it!

I came to David late August, 2018, as an overweight self-conscious teenager who wanted to lose weight, but didn't know where to start.

Not only did David help me through his workouts and nutrition advice, i was able to lose 80+ pounds in around 5 months. I have also regained a lot of confidence and and no longer have that "fearful" feeling in large crowds.

He is always changing up the routine and very personalized for your goals.

I would highly recommend David!

I lived with some sort of knee or back injury for the past 9 years. Been coming in consistantly for about 10 months and I have had no issue with ether while hitting new PRs and being able to compete better with high level sports.

David is the best trainer in the area! I have never enjoyed working out until now. In only about 5 months, I am already a much stronger and healthier version of myself. The environment is great too!

I have been working out with David for a little over a year now and am still seeing verticle gains. I started out with a 22" verticle and now I have a 34" verticle touching 10'11". I can't wait to reach that 11' mark.

I’ve been working with David for about 2 Months and he is a very good trainer. He is very knowledgeable and has really helped with my vertical leap and strength and one of least intimidating gyms I’ve been too, like there’s no guys that look like they can bench press you😂.

I’ve been training with David @ strength and movement for a few years now, and I have more than tripled my strength! He challenges me to go farther than I think I can handle yet knows when I am too fatigued to go up in weights—even if I really want to get that PR! He is friendly, kind, and knowledgeable.

I’ve been training with David here for 4 years. I started training with him before I went to college for volleyball and he increased my approach vertical by 5 inches and I was in the best shape of my life. I have continued with David even after my college career because I continually see results and stay healthy as he focuses on correct forms of excersize. I don’t believe there is a better personal trainer in our area!

I have been trianing with David for about three months now, when you first walk into the door you will be greeted and giving an assessment as well as review some of your goals. He does an awesome job creating a unique and personalized work out where you’re able to build strength and confidence to try a new moves in the gym. I am coming from an athletic background and I like the way that he challenges me and encourages me in a way that I feel confident when trying new strength building exercises. The semi private sessions are a great way to meet like-minded individuals will still focusing on your individual goals.

I’ve been training with Dave at Strength and Movement at least once a week for over 4 years. He’s helped with not only recovery from multiple back injuries, knee issues, and weak ankles, but gain more quality muscle and mobility than I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is great, all the people training there, want to be there and I believe I will continue to train there for years to come. Can’t recommend Strength and Movement enough!

I have been training with David for almost 2 years now, and my progress has been more than I could have asked for. Prior to starting with David I did CrossFit for almost 5 years, never learning proper form and plateauing on all my lifts. David has helped me fix all my old bad habits and I have added substantial weight to all my previous numbers....all while being injury free! When starting with David I told him my goal was to gain muscle, lean out, and get strong. I have done all 3 and more! The gym is full of friendly people and the environment is not intimidating. Whether you are just starting your fitness journey or are an experienced lifter, David has something for everyone!

David is organized, personable, and knowledgeable. His approach is not cookie-cutter. He's constantly learning and honing his craft, and then applying it to his clientele.

I participate in his semi-private sessions, and I think it's an incredible value. It's great to just show up and have good personalized programming waiting for me.

I also really appreciate his prioritization of long-term and sustainable fitness. I play beach volleyball and basketball regularly, in addition to my job as a software engineer, and he helps keep me going injury-free. That's not to say it isn't challenging. He listens to what I say and tailors accordingly when I have short-term goals in mind such as upcoming competitions.

I'm stronger and more durable at 40 than I was at 35 thanks to David.

I’ve been training with Dave for more than 3 years now. He doesn’t just focus on getting in shape or getting stronger, but teaches me the correct form for each exercise so that I don’t hurt myself now or in the long run. I’ve always had issues with back pain, but learning how to lift correctly and strengthening my back through the exercises Dave has me do have helped a lot.

I do semi private sessions with Dave. He is very organized and I always feel like I get enough instruction and focus from him even though he is working with several clients at once.

I was able to continue to train with Dave during pregnancy and after. He was great with making adjustments and modifications as necessary during this time. I felt that I was able to maintain a lot of what I had worked toward in the years prior and it made a huge difference in getting back in shape after having the baby.

David is extremely knowledgeable and personally focused. Each individual is assessed to determine goals and the appropriate steps to achieve the maximum result. Whether you are 18 years old and have athletic aspirations or just interested in getting into a healthy routine to keep your body functioning at a high level. David Virkus is extremely professional and has invested his career and future into working with local groups and individials on the west coast of Florida.
