⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Big House in Tavares, Florida, has become one of the defining landmarks of Central Florida’s AAU basketball culture — a facility that reflects both the depth and passion of youth sports in this region. Dozens of games are scheduled here every week, and the atmosphere captures the true spirit of competitive basketball.

The complex itself is impressive — bright, clean, and designed for serious play. The courts are pristine and professionally maintained. In the front section, you’ll typically find three courts, while the back area expands into a larger arena space with several more, often bustling with tournaments and showcases.

There’s a full concession area inside offering drinks, snacks, and light meals such as breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Note that outside food and drinks aren’t permitted, but the on-site kitchen makes it easy to refuel between games. During events, you’ll also find vendors selling basketball apparel and accessories, adding to the experience.

Admission is well organized: players enter free, while parents and spectators pay a daily or weekend rate (wristbands provided). Even children who are not competing must pay entry, with the exception of toddlers in strollers.

As a parent of a player who competes here regularly, I can say the location is incredibly convenient — close enough that I can drop my son off, head home to handle things around the house, and return to pick him up.

The staff is professional and clearly passionate about what they do. Their attention to detail shows in how well the facility is cared for and how smoothly events are run.

Overall, The Big House stands out as a cornerstone of the youth basketball community in Central Florida — clean, organized, and built with excellence in mind. It’s a must-visit venue for any family involved in AAU Basketball culture.

Don't appreciate being forced to buy ice (ice pack that cost $1) for an injured player. Be very prepared before coming to this place. As you can see from the owner's response below, unprofessional. Again, be very prepared before coming to this place.

This is the first time this has happened to me where I paid around 300 dollars in food tickets to my family it is disrespectful to tell you to sit down and shut up for motivating your children in the team and threatening the team with technicalities basketball tournaments are not a church there is an anedraline intensity guide your referees that families come to enjoy watching their children play I was able to witness how this referee to a member of my family he went to ask him something and I told him I don't talk to people I talk to a coach an older person it is disrespectful you know who you are skinny gray hair Latino you are an ill-mannered person respect people and older people just pure adrenaline and respect defend yourself and today was a bitter day

A young girl playing volleyball here fell and hurt her arm, and THEY CHARGED FOR ICE! For an injured child! They also don’t let children playing sports bring their own water bottles, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

ETA: you have concessions where I’m sure there is free ice, but regardless, any compassionate human would just hand over the ice pack to a girl crying with a possibly fractured arm rather than being concerned with ringing up the $1. Whoever responds to these reviews just makes the whole place look even worse.

Worst place to ever have a tournament. Not staffed well and way overpriced. Staff is uncooperative and rude, parking is an absolute disaster. $25 each for family to watch a camp game that is not even officiated properly? Don’t bother with camps our tournaments here this is a shameless cash grab.

Out of all the area facilities we play in, this is by far the worst. The bathrooms are frequently out of toilet paper, the staff is not friendly, way overpriced, so greedy you can’t even bring in your own bottle of water, and the refs at the facility must have gotten their certificates online or something. No consistency, lazy, and deciding games . 25 years in AAU and we will be switching Teams to avoid playing here. More like a rec center than elite basketball.

I have never seen a more poorly run venue for basketball tournaments. Their security is inadequate. They check bags but do not have metal detectors. There was a huge fight on the basketball court with kids and coaches and parents. Tavares police had to be called. They make the players pour out their water bottles because there could be something other than water in there.

Day Two at the Big House, another adult
Fight during the tournament. This venue has a real safety issue. They need to hire off duty law enforcement. The city of Tavares should mandate that or Lake County should pull their business permit!!

I found this facility to be super clean and accommodating. The courts were impressive. Unlike others, I found the food prices reasonable. They allow an athlete to bring in a bottle of water. No place can stay in business without charging for food and drinks. Their pri is are cheap compared to a lot of venues! $5 admission is extremely reasonable.

This facility is truly a “hidden Gem” located near the town of Tavares, FL.

I visited this facility on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Upon entering I was immediately impressed with the cleanliness of everything; the people at the front desk, and everyone I met here were all very friendly and helpful; and the dining area was clean, food/drinks are competitively priced.

There is a well-equipped fitness center with pricing lower than many other well-known clubs. There are multiple courts for hosting basketball, volleyball and pickleball tournaments and there is even an indoor baseball field on the 3rd floor.

I thank the ownership for making this facility available for indoor Pickleball. The heat and humidity here in central Florida can be brutal in the summer.

Edit:
This is not a “top notch facility” as the owner describes. The bathrooms are frequently out of paper, some of the stall doors are broken, and last year the ac was broken and my kids had to go through their whole volleyball camp in sweltering heat with no refillable water bottles. And those prize floors of hers look pretty dinghy.

This place is called the Big House and it’s aptly named, because it’s more like a corrupt prison than a sports facility.

If you’re not into sketchy places that feel like a prison, then stay away.

I looked into the possibility of getting something else going and it’s not feasible right now, but someone should. The kids deserve better than this.
Original:
I’ve been taking my kids to a volleyball camp at this location for a couple years. The facility itself could be top notch, but the rules of the facility and the way they are enforced by ownership borders on abusive. It’s a really nice place that’s not fun to be in, at all.

My family will never attend another event at this location and from the other reviews I can see that we’re not alone.

Maybe it’s time to gather a few investors and make sure the big house gets a little house portion of the market. Seems to me that there’s an opportunity here for anyone with a better attitude and better appreciation of their community.

This is by far the best indoor sports facility we’ve been to. Not only is it clean, the staff are all very friendly and professional. We have been to numerous facilities for volleyball tournaments, and this one is hands down the cleanest. We appreciate the strict rules. For the teams traveling to this facility for tournaments: If your coaches didn’t send you the rules ahead of time, or they did but you didn’t bother to read them, don’t get angry at the staff. The rules are also posted clearly on the doors before you go inside. Thank you Big House for a beautiful facility to train in!

We recently played in a basketball tournament here. The facilities were clean, the teenage staff was kind, the director was atrocious. Security insinuated I was lying about my son’s diabetes, he was almost denied access to his diabetes supplies as a Type 1 Diabetic. 2 granola bars and an applesauce pouch for lows caused an uproar. I was told with private facilities they aren’t required to follow ADA laws-and they are. They let me take it in but when we left and came back I put the snacks in my pockets and there was not a problem. Anyone could’ve walked in with a gun in their pocket or on their person and they were concerned about 2 granola bars and an apple sauce pouch that could save my kids life. The director made sure to point out her brother built this with his “own money”. We were denied bringing in water for our teams. From what I’ve learned about the great Chet Lemon, he wanted this to be a place for community. From my research I can see he had an amazing career and did a lot for this area and I am sure he was rolling in his grave at the way people were treated at this event, packs of gum and mints had to be thrown away to enter, unless you put it in your pocket. They were more concerned about making a dollar than anything else. $70 for entry, most tournaments are $40. His families pockets are good and fat after this weekend but their hearts are definitely empty and I am sure he’s ashamed.

I am attending a Jr EYBL tournament this weekend at this facility. The facility is clean, the courts are nice, and I feel safe with the bag checks upon entry and the number of security guards. With that being said like others who have left reviews, I can’t say much more positive. This facility is too small for a tournament this size and does not have enough seating for families. There’s black mats with some chairs on them between courts and I witnessed a security guard ask a man to move a chair back to the mats because he had moved it to watch his child play. He said the chairs had to stay on the mats… then you need more mats and more seating. More areas for the kids to warm up and meet as a team. Like I said, too small for this size tournament. Now let’s talk about the ridiculous rules… kids not being able to bring in their refillable water bottles, being told to throw away gum or any food items upon entry (because you certainly aren’t walking all the way back to your car), you can only have water or Gatorade on the gym floor (what’s the difference in Gatorade and a soda… nothing but marketing), our team manager was trying to get to the concession stand quickly for a water for our coach when told she couldn’t walk on the left of the hallway to pass by some slower walking people but no one was coming on the other side… All of this may seem small but I have traveled the country…. GA, TX, OH, AL, TN, and other facilities in FL and never been treated this way. You can claim safety like you have in other responses but the reality is that’s not entirely true. If you want to keep food out, so be it but understand some things are the cost of doing business. You don’t “force people” per your other response to buy the crappy food but you don’t leave too many options for some. Thankfully we could leave. There were MANY talking about how restrictive the rules are. The noise was too much. Kids and coaches couldn’t hear whistles and games had to be stopped a lot due to balls rolling on other courts simply because the “Big House” isn’t big enough. You need to do better. Reviews are here to help you but can only do that if you listen. Based on the responses to other reviews and my experience this weekend, you aren’t interested in that. If you look at my profile you will see I’m not a negative poster… typically don’t say anything unless it’s nice but this weekend has been over the top. Parents pay a ton of money and so do teams to be here. The way this place is run isn’t acceptable.

We attended a basketball tournament at The Big House and enjoyed the weekend. However the admission cost was quite high for attendees that want to support their athletes. The facilities were clean and organized. There were bag checks at the entrance and unarmed security present the entire time the facility was in operation. Actually, I had a great experience because at the end of the first day I actually lost my wallet at the final game. It had slipped out of my short pocket as I was rising from my seat. I did not notice until after I had left the facility though. I did call but the line was unmanned at that time of the day. I returned for our second day of basketball and checked in with security who had located the wallet and placed in the safe for me. I was very grateful for the professionalism of the security staff. This could have turned out to be a terrible weekend. Thanks for the great job to the security manager who took care of my valuables.

The facility was extremely clean, bathrooms were immaculate, staff was very kind and always greeting you. Concessions were very VERY reasonably priced. They have policy on bringing in your own water bottles, however I did not see any problems with this our girls had everything they needed, what I liked especially with this venue is the seating, parents not needing to lug around stadium chairs or padding, etc so nice! Ample amount of seating! We did have our bags searched, but nothing crazy. There even was a lady who set all of our girls up at the end to take their team picture, I dont know her name but she was on it and knew EXACTLY what to do and how to pose the girls and take charge! We loved her! A++++ for this facility. Give it a chance! Super clean and would be delighted to go back!

Review of The Big House

They certainly got the name right—“The Big House” feels more like a prison than a sports venue, especially with the way they search your bags as if you’re smuggling contraband rather than simply bringing a snack.

As a grandmother here to support my granddaughter, I’ve learned to leave my bag in the car to avoid the invasive searches. At first, I assumed these checks were for the children’s safety, but no—it’s all about keeping outside snacks, drinks, gum, and even mints out, just to force attendees into overpriced purchases at their snack bar.

Parking is another nightmare. Cars are lined up along the street and even onto sidewalks, making it difficult—if not impossible—for the elderly or those with mobility challenges to navigate safely. If you forget something in your car, good luck trekking back and forth.

It’s disappointing to see a venue put profit over basic convenience and consideration for families and spectators. The ownership should rethink its priorities and focus on creating a welcoming environment instead of nickel-and-diming its guests at every turn.

Disappointing Experience at The Big House Volleyball Facility

Our experience at The Big House volleyball facility was incredibly disappointing, primarily due to the excessive restrictions clearly designed to maximize profits rather than support the athletes and their families.

From the moment you enter, it feels less like a sports venue and more like a high-security checkpoint. Bags are thoroughly searched with an intensity that seems absurd for a youth sports facility—all in an effort to prevent families from bringing in their own food. This policy is particularly frustrating given the subpar, overpriced concessions they force you to purchase. When children are involved, proper nutrition should be a priority, yet families are left with little choice but to eat whatever low-quality options are available on-site.

In January, the facility was freezing, with parents and players bundled in blankets and winter coats. Instead of maintaining a comfortable environment for athletes, The Big House appears more focused on cutting costs to maximize profits, with little regard for the well-being of the children who compete here. It’s hard to believe that a place claiming to support youth sports would operate in such a way.

To make matters worse, the management’s responses to critical reviews are often rude and dismissive, rather than addressing valid concerns with professionalism and care. If the facility is so intent on increasing revenue, perhaps they should consider raising admission prices slightly to account for necessary improvements—rather than making families suffer through these restrictive and unreasonable policies.

Before offering a generic reply to this review, management should take a moment to reflect: Is this truly an environment where young athletes can thrive and enjoy the sport? Based on my experience, the answer is a resounding no. Unless serious changes are made, the only way to hold The Big House accountable is for clubs to take a stand and refuse to support a facility that prioritizes profit over player experience. The owner should be ashamed.

Beautiful facility sure. However the rules and restrictions for guests are absolutely insane. We travel often for other competitive sports and athletes are always allowed to bring in their refillable water bottles and protein snacks in their bags.
As for spectators sure you can have them purchase from cafe. But throwing away mints, cough drops and even gum is far too restrictive. If we can carry it on an airplane we should be able to have it in the building.
I feel bad for the employees that have to enforce these ridiculous rules and are then confronted by angry parents.

Do better. Be better.

The experience trying to get into the facility is awful. There was no way to purchase tickets prior to the event and we had to wait while only one line was open. The security guard was yelling at all the players about what line to get it. There were no signs directing players or parents. My two YOUNGER sons were playing and they went through the lines alone (while we were trying to get tickets) and then had to go inside by themselves (not knowing where to go) because we were still trying to obtain tickets. I heard the main security guard yell at one of the players "what don't you understand." As the 50+ parents are trying to obtain tickets and players are going their their separate lines they would then turn kids away if they had a water bottle of any kind. You can only purchase drinks from inside. This place has changed so much in a year from when pur older son played. The level of professional is far below and I am disappointed in how downhill this facility and the process has went. They host a lot of families every year and for the low level of service it's really . They need to obtain a more efficient system and step up the game.

One of the worst venues I have ever been to. I have worked in the event and venue industry for over 20 years and this one takes first place in a overall bad experience.

I've read the other reviews and I find it comical that you compare yourself to professional venues when it comes to your policies, last I checked you are hosting youth events not NBA, NFL, NHL or MLB events. Most people expect no outside food and beverage at those venues. At youth events drinks and snacks brought in by spectators is pretty normal. Heck the Ocean Center in Daytona allows it for their events and they have really good concessions and plenty of options. Your concessions are grossly overpriced, the lines were long, not enough seating for those getting food, and the quality is definitely not great.

When it comes to your staff, I have never encountered such rude staff in my entire career, I think maybe one person had a good attitude and a smile and he was sitting at the door walking into the gym, although he did have ear buds and was on his phone quite a bit. You can ask people or inform people of your policies with out being rude. Kindness goes a long way and the staff definitely doesn't exude kindness.

The comment in one of the reviews where you again compare yourself to a professional venue in regards to heating and cooling is laughable, that and you blame the temperature on the fact it's a concrete building and it holds cold and to dress appropriately, again comical. So in the Summer when one review said it was so hot and unbearable how are they supposed to dress appropriately? I have never been to an indoor venue where I've had to wear a coat and hat unless it was a hockey arena and I sure didn't see any ice in there.

I will say it is a beautiful venue and is well kept but you all have a long way to go in regards to being a top notch A+ venue. Stop penny pinching, hire and train friendly staff, have more options for food and seating and for crying out loud turn on the heat or the AC.

My experience at this venue was disappointing, especially as someone with a disability. Handicap parking is extremely limited, and by the time I arrived to watch my granddaughter play, I was forced to park in an open dirt lot. Navigating that terrain was very challenging and left me frustrated before I even entered the building.
When I finally made it inside, I encountered another issue: an overly strict bag check. I am diabetic and always carry a small amount of trail mix for emergencies, but I was forced to throw it away because food is not allowed in the facility. After the long trek from the parking lot, returning to my car to store it wasn’t an option. This policy feels unnecessarily harsh and inconsiderate to those with medical needs.
Once inside, the temperature was shockingly cold—colder than it was outside. Parents and spectators were bundled up in jackets and blankets just to stay warm while watching the games. While I appreciate not being overheated, the facility was uncomfortably cold, making it difficult to focus on enjoying the matches.
I love watching my granddaughter play volleyball, but unfortunately, this venue makes it so difficult that I won’t be able to attend if her team plays here again. I hope the facility reevaluates its parking, accessibility, and temperature control to provide a more accommodating and comfortable experience for all visitors.

As many other reviews suggest, this venue can be an incredibly frustrating experience—and that’s putting it mildly.

We travel frequently for volleyball and have played here a few times. While I recognize that the venue has responded to some complaints and that a few of their policies are justifiable, others feel completely unreasonable and out of touch.

For instance, they do not allow any outside food in the venue. While I understand the desire to minimize messes left by inconsiderate guests, this policy is far stricter than most other venues, including much larger ones like convention centers. They do have a concession stand, but the options are limited to things like burgers and chicken tenders. My daughter, who spends the entire day exerting energy, prefers healthier options. While their prices aren’t astronomical, it’s frustrating that they don’t allow food to be consumed in a designated dining area. Instead, we’re forced to keep food in the car. This wouldn’t be as big of a deal if parking weren’t so chaotic.

This weekend, we attended a smaller tournament and managed to get a decent parking spot, so eating at the car wasn’t too bad. However, during larger tournaments, parking becomes a major issue. In past visits, we’ve had to park several blocks away, which makes accessing the car for food breaks almost impossible. And while the January weather was tolerable this time, these tournaments happen year-round, and sitting in a hot car in the middle of summer is not ideal for players who need to refuel and cool down.

Another frustrating policy is their no-volleyball rule. While I understand the concern about rogue balls interfering with active games, many venues handle this by installing nets between courts, which The Big House does not have. Ironically, during our game, we constantly had balls from an active court behind us rolling onto our court—a far greater safety hazard than players warming up with their own volleyballs.

We didn’t know about this policy beforehand. My daughter’s backpack has a built-in compartment for a volleyball, which passed through security without issue. After refereeing our first game, we went to the far side of the arena, away from all active courts, to warm up. A staff member approached us and told us we couldn’t have the ball. While they weren’t outright rude, they were curt and insisted we should’ve known the policy. We were told to remove the ball from the venue immediately. This interaction was unnecessary and left a sour taste, especially since we were clearly taking every precaution to avoid disrupting anyone.

I can see the reasoning behind some of the venue’s rules, but there’s significant room for improvement. Other venues with excellent courts manage to strike a balance with more reasonable, player-friendly policies. I hope they take a closer look at what works well elsewhere and make changes to enhance the experience for players and families alike

The facility and the courts are very well maintained, and the cafeteria is clean and always maintained between customers.
Unfortunately, this is the only positives I saw to this place and it’s harder to see any other positive points because of the amount of negative things to deal with and the frustration from the insane amount of rules just so you can enter a facility.
I am already required to sign a waiver prior to coming for the player and any spectator entering so I am releasing the facility from any liability. With that being said. Spectators also pay for their admission and clubs pay tournament fees so with these payments and your vendor activities you should be able to cover your operational cost. If you’re having a hard time, I would recommend bumping the AC up from 55 degrees thermostat and you can save a few bucks on your electric bill.

I don’t appreciate an a green world environment, where we are asked to leave our personal water bottles in the car and only can use disposable water bottles. Way to support our planet! players cannot bring in any Gatorade or protein bars, or things that they may be using throughout the tournament for appropriate nutrition in between their games, can only purchase food from their vendor. you can see the menu in the photos and tell me which food item you would recommend to your athlete. My purse was searched every time going in/out of the building and ANY food item or gum or mint in your bag was thrown away in the trash, I don’t think TSA security is even this strict at an airport.
Lighten up the rules and let families enjoy their children and the sport. you can enforce the rules for no gum/food or snacks on your courts but no reason to be so restrictive to the families just to enter your doors to come inside the building.
I sat here for an 8 hour event and everyone’s conversation around me is talking over their annoyance with the amount of rules to deal with.

Beautiful facility, clean, and friendly staff. You cannot bring in water or snacks for your athlete, not even water with a screw top. They told our diabetic athlete she could not bring in her candy, which she needs for medical reasons. They will nickel and dime you for everything, including $18 to get in. Parking is a nightmare. It’s freezing right now, because they won’t turn on the heater, so everyone is shivering and wrapped in blankets. Super disorganized. Our first volleyball set took 42 minutes because the calls were soooo slow. One match (2 sets) took 1:20 minutes total. All the games are behind schedule due to poor management. I hope our organization doesn’t come back here.

This is easily one of my least favorite volleyball venues, and unfortunately, we have to play here multiple times. Every visit is an exercise in frustration.
First off, kids can only bring water in water bottles—no exceptions. The parking situation is beyond ridiculous. Their tiny parking lot can't accommodate the number of visitors, forcing most people to park in a dirt lot or along the street, sometimes as far as half a mile away. Because parking is such a nightmare, you're essentially stuck relying on their overpriced concession stands unless you're willing to make the long trek back to your car.
When you finally make it to the entrance, be prepared for an invasive bag check. They don’t just glance in your bag—they literally dump out the contents, regardless of how small your purse might be. It’s excessive and completely unnecessary.
While I’ll admit the facility inside is spacious and well-kept, their rules are so out of touch with what traveling teams actually need. For example, teams aren’t allowed to bring their own volleyballs inside for warm-ups, even though there’s plenty of space for it.
As a team that travels almost every weekend and visits a wide variety of venues, this place stands out as one of the worst in terms of overall experience. While I understand wanting to maintain the facility, their policies and lack of practical accommodations are unreasonable. Hopefully, this is one of our last trips here

I absolutely HATE this place. There is never enough parking and they CHECK people’s bags for outside food or drinks to FORCE people to buy their crap!! I came in last year by Uber and had to leave my daughter’s water bottle in the front, then at the end we couldn’t find it anymore… yeah it got stolen! The clubs should boycott this place to stop this nonsense… people have food restrictions or how about not forcing athletes to eat crappy fast food? Disgusting!!

I had a really disappointing experience at this sports facility. It is beyond ridiculous and unacceptable that athletes are not allowed to bring their own water or sports drinks to hydrate during games. Hydration is crucial for performance and safety, and this policy completely ignores the well-being of the athletes. In any sports environment, access to water should be a priority, not a restriction. It's frustrating to see such a basic need disregarded in a place that’s supposed to support athletic performance. I won’t be returning unless they reconsider this completely unreasonable rule.

The place is beautiful, the parking , the restrooms were clean, food reasonably priced. It was a full house this weekend with so many teams playing basketball from 3rd grade to high school 12th grade. I absolutely loved everything except one their was a specific referee on court 5 Mr./Mrs. not sure of the gender. But that’s not the point. The point is the referee was very unprofessional and unethical with 12yr olds calling false fouls, targeting specific players on one team and yet being care free with the other, and also getting in the kids faces. As if the referee forgot their age. Trying to bully 12 yr olds, sizing them, and just being very aggressive. I definitely felt bad for all the kids for having biased games and the other referee working with this specific ref. The other gentleman just watched the game and did his job professionally. They need to start hiring refs with more experience with children and patience if they’re going to be working with kids.

Came through for Jr's AAU game. Courts are clean and in great condition, food at the snack bar is decent and not wildly expensive. Like many places we've been, you cannot bring in any outside food or beverage, even the players. Only plastic store bought bottled water for players, no refillable water bottles. Yes, that's kind if annoying, but not unheard of. Other people mentioned the customer service and parking... I get it, however- we were able to park quickly AND as people left their tables in the Cafe, staff wiped down the tables right away. I'll take staff that keeps things clean over fake smiles 🤷🏾‍♀️ Plus the bathrooms were immaculately clean and stocked, even though there have been hundreds of folks here all day!

Children are not allowed to bring their drinks in the building because they want them to purchase their drinks inside (greed). As a coach I see children with no money and playing dehydrated because they had to dispose of their drinks outside the door before entering. It's a big hazard for those who aren't informed ahead of time that the place has TSA level security 🙃. It feels like I'm entering a courthouse instead of the big house while greeted with some of the rudest angry people. They don't care for the children as much as they care about their wood floors. The floors won't be damaged with their gatorade, but coconut water is turned down at the door. If you speak up they threaten you. I really dislike playing at this place

The parking lot is patchy with dirt and gets everything dirty and dusty when you park and walk up to the facility. We paid $20 a person to enter. We were all but strip searched to ensure we weren't bringing in any outside food or drink items, even a banana for our 1 year old, who doesn't eat regular concession stand food. Mind you, the regular size Gatorade was EIGHT DOLLARS. That's absolutely insane. We went along with it, to then be told we couldn't bring in MINTS. A brand new tin of icebreaker mints were thrown away, I asked why, and the girl said it was because they "could be thrown at the refs" ... WHAT!? By that asinine logic, I could literally throw anything from my purse at the refs, yet we could bring everything else in with us... the girl was courteous, and I understand she was doing her job and didn't make the rules, so I didn't give her attitude or anything, just went along with it because we had already traveled an hour to get there. We went to the main part of the complex to watch the basketball game for my nephew and it was miserably hot, nearly unbearable. Idk if they didn't have the air on or not turned cold enough? But it was terrible to sit there for longer than 5 minutes. Thankfully we won't be going back to this location, and if we have to, we won't.

Shameful for a place that services so many children and families. Swallow your pride and take some accountability!!

**All you need to know about this place is evident in the owner’s replies to complaints. Embarrassingly unprofessional.**

They had a teenage boy wearing dirty nitrile gloves rifling through my daughter’s basketball bag touching her undergarments and feminine hygiene items while she watched on with total embarrassment. They pilfered through my wife’s purse and took out her chewing gum and mints, threw them on the table and told her she couldn’t bring them in.(neither item is “food” and neither item breaches their “safety and sanitation” standards). This facility is indirectly forcing patrons to buy overpriced water, sports drinks, and fried food by prohibiting reusable water bottles and snacks. In 13 years of attending girls basketball tournaments we have never experienced this level of prohibition of basic essentials.

They threw away an entire unopened bag of gummy worms candies, one of our players keeps in her bag for quick sugar intake, without even asking her to bring them to her parents for proper removal. This facility is shockingly unprofessional and the staff is unfriendly.

The person responding to emails(Ms. Lemon) is unprofessional and seems to reply with non sequiturs, justifications for odd behavior of her security staff, and implications that border on inappropriate.

Seems like a really good opportunity for a competitor to step in a provide a better solution.

**In response to the owner’s deleted reply(see photo)**
I didn’t think anything was anonymous, my full name is posted on the review and by using social media and Google you were easily able to find any information about me you wanted.

Every complaint I made was echoed by the parents and coaches. Based on reviews it appears these complaints are shared by many before.

Most business owners accept critique and attempt to build a better service/product/environment for paying customers, but being aggressively defensive is a strategy that won’t pay off.

‘Telling on me’ to my daughter’s AAU team’s owner is a very odd tactic considering they too are a business and our players and parents are the customers. Fortunately they listen to their ‘customers’ and will adjust accordingly as all great businesses do.

This facility is beautiful and holds at least 250 people but the parking is a nightmare. The staff is rude! They snatched my daughters drink out of her hand at the security check, and said nothing but NO (she’s 8). The inside of the facility is hotter than outside and the seating is worse than the parking, which is odd because they do have the balcony over look (you have to be 18 and older or you can not access it). Awful. They would not allow a woman who had a diabetic child with her come into the facility with her snacks. They would not allow refillable water bottles so that means no insulated bottles which means the players had to drink hot water because they kept the place so hot that the cold water bottles turned into room temperature in seconds. They took my child’s blanket from her arms and shook it out to check if she was hiding any food inside of it. They had security and other people walking around the courts watching for any food or drinks being consumed. You could only bring in a water bottle or a Gatorade bottle. Then the games were 2 hours behind. Terrible terrible operation.

Food lines and waits, HORRIBLE. Bathrooms, disgusting. Wait times for play well over 2 hours! No breaks in between once they start, because they are soo behind. Horrific for Coach’s and players.
It is a BEAUTIFUL facility. Could do soo much better. Need blinds on windows up top, Coachs and players blinded by the sun, refs getting mad when coaches and player last can’t see there calls (due to the sun). The seating is soo BAD as well. You have elderly grandparents standing up the whole time. You have other parents and family sitting where your team is playing because there team is playing after so those that are actually playing their family can’t even sit and watch. Huge upstairs with the railing around should have additional seating if they are going to shove soooo many players and teams in. It seems like it is all about the money for them. Insane. If any of my kids clubs are scheduled to play here, we will NOT come, that is one tournament we will miss out on. Until I’ve heard that things have changed for the better. While it's a great facility for large sports events, like basketball and volleyball tournaments, there's a lot to be desired.

The parking is absolutely atrocious. There are nowhere near enough spots to accommodate the crowds it draws for tournaments. Even the overflow parking is wildly insufficient. You often have to park half a mile away, in the grass, on the side of the road.

The food available is not very good and the wait times can be quite long. Unfortunately, they do not allow you to bring in any food or drinks of your own, and will search your bags to ensure you don't have anything. Yes, they will even take thermoses and reusable water bottles.

Also, there are no bleachers or permanent seating areas available. When all the courts are in use, they can only fit one or two rows of chairs at each court. It's rarely enough for all the spectators, leaving several people standing around the courts.

I initially drafted a detailed negative review, but I reconsidered. ExpectIng the owner's routine response of "know before you go." Despite reading it thoroughly, it didn't ensure a safe and enjoyable experience as advertised. Staff at the Big House handled my daughter's belongings without proper gloves, creating unsanitary conditions. Bringing your own chair is not allowed, leaving you uncomfortable all day and adding 2-3 hours of delayed disorganized tournament scheduling doesn’t help. The courts are overcrowded, and people, including staff, walk on them during play. If you challenge the staff for on court access, it will lead to immediate security calls. Café food is unhealthy and takes up to 45 minutes, prompting a suggestion to pack a cooler. The dim lighting, subpar air conditioning, and staff displaying vulgar behavior contributes to an unpleasant environment. Several parents shared a similar sentiment over the weekend. Hoping in the future our club decides NOT to attend any tournaments at The Big House.

Our girls were dying of thirst and of course they made this rule so you stand in their 45 min line to get your kid more water so they can make more money off you. We refused to buy one thing from this place. Not even a place to get water from thermos, just a nasty old water fountain. They didn’t have the air on the one day and it was over 85 degrees and the girls were dying. I went and found one of the owners and told them the air situation was not acceptable. I feel like they did address it but it was too late, took hours to cool down. The light blew up in the one court & the smoke wasn’t moving which made it obvious the air wasn’t on bc the smoke would have been sucked through the ducts. Instead the smoke just lingered and no smoke alarm went off.Seems like a big safety issue to me. The absolute worst thing is people just walk through your court when your team is playing. Even their “employees” that work there walked or should I say strolled in front of one of girls as she was about to serve. Could not get one video without someone walking through your court, and this was happening when there was game play. The set up is horrible! Parking was the worst I have ever seen. People just parked in middle of parking lot and left you to have to back out of rows, no one directing parking. They search your bags which is fine, they took our gum, ok it did say that in the info link about the facility, but there is much bigger stuff to be worrying about. They were running 2.5 hours behind and our 8pm scheduled game started after 10pm. Over half women’s stalls were shut down off and on bc I think of flooding. Than we get back to facility next day at 8 am and half the stalls didn’t have toilet paper. This is not a bitter parent, our girls took home medals and trophy, this is a VB mom that says do better, and for the love of god let the girls bring in more than 1 plastic water bottle, esp if you aren’t planning on putting the air on properly. Parents speak up loudly to your coaches so they stop booking here, or push for changes to be made. And yes we read the entire “know b4 we go” rules. We memorized them. It’s not us that is the problem, it’s changes that need to be made to facility.
Pros the facility was nice and did seem on the newer side, and they did give nice medals and trophies, just need to make some serious changes.

This monstrosity is the perfect physical manifestation of the travesty that youth sports has become. You're the problem. I read some of the replies to others complaints and it is no surprise you are defensive instead of trying to be better. You exploit youth sports for gross profit and that says enough. This morning, my toddler was turned away with her mini volleyball she carries so she can be like the big girls. Rules or not, you and your staff just don't get it.

This is the most difficult place to come to. I have been involved in club volleyball for the past 8 years and every time I have to come to this place I CRINGE!

The tournament director needs to reevaluate the layout and do what other tournaments do when it comes to pool play. The layout of two courts in the same pool IS NOT WORKING!!! I have always had a 1-2 hour delay. LETS DO BETTER AND USE OUR TIME WISLEY!

facility is very nice, but the acoustics will give you the worst migraine you have ever had!

The windows in the gym allow sunlight to blind the players while they are playing and provide a very difficult and unfair atmosphere. One would think the person in charge would have some common sense to put blinds or something to allow the athletes to play without being blinded…. But no..

Their facility rules and the items you can’t bring in are SO ridiculous. NO WATER BOTTLES, no snacks for athletes, and what not. They basically make it so you have to use their concessions if you want anything. It would be much better if they didn’t allow those things on the court, but they basically invade your privacy and search through your bag before they let you in

I know the “owner” of the big house likes to comment and reply to reviews, but let’s look at how many bad reviews this place has!!

Pros:
Face recognition for verification with ticket entry
Clean restrooms

Cons:
“Family” restroom (you’d assume a changing table, for your baby) no changing table. So it’s more a companion restroom than a family restroom.
Not enough parking (nearly dodge every car coming bye as you walk from your car to the entrance of the building)
Very strict, no one including our volleyball players were allowed to bring in snacks or drinks. The players are here for many hours. They should be allowed to have snacks and drinks. No food nor drinks allowed on the court. As a medical professional I am thinking dehydration and low blood sugar levels, increasing the probability of the athletes passing out.
There are staff members coming around ensuring no food or drinks are brought onto the gym floor. Great, to enforce the no food or drink rule. However, it’d be great if these staff members also checked for flying balls and helped retrieve the balls that fly from one game into another game. By the way, if a ball enters your players court while they are playing a game, they better not get distracted, instead they need to keep playing or they will lose a point (totally not safe!)
In addition, as a nursing mother, nearly all places make an exception to ensure I’m able to bring in a drink so I stay hydrated since I will need to feed my child. Not this place.
Plus, there are no bleachers only folding chairs. The folding chairs which the audience sits is located behind the net (where balls are flying) not on the side of the net. This is very distressing for the players and the audience.

I would never recommend this place to anyone

The name “Big House” is very fitting for this facility. It feels like you are serving a life sentence on “D block” from the moment you approach the entrance, to the time you you walk through the gates. That was the best experience of the day by the way. I felt like Andy when he escaped from Shawshank.

Their policies and procedures are pretty straightforward, but they take it to another level. (TSA should hire their OPS Director) Although, the only contraband they check for is gum, metal water bottles/tumblers and oversized clear water bottles. Yes, you can bring in regular sized plastic water bottles, but not a big boy…

The one thing that stands out about this facility, other than the poor lighting, poor organization, poor seating arrangements…. #1 Gripe = It has the ABSOLUTE WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Can’t stress this one enough. Absolute worst.

Every employee but ONE, was completely unprofessional and rude. From their security at the entrance, employees walking around the facility to the very rude lady in a polo shirt that appeared to be in charge.

It is apparent that the leadership of the “Big House” fosters an culture full of hostility, toxicity and they are just unkind people. I would hate to see any of these “power-tripping” employees with a real badge.

I thought about leaving a review or not, until I read the rest of them. In the few shorts hours that I have been here, I can tell you that ALL the negative reviews are true.

The responses to the Google reviews by the “owner” only confirm my previous statement about breeding a culture of hostility and toxicity. The owners responses never takes accountability for ANYTHING and only retorts a standard brush off of “Did you read the policies and procedures?” Well, yes I did., and I didn’t see anywhere in there that said I would be treated poorly just for being a paying customer.

I’m sure the employees deal with abhorrent parents and children all the time, but I didn’t see anyone being rude to the employees today.

The employees just came out the gate with “guns blazing!”

I pray that I don’t ever have to come to this facility again. We made a commitment to our team and that is the only reason we stuck around.

I’m sure all the people that left you a poor review wish that you would just listen… Take the constructive criticism and move along smartly. Your business will thrive!!!

Best of luck and I hope you guys do a 180…

Men's restroom was constantly without soap this past weekend. Hallway was a chemical bomb of Fabuloso. Not an enjoying experience overall.

I just read this response the owner gave

"The cafe is a convenience for those who wish to dine there. Your participation in the event does not require you to eat here. We handle the crowd fine. Thank you"

First, teams and parents are there for hours so no it not required, but not wanting to leave your child and or time limits the options to eat else where. Also, if multiple people say your crowd management isn't good. Maybe its not.

However, this is speaking from a realistic viewpoint and judging by the amount of poor reviews recently that might mean something.

Read "know before you go" isn't a coverall.

Your facility is the worst place I’ve ever been for our child’s volleyball tournament. I hope we never return. It’s like checking into a prison facility where the guards only care about gummy bears, but not guns. Your strict rules on no food or water is unlike any other facility we have been to over the years. I understand you not wanting people to bring their own food and water due to concession sales, but when your concession lines are 45 minutes long it makes it difficult to purchase food. When you finally do get to the front of the line, most food was sold out or completely unhealthy. Shame on you. Also, I find it pretty appalling that you don’t even allow people to even bring in TINY breath mints because you consider it contraband. Stop treating adult parents like children. It was made aware to us your business is in financial trouble. This is not at all surprising given the way you treat your guests. Do better.

The best part of the tournament experience here was the face recognition entry - when you buy the ticket you also submit a picture of yourself which you then validate at the entrance. The software is pretty fast but if the internet bogs down - they better be prepared for long lines of frustrated parents!
The other thing that works fairly well is that they provide all warm up balls - in this way you don’t have to lose yours as well as the balls can be left without worrying about whose ball belongs to whom.
Seating is also well arranged around the court. There is a continuous cleaning going on by their staff for leftover garbage thrown by careless kids and parents - which is a good thing.
The one thing I didn’t like was the water bottle and food restrictions. Only 20oz or lower screw on top disposable water bottles allowed; and there are fountains to refill. No outside food as well - which means they are just trying to get those extra food sales within the facility. Although this does avoid the courts from getting dirty with folks eating inside - they could control this by other means. All in all - a good system to ensure unwanted delays are not allowed to happen - but things like eating and drinking restrictions could be relaxed a little bit especially for the players.

I got dehydrated because they did not allow me to bring my own water and force everyone to only buy their over priced plastic polluting water bottles! Also made me throw away my apple!! Evil

There isn’t enough parking, so cars park everywhere and block the traffic lanes. There are no attendants directing traffic. Their policies and staffing decisions appear to prioritize profits and their maple floors over meeting the needs of players and spectators. They don’t allow refillable water bottles or snacks. There is one concession stand with marginal food options and an excessively long line at all times. These are athletes playing hard - they need easy access to water and healthy snacks to keep up their energy! The courts are nice enough, but I dread coming here for tournaments for all the other reasons.

Horrible place.. can’t even take water or anything. Not to mention the parking issues parking in front of the fire station and on people property, just watched them tow 3 cars and ticket people, horrible location it’s just absolutely a mess and unorganized. Don’t waste your time coming here

This place is next level of stupidity. Kids cannot bring any refillable water bottles, including simple plastic ones. They force them to buy hydration there. No outside food at all, again eat the garbage they sell there and I just watched them turn a grown woman away because she had a pack of gum in her purse.

Complete lack of parking. A nightmare.

It’s a pretty venue, but that’s about it. Stricter than TSA. You can bring water and Gatorade into the court area, but not soda… not sure what difference that makes. Not enough parking AT ALL. Parked all the way down the street and nearly got hit about 8 times by other people trying to park.

Really do not recommend this venue. Way overpriced and not enjoyable at all for players or families

Facility is making you throw your gum out before entering. Parking is horrendous. I can see not allowing drinks in court area but they allow water and not a soda? The line for food service takes an extremely long time.
