Me and my brother have been climbing at this gym as beginners for the past month. The routes are fun for all different ages and experienced climbers! The gym is well kept, staff always friendly, and the environment is always full of encouragement. Jake took the time to carefully explain how to Belay climb. He was thorough, experienced, and very knowledgeable! Me and my brother are fully confident to not only pass the required test but also maintain the skills Jake taught. Overall this gym is above 5 stars in my eyes! Anyone who is curious on learning to climb should come in, and anyone experienced will enjoy the environment and routes. Thank you Jake and the crew!

I have been bringing my daughters to this place for years, but we will not be returning after yesterday's incident. A grown woman who was climbing shouted at my 8-year-old daughter, putting her hand out in front of her and claiming that my daughter was in her way. When I confronted the woman, she threw a tantrum, repeatedly throwing herself into a chair while huffing and puffing, rolling her eyes, and refusing eye contact. She even slid her chair aggressively away from us, even though we were there first. This left my daughter very upset, and she referred to the woman as the "mean lady who yelled at me." It's important to note that this woman wasn't even climbing at that moment. I was watching my daughter the entire time, and so was an employee standing directly behind me. My daughter was not in danger, and I wonder why an employee did not notify me instead of allowing this angry woman to confront my child if my child was in said danger? She did not speak to my child kindly at ALL which is why I’m writing the review.
Meanwhile, the nearby employee did nothing but watch. When I asked him why this woman was acting out, he explained that the area my daughter was in was designated for ages 12 and up. However, no staff member had informed me of this restriction, despite my having spoken to three employees while we were there. If you value an establishment that maintains a respectful environment and takes action when customers yell at children, I would not recommend this place.
This is a warning for parents: be aware that this woman may yell at your children, and you might leave with an upset child.

Canceled my membership after being there for almost a year just couldn’t deal with it anymore. They rarely reset the routes which is annoying climbing the same routes over and over again. There bathroom shower has had a sign up saying it’s going to be fixed for almost a year now. The staff never remembers who i am. Probably because they have a relatively high turnover rate. I’ve been climbing at Stone since January 1-2xs a week and within the first month the entire staff greeted me by name when i would come in. They even have a weekly rotation where they reset a new section every week so there are always fresh new routes to enjoy. You can tell the people that work at the edge do the bare minimum to get to know their members. The last straw for me was today when i showed up with my girlfriend to climb. I was giving her a refresher on how to tie in so she could take her belay test and we could climb together and within 2 minutes a staff member told me “you’re not allowed to teach/instruct people”. I asked why not and was told i could practice in the parking lot so i grabbed by personal rope and went outside to practice. After 5 minutes i was informed by another staff member rental harnesses weren’t allowed outside the building. At that point i got annoyed and grabbed all my stuff and told the woman at the front desk to cancel my membership. Can’t wait for Stone -Jax to open. I truly hope this place goes out of business once stone is officially open. Save your time and money and go to Stone when they open. This place is a lost cause that’s over run by random Groupon users. From speaking with other Edge members I’m one of many who hold this same sentiment.

Would have given a lower review if I could. We bought a Groupon Pass, BUT before we did we checked their website to make sure they were open and we could use it while we were in Jacksonville, we live in northern Indiana. Our only opportunity to use these passes would be July 23 and July 24, which both days said they were open! Took an uber paid $20 from our hotel AND when we got to The Edge Rock Wall a piece of paper was taped to their door stating they were closed for the next FOUR DAYS. Seriously, if a company is going to do that then post that news on your website! Thank goodness that Groupon refunded our passes.
People suck. Call this business before you buy passes online.

this gym has a very strong emphasis on top rope and auto belay, which i wish was made more clear on their website. i was here for 20 mins because they have exactly 1 bouldering wall, and all of the routes were graded pretty tough. i’m relatively new to the sport and i wish they wouldn’t advertise as beginner friendly. the staff were super nice and the equipment was in good condition, but again, not for boulder focused climbers and not great for beginner climbers.

Horrible, people working there won’t even help you with anything, they make u sign a waiver even for people that are not climbing like ???? Makes no sense , then they make u watch a 10 minute video, like your just trying to bring ur kids here and climb but no everything here is a big deal , if I was you just go to a sky zone your def gonna have more fun there , workers don’t even look at ur face, if ur trying to have fun don’t come here , if ur trying to waste ur time and lose ur patience perfect place for u to go

Friendly Staff and the routes were well set.. It's a good balance of boudering and lead, but the number of routes is pretty limited. Was something like 8 auto-belays and 19 total routes...Somewhere are those numbers. Seems like some routes had been there quite a long time.. super caked with chalk and a bit grimy... maybe I caught them right before resetting... Not sure of their phasing.

Great little gym.
Day pass was roughly 20 single person no equipment rented. They have bouldering, autobelay, and rope - a lot of top rope and some lead. I'm recovering from a surgery, so it was great to be able to do low grade autobelay stuff.
Plenty of cubbies, appear to have a workout area although I didn't go in. Grades were pretty standard and, if anything, tended to be relaxed.
Clientele seemed mixed, newbies and seasoned all mixed in. Altogether a great ambience and was nice to see this near downtown Jacksonville.

Good: the gym is small but honestly it doesn’t matter there’s TONS of good problems here and the attached gym is packed out.
Bad: The staff are a bit… hmm. Idk they’re a bit haughty at times? Like a cool club I’m not aloud to be apart of?
Overall: great gym, love coming here 💪 just don’t expect to make friends with the staff Lolol

Fun routes with creative wall features. Even mix of top rope, auto belay, and bouldering. About 1 grade easier than other gyms I’ve been to. The building is very clean and has a chalk eater air filter that runs. It was a bit warm inside though. The initial safety video is entertaining and well made.

Overall great gym, got the membership. I’d say this gym has significantly better auto belay, top rope, and lead climbing than Beaches Rock Gym. Beaches has significantly better bouldering. It’s a struggle to find doable routes as a V1-V3 beginner climber here at the edge.

Staff were very friendly and equipment is good quality from what I could tell. However, this place is not good for beginners. The auto belays work well but if you can barely get off the ground, that doesn’t matter much. All the tracks (except for one) require VERY strong upper body to get anywhere. I was disappointed because I specifically called ahead and asked if the facility was good for a complete novice, like myself.
If you’re experienced in rock climbing or have great upper body strength, this would probably be a fun time. Otherwise you’re better off doing something else.

We brought out our active events group and had a blast! The staff was very helpful as almost all of us were climbing for the first time. They had bouldering that was suitable for beginners and they had auto belays that worked well for us on the beginner climbs. They had some on the auto belays that all of us could easily do and we all struggled to do anything beyond the 5.8 or 5.9 level so we thought that challenge was pretty fun to see who could do the highest.
Yes, I was afraid to trust the auto belay to catch me on my first time climbing and I actually climbed down but I can confirm that it does, in fact, catch you 😂

Took my 7 year old for her birthday. It was a great experience! It was our first time, JJ (a staff member) was great! He gave The birthday girl a free one day pass and chalk. JJ was very kind, helpful, and encouraging. He helped all of us with climbing, my six-year-old cousin cut herself (barely, but she’s 6, so she was a dramatic!) and he bandaged her up, called her a professional climber, which got her to stop crying and encouraged her to get back to climbing (which she did).
JJ also encouraged the adults to try, which was fun to see. I did one pass myself and only one because while rock climbing is fun, it’s a workout!!!! I made it to the top though! Thanks JJ!
We went on a Thursday before 3pm. It wasn’t crowded. Affordable place to celebrate a birthday (under $80 for 5 climbers).
We will definitely be back. It was a lot of fun!

This was so much fun. 1st, I hadn't rock claimed in 20 years. But we decided this would be a good date for the two of us and it was great.
The staff here is wonderful, totally attentive, and responsive. With the right balance of encouragement. We went on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't too crowded but did have a good number of climbers.
Highly recommended!! Have fun!

I’ve been going to this place off & on since I moved to Jax in 2012. The staff is usually warm & helpful, very safety minded. It only takes a few visits to become a regular and the locals are a cool group, I’ve learned a ton and leveled up my climbing so much.

Staff was neutral, not friendly, not unfriendly. Very small gym for the price you’re paying. You have about 4 options for any particular bouldering level, and about 6 options for any level auto-belay you might try.
At $50 for two people I’d just expect a bit more variation.

Not a big fan! Small, down-to-earth place. My friends in Jax love the community, which is great if that’s what you’re looking for.
For visiting climbers? Not so much. It has good options for its size but no grades and they’re all comp-style without much variation. Staff nice enough, but wanted me to rent a harness because mine didn’t have a tag…proving it was under 5 years old… If you aren’t a regular, you’ll have 5 sets of eyes on you at all times. Which can make you feel safe! <3 Or if you’re an experienced climber, after a few condescending and unnecessary notes it might make you feel frustrated and want to leave!
I love local gyms and try to have a lot of grace but I’ll take the drive to Stone Climbing in St. Aug every time.

My wife and I have been climbing for years and have visited and/or been members of more than a dozen climbing gyms across the country over the years. The Edge is hands down the worst managed we have experienced. The routes are poorly designed and almost never updated. Many routes have no ratings at all for weeks on end, for reasons that are not clear. And the young staff is marginally knowledgeable and borderline surly, especially it seems when dealing with those of us with a few grey hairs. One especially snotty woman there told my wife she had to stop climbing because her 3-year old, top of the line harness was “out of date”, forcing us to rent one from them. We have stopped coming altogether - not worth the inevitable frustration.

I have been to this location about 4 times, each time I did only rock climbing. Very fun, obviously wish it was bigger but they change the patterns on the walls. So each time, a new adventure. This gym is okay, the staff are usually very nice, but its overpriced for what it is, and they take advantage of you knowing that they’re the only show in town.
For example: They frequently shut down for a week to set up for climbing competitions (that you still have to pay $50 on top of your membership to enter) and dont refund you for that lost week that you paid for. Not to mention that anytime one of these happens, they’ll wait two months to start setting new routes again, so if you’re going more than once a week you’ll be stuck climbing the same things over and over again.
The price is also incredibly inflated. Google Stone Summit in Atlanta, its one of the biggest climbing gyms in the world, dwarfing the edge, AND is located in a much bigger city, yet the yearly membership is $80 CHEAPER than the Edge’s. Wild.
If you simply must go climbing, its pretty much your only option in town (and they know that), unless you live by the beaches. But there’s enough other things to do in Jax that I won’t be renewing my membership.

Employees were very helpful, rental equipment worked great, climbing holds were stable, bathrooms were very accessible.
The only thing I would complain about is how clean it is… the air was very dry and dusty causing excessive thirst and I could feel the chalk in my throat because the air was full of it, also the bathrooms weren’t the cleanest I’ve ever seen but everything works fine so I don’t mind.
I would recommend this place for maybe a bit more experienced or knowledgeable climbers because the ranking starts at 5.6 for the easiest climb with a harness. Also, I wouldn’t come here if you have bad allergies because it is so dusty.
Otherwise it’s a great gym and I will definitely come back!

What a great workout! When you arrive you get a funny instructional video to watch. The staff gives you harnesses to use while you climb. They have a bouldering area that is around 10ft high and you don’t use a harness, they have an automatic harnessing area that you hook onto that you self-repel on the way down, and they have an area that requires a partner to counter balance you on the way down. You get unlimited time but we only made it an hour before our forearms felt like they were going to fall off. The routes are color coordinated for level of difficulty. If you’ve ever wanted to try out rock climbing, this is a safe and fun environment to give it a shot!

I got a membership here and I love it. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are clean. I haven’t used the traditional gym much but the rock climbing gym is a great workout. They have a yoga class and belay and lead certification courses. The least busy times to go are during the weekdays before school gets out and most Sunday nights a couple hours before closing. My only complaint would be that the auto belays aren’t changed out enough.

We went on a Wednesday evening at about 6:00. They were busy but there were enough climbing walls that there wasn’t much of a wait for any one climbing route. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We rented shoes, harnesses, and chalk bags for $8 and admission was $26.50 per person for a one-day pass. You can buy punch card passes (that do not include rentals) or they have several options for memberships ranging from $94 per month to $59 per month. In order to use the manual belay walls you must take their class ($39 for non-members or $25 for members) but anyone can use the auto belay or boulder walls. The other patrons were friendly and everyone was very supportive. The staff in the climbing gym however was not very helpful and even seemed a little annoyed when I approached them to ask questions. There is also a traditional gym that is available for members that includes weights and cardio equipment. They offer classes including yoga, climbing for various abilities, fitness and HIIT, and youth programs. Birthday parties are available for a reasonable price ($250 for 10 participants including rentals). Overall it was a good experience and I plan to return. It’s a great option for fitness if you don’t want to go to a traditional gym.

Just moved to Jax and joined the edge because I wanted to do some working out and climbing. The bouldering area is pretty small but there are some good auto belays… don’t expect to spend more than 30 minutes projecting around. I wish they had a college/young adult/womens night every week/month where you could meet some people to top rope with.
I enjoy the gym area and while there are plenty of plates & dumbbells there is not much variety with the machines. I really wish there was a lat pull down/sitting row pulley to do a few more moves.
Lastly, as I was wondering before joining & didn’t see anything on here, there are locker rooms with shower areas but there is no good place to change. Also I have a big problem with the frequent occurrence of boys coming in with their parents/counselors etc… I often shower/change here after work and it can be quite uncomfortable. This is my one issue that I have had coming and would love if better restrictions were in place about this! Or at least put a better door/divider between the two areas.

Follow the rules or don't go. It's not the best, but it's not the worst, just be thankful you have a place to climb in Jax! The other reviews that can't follow the rules, shouldn't go into privately owned businesses and act like fool's, otherwise you will be asked to leave, this is America, and nobody has a right to dictate how ANYBODY chooses to run they're business that's called FREEDOM. If you don't like it, then don't go, if you make a stink and ruin other patrons experience and make it hard on the staff, they have a right to ask you to leave!!

Definitely my favorite place in Jacksonville. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating and the routes are really cool. Definitely a climbing style I'm not used to but very fun. Great for beginners and avid climbers alike !! Has top rope, lead, auto-belay, and bouldering. Auto belays are better for beginners but the holds are very used so be careful because it's slippery.

I only started climbing two months ago but The Edge Rock Gym has been an amazing place to get into the hobby. The community is great and there are plenty of climbs for a multitude of skill levels. If you're in the area and looking to climb, give it a visit!

This place is just amazing! I wish I lived closer so I could go everyday! The staff is always so friendly and helpful! Their gym has nice equipment to warm up on for the climb and they offer yoga/acroyoga classes (Dawn!!! She’s absolutely amazing and teaches on Sundays!) Couldn’t ask for a better place to go to ^_^ Highly recommend to climbers of all levels.

My 10/12 year olds loved it! It’s a nice impromptu trip we took. Conveniently located. Good size parking lot. Go early as there’s less people. Around 630 it started getting crowded. Affordable. Going back definitely.

Staff was friendly and helpful to our family, just enough options for us to climb though I’ve seen bigger climb gyms in the past. Definitely helped grow a love of climbing in my kids!
