The Golf Club at North Hampton offers a traditional Scottish links-style course in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the layout meanders through dramatic elevation changes of over 40 feet and ten spring-fed lakes lined with coquina boulders. Sprawled across rolling hills and wild grasses, the golf course is sculpted from beautiful Florida woodlands, offering a round that is as scenic as it is challenging. North Hampton is a classic risk reward golf course in the image of her designer, the legendary Arnold Palmer.
Refurbished in 2012 it plays just over 7,100 yards from the back tees but with three addition sets of tees to offer maximum enjoyment to our guests. Itβs a strategic course that offer multiple ways to play.

A pleasant place to have an inexpensive meal, some cocktails and a few beers. The young server was friendly and attentive. The outside patio is in desperate need of a rehab, but it's still a nice place to sit and eat overlooking the 18th hole. Membership not required. I didn't play golf. Happy hour on Wednesdays from 4 to... 8?

Arnold Palmer would be aghast if he were to see this course. It's a wonderful layout -- interesting holes, wonderful surroundings. While the condition could be better, its really not that bad. What's not acceptable is the staff/management -- they are milking this course for what's it worth -- one rake on a large bunker, cart paths that could be better, etc. BUT, the worst is being hurried up when we played a four-hour round. We tee'd off at 8 AM and were ahead of the pace, but the marshal was on our behind and made us pick up the balls on the 16th green. Why? Because they are squeezing in seven minute tee-times and hurrying up the groups. We completed the round in four hours. I went up to talk to him after the round -- he apologized, but the damage was done. Not acceptable!

I got told when I made a tee time for 9 after 3.00 it was going to be 34.00 and then I got to the clubhouse and they said it was 52.00 that was not the same thing I got told when I made the time. And the course is really looking really bad. I get told one thing and it changed when I got to the clubhouse. Not cool!!!!!!!! The person who check me in should had houred that price of 34.00 since I got told that when I made the time

My husband came home complaining so vehemently about the condition of the course. Great layout, fun layout. Condition deplorable. 2 temp greens. 16 unputtable grees. $70 are you kidding. I do not know how they can charge anything over a cart fee for this. Do not waste your time until mid Summer, maybe. But check first before you check in.

Not a great experience. Should have been a sign when the front nine starts on hole 10; the true front nine is in horrible shape. Several temp greens in the middle of fairways, tee boxes are pure sand, the other greens are in very bad shape and some almost a sand bunker. A lot of bunkers had over grown grass.
Bar area doesnβt open until after nine-ish; food not available until 11. No way to buy drinks; alcohol or food.
Employees were nice, but the course is in really bad shape. Even the cart paths were bad. Wonβt play here again, definitely not worth the hype.
Holes 10-18 were good, challenging and fun. The bar area needs to be open sooner, have some sort of food and drinks available for early golfers (8:10 tee time, not super early), and have a drink cart running. Itβs hot, drinks and snacks would be awesome.

Played here this past weekend. Layout of the course is nice. OK shape for the beginning of the year. Some greens were were pretty bad but not all. However pace of play was atrocious. 130 pm tee time and 5 hours later we had only played 14 holes. Waiting 10 minutes on almost every hole. Not a single ranger out there enforcing pace of play. I'm sure the course will respond to this review with saying they are sorry my expectations were not met, however we stopped in at the turn to let the know and their response was that no one has said anything at that was about it. We could leave if we wanted or just deal with it.
Ended up leaving total of 5.5 hours for 15 holes.

Weβve played nearly every public course near Jacksonville, and in South Georgia and somehow didnβt know about this course until recently. It was such a fun course. There was a decent amount of undulation, couple marsh views and overall a pretty unique layout. The distance between holes was pretty far, so I could see it being a difficult course to walk. Fairways and greens were in decent shape. Only a couple greens were a little burnt, but nothing too bad. Even the ladies tee boxes were in decent shape, which I find hard to come by. Pace of play was pleasant even with the walkers in front of us somehow. The staff was so nice and helpful the whole time. An overall great course we plan on adding to our rotation.

Definitely one of my top 3 golf courses in the northeast Florida southeast Georgia are. The greens even during the crazy cold we have had are hands down the best around. I love the service of the carts being parked right outside clubhouse and ready to go and the brand new carts. Only thing I wish they would improve on especially with the brand new carts is the cart paths. Will play here often

Nice course and layout from what I saw. Some of the courses do have some distance between them, so I'm glad we got the cart to ride in. We came from out of town and enjoyed playing on this course except for the last hole which was looking rough towards the middle. The first starter for our tee time just before 11 was a little pushy trying to get us to move faster even though we were only 10 minutes behind and there was no one behind us. Although when the new starter was there at Noon, he was a chill guy. Overall, I'd play here again.

This golf club was a huge disappointment. The guy in the pro shop was rude and unprofessional. He kept getting aggressive and agitated because we were not understanding what he was trying to imply. Over charged us, and then once we confronted him with it he says βhe could have charged us for our spectator but he didnβt.β Once we were out on the course we were harassed again by the general manager for no apparent reason. We were all being courteous to other golfers and just trying to have fun but that ended from the moment we stepped into the pro shop!!

The first clue was the filthy golf carts that had not seen a hose in ages. The second, the grubby ladies room. They had our money, $70 each, so we carried on. Mike the pro shop guy was exceedingly cheerful, despite knowing he was ripping us off.
We head to the turf-less range. The shattered yardage marker another neglected repair. Heavy equipment and piles of dirt seem to mean there is some sort of renovation happening that looked promising, however the nasty water from sprinklers running in breezy conditions made the range unpleasant for multiple reasons. Pity the poor employees hand picking balls in the distance. Tommy, the joke telling starter, tells us the course is challenging but fair and sends us on our way. I would say challengingly designed by Arnold Palmer yet so neglected, abused and thus totally unfair to the golfer.
The fairways had been spiked though it was hard to tell when. There had been no evidence of cleanup, reseeding, or even watering. No roll to the once lovely undulating fairways which is kinda the point. So unfair. The cart paths are a rutted sand track.
The greens were weird, weedy, spongy and no two alike. Even aeration of the greens would have made them easier to play. So again, unfair.
We gave up after nine as this course is no longer a test of oneβs golf skills, but just a waste of time and money. For a serious golfer, seeing this interesting course, once beautiful, Iβm sure, is a travesty. The course website contains pictures of its former glory. Iβm sorry I didnβt take pictures of the current appalling condition.
The clubhouse, just donβt plan your dream wedding there.
Iβm angry, I feel deceived, and I recommend you save your money.

Total disappointment. This used to be a very nice golf course. Greens were horrible and they were aerating while we were playing. There was no mention when booking our tee times. The fairway grass is sparse and they have clumps of poa annua grass everywhere. Not even close to being worth $57 each, and on a Monday too. Btw, they also charge you a credit card fee. So sad that this place used to be so nice and now is little more than a Muni with members.

But the conditioning of the course was not good. Most of the greens were ok. Just punch aerated. But the tee boxes and the fairways need a lot of work. With the right care this course could be a destination venue. But as it is now it's little more than a muni.

Played the course this morning. It is not in good shape; weeds all over the fairway, greens have a lot of bare spots, and the tee boxes were in rough shape. The maintenance crew was very inconsiderate, they continued mowing and driving on by while hitting and putting. The driving range was not in good shape either. Wonβt be playing here again.
The course challenging and is a very good layout. You canβt just tee it high and let it fly. You have to be smart with your shots. If the course was in better shape, it has potential.

Course is great - challenging, scenic views, tons of water, overall a great course to play. The starter told me Jim Furyk had played there and said himself "it's a tough track." I don't know if it was him, or his team, but is an Arnold Palmer designed course and worth it. Driving from hole to hole was like a mini safari ride too, seeing a bunch of gators and turtles in the surrounding waters. Will return 100%

Tried this course again due to reading a review saying new greens keeper and course showing signs of improvement. Only change I saw were ropes up around bare areas. Tee boxs still could use some work fairways need lots of love (multiple grasses growing). The course has a great layout, has just been severly neglected.
Greens fees should stay at aerated price until course has been brought back to its original condition (I have played this course off and on since its opening)

Tee off 9 am. No drinks available. Finish at 2pm no food available and an attitude from the bar tender. $178.00 for two to golf. This place is a joke. Course definitely needs some work. Should look way better for this time of year. the price is fair but get you with a charge 25 for cart fee..lol..had a good time. Kitchen and bar was great. Some regulars there like to tee off on you on a par 3 while your halfway off the green like they in a hurry. Could have hit me in the head possibly. But otherwise a decent play past couple days. It'll be a while till I'm back. I'll ensure the course is in better shape before I pay the price I did today.

I played the course on January 27, 2023. This is an Arnold Palmer Signature course, and the layout is very nice. It has 5 sets of tees, so you can choose your yardage, up to about 6800 from the back tees. Very nice setup upon arrival, the staff is great, very informative, and it is convenient to have the driving range and putting green right out front. The conditions were good, it was January, so not a lot of growth going on, but the tees were good, fairways were good enough that you can play it down, and the greens rolled well and were true. This is a great place for a very reasonable price.

January 2023 - Update to the 1 star review posted a year ago. I heard that the course made a number of improvements. I thought I'd go back to see. The course conditions are dramatically improved from a year ago. While they still have some room for improvement, it is in good shape for play. The greens were slow, but understandably so if they're trying to bring them back from where they were last year. A few bare spots on the fairways, but very few compared to last year. Dramatic improvement!
February 2022 - Played here for the first time in a couple of years. I was a member for 5 years back when this course was meticulously maintained and the best track, in my opinion, in North Florida back in the 2012-2016 timeframe. I was shocked at what a goat ranch this course has become. The greens were virtually unputtable. When it is wintertime in north Florida, one must accept that the course conditions aren't going to be the same at the growing season. However, it being winter is no excuse for the deplorable shape the course is presently in.
To make matters worse, a number of strategically placed bunkers were removed. Between the butchering of his design and the course conditions, Arnold Palmer must be spinning in his grave to have his name associated with this course. It is a shame because he designed such a fantastic track.
In fairness, I was given a $10 discount off of the rate I got on the website prior to our round as the pro shop told me the greens were rough, but the discount wasn't an adequate reflection of how rough the greens were.
I can't see a scenario where I'll return.

I have played there for years and one of the best layouts in North Florida. The upkeep was poor for awhile adn i had not been back in a year. Very impressed with the changes made and fairways and greens were in great shape. Many aeas cleared out to make it more playable and fair but will always be a challenging course. I played it today Friday 9/30 for the first time in a year and I can say WOW what a difference in the course shape. They have really put a lot of hard work in the course and it looks really great with the fairways and especially the greens are really playable. I grew up around golf courses. Been involved with them all my life. I understand the challenges of operating a course, especially grass. A quality course can have up to 50 or more varieties of grass. The only grass that comes in and grows quickly is ones yard grass. When I visited this course it was obvious to me it was in a transition phase. I plan on visiting again the new future to see the results. The entire was very professional and attentive. I ended up having lunch there which was excellent. The course manager came through and, as isy manner, I struck up a vonve station with him. After some pointed questions from me and my comments, he asked if I would like a tour of the course. I immediately said yes and this began an exhaustive running commentary of the challenges and remedies being implemented. I was thrilled to hear his frankness. Not apologetic nor playing blame elsewhere, but thoughtfull and well reasoned explanations. When we move, this may very well be our destination.

A lot of negative comments about the course. Is it what it once was, no, but it is coming back. I'd say except for #1, #2 and #3 tees and fairways I was more than pleased with the course. I've been playing North Hampton since it first opened and I'm so glad they are putting all the work in to restore this gem. Don't let all the negative comments scare you away, it's worth the trip up to Fernandina.

Played N Hampton today - Sunday 8/14. Course is making a comeback - thanks new management! Back nine is the biggest improvement - only one green with bare dirt patches. Front nine is improving but still a work in progress - BUT it IS improving! When they get the 3 greens on the front 9 rebuilt that will make a big difference in playing this course. From recent reviews I was expecting far far worse conditions. Give it another try - you might be surprised. I was and I will be back.

1st and last time I'll ever go to North Hampton. They have completely let this place go. I went with a friend who use to go here on a regular basis and he was embarrassed. A few tee boxes were dirt or uncut. They stop trimming around ponds or revines. 1 or 2 holes you couldn't see the green due to over growth and low maintenance. Greens were very inconsistent. Excellent course in great condition. Played in wet conditions. Greens were probably 7 1/2 and that's why it's not 5 stars.

Great layout.. one of the best in North Florida... super friendly staff. This course used to be one of the best maintained courses in the area.. BUT it now needs some serious maintenance.. not sure if that's a result of covid-19... or if it is under different management. It's worth playing for the layout.. even though the condition is poor.

Greens were in very good condition. Staff was nice and course was not too busy. When this course is in good shape, its very challenging and an excellent golf experience for the cost.

I'm an avid player that plays and has played at nearly every course in N FL over the last 10+ yrs. This is a golfer's course. Definitely an Arnold Palmer's best-in-class designed courses of his portfolio. Staff is excellent, Pro's are perfect, and the food/bar is exceedingly better than you think it would be. The Golf Club at North Hampton should be a golf club that a golfer has said he or she has played.

Golfing a tournament as we speak. Started on #8. The course ranger drives by on first hole and tells us we needed to speed up play. Came by on hole #12 says we are way behind with a foursome in the fairway in front of us. I understand there is a time line but when others are holding you up the ranger should not be hassling you

If the course was better maintained it would be a very nice track. Design is great, but greens and bunkers need some care. The course was absolutely dead as well, we only saw two other groups during the morning.
