BLUF: 10/10 recommend. Jesse is fantastic and a great trainer who puts so much time and effort to ensure you improve.
I have been working with Jesse through his online FSS program for almost 2 months. I can honestly say that I’ve enjoyed every moment of his program! There are so many new movements I have learned that while they may look interesting they will destroy you. I’ve leaned out more in this short time than I expected and nothing has left me unnecessarily sore but that isn’t to say it won’t kick your butt. The use of TRX and battle ropes is something I never really considered but I’ve come to love it.

I hurt my back in 2016 and had been dealing with chronic pain and limitations ever since. Over the years, I tried just about everything—nothing worked long-term. Jesse at Unconventional Sports is the first trainer who was able to get me out of pain.
What sets Jesse apart is his deep understanding of functional movement and his ability to tailor a program that truly meets you where you are. We started with rehab-focused work, and over time, I was able to transition into real strength training. Now, I feel stronger and more fit than I was even before my injury.
Working with Jesse has been a game-changer. If you're dealing with pain, injury, or just want a smarter way to train, I can't recommend him enough.

After seeing other athletes in my field training at Unconventional Strength, I decided to reach out and see if they could help me with some mobility/functional issues I was having.
To be honest I was skeptical at first. Being a former collegiate athlete and doing bodybuilding style works for 20+ years it was hard for me to break away from the traditional way I've trained. Thinking I need push a ton of iron to get a good workout in.
It was a challenge. For the first few weeks I'd still do bodybuilding workouts after Jesse's programing to appease myself but after awhile I realized I didn't need to.
The programing challenged me. It became fun trying new things. Function becoming the goal. Teaching my body how to move correctly in the space, creating space in the joints. The pain and stiffness I walked in with has gone away. My physique has balanced out, my cardio capacity has increased, and and I still look like I do bodybuilding training.
Great trainers, fun atmosphere, and solid hard work. I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to feel better, become a better athlete or join a fun community.

I'm a 39 year old computer person. I spend long days at my desk, hunched like a gremlin, and before I started going to Unconventional Strength, I *felt* like a gremlin, too.
Working with Jesse at Unconventional Strength has made such a huge improvement on my total quality of life. I have always struggled to make progress with fitness and stick with a routine, but that's changed now. Jesse's mobility-focused approach to strength and fitness really clicked with me and after 6 months, I feel at least 5 years younger. I sit up straighter, I'm more flexible, I don't wake up with aches or pains, I have more energy and patience to play with my daughter and I'm steadily gaining muscle and the confidence that comes with a noticeably more aesthetic physique.
On top of all that, the culture and atmosphere in this gym is great. Everyone from the other clients to the other trainers are friendly, funny and nonjudgmental. Jesse is also a great motivator and constantly challenges me with engaging programs for home work and novel exercises month to month.
Overall, I would highly recommend doing a consultation here if you're looking for personal training: the gym serves everyone from beginners to professional athletes.

I tried several trainers, programs and classes, nothing comes close to what Jesse provides. After wasting countless hours navigating aimlessly in gyms not knowing what I was doing, getting hurt and not knowing how to accomplish my goals. I decided to meet with Jesse at the recommendation of a good friend. I never looked back. Jesse instructed me how to train effectively, without injury. If you are looking to improve mobility, lose weight and gain muscle, Jesse is your guy. He makes the workouts fun and extremely effective. My experience at Unconventional Strength blew my expectations out of the water. I joined the gym in hopes of alleviating shoulder and knee pain. Not only did my joint pain disappear, I saw more gains and got in better shape in a year at this place than at any other point in my life (including the many years playing football from childhood through high school). The workouts at Unconventional Strength are challenging and unique. Jesse is that rare coach who is literate in the latest that fitness has to offer and knows how to push you to your limits while expressing genuine care and compassion for people. If you’re looking to join a gym: look no further.

After training with multiple strength coaches as a college athlete, I can vouch that Jesse is the kind of coach you come across once in a lifetime! He is very up to date with the research on movement and applying it to his coaching. I worked with him this summer through private and semi-private sessions and it has changed my life. Overall I feel more athletic and comfortable, even with four herniated discs, he helped me feel as close as I have ever felt to normal again. I now trust the way I move and will continue to train with him remotely now that I have relocated. If you’re looking for a coach who will tailor a program exactly to what your body needs and hold you accountable, Jesse is the best. I saw exponential growth from start to finish and still notice a difference as I try new activities. Overall I am more comfortable being active and in less pain due to my injury because of my work with Jesse at Unconventional Strength!

After my 2nd pregnancy, my body was unrecognizable. Not just from an appearance standpoint, but also having constant aches and pains. Training with Jesse has been a game changer. I have worked with Shelly for almost two years and have seen very positive changes in my body and my mind. I love how she knows what I need and has designed a program that works for me!! Unconventional Strength is a great gym that gives you personalized training and trainers that will do the work, with you, to get you where you want to go. Nice gym with a great trainer. I’ve known Charles for little over a year now and his pursuit of additional knowledge/ certifications has always impressed me. He’s always been a highly motivational and inspiring trainer that keeps us accountable. I came to him with knee, shoulder, lower and upper back pain before learning accessible and practical ways to reduce and eliminate the pain all together. Best gym/workout program I've ever belonged to. Very reasonably priced for the intensive and attentive coaching that you are buying. Family owned and operated by fitness experts (and nerds) who will work with you to achieve your goals. I'm always impressed by how they find ways to keep the workouts engaging and fun. As the name suggests, perfect form and function are the top priority, which was important to me having hurt myself multiple times while exercising in the past. I've never been in better shape, I'm very happy with results (member for 7 months now).
