What an incredible find! I trained here on a day pass while visiting my daughter, and now I’m seriously considering moving to Ocala just for this gym! The Underground Gym has an amazing variety of equipment and free weights — including squat, bench, & deadlift for us powerlifters, as well as four different squat machines and a leg press that lets you train each side independently. There’s turf and sleds, tons of bands, and everything a serious lifter (or beginner) could want.

The staff is knowledgeable and super friendly — and you can’t forget Bruce the dog, who makes the atmosphere even better! The facility is spotless, with nice bathrooms, showers, and lockers.

A special thank you to trainer/owner Kieran for the warm welcome and for showing me how to use some of the unique machines. I’ll definitely be back every time I visit my daughter — which might be a lot more often now.

Easily one of the best gyms in Ocala — Underground Gym has the energy, layout, and serious training vibe that most places just don’t offer. The atmosphere is unmatched — you walk in and instantly feel locked in.

I’d love to see another location open up near SR 200 by Dick’s Sporting Goods. That side of Ocala is growing fast, and there’s definitely a need for something like this out there — same raw energy, same Underground theme. It would kill it over there.

I am visiting Ocala, and needed to find a gym. I got a day pass at Underground Fitness. I was greeted by Bella, who was so sweet and inviting. She and Bruce got me all set up.

The equipment is new and there are so many machines, as well as ample free weights. There is also a functional fitness area/powerlifting area. The gym overall is tailored to body building, but meets the needs of any gym based workout style. Overall, well worth the day pass and I will return often.

This is probably one of the first gems for making me feel totally at ease going there. I absolutely loved the color scheme that adds a sense of privacy while working out, and the lighting was just right. I could really focus on my workout, plus the music was fantastic. I didn’t even need my earbuds because it was playing at the perfect volume in the background. The machines were great too, and the owners were super friendly. They even gave me a little mini-training session when I asked about a machine. I’m definitely planning to visit again when I’m back in town.

Underground gym is the place to be if you’re looking for state of the art equipment. They have a really neat space with an insta-worthy atmosphere. First the good. Very nice gym, top of the line equipment. Super clean. Now the bad.

I signed up with this gym earlier this year. The main owners are husband and wife. The wife is very very nice. When I signed up I told her that I had a partial stroke and I needed proper ventilation, which should be available in every gym, regardless. Fast forward to the Florida weather getting hot. I walked in the gym the first day of the heat wave. There was over 80F in the gym. I proceeded with my first set and immediately I felt a painful pressure under the skull. I walked to the front desk and told the owner (the husband) that it was difficult to exercise in such high temperature. He said that I was the only one complaining. I told him I could not force my body and that I would be forced to cancel if they could not provide proper ventilation. Besides, if I paid a $60 monthly membership I would expect an adequate climate. Other gyms are less than half the cost with no comparison when it comes to climate.

He gave me a cancellation form and I proceeded filling in the form. While writing, he told me out of the blue to get out of the gym. I was stunned. I kept filling in the form, I handed it to him and wished him good luck. He responded, “You too, you will need it.” I was literally stunned by his hostile attitude and his threat, wondering what he meant.

It turns out he did not cancel my membership and forwarded me to collections. Upon talking with another member at a later time I learned that the husband is known to have fit outbursts and to handle similar situations in like manner. If I would have know beforehand I would have never signed up to be treated like this.

lCame in late on a Friday night, a bit stressed about not having enough time for a full workout. The owners went above and beyond letting me stay past hours while they cleaned up. They were incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home, even though it was my first time there.

Just checked out this gym for the first time and I’m already obsessed. Leigh, the owner, gave my friend and me a full tour of the space — and it’s massive. It’s still growing, but honestly, it already has everything you could want and then some. All the equipment is super up-to-date, and the whole vibe is just different from your typical chain gym like Crunch or Planet Fitness. The playlist was fire, the lighting was on point, and everyone there was welcoming from the jump. Visited some family in Ocala for the holiday season this year. Chose to checkout Underground Gym over the local Gold’s where we usually train when in the area— and SO GLAD that we did! This gym is a body builder’s playground with top of the line machines and equipment and the owner, Kiran, was very personable. He started his own line of gel called Mist Grip to be used instead of chalk and shared a bottle to try (thank you so much!) If you’re looking for a solid lift in Ocala, Underground Gym is the spot!

Non-powerlifter review: 5* Plus. Two months old, filled with brand new equipment, lots from Arsenal and Rogue. Best gym lighting ever. Seriously. Immaculate vibes. Also has calisthenic training, cardio, outdoor space, and posing room.

Powerlifter review: Underground has, as of late 2024, the only comp-style squat bench combo rack and calibrated plates in the Ocala area. I spoke at length with the owner and he is serious about improving this space. My main suggestions were good power, deadlift, and squat bars. I also suggested increasing the number of calibrated plates, adding another combo rack or squat rack, and a carpeted platform. It’s currently a work in progress but I’m confident it will improve significantly. And it’s already the best in the Ocala area.
