I've had a couple bad experiences here. First time my dad and I went to play a round after he just gotten hip surgery. The starter harassed my dad for only having a putter in his bag. We explained he is only putting because of his hip. The starter said he shouldn't even be playing! Next time I went the clubhouse made me share a cart with a random guy who smoked marijuana in the cart the whole time. The 3rd time the clubhouse tried force to me to share a cart again. The lady in the clubhouse tried to blame it on golfnow which is a complete lie! I asked the cart guy for my own cart like every other course does in Lake County. He said no or don't play! As I walked away I heard the other worker say he's right thats not normal. I left without a refund! They stole my 40 dollars!

My husband and I played this course two weeks ago. Although we had never played here, we were pleasantly surprised. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition. The greens rolled true. This course is challenging, but well worth playing. We both liked the layout. The staff were all friendly. We absolutely enjoyed the round and we plan to go back soon.

First time played there...What a nice course!! A little tricky to get to because it is tucked away inside the community....but the signage was good...just follow the signs and you'll get there. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Course was in really nice shape. Tee boxes were level; fairways were in nice shape and ball rolled smoothly on the greens. Two thumbs up to the maintenance staff!! It's nice to play a course with elevation changes. Though it's a 90-minute ride for me, I will definitely play there again!

I’m fairly new to the game but I think I move through the course at a descent pace. The course is very nice and the staff is great. I’ve played here 4 times so far and do plan to return. Like others have mentioned, some of the locals are a bit nasty. They seem to think that golf is a race to the 18th hole. Multiple occasions I felt absolutely rushed, like they had somewhere to be. I admit, I’m not the fastest player out there, and I’m not trying to be, and neither should they. I had a group of local ladies pushing us along and they weren’t even good golfers. They were rushing everything like the object was to just be fast rather than accurate. On another occasion, the folks were yelling “FOUR!” at us before we could get off the green to make us move faster. I get pace of play, but some people make the game unpleasant. Too bad. Otherwise a great course.

I did go on my birthday! This was my first time playing at this location. Got to say it was absolutely beautiful! Pros: the course itself was well maintained. The fairways and greens were incredible and true! I would go back no doubt. Cons: the speed is fast so if you’re a beginner don’t go here for your first time you will be pushed by seniors. Also the tee boxes were right next to fairways so keep your head on a swivel because them seniors citizens cannot hit the ball straight to save their lives. Super skinny and long fairways no room for error. Your driver is your friend on this one.

Played in early March 2025. Terrible at best for the money they charge. Closed for a long time for renovation but no improvements. Will never go back. Bare fairways and rough. Seems all the money in renovation was for changing course layout and adding a few cart paths. Don't go. It's a waste of your money.

Wow what a hidden gem! Very impressed with conditions, staff and layout! I was skeptical while going through the community. Not because it was bad but couldn’t believe a course this nice was tucked away in there! Great job we will be back!

Played on 9/13/24: Won’t be back! Greens were ok but couldn’t tell fairways from rough. Hadn’t been mowed in weeks. Bald spots everywhere. No excuse with all the rain we’ve had. They are trying to fill with topsoil however. We had 2 groups, wide open in front and behind us. Then we ran into a twosome on 11th hole after they started on #10. Had to wait on them so called pro shop. Ranger came out, yelled at us for being in a hurry. He spoke to twosome and they moved along. Rain started on 18th hole. That was my 2nd time at Water Oak. They put $3 mil or so to renovate. Such a shame. We’ll never go back.

WORST PLACE EVER! As soon as we arrived the staff was terribly rude. Complaint after complaint, bickering about any little thing the man at the front desk could. There was absolutely no one else on the course but as soon as our group arrived we were told if we played with the other members in our group we would be kicked out without a refund. We arrived around 1:30pm on a Sunday for our tee time (hottest day out of the summer) we had coolers of water and beverages to keep us cooled off (there is no cart girl and the restaurant is closed on Sundays) we started getting yelled at by the front desk man AGAIN. As soon as he got the attitude and yelled out the door at us we asked for a refund and he told us he’d give us a refund and we could leave. We went to get a refund and someone above him asked if they were busy (the place was dead) so she told him we couldn’t get a refund and to let us bring our drinks. We finally get onto the course and playing and GUESS WHAT… we got followed the entire time we were on the course by the ranger (we were the only ones on the course.) I don’t care how great any course is, the atmosphere you play in is far more important than anything. At the end of the day, the course wasn’t that great as well so don’t spend your money here.

If you haven't played it since the renovation you are missing something special. The change is amazing and they have some interesting pets hanging out around the pond on hole 6!

The course was in great shape. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facility was very clean. The greens and next tee off boxes were close. The attitude of the resident golfers were a problem. They said snide comments to my friends and I. The other golfers were very friendly. We are avid golfers and follow the rules. There wasn't a call for them to act the way they did to us. I'm sorry to say I won't be back because of dealing with that type of behavior.
Good luck.

The course conditions were great The greens were great rolled true The employees the starter everybody was fantastic. However the local residents that were on the golf course treated it like their own private course very unfriendly very unprofessional for that reason we will stay away. Very rude people okay

What I like: it has hills. Many mature trees. The condition of course was pretty good. Most of the staff was friendly. Parking was shaded.
What I don't like: Horrible layout. Blind shots. Fairways too close to each other. I play from back tees and at least one tee box crosses another hole's green. Green fees are a bit steep but I understand the high operating costs of golf courses.
Final thoughts: just try it out. It's not for me but I did have fun.

There are lots of things to love about Water Oak. It's scenic, a little hilly, and in decent condition. The fairways are often tree lined, but while it's clearly better to find the fairway you shouldn't lose too many balls in the trees. Finding your ball in any of the 3(?) the lakes is another matter though.
If you're in the area then this is well worth a visit.

Booked a tee time on a whim after work one day. Upon arrival I was very impressed by the course conditions and layout. I was informed the course was recently renovated and redesigned, it’s certainly a sight to behold.
Even after a good bit of rain that stopped me mid-round, the course held up exceptionally well. This is without a doubt the best bang for your buck course I’ve personally played in all my years of golf. I’ll definitely be back!

Expensive to play ($110 for two) and in my opinion not worth the money. My wife and I played here because: 2 - foursomes from Water Oaks play one of our favorite courses and recommended the course. The owners put $6 million dollars into Water Oaks and they wasted their money (now I know why some of their residence play Eagle Ridge with us for $35, which is a superior course in my opinion). They could have invested $1 million in the old course, improved the greens and the fairways and kept the price low and had a better course while keeping the price low. After playing the first 9 holes they started residents who only wanted to play 9 on the back 9 in front of us, which slowed play to a crawl and destroyed pace of play. Realizing their mistake they had us play through. The restaurant was closed and is closed two days a week even though the golf course is open. So you have to leave and go some where else if you'd like to have lunch.
The plus side, the greens were in excellent shape and very fast. The fairways were in only fair to good condition. The staff is very friendly. But changing the layout of the fairways for 6 million dollars didn't do much to improve the golfing experience, especially when they considerably raise the price to make it the most expensive golf course in the area.
The owners should address the price and have the kitchen open when the golf course is.
