Just went today for the first time. I've been bouldering for about 4 years now, and this is one of the better gyms I've been to. Despite being small, they make excellent use of the space. The setting is stellar, and the other climbers I spoke to were cool and kind enough to explain to me how the boulder problems and grading worked. I even received some cool information about local outdoor areas to check out during the colder seasons. Overall great experience. I immediately purchased a punch card and will probably purchase a full membership soon.

I pay too much to climb here to have the AC be broken. I'm grateful for this place but come on guys, I feel so bad for the workers.

Such a funny response, somehow you managed to be dismissive of my concerns while simultaneously blaming me for people giving critique of your business as well as trying to guilt me with the cost of fixtures? I wonder why so many people were leaving negative comments in the suggestion box? Please use your critical thinking skills Adrian and Jackie. This was an extremely embarrassing response.

I acknowledged how grateful I was for the space, but that doesn't mean you are safe from criticism. For anyone wondering about the AC incident, no statement was ever given to members on when it would be fixed or that is was broken.

You ought to have more pizza parties and member nights for how much you rely on these people, as the community here is the saving grace. If you spent any amount of time in the gym and talked to the members you would realize how many qualms people have with the place. Be grateful you're the one gym in town besides Ramsey.

If you’re looking for a good time with friends or wanting to start rock climbing/bouldering, Active is a good place to start. They have a variety of climbing difficulties, and if you’re new, there are enough routes to keep you interested. If you’re looking to find a community of climbers, look no further because Athens doesn’t really have another place to go (besides Ramsey). While great for community, it does mean that the pricing can be a bit much especially if you’re looking for a yearly pass (student discounts are still quite hefty). However, if you’re trying to replace a gym membership with climbing, it’s really not that bad.

Overall, Athens is lucky to have Active, and everyone should consider checking it out at least once.

I purchased the month pass to climb at active over winter break. All of the staff are awesome and the gym is very covid conscientious with hand sanitizer and mandatory masks. Good range of bouldering difficulty, even the most beginner climbers will have fun, but also much more advanced climbers will find challenges. Great place to get better at climbing while meeting similar folks.

This is a bouldering gym for the most part. I was an outdoor pitch climber 20 years ago. After paying for three day passes I joined for a month today. I'm so out of climbing shape I decided to use this bouldering (a term I never heard before) to get back in shape to get back on the pitch. You can use your own chalk and shoes. I've never climbed indoors before, but the people there are friendly and helpful. They have some top ropes, but because I'm always there alone I've never got to use them even though they rent harnesses (I think most people there are like me. They bring their gear, but they're mostly into bouldering. ) Coming of the crag to a technical climbing gym is a change. I like it. EDIT: I Train inside. Climb outside, like the blue shirt from Active says. This is Currahee, granite, and Lookout Mountain Sunset Park in Chattanooga, sandstone cracking.

I just am so spoiled by my other experiences. I have climbed at multiple climbing gyms in multiple countries. And I just absolutely love climbing. This one does not fall super high on my list. But I am grateful that it’s here. I wish they stayed open a little later- I feel like 10 would be a good time. As this is the only climbing gym in the area, it’s a good option. It’s mostly bouldering so lots of very technical climbs and lots of problems in the v2v3 range and I’ve seen some v8v9. The only real negative is that the holds need a serious update. A lot of them are very glassy or greasy. And you slip off like I’ve never experienced before. I’ve only been here during the summer - and boy is it humid in Georgia. But I hope it will be better in the winter (which I feel like is weird to say about an indoor climbing gym) but please update your holds!!!!

Good sized place. I appreciate that they have a separate area for kids. I may have gone on a week that the routes just were done bad or what, but I really didn’t enjoy this place at all. My bf and I are active climbers and have climbed for about 4 years now. We found the “ratings” for routes were awkward. I asked the csr how they number them and he made it apparent that it’s standard numbering. No a route is a 1or a 2 a 3 or a 4, not this 1/2 3/4 5/6 etc ... put the true rates. Their holds are probably about 10+ years old with very little variety and all need a real good cleaning. The amount of build up in them was actually a bit disgusting. Over I did not enjoy their “made up” routes. They also lack coordination in true outdoor routes and natural body movement. I understand challenges but these were just too ridiculous to enjoy. Lastly, they expect you to know that the purple holds on the route will out of no where switch to black routes... most the routes were hard to follow with your own eyes. Overall I feel it’s lack of knowledge. I read all the great reviews, I may have gone on a bad week, who knows. Based on my experience, I may return to give it another go. For children, I can see this place be wonderful for sure thus why I gave 2 stars, but not a place for experienced climbers. The CSR was nice and was good at his job. Prices were good :)

Biggest Suggestions: clean your holds and get new ones, stop advertising belay and top rope since it’s only for kids basically, use actual route rates since yours is sooooo far from actual standard.
