Typically, we have nothing but positive things to say about CRG. The staff is outstanding, and we genuinely enjoy climbing there. However, this evening was extremely disappointing. Our car—along with several others—was broken into while parked very close to the entrance. The windows were smashed, and multiple vehicles suffered the same damage.
What is most concerning is that CRG employs not one, but two patrolling security guards, yet neither witnessed nor reported anything. It is difficult to understand how such a brazen incident involving multiple broken windows could occur directly outside the entrance without being noticed. Thieves were able to steal wallets, keys, computers, and phones without any apparent intervention.
We recognize that no security measure is perfect, but we placed trust in the presence of uniformed guards in marked vehicles. Unfortunately, that trust now feels misplaced. We strongly urge CRG to reevaluate and replace the current security company. The level of oversight demonstrated tonight was unacceptable, and it has left us feeling both frustrated and unsafe.
While we still love CRG, prospective visitors should be aware that—based on tonight’s events—there appears to be a real risk of vehicle break-ins. We learned tonight this type of vandalism happens often at CRG, hence the two patrol security guards. We sincerely hope corrective action is taken immediately to prevent this from happening to anyone else. #FrustratedClimber

We’ve been coming to this gym for a while and have really enjoyed our time until tonight when my car was broken into. Apparently this happens a lot (according to the staff). My issue is with managements decision to keep the same security company after reports of multiple break-ins over a period of time. My car was one of three cars broken into parked near the main entrance with two security guards close by. Beware coming to this location.

A nice place to spend a few hours. They have classes and a gym, as well as the climbing. Kids teams are a great after school activity for more independent learners. It gets pretty busy weekday evenings.

This location has declined tremendously, I took my son here today for the homeschool climb. This was his 2nd time visiting this gym.
Immediately when I walked in, I wasn’t greeted and when it was time for me to pay. The employee tried to charge for me climbing gear when I already had my gear in my backpack.
She didn’t assume to ask me if I needed gear or not. The staff is young and lack professionalism. I won’t return back here.

I love bouldering at CRG. They always have fresh routes, it's not too crowded except peak time, and there's a variety of skill levels so it's fun for everyone. Membership is a little expensive, but they have a good student/family rate and options for day passes/punch cards.

We have been coming here for a year and a half and Nick, Alan, and Nikke have been such a delight. They are so helpful have answered any rock climbing questions when we first started out. I love this place, back in 2019 I used to come with my friend back when he was a manager and I would only climb once a month but I’m so glad that I’m now a member.

An incredible spot for climbers of all abilities! My best friend and I took the lead climb and belay course with Jules, who was unbelievably patient, knowledgeable, and supportive. Additionally, we received top rope belay instruction from Jimmy, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. He even remembered us on subsequent visits and recommended fun climbs at our appropriate levels of difficulty. The staff truly elevate this environment, which contains lots of climbs for both boulderers and sport climbers (top rope and lead). I highly recommend visiting!

Incredible walls, especially for lead. Really nice setting and the new bouldering facility across the street is an incredible addition to what is now one of the largest combined gyms I’ve ever been to. Only small con is that some of the older are getting a bit old and polished but not a big deal.

I came for the one day pass today as my first time experiencing indoor rock climbing. I was greeted at the desk by Amelia who seemed unsure the whole time of finding my information and helping me with what i needed to join my party. I was told to fill out the first form on the ipad and then later told i was supposed to do 4; which im sure i know the difference between being told to do 1 vs 4. Once this was completed another gentleman, Brandon helped me get my shoes and harness. Before this i saw another staff member helping a mother place a child's harness on, which i thought i would get the luxury of happening due to it being my first time, but Brandon only told me how to do it and expected me to just know it, even after questioning him twice about if it was right. At this point, i had to ask my friend in my party to help assist since it seemed the front desk staff did not want to. This was highly inconvenient, frustrating, and overwhelming for my first time experience, where it seemed like no one wanted to go out of there way to help me and make it seem like i was the inconvenience of being there.

This gym is such a wonderful part of Atlanta! They have created a inclusive, welcoming culture for people of all skill levels, and provided a place where people can easily meet others while climbing in a safe environment. I sure appreciate all the effort of the route setters to keep it interesting and challenging by regularly changing them out.
Nick Shook especially goes above and beyond to create a community for the those who come to climb at 6am with his monthly breakfasts, not to mention how he knows everyone by name, makes sure to greet them, and is a friend to many of them. After all the time he has been with this organization, he does his best to make sure things continue to run safely and smoothly.

My kid and I are new to climbing and came to check it out after a positive climbing experience in scouts. Spent three hours that felt like 30 minutes it was so much fun. The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and patient with us as new people who didn't have a clue. We signed up for member ship the same day and took a belaying class the next visit. Josh was awesome, friendly, very knowledgeable, supportive, and not berating at all. He had us going in no time after a thorough teaching session, spent time with us for a few practice climbs, then let us explore alone and checked in on us. I'm sure most/all the staff is great, but request Josh if available and you're set.
As of this posting, their harnesses are new and high quality. There is ample bouldering space, and many, many routes of various levels for top rope and lead climbing. Not many options for auto-belay though, so joining and getting belay-certified is a must. They offer classes, a yoga/stretch area, some gym equipment, and provide all the gear if you don't have any (like us). I expect these kinds of large gyms are going to spread quickly. I'm already all-in.

I really loved this gym. It was incredibly welcoming to beginners and such an empowering experience overall. I truly enjoyed my time there.
Fast forward three months unfortunately, I injured my ankle and had to pause my membership while I recovered. A few weeks later, I noticed a charge from the gym, even though I had already canceled. When I reached out, they told me they had no record of the charge and that, according to their system, my membership had been canceled.
So I decided to look through the invoices they send out monthly via email. That’s when I discovered that the charge wasn’t even for me it was for another individual I’d never heard of. Yet my card was used to cover it. I was shocked, because the only time I ever gave them my card information was when I signed up in person. How does something like this even happen unless someone manually used my card details on another account?
I had only been a member for about 3–4 months, and during that time, it turns out I was being charged double essentially paying for someone else’s membership along with my own.
When I contacted the gym again, the employee I spoke with seemed completely clueless. She gave me the manager’s email, so I reached out there. The manager responded and said they’d look into it further, but that was the last I heard from them. They did eventually refund me for the extra charges, but the whole situation completely discouraged me from ever returning. I even had to replace my card just to be safe.

Used to be my favorite location to climb at. Now that schools out - good luck finding space on a bouldering wall without an entire summer camp of kids cutting in in front of you. Not enough supervison keeping them off the mat and away from the adult members. Constantly having to abandon projects when 6+ kids crowd around beneath it. Might have to switch back to the midtown location for the summer.

Gym is fine.
Staff is nice. Area is open. Pads are soft. Auto belay is always a plus (even though it's really for beginners and kids cuz it's only halfway up the wall).
However, my out-of-state visit from Utah was a bit of a disappointment.
Arbitrary rules like ' no bouldering for kids under 13' when both of my kids have been on a youth team and bouldering since 6 y/o (including one on the US national pre-team at 10) or having the pay extra money for the better bouldering gym 100 ft down the hill at the separate building, are a couple things that soured the experience.

The manager, Annie, was so helpful, wonderful, and I really appreciated how helpful she was getting me familiar with everything within the gym. I really think that whatever she’s getting paid is not enough. She surely deserves a raise. She made me feel safe because climbing is inherently dangerous, and I really appreciate her ability to clearly and confidently explain belaying and how to be safe around the gym. The other managers, Bre, Sam, Nick, and Josh, were very welcoming. I also appreciated the manager, Jules, who checked me in effectively.

Hosted a birthday party here for 9 year olds last year and it was a great party. The birthday party area is completely separate upstairs, so it was nice having the group well contained and where we could easily keep an eye on everyone (it was a drop off birthday party). There were 5 automatic belayers, so an adult or employee to hold the ropes for each child was not necessary. It was a little crowded and chaotic at the very beginning getting everyone signed in and in the correct shoe sizes, but once we got upstairs, the party room was plenty big and the kids had a blast. We brought some coloring pages and markers for kids to do if they were taking a break or did not want to climb, which I would recommend. We brought in our own food and cake and overall 5/5 great time.

Seriously the greatest climbing gym chain. The Atlanta gym lead wall is HUGE, with a second, very big bouldering only gym just steps away. Kennesaw gym is also very spacious, and the Midtown gym is super convenient if you live in the area. Fun sets with a variety of wall types. Best slab walls I’ve seen at all the gyms I’ve been to. Rentals (shoes, harness, belay device, lead rope), belay lessons and testing, and a variety of group activities like Pilates and ab classes are all free with your membership. Super nice and supportive community of climbers. I had to move but I miss this gym dearly😭😭

Love this place! Nick, one of there managers, is a great guy and really outdid himself this morning.
I woke up to an email that booked me for a lead climbing class because I mentioned it to him yesterday and said that would be a perfect day for me since it's my birthday. Nick couldn't get into the system at the bouldering gym we were at, but said when he saw me today he'd try to handle it.
He had handled it all before I looked at my phone this morning. It was the best birthday present ever and it isn't even my birthday. He rocks!
Everyone else there is just as caring and great, but special props today for Nick and his great customer service!

Update: mats much improved and climbing coaches were watching the kids as best they could. Thanks for the positive changes.
Update: both the main gym and bouldering gym have been filthy. My clothes and skin are covered in dirt when I leave. When I showed staff they said the person that cleans has been off for illness. Apparently that means no cleaning is done. I was itching and washing black water off my skin. The employees said they would clean it before tomorrow… How can these locations be so poorly managed when they are the highest price in the area for a rock climbing gym.
Update: Treadmills have been working for over two weeks without breaking! The AC in the bouldering building is great and the main building is better but not great in the afternoon. They hired a security officer!
I appreciate all the efforts CRG has made to resolve our concerns. There is still a lot of work needed and I hope to continue to improve my rating based on these efforts. Thanks
Update: water fountains fixed. AC better but still hot n the afternoons. Would like to know what the plans are for all the car break-ins reported at this gym.
Update: Had to reach out all the way to the chief operations officer to get a professional who wanted to help address the issues. I look forward to giving a more positive review once the issues are addressed.
Just joined about three months ago. If all you want is climbing you may be ok but I would not recommend coming here or joining until they fix the AC among other things. After having issues with the treadmills not working and telling employees multiple times, no signage was posted and still only two out of the 4 work. There is no rule about time limits or walking on there for over an hour so you won’t get to warm up for your climbs. I was finally given the general manager’s email but she was no help. For over two months I have tried to communicate with her and she ignores emails until you bug her and then doesn’t offer a resolution. I was told that because I pay for the pass to all gyms that I should go to one of the others until the repairs are done. It’s highly unprofessional behavior. On top of that I was told that the chalk is what is ruining the treadmills and that they would not ask people to use liquid chalk. Wild. I made no suggestion of that but have suggested out of order signs and moving them to one of the many rooms where they wouldn’t be covered in to much debris. Even worse, Kennesaw where I was told to go, has 8 treadmills but only two can be used. One screams at you the whole time because it needs attention and one it ok. The rest have slipped for me and my husband both and as a faster runner he was thrown from one yesterday.
Great setting but that’s all. Nothing else. Very poor customer service from the staff and the manager. The water fountain and vending machine are out too in Atlanta so don’t count on anything that has moving parts to function. I have over two months before writing this review in efforts to work it out with them first and instead was treated very rudely.
Went back to my old gym after a few months at Stone Summit and was able to flash a grade higher than what I was climbing when I was a member. Like I said, great setting.
I hope to be able to revise my review when they fix things. Not solution minded at all.

I am adding additional thoughts about the review my wife just left here.
I would like to add that people who do this type of act can be very dangerous. One of my mom's former coworkers', 20 something year old son, lost his life while working as a valet downtown, just because he asked a person who had broken into a car if they needed help, not knowing the situation. I do now fear not just for my safety, but for the safety of fellow members, other patrons, and staff. When long term staff members mention that they are surprised their vehicle has yet to be broken into, you have a problem. If your staff cannot feel safe, why should your patrons? I would strongly recommend anyone who is thinking about climbing at either of the Atlanta gyms to reconsider, and potentially find another gym to go climb at. I would personally recommend Adrenaline Climbing in Suwanne. It is a small place, but the only issue you may have there is finding parking.
I am saddened to say all this because I have enjoyed coming to this facility ever since they opened in 2012, and was really looking forward to one day hosting a birthday party for my new son there. But now, unless there are drastic changes to make me feel safe at this gym, I am going to have a hard time recommending anyone go here for any reason.

CAR BREAK INS CONSTANTLY
We are angry and frustrated to say that we do not know if we will continue to go to Central Rock, previously Stone Summit, Climbing gym. Ryan, my father, and I have been climbing there for over a decade. Ryan competed on their climbing team for years. Climbing has always been a passion of his. We and many of our friends have been very frustrated with the lack of action against repeated break-ins at Stone summit climbing gym for over a year. Tonight was the second break-in in 5 months to Ryan's truck. Our small group of friends has had five break-ins in the last year alone. It does not matter if the cars are parked in the back, gravel, or front lot.
Over the past few years, Stone summit members have been pleading with staff to increase security. There is a security patrol that is occasionally checking the parking lots but they have long gaps between times that they are present. The people who are doing this are clearly waiting until the security guard drives away knowing that they have a long gap until the next check-in. Cameras have only recently been added which is a step in the right direction, but long overdue. There are no fences surrounding the parking lot and at least initially the culprits were coming in through the woods behind the lot. There is nothing to deter them from hiding right next to the lot in those woods. Security could easily be increased by paying to have security continuously driving through the parking lots and not leaving the premises between check-ins. Security/staff could be hired to stay in the lots.
Two people that we know of have been told directly by police that they have offered to do some sort of patrolling of stone summit each night, but that this was turned down. (We are not sure if this is at the expensive of the gym or if this would be a free offering).
After this break-in we will have paid over $1,000 in repair costs for two windows and items being stolen out of the vehicle. More than the cost of it, I'm concerned about the safety of our children. Two of us have had cars broken into where glass has gotten all over the car seat for our child. We have to clean it out the best that we can and then transport our child home in a vehicle with no window in the back. Each time we tape up the windows the best we can with trash bags and tape which causes a hell of a lot of noise and let's water into the vehicle.
We would like to know what Central Rock Gym plans to do about these break-ins and we would like for them to take accountability for their lack of security.

The walls are tall and routes are more than decent. My lack of two stars comes from from the quality of the ropes and the atmosphere curated. I went on a Sunday and it was decently full. I had to wait for almost every route to open. Ropes were massively stiff to the point that my arms got tired from be laying. Desperately need either new ropes or a thorough cleaning of them. Beyond that, climbing etiquette went out the window. People climbing on the route directly next to one there was already someone on. When being lowered from an overhang people directly below me looked at me, made eye contact, and after my belayer gave them a heads up they didn't even acknowledge us. I had to contort myself just to keep my feet from hitting one of their heads.

The setting quality fluctuates depending on the rotation of setters - they have difficulty retaining them and so it can be somewhat of an unknown if the new set will be good or not. Relatively decent facility, note that the treadmills are broken the majority of the time and in the summer the AC either rarely works or ia turned on. Unfortunately this particular location has been known to have a lot of car break-ins/theft (30 in a single week). The gym had previously hired a security car to drive around but no longer does it. It's a decent climbing facility, great for lead climbing but severely lacking in security and does not seem like they care very much about it anymore either. Attempts to reach out to management about the security issue have been ignored unfortunately.

When I moved here 12 years ago Stone Summit Atlanta was incredible, the best gym I had ever been too. It was clean, cool, well maintained, and had endlessly tall walls. Now it is overheated and dirty. They haven't bothered to fix their air conditioning in over two years - today the thermometer upstairs said 87 degrees! Two years ago I was told this was due to supply chain issues, but that excuse doesn't hold water more than a year later. The floor mats are truly disgusting even though this could be easily remedied with a deep carpet cleaning. The air is filled with chalk which could be remedied by wiping down all the surfaces even just occasionally. Why don't they shut the gym down for a week and send all the members to Kennesaw to climb while they fix the air conditioning and deep clean the place? I just don't get it...

I’ve been climbing at Stone Summit for 7 years. I loved the gym at first and still enjoy the climbs here, but the facility has gone down hill fast the past few years. The whole place is filthy, especially the mats. The bathrooms are gross. The past two summers the A/C hasn’t worked well enough to keep the gym at a reasonable temp.

Great place! The children's area is limited with just a dino slide and the workout area upstairs is limited as well. Some of the workout equipment did not function properly, but it is a rock climbing gym, so go for climbing.

Top notch climbing, staff is great….
*** BUT THE TREADMILLS HAVE BEEN BROKEN FOR A YEAR NOW. THEY NEED TO REPLACE THEM IF THEY CANNOT BE FIXED. **** They keep saying it’s fixed, they keep saying the repair person is coming again… it’s not happening. You can only walk on them, if you try to run the speed changes randomly to slow speeds. It’s a bummer that it’s the case, but I’m hoping putting a review here will pressure management into paying to fix it. :/ Because we’ve been members for years and I’m just a little sad that our membership isn’t being used for this.

Good Gym, but Needs Improvement on Policy Enforcement and Odor Control
I have mixed feelings about this climbing gym. On the positive side, the gym offers a variety of levels for both bouldering and belaying, and the routes change frequently, which keeps things interesting. However, there are a few significant concerns that need to be addressed.
Firstly, during peak hours, the locker and personal item storage area has an unbearable smell, reminiscent of a sewer. It's unpleasant and makes it difficult to fully enjoy the facility. I understand it's the carelessness and irresponsible hygiene management by the members as well, but proper measures should be taken by the gym to ensure a clean and odor-free environment for all visitors.
Another issue is the inconsistency in enforcing their own policies and rules, especially when it comes to children during birthday parties and their accompanying "coaches." It's frustrating to witness kids engaging in belaying without any safety devices as if they were in the bouldering area, disregarding the rules that clearly state it's for individuals 18 years and older. The staff members seem to turn a blind eye to these infractions while being particularly strict with regular adult members. This lack of enforcement puts individuals at risk and undermines the credibility of the gym.
I believe it's important for the staff to prioritize safety and adhere to their own policies consistently. Allowing children to engage in activities beyond their designated areas and without proper safety precautions is unreasonable. It not only puts the children themselves at risk but also jeopardizes the safety of other gym members. I urge the management to address these issues promptly before an accident occurs or authorities need to get involved.
In conclusion, while the climbing gym offers a good variety of levels, the persistent odor in the storage area and the lack of policy enforcement concerning children and their coaches detract from the overall experience. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements to ensure a safer and more enjoyable environment for all patrons.

The place is good like all the other stone summits. But not so great for younger kids though. My 4 year old could not climb the dinosaur slide/climb they have which is supposed to be for little ones. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Checkout sucked, they would not allow me to belay even though I was certified at the Kennesaw location. Was also not allowed to use my act belay device because it was "outdated". 9/10 employees were impatient but slow at the same time. Whole gym seemed to be full of elitist nerds. Don't bother coming to this location EVER

If you're looking for a great spot to go rock climbing, Stone Summit Climbing Atlanta is the place for you. They have a small bouldering section because there is a dedicated bouldering gym nearby, but the staff is friendly and they offer tours for first timers. There are tons of top rope and auto belay options, as well as a small gym upstairs for weight lifting and cardio. Overall, it's a great place to get your climb on!

Reasonably large climbing gym in the greater Atlanta area. They are a chain with 4 locations in and around the city. This location has both rope climbing and bouldering so it’s a plus. The staff were super friendly and accommodating
There are a ton of beginner routes and plenty of autobelays for that area. I see a lot of kids having fun. In general the grades are on the softer side but that’s not to take away from the creative route setting. They have something for everyone.
They also have an annex parking which is slightly down the hill from the building and can fit plenty of cars and vans.

Great gym, will forever hold a special place with me... but stone summit NEEDS to get with the times, better cleaning of mats, proper cleaning/ updating holds, and most importantly, Grigris should be provided/ required on top rope routes, just watched a 45 foot ground fall yesterday bc new climber was belaying with a an ATC, a gym the size of SS should be able to spend ~4k and buy 40 grigris

Ive been a member for the last five years. I would climb 2-3 times a week and it had been a great experience in the past. This last year stone summit has ramped up there youth program so much that it feels more like a daycare/playground at times with little oversight from the coaches and instructors. There is no consideration for other people. If your patiently waiting for a climb forget it these kids will start doing campus circuits on the newest set with no regard for anyone else or even mill about under the climbs.
If you don’t have a normal day job this place would be perfect, after 5pm you can forget it. I’m strongly considering canceling my membership if there expansion doesn’t relieve the problem.
As a longtime member I feel like members are undervalued and underserved.

I took my kids for the first time today and had a poor experience. The front desk staff were great, however summer camp was going on and the kids were allowed to play in the climbing area when they were mot climbing. The camp staff were not watching the kids and they were running under the climbing area playing tag. It was too crowded to climb safely so we

Let’s start with customer service. I told the front desk rep I was new and I was told to wait for someone to do a safety orientation. No one came for 20 mins and I also struggled to put my harness on. Where’s the customer service?
I had to go back to the front desk to receive help, which the safety orientation trainer was amazing. (Nose ring and ponytail guy. Sorry I don’t remember his name) Everyone else there should take notes. He’s the only reason this place is getting 3 stars instead of 1.

Stone Summit is really great, and I'd like to give a special shout-out to Jin. She assisted our birthday party by using her own break to belay someone who couldn't climb on their own (who was, in fact, the birthday girl!). I really want to thank her for her dedication and kindness. Jin, if you're reading this, never forget your awesomeness! And Jin's manager, if you're reading this - GIVE HER A RAISE!!

I got a membership and come almost every other day. The membership is very good if you come a lot. It's like $70 a month. If I climb 3 days in a week (which I usually come like 4-6 days per week) I save money by having a membership. Sales pitch aside; I love the gym and have a lot of fun climbing there. I've gone from climbing 5.8's to 5.11's there. The only complaints I have are that you have to be 18 to be lead certified (which is understandable, and probably a legal thing, but still annoying) and also the bouldering ratings are a little wacky. Blue tags are harder than red tags half the time (only in bouldering room tho). Great gym
Side note: Some dude said you have to master a 12-step knot to do anything outside the kid section; the hell you talkin abt? If you're too dumb to do the basic belay test that most people can pass; then just say that instead of acting like a double figure eight is some advanced knot. It's simpler than a bowline. Also you could always boulder, you don't need to belay to do real climbs

I went to this facility today and I had a wonderful experience. The staff was kind, caring, helpful and organized. The facility was clean, organized, and spaced out so everyone in the facility could enjoy themselves comfortably (even though it was packed). Being that this was my first time here, I liked the fact that the gave me tour of the facility that included how to properly climb and and the correct ways to fall and protect yourself to remain safe. Overall, I had a wonderful day and I learned a whole lot about climbing while enjoy myself in a nice, safe, comfortable environment that felt very welcoming from the moment I walked in the door. Whoever’s running this place is doing a phenomenal job as it was fun for everyone! I look forward to coming back.
